She isn't crying. It's the folk style. I question if westerners can actually sing like this. I heard in a different era people would scrap the throat to help them sing this folk style. Song So Hee has sung like this since 8 years old. She's been a national treasure of Korea since she was like 12. She can sing for well over a minute without any obvious breathing. It's nuts. She is in a league unknown to the rest of the world.

I just discovered this version of Spring Day by Song So Hee… I love her and how she sang a sad song that penetrates more into your heart. I just noticed how they perfectly put even the background: 1. Started from winter to spring day with a white ribbon. 2. The water and the ribbon turn yellow (it might be a reference to the Sewol tragedy ) 3. The City of Korea? The ribbon turns to purple (borahae) 4. Stars/Galaxy (It reminds me of the Mikrokosmos MAMA 2019 performance) 5. Season change - Fall is at once symbolic of plenty, ripening, harvest, and abundance; and, at the same time, a symbol of decay, decline, old age, and even death. 6. The tree became white and full of stars. This hit differently because I believe she sang it in traditional Korean (Pansori) which brings out all the emotions. 🫰💜
slight slight slight correction....she's not a pansori singer. She's a gyeongi minyeo (a traditional folk singer from the Gyeongi region). There's a slight difference. She often says that she's not a pansori singer even though both techniques share very similar vocal techniques
Her rendition was amazing, her idea to incorporate child chorus (when you associate it with the Sewol ferry tragety behind the lyrics) and her pansori background, made the song devastatingly beautiful as it should be. Make sure you don't miss her "Tearful Tumen River" rendition. She is one of the brightest Korean creative gems.

The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out.
