Paul, you asked about the Hall. I find Hall to be a very good and consistent producer. They give a lot of fruit every year. Also, they are a very manageable size most of which are small enough to eat in one sitting. Also it's when it's carrying fruit the Hall is a pretty tree with the big clusters of fruit hanging down...so nice.
Lula is one of my favorite late avocado varieties. I only had one tree bear fruit but it was its first year fruiting and it’s a cocktail avocado with Day, Oro Negro, & a family heirloom. Day is great! That was the part of the tree that fruited this year 😃 Shalom
My Lula was a great producer but the flavor of mine wasn't top tier. I gifted a Catalina to a friend and he never stops thanking me,. I got rid of the Oro Negro years ago, if I remember the fruit was turning black in spots, but it wasn't in an optimal place. Miguel is good but doesn't produce as much as my Simmonds, which despite windstorm damage, has been a heavy producer year after year. When asked for a recommendation on what to grow, in my experience Simmonds is reliable, delicious and productive. Joey,Lila,fantastic,and mexicola now are avocado trees that sell here in Texas and known to be very cold hardy. I look at videos here to see which avocados has the ability to survive here in our scorching sun,heat and winters that are not accessible to us here in Texas I also don’t like the watery type I’m in between 9a and 9b zone here in San Antonio. I planted a brogdon and Lila in ground about 8 months ago and are looking very happy so far just bought a fantastic and mexicola which will be going in ground come March. Thank you for providing me with information to apply my dream food forest in my small 1/2 acre lot
Hey Paul that’s awesome Reed is your favorite! Mine too for so many reasons. Sorry you can’t grow it. It grows very well in San Jose CA for me and the season is Sept- Dec. I have found the combination Hass, Reed, Lamb, Mexicola, Fuerte provides year round fruit with no gaps in Harvest. Interesting to hear all about the Florida varieties majority of which are totally unknown to us in CA.
Loved the taste tests! Wish I was sitting with ya! I was under the impression that Joey avocado was a small, black egg-shaped fruit (Mexican race). Up in Melbourne I am growing Lula, Oro Negro, Nishikawa, Marcus, Reed, Super Hass, and Mexicola Grande. Oro Negro and Lula are my favorite. I also like Brogden a lot. A large seed doesn't bother me that much; Lula also has a large seed to meat comparison/ratio. Cheers my friend. Enjoy your videos!
@@FruitfulTrees the original tree I purchased (grafted on a Mexican seedling) and had shipped to Florida is doing poorly at this point. However, I was able to graft a scion onto a Lula rootstock which is thriving and doing great (already out-growing the original)! It's still small and no fruit yet, but looks like it will be blooming soon. I think grafting these "non-Florida" varieties onto a good Florida rootstock is a trick to get them to do better in our soils.
Paul, I live in Port Saint Lucie (cooler than WPBeach) my unknown avocado is a type A. The last year it held on to only 2 fruits. This year I so far have 4. So I'm really struggling. I hope planting a type B tree near ( two to three feet away as space is limited so I need a smaller tree) I'd like to check some of the good boxes. Good production. Type B. Smaller. Good taste. Mid to late season (mine is Feb.) Smaller seed. Easy peel. If you can help me that would be great. I've noticed most of your favorites are type A.

The late avocados in my farm: Candelaria, Fucsia and Semil 34. I have a few Oro negro and Monroe, but they are still too young to produce. Anyways, the Semil 34 is spectacular. A really long season.
Kampong and Ronnie sound very good. I'll bet Ronnie gets even better over the next couple months. Taylor sounds mediocre, about in the same league as Wurtz--ok but not great. Kampong is an alternate bearer. Keep that in mind, Paul. Semil 34 is another variety that probably deserves attention--a fall avocado according to Alex.
I heard wonderful comments about Monroe avocado so I purchased one in April 2022. It is a very beautiful fast growing tree and it produced 5 large avocados but am so disappointed with the flavor. It is bland and watery . I am planning to replace it this week with a Oro Negro as per your suggestion.

I have a Bacon tree planted out that has grown nicely. It hasn't fruited yet, so not sure about flavor...not too popular though.
I just planted a 3 gallon Oro negro tree about 2 weeks ago from Excalibur.

Paul… maybe you can sacrifice a tree and graft the best early, mid n late avocado on one tree so those with limited space can cover the year.
