I've been a Metallica fan since 2003, during my high school years. I've also been playing guitar since and yes, the most important thing for that 80s Metallica tone is an eq in the loop of the amp.

I used a Parametric EQ for this in the FX loop. How does it sound? I cannot figure out what speakers Metallica would have used to record MOP.

@@maczepa They would've been using Celestion G12T-75s. Some people say they were using G12-65s but I've found zero evidence supporting that theory. The evidence I've found for them using the 75s is in Flemming Rasmussen's notes for the recording of Master of Puppets. Some of the notes mention a "300 watt cabinet" which we know was a Marshall 4x12 meaning it was most likely the 75s (75 x 4 = 300) because they were used in the same Marshall cabinets during that time. It's also very likely they used the 75s on Ride the Lightning and ...And Justice For All too.

Didn’t James also use a modded jcm800 mixed in with the boogie?

@@oldmatevb Kinda. Honestly you don't need it. A high gain amp, these speakers and the biggest thing is the EQ in the FX loop.... I just released a video short proving it.
