She lived her Christian faith and was a loyal person. During the final days of Nancy Culp (Jane Hathaway) as she was dying from cancer, Donna stayed by her bedside until her passing.
I happened to bump into her when she was evangelizing in Florida in the early 1990's and shook her hand and introduced myself to her. She had her hair and makeup done just like her Ellie May days. Very nice lady. A few years later, I happened to be at one of her friend's homes (I didn't know they were friends). Both of these people were down to earth and didn't act any different than any other person (not stuck up).
I cannot imagine any other person in the role of Elly May. She was always written about as being as sweet and genuine in person as she played in her role. Also, she loved animals the same way. I'm old enough to remember seeing her on Johnny Carson, and he was so enamored with her down-to-earth personality and sweet overall beauty. RIP Doris.
I heard a story that she was in a relationship with Elvis Presley, and when he ended it with her, she was absolutely devastated. Her cast members on the Hillbillies pulled her through that time in her life. Anyway another great video Lamont.
I don't know about any romance between them , but she and Elvis were in a movie together. It was set on a riverboat, and they played Frankie and Johnny , ( like the song ).
I loved the Beverly Hillbillies as a child. I grew up in the south , and was a pretty blonde southern Belle. My sorority nickname in college was " Elly May" , lol. I felt honored to be called Elly May. Miss Douglas was a classy and lovely lady.
I thought her most impressive role was when she starred in an episode of Twilight Zone. The episode was called "The Eye of the Beholder" and aired in 1960. She had a very serious role and she was wonderful.
Donna Douglas such a beautiful lady. I loved how she called her critters... Rocked a rope belt.. head locked any man who messed with her. Thanx Lamont for her mini bio. She was a joy and I'm glad she did well for herself. Lamont.. sit a spell take your shoes off .. y'all come back now hear🤗
Just a suggestion. If you ever get through the Wichita Ks area, I can take you to the Graves of many kids lost to Childhood Cancer. One being my daughter. I started a non profit after my daughter's death and have run around looking for as many as I could to honor them.
Sorry to hear that. I live in Wichita KS lost my son to SIDS 3½ years ago and stay across the street from a cemetery on hillside. That is amazing that you're doing a nonprofit! Keep up the good work!
I remember my dad called me Elly May often as a little girl because I loved animals and would always go and pick up random bugs, lizards, frogs, turtles, etc.and bring them in the house to show him and my mom. I loved playing in the dirt. Now, I'm a girly girl who hates bugs and slimy creatures lol. But i still get dirty for my niece and nephew who loves playing in the yard and hunting for snails hahaha. Thank you Lamont for another spectacular video!
Went to Graceland once and she made a movie with Elvis. ((PS: Life isn't over after a divorce...)) The only surviving Beverly Hillbillies actor alive is Max Baer JR who played Jethro. He's still working as a producer and director behind the scenes.
She seemed like a very kind woman from everything I’ve read about her and seen in interviews. She did a great job on Beverly Hillbillies. Great video Lamar, keep up the great work!
RIP Donna Douglas (born Doris Ione Smith) (September 26, 1932 - January 1, 2015)(aged 82) you will truly be missed and my prayers go out to you and your family. I enjoy watching "The Beverly Hillbillies" (1962-1971). The fact about Donna Douglas was super-close to her on-screen Hillbillies father. Douglas found a real-life father figure in Buddy Ebsen, who played her father Jed Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies. In an interview with The Lincoln Times-News, she called him “a wonderful man, very much like my own father, a quiet, reserved, and caring person.”
I got to visit her grave a couple years ago, and I never realized she was a couple months younger than my Mother..... I did grow up in the 60's watching them on tv every Wednesday evening at 6:30, and loved every episode :D
I am heart broken because I was in Clinton Louisiana all day I didn't get a chance to meet you It would been truly a blessing to meet you because I am a super fan of your work I would have love to have buy you lunch and pay for your gas because I really appreciate what you do it would have been a blessing may the Good lord continue to bless you and keep you safe wrap in his loving arms🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾❤🤍💙❤🤍💙
I met her one time when I was a little boy going to the nursery home in Zachary, Louisiana with my grandmother visiting her mother, who also was in the nursing home, and she spoke to me. She was visiting her mother, who also was in the nurseing home a very sweet lady rest in peace❤🙏🏾🪽 her and my grandmother would talk all the time 😢❤
Donna also played Frankie in the 1966 Elvis movie Frankie and Johnny. I understand she had a big crush on Elvis and actually wanted to date him but somehow the feeling was not mutual. Where I heard this was many years ago and they said it put her into depression afterwards. I think it was a biography on her life but she really did not do much of anything after the Beverly Hillbillies. She was born a Smith and buried there with her family. She was married twice, first time 1951-1954 and had a son then from 1971-1980.
Granny was Jed Clampetts mother-in-law. Jethros mother was Jed Clampetts sister, meaning Jethro was Jeds nephew and Ellie Mae was Jeds daughter who grew up to be a tomboy because her mother had died and Jed let her be more tomboy that a proper 'lady-like' girl. Donna Douglas also made a movie with Elvis, called "Frankie and Johnny" Thanks for this video!
I remember Beverly hillbillies this show even though the show was made before I was born in 81 I remember watching this show in the early mid 90s on TV land what a classic show rest in peace too Elly May stay safe Lamont
I do enjoy how you tell the stories, very entertaining. I've always thought Doris/Donna/Elly May was a very gorgeous woman. Seemed like a sweet person too. Thanks for sharing.
Interesting commentary on Donna Douglas. Lovely graveyard for a lovely lady's Final testing place. The Twilight Zone episode was one of the better ones, "Eye of the Beholder." Unfortunately, such programs as "The Beverly Hillbillies" promoted a cliched view of rural people that still persists to some degree today. "Country" doesn't have to mean "stupid." It was a moral crime how Hollywood treated her after the series ended. Far as the Disney affair goes, very few can match their money and that usually leads to an outcome in their favor. To me, the Disney organization is much too powerful. There was a day not so long ago when they would have been forced to sell off some of the franchises they own.
I'm here in Baton Rouge,Louisiana. Talented lady. Roselawn cemetery here has the grave of Dr. Tichenor , and Patrick Sonnier (the man who was executed) at Angola prison providing the main charater in the movie "Dead Man Walking". Also are many Gypsy graves with photographs on stones. In Green oaks cemetery here is the grave of Barry Seal.
Wow, Great video Lamont! You are some storyteller! She was a beautiful, classy lady! My mom was also from Louisiana, and might I say a nice looking lady also. I see her real last name was Smith, maybe a distant relative 😀!
Jethro Bodine (though he addresses Jed as his uncle) was the son of Jed's cousin, Pearl Bodine. Elly May (portrayed by Donna Douglas in all 274 episodes), played the only child of Jed and Rose Ellen Clampett, Granny's name on the show was actually Daisy May Moses & was not Jeds mother she was Jed's mother-in-law, show ran from 1962 to 1971
She also was in a Elvis movie called Frankie and Johnny and it was Jed his mother in law granny and his nephew jethro and of course Ellie May Jed’s daughter
She lived her Christian faith and was a loyal person. During the final days of Nancy Culp (Jane Hathaway) as she was dying from cancer, Donna stayed by her bedside until her passing.
That's love
That's actually pretty touching
❤🙏Thanks for Sharing This 💐🥂
My sister in law’s grandmother and her were the best of friends! She was a very genuine and sweet person. Always stayed true to her roots 💗
Yeah right
The Beverly Hillbillys has been on MeTV all day. Been watching. She was great.

One of my favorites. May she forever rest in peace. Good commentary.

She was a sweet lady She visited the college I attended and gave a speech. ♥️
She really seemed that way in interviews...like someone you'd known forever
@@conservativehippie9736 She was a devoted Christian, and she loved people 🙂

Changing her hair to blonde really made her stand out and even prettier.

Lol. “Go be pretty or something.” Love it.
Thanks Lamont. Interesting. Which I could read what she originally wrote which was similar to Sister Act. Just to see what the resemblances are.
I met her a few back in Missouri and she was a really nice
