    We are back again today with the brand new 2019 Mazda MX-5 RF. This Miata is currently the lightest sports car available in North America and it comes with an additional 26 horsepower. With a total curb weight of 1,118 kg the SKYACTIV-G 2.0 engine which puts out 181 hp and 151 ft-lb of torque might not make this a fast car but it is definitely quick.

      RF is the one to get though, best chassis rigidity. Makes the weight difference almost irrelevant. If it had hydraulic power steering and a mechanical throttle it would be perfect.

      @@chrisogrady28 EXACTLY! I have a '16 Club, and I love it! I sat in an RF, and didn't care for it, because (At 6'2") I felt really closed in, whereas my soft top is truly wide open. I like the look of the RF, but no so much the FEEL . I'll stay with the soft top.

    Remember some of us have had surgeries which are not going to allow using left leg for clutch etc. I grew up with 64 GTO 4 speed and TR 4 drove xcountry twice in it. B carefull putting down automatic. Some of us still like small roadsters handling and cornering ability even though unable to enjoy manual without discomfort. Enjoy your young life.

I didn't want to settle for another color or package. Ended up getting a white Audi S3 (which I love) but I still love looking at this car. I test drove one and absolutely had a blast.

    Great review. Interesting that you picked up on the virtual rear steer helping you through the corners. From what I understand, they have a pretty sophisticated rear suspension that "plays" with the toe in (maybe also camber?) to improve cornering performance. The KPC doubtless also plays its part but really interesting that you can "feel" the difference, nice. Great little car 👍

    l love my 2016 ND Grand Touring AT! I drive it like I just stole it. It has an aftermarket Roadster Sport suspension, adjustable Koni shocks and performance springs from Goodwin Racing. That package lowers the car about an inch and a half. Goodwin racing front and rear sway bars, a Shock Tower brace that does not come with the 2016 GT model. That combination in the suspension takes out virtually all the body roll. Wilwood 6 piston front brakes slow the car just enough to carry speed into the turns. Roadster Sport Super Street Twin Tip axle back exhaust gives the car an AWESOME exhaust note. The 17X8 4X100 Koenig Hypergram wheels matched with General GMAX AS05225/45/17 tires give the car great street and track performance and an AWESOME profile. I put a Versa Tuner tune on it that enhances the torque thru the power ban up to the 7200-7300rpm range. Yep, it pushed the rev-limit into the range of the 2020. I drive it in manual or manual sport about 99% of the time. The AT doesn`t have the manual`s launch just all the fun and equal handling in the mountains without all the clutching. The car out performs my ability to drive it! I have ridden with AUTOCROSS instructors driving my ND to prove it! My buddy has the same car with a header for performance on the track. We both AUTOCROSS our cars. Don`t knock it until you try it!!

    So the ND1 MX-5 could accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds, which the reviewer described as "slow." The 2019 ND2 MX-5 can do the same acceleration in 5.7 seconds, which was described as "not slow."

    • @ToxicHorsePucky
      @ToxicHorsePucky 5 років тому +1

      Eric Shea Engine tuning has a huge impact on how fast a car *feels* . The new tuning may not result in significantly quicker 0-60 runs, but it may make it feel much faster. For a Miata, that’s all that should really matter anyway.

    • @vossler360
      @vossler360 5 років тому +1

      @@ToxicHorsePucky As was mentioned in the review, peak torque on the ND2 comes in about 500 rpm sooner, but that hardly explains the difference that the reviewer described. The "feeling" between "slow" and "not slow" isn't determined by a 500 rpm difference in peak torque.

    • @vossler360

      @@ToxicHorsePucky So here's the Car and Driver test results for the 2016 MX-5:

      And here's the Car and Driver test result for the 2019 MX-5:
      Zero to 60 mph: 5.7 sec
      Zero to 100 mph: 16.1 sec
      Zero to 120 mph: 27.7 sec

      Braking, 70-0 mph: 170 ft
      Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 0.90 g
      I'd personally describe the difference between these two variants as incremental, as opposed to the transformational difference described in the review. In truth, any variant of the ND provides an excellent driving experience.

      based on the power charts i've seen, the 16-18 and 19 engines are almost identical up to 6K. only above 6K is where the new engine pulls ahead. i rarely push my 2017 RF club that high, so i don't know if i'd notice much difference. definitely not worth the depreciation hit to sell now and buy a 19.

  • @believethehype1045
    @believethehype1045 2 роки тому

    Couple things that made this review cringe:
    1. Mazda did not purposely intend to add more power to this engine. If you watch the documentary made by savageguesse you will see the guys in charge of making this engine their purpose was to make the engine rev much higher than the previous engine which was not great. Mazda the,selves didn’t even know the power the new engine made until the car was released and others discovered the power increase.
    2. Telling people to kill themselves over an automatic transmission is stupid and childish. Yes I’d get the manual no doubt. But there are people with medical issues such as knee problems who cannot get a manual. Even in automatic form this is still a drivers car and better than 90 percent of the cars put there.
    3. The music is so bad. Stick to instrumentals and do more research about a car like this.

      I've heard the yanks pronounce it Marz- da. We Brits say Maz-da. But the name derives from the owner's family name, "Mat-su-da", which translates as "pine tree, rice paddy".
      Can you imagine the Japanese pronouncing Shelby "Shebby"? Awkward, isn't it?
