When you are at someone else’s property and they have a tree that you want but don’t have room for, I can hear it in your tone of voice when you ask them questions about it. Its almost accusatory, not quite. Haha 🤣 I ❤❤❤ your channel !!! Now I want to move to South Florida! (from Seattle) All my friends try to warn me about alligators and hurricanes, but I say “But MANGO TREES!!!” 😂
Love your videos, very educational, but as a 68 yr old 5th generation Miami native, my family & friends are very familiar with Catalina. "Taste before you buy" is true for all types of fruit trees not just avocados. Good advice for newcomers. We love our simmonds and choquette that way we have both summer and fall/winter fruit.
This was a very good and informative video from Lara Farms. Julian should brand and market that Improved Pollock tree as a dwarf "Weeping Avacado", which sounds better than saying "leggy". I would love to grow the Improved Pollock but probably not hardy enough for my climate. I'm in Georgia zone 8a. I already have 5 varieties that are suppose to be hardy here once established ( Mexicola Grande, Brogdon, Monroe, Oro Nero and Fantastic), I've kept them in pots through the winter for 2 years now and just cover and protect them from extreme cold. I plan on espalier them the way a guy does in New Zealand. I thought maybe the Improved Pollock would be great to espalier because of it's weeping nature. Thanks for sharing. Please keep up the videos!
You guys sound like two guys talking baseball at the bar. Beautiful, depth of passion glad I stumbled over the video. I'm 6B so I doubt I'll ever get to grow an avocado and eat from my tree. ' course if there is a tree that could work - geez let me know!
Hi Paul… what variety of avocados can be “paired” on one tree… such that A/B flowering is same time and growth habit is same/similar? You could easily double or triple your varieties of avocados and mangoes by grafting different scions with similar characteristics. This is truly what a backyard fruit grower need!
I planted a “Duke” seedling in my yard (the grafted Duke’s did not fair well in C. Florida climate) and at year 4, it has produced some fruit, but it fell off early. It has a beautiful canopy and a very anise smell in the leaves. It’s my experimental avocado.
I have an Ooh-La-La (now sold as SuperHass), and I can confirm that some of the fruits did not ripen evenly. Most however did ripen properly if allowed to fully mature on the tree. They are ready to pick once the fruit turns black all over. I'm hoping that fruit quality will improve as the tree matures, this is only the second year it has produced. I like the flavor. A November fruit, it's the closest to a Hass that I've tasted from Florida. It's probably even better than grocery store Hass. A bit larger than Hass too.
In Jamaica the fruit trees grow in the yard and also wildly. We don’t know every name for the fruit but we just eat them. Avocado for America but pears for the Caribbean. Naseberry in Jamaica 🇯🇲, saps dill o in the other islands.
The pedestal idea for the Improved Pollock is great! I will try to find out where you are located. We were just torn to shreds by hurricane Ian. But I keep most my good trees in pots, and don’t mind getting a new one.
I got a big Florida avocado at the store, it was big and dark green, I put the toothpicks in it and set it In water. It grew a wonderful stem, the stem grew big leaves, I planted in a pot, it grew so fast I had to transplant in a bigger pot, I asked my landscaper to plant in my yard twenty feet out from my house, now 9 years later it has grown way over my house and screen over the pool. It had hundreds of blossoms all over the tree, then a strong wind blew them away. For the first time ever I got one BIG BEAUTIFUL avocado. It was hard, but it ripened in a few days. See my pictures?
i'm starting a small collection of avocado trees down here in Panama, Central America. We are in the middle of the tropics so heat and humidity is prevalent... I got Catalina, Lorena (Papelillo) and some type of Hass (i guess grafted on a native avocado rootstock) that i think might work despite the heat. I'm gonna get some Choquette and probably a Simmons... I do wish to get some hass looking avocado that can fare well in tropical heat. Down here regular hass is only planted above 1,000m high, where temperature is fresh and nights chilly... I wonder if there is a way of getting that... and how would that work to get a tree from another country? it would have to be a seed most likely..i dont think aduana/migration can let a tree pass.
Do you have to have two different varieties of avocados for pollination? I’m wanting to plant an Oro Negro avocado here in Gainesville, Florida. Will it produce fruit with just one tree?
Pollock is one of the most popular avocado in the Caribbean or west Indies. I don't want any other type. Nothing compares to it. That one in the video is about half maybe two thirds the size of a proper Pollock. Buttery is how I describe it.
lol Everyone is always saying they have the best avocado or mango or whatever. But we don't all taste things the same. Taste is "in the mouth of the beholder"😅
Good videos but you're wrong about not knowing about the Catalina. Not everyone is a transplant from other states. Growing up in Miami in the 50s, 60s, & 70s, most of our family members had them in their yards.
Wurtz is a dwarf avocado and likes to hang low (in comparison to Lara Polock). Mine is over 13 years old and stands at 5 feet. But its fruit is inferior to others I've had.
I love going to Lara Farms, I’m 5 minutes away from them, they’re like family.

Here in Tampa have really enjoyed the Lula. Grandfather grew it for over 40 years until he passed. Whole family and all the neighbors loved that tree.
This is the best video for Florida avocados out there! Very informative. Thank you Paul and Julian.
39:29 I did not know there were seedless avocados. Thanks for making this video. Such great information.

I went to order the mixed box. No go. I live in California 😒
Thanks, Paul for the tour. I also enjoyed hearing the roosters in the background.
Happy you got the improved Pollock. Great great video. Love your videos.🥑

Beautiful trees, thanks you for sharing.
I will definitely keep an eye on the Improved Pollock.
I ordered the improved pollock. Thanks for sharing 🙏 😎 🏖 🏝
that's great you were able to get one. They sold out fast.
Well I know.I'm cuban and I love catalina avocados I also know and i have watched his videos.Thanks.
Here in Santa Barbara my Nabal is really loaded and I get a couple on the ground every morning. It is a delicious variety with fruit up to 2 pounds.
Ordered the improved pollock. Thanks Paul!
Home Depot here has Catalina avocado trees, I bought one a few months ago and is growing well, I should go buy another!
It's a great avocado but you only need one
@@FruitfulTrees I plan on having 30-35 avocado trees, I have 11 of 6 different varieties and 30 seedlings that I'll graft to next year.

I think it would be too cold there
beautiful avocado trees on his farm.
Nice. Hmmm. We have some really dank amazing avocados here in Hawaii. Would love to see a national taste test between Hawaii and south Florida.
You guys are awesome! Thanks for making these videos!
When is the best time to pick Florida Hass?

Hi John, it's a good idea. you would need to avocados of the same season and different types. Check the list on his website to help figure it out.
Havent done this myself but if i did, i would graft miguel and simmonds on same tree
Just looked and improved pollock (aka Lara Pollock) are sold out at Lara Farms...I think I need one of these!!!
I kept wanting Christofer Walken to come in and say “I gotta have more Rooster!”

I've had a bunch the last few week. Ripened fully and the taste is really good
Thank You very informative.
We have so much varieties in the Caribbean
So good, I've watched it twice!
How do keep the squirrels from eating them?
I agree, I’m a big fan of avocados but out of all the avocados that I’ve eaten, the Simmons are my favorite and some of them are really big.
Do he ship avacado fruit to California?
The first tree in video has leaf damage. Is that from lace bugs? If so does that tree lose alot of leaves due to lace bug?
In Jamaica the fruit trees grow in the yard and also wildly. We don’t know every name for the fruit but we just eat them. Avocado for America but pears for the Caribbean. Naseberry in Jamaica 🇯🇲, saps dill o in the other islands.
What does uneven ripening mean?
The fruit doesn't ripe?
Or fruits ripe different times?
only some of the fruit will ripen but now all of it

I have a maria black avocado tree that is a real dwarf and grow habits is very similar to lara pollock
oh, I feel so tempted.
More in stock
These guys are great…
Plant good rootstock. You can graft any variety you like later on.
Yes Pollack is great improved or not. Lit my eyes up when I first tasted it 7 years ago and planted one.
What month of the Year can i order this Lara Pollock plant/tree?

I wanna see the avocado! I just bought a grafted super hass olala from green dreams I now have to wait years :( sniffle 😂
Is it hard to keep ur pool clean of avocado leaves ?
Where are the pictures ?

No..u need Both A & B pollinators even if u have only 1 tree you'll have to graft the other onto the tree.
Can I grow the improve Pollock in a pot?I live in Zone 8a
I want that tree for sure

The original pollock avo is flower type b. So maybe also the improved version?
We have the Simmonds in Jamaica
I tried Seedless/none seed Avocado 🥑 in Indonesia is very good 👍
can I get one to grow?

Wish Lara Farms could ship to the USVI
gotta link for those pants @Julian? lol.. i need those

Who does that with mangoes, send out a box with the varieties a person wants to try, I would like to try several of the Zills mango varieties?
now that i live here in florida i want to grow mango and avacado trees
Any chance it will grow in Zone 8b?
not sure but worth a try
What kind is it the best kept secret for south Florida if you only have room for one?
so many to chose from
Thanks México for aguacates 🥑
It was delicious
A year later and I paused the video and went straight over and bought a Lara improved Pollack at Larafarmsmiami 😅😊
Pollock Avocados , are the staple of the Caribbean .
holy mary mother of god i wish i had one of those avacado tree's

So Improved Pollock is better than Maria Black??? (BTW, Brad Spaugh who is the CA avo grower/expert on TFF says that Lamb Hass is garbage.)
I don't remember the maria black tasting as good as the improved pollock but they are both good and both on the dwarf side.
I have tried Many many varieties and my #1 is FUERTE, #2 is Monroe and #3 is Simmonds. Most Avocadoes are GREAT tho. Californians Love AVOCADOS!
Wurtz is a dwarf avocado and likes to hang low (in comparison to Lara Polock). Mine is over 13 years old and stands at 5 feet. But its fruit is inferior to others I've had.
True. Wurtz avocado doesn't have a flavor you'd consider great.
Wurtz from florida are different than the ones from California . Is a very good avocado .
@@vladdelto7491 Yes, I was referring to the Wurtz grown in FL, and to my taste it's mediocre--a little bland, not great.
@@vladdelto7491, I can see that happening.
I've been trying to grow a jan Boyce avocado which some grow well, I can't get mine out of the spindly mod.
We had a Cute producing tree at our home in California. It was also a very poor producer.
you had a Pollock or an "Improved Pollock" ? they are 2 different trees. Pollock is not a good producer but the improved Pollock is a good producer
I've got a plain old regular Pollock. All my neighbors love them. Just to Big to eat more than one per day
Type A are female flowers in the morning....Type B are female flowers in the afternoon
I could have told you that Super Haas is a dud. Found that out 12 years ago from personal experience and thru others.
yes it's a dud for sure
No, Triumph persimmon is not South Florida. The original name for South Florida was Hudson.
Thank you. Good to know. I have both.
Do you know if there is a big difference?
I've been on the search for south Florida/Hudson persimmon for awhile. Even scions would be great.
@@FruitfulTrees Not a big difference. My South Florida was more productive.
What are the seedless avocados called? They are small but creamy and seed is like a dime. Tons of meat!
I don't remember the name but most people just all them seedless Avocados
Pollock is King in Trinidad
pollock is a type B, so the seeding should also be B
after a search I'm seeing that most say it is type A, sorry for t he confusion
Dwarf holding fruit that size? All the dwarf avocados I have produce tiny sized avocados.
Reed avocados 🥑 grow low to the ground too
I love reed. I don't think they grow well in Florida
Improved pollock
Improved Pollock avocado's are out of stock at this time.. Just visited..
Alex at Tropical Acres Farms may also have them for sale
It’s sold out now. 😢
Yes after the video he sold out quickly. I know he had about 15 when I was there.
Monica, he just told me he found 8 more left but they will sell out fast so contact him asap and get one
