- Smt Kaushiki Chakrabarty represents a family of artists hailing from Calcutta, Eastern India. Daughter of the legendary singer, Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, Kaushiki began her musical journey right from her earliest years.
Guided by her father (and Guru), Kaushiki is now one of India's foremost vocal talents and represents the brightest of young stars in the art form today.
She is accompanied by the legendary artist Pandit Sanju Sahai ji of the Benares Gharana (School) of Tabla. Pandit ji is currently the head of the Benares Gharana of Tabla and represents the 6th Generation of Tabla artists hailing from the founder, Pandit Ram Sahai ji.
Providing additional accompaniment on the harmonium, the wonderful Smt Paromita Mukherjee ji.
This excerpt is taken from their performance of the beautiful Raga Jog (Scale) in Teentaal (16 beat rhythm cycle) at the Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh festival in Benares, April 2016.
This festival is one of the largest gatherings of musicians and artists in India over a 6 day and night period. It is certainly one of the most mystical experiences for artists and concert goers alike.

Its the speciality if Banaras and Patiala gharanas. And both Sanju ji and Kaushiki ji are jewellery of those gharanas.
She is the vocalist who go on learning more and more. Which always shows better than others.
Raag Jog is my favorite. Magic of Kaushiki jee makes this rendition heavenly. Presence of both Gandhars give it so joyful feeling. Exquisite singing.

This outstanding performance of Jog should be lodged in a time capsule and preserved to show future worlds what Hindustani Sangeet was capable of in the early years of the twenty-first century. Kaushiki ji's voice is an astonishing instrument, crystal clear like a lake, fluid and fluent as a mountain stream. Her performance here is truly divine; but it's not just technical mastery, she also has an unbounded musical imagination, constantly offering new melodic ideas and a wide range of expressive emotions. And Sankat Mochan seems to offer a perfect acoustic for both her voice and Pandit ji's masterful tabla. क्या बताऊँ, संकट मोचन में ही संकट से मुक्ति मिली, ऐसा लगता है मुझे ....
Replying to my own note above, I find it a great pity that Kaushiki ji has to interrupt her singing with so many directions to her technical team. This becomes quite intrusive on repeated listenings, and detracts from the overall effect.
Pure bliss. We are blessed to have been born in such a rich culture. I hope the new generations keep carrying this rich tradition of ours.

I started listening to Kaushik Ji a couple of months ago and fell in love with my Hndustani classical music. Today, as I write and listening to her early in the morning, it gives me a new look in my daily life. I am feeling really motivated and excited and looking forward to my daily work. When I watched her video it also leads to the introduction to many other classical singers. The music creates vibration in my mind and body. I feel as if swimming in a pool of water which is vibrating due to the intensity of melodious voice and all the instruments being played.

Blend of these instruments and voice of kaushiki madam made the evening memorable. Harmonium which is accompanied very nicely but sound was very less. She also played her instrument with all of her enthusiasm. 👍👍👍
There´s a glow which was alight from these compositions by those saints who did not have other than, people like Tansen and in this new era singer like Mataji Kaushiki Chakrabarty with her own glow enlights those compositions She becomes a Deity herself when singing those beautiful trainned thruti and Lei which in turn have to have trainned ears to be listenned however this

Adding two cents: I am an ardent follower of Hindustani Music right from my Childhood from Dharwad, followed by Carnatic Music from Mysore, now residing in USA with a Hindustani Singer wife and Hindustani singer daughters. It may sound outside the box thinking on Indian Classical Music. Hats off to Vidushi Kaushiki Ji for bringing innovation. How many Hindustani Sanggethkar show Taal on hands while singing, a gift from Carnatic Music. There is an unmet social need for Gurus to make all understand Taal, Laya concept in Hindustani Music through hands. Expecting audience to learn it through seasoned listening may be too far fetched. This approach brings synergy between singer and audience. Interspreading Sargams and Akaras in Taans: I must say that it is her greatest contribution to Hindustani Music. In this concert, she also gave Tabalji to show his flair on his skills apart from Theka which is similar to short Taniavaratan in Carnatic Music. The greatest vision that I personally see in her is that she is adaptable, bring concepts from other fields and fuse it into Hindustani Music, yet preserving the integrity of Hindustani Music. I relate this to my field: Drug development which has to bring different aspects of Science to make a viable pill for patients. I do play Tabla and sing at my level, tutored by my angels with whom we all listen to you. God bless these genes!!

My favourite raaga Jog. Mother used to play late night in Sitar. Tears well down my cheek as this raaga is renditioned. My salutations to Kaushikiji and her illustrious father andit Ajay Chakraborty ji on this superb rendition
