Brilliant details absent of needless scrutiny. To the point. I just purchased the Premium R with all the packaged options and the 20s and it's being prepped at the dealer prior to pickup. I test drove one with 19in threads and am ready to asseess the impending road-noise issue; but, the GLI with hi-indexes I had just 2 days ago rendered me with some immunity; so I likely will not mistake any bumps for bruises. Now that I (almost) have it, I feel like putting it under a tarp to preserve it. 'Stuck in the middle with you' comes into play, and I can't wipe this smile from my face with anticipation. Thank you for wonderful review.

But you were slightly wrong about German roads: there are thousands of miles of German roads which are in absolutely terrible condition with pothole after pothole, huge bumps and so on. And not only the roads but also a lot of bridges as well, though. Well... welcome to the 21st century, lol

Collecting a 2018 r line this week. Great review - I wasnt sure i had made the right choice but this has reassured me. Wondering if any reliability issues with the techs at this age?

Great review. I've a diesel Arteon on order and wasn't sure how a lot of the technology worked. It's explained better on this video than VW did on theirs.

Chatta290 Wow. Very happy with it so far. Only 1500 km on it but not many of them around so surprised it's taking so long.
John Morgan yeah very exclusive, it’s due to the WLTP regulations so factory’s are shut and engine production won’t restart until October so if lucky you could get one at the end of October or potentially have to wait until February if a dealer can’t get any early build slots. VW are having major issues across all brands as they can’t test the cars in time so have to stop production. My parents said that a bigger car than a golf would be too hard for me to drive but I beg to differ and from just manoeuvring their 7 series on our tight driveway I do feel as if saloons are easier to park more somewhat than the golf as I actually can tell where the bonnet and rear bumper ends but you know as I’m a new driver and would need financial help I will stick to the golf, the 1.5 TSI is the same for insurance though as a 1.6TDI golf GT so that’s one of the good things considering the car costs 10k more. This car is very impressive though from the looks of things and yes it’s similar to the golf and what we already have with thr sat nav but the technology is further improved along with the looks which make the car far more aesthetically pleasing than the 4 series for example and dare I say it the A5 which is poorly equipped plus I would love an auto.

i have the Arteon hear in Australia just bought it R spec 206kw all wheel drive & love it can't fault it so far all the tech is great the car basically drivers itself

Allan Bollins I’m about to buy the same one. Demo model, 5,000ks, so far $56,000 drive away. Good price or can I get it lower? (This one is in white with 20” wheels, sound pack and sunroof).
i paid not to much more for white all options & 54 klms i think you can do better
Allan Bollins I went to five different dealers, none of them could come close, all had the option of taking my business but all said it was an unbelievable deal. Car listed for $59k, I actually just picked it up an hour ago, paid $55,800 - has the sunroof as well as the wheels and sound pack plus got an additional one year full manufacturers warranty for free.
i want one. makes my CC look poor. will wait until there on the 2nd hand market. my CC was a hire car, so there is hope i will get one
Great review, different in tone and style than other reviews out there. One piece of advice, when you try to open the trunk with your foot, the car needs to be locked. (I know, I own an arteon). Would have loved to see the auto parking being tested out and I recommend getting the 4motion it's a huge difference. Best of luck.

Allan Bollins on a lease is it needed? I think not unless it snows often, even on a BMW it’s pointless as the dealer will even tell you

arteon is just better than any other car.. i was a huge mercedes fan but after my first meet and greet with the arteon. even an AMG can piss off. Audi S3? Audi RS3? Audi S4? why? the arteon also has 300hp. and the R-Line just looks awesome.

I was all in on the "transparency" of this review until you bragged about 41mpg and then proceeded to include a shot of the average MPG at 7:28 returning 26.4mpg...
But either way, this is probably my next car!
Thanks for the comment Anthony - the MPG quoted is what Howard sees on real world driving during his time with the car and is true. The shots in the film, represent what happens on the day of filming only. i.e. the car may be static, driving differently and so on. Hope that helps? Do let us know how you get on too with yours :)

1.5 liter, 2.0 liter, 563 liter and then, 41 miles to the gallon wtf, make a choice!
What are you on about? 1.5 litre was another engine option, 2.0 litre was the engine in the car he was reviewing. 563 litres is the capacity of the boot and 41 mpg is the fuel consumption. Not sure where the confusion lies, these are the units we use to measure such things here in the UK (where the review is made).
