    Great info as always! Two questions:
    1. Have you ever compared 12:1 to Q5? I always shoot at Q5 because I feel the file size is smaller in most cases.
    2. I've never remapped the sensor. How much of a difference does that make?

    • @GOLDWULF
      @GOLDWULF  3 роки тому +4

      What’s up bud!? I haven’t compared the two in detail yet but most definitely will. Anything to save more space. Remapping refreshes your pixels to ensure a clean picture every time. It’s suggest by Blackmagic to do this often.

    • @aristomenis_k
      @aristomenis_k 3 роки тому +1

      @@GOLDWULF Yeah, space is quite important since IQ is great even in the lowest recording settings. I've found that at 4K 24p, pocket eats about 1GB/minute which translates to about 200mbps, that is just double than most cameras record, yet files are way easier to payback and the detail is perfectly retained throughout the range. I've worked with Sony 8bit footage and shadows where a blocky mess.
      I'll try the remapping to see if it's going to improve the image, thanks!

    Hey great idea for a video man, and pretty timely as well. Been getting more serious about getting all the elements together necessary to start working on my first short, mainly as practice before a true passion project can happen.
    This video is really encouraging, because it’s kind of like taking a step back; almost a mental check or reset. All the stuff I’ve been cramming into my head over the past year or so can be pretty overwhelming. Having it simplified and summarized like this gives me courage to keep going and give it a shot. As lost as I am sometimes, I can at least look back and realize I’ve learned quite a bit without having any real experience, so at least I have something to build on.
    K, I don’t know why I’m sharing all that, little bit of self talk maybe, but I do appreciate your content bro!

    why is this video so grainy?

  • @zachnfine
    @zachnfine 3 роки тому

    I might be mistaken, but I don't think the choice of film or log color profile makes any change to the resulting file if recording to the BMRaw codec -though the choice does affect how the raw video is mapped to the display so it can still be a useful setting that provides a more contrasty look than Film that might be closer to the look of the finished video. When recording to BMRaw, the camera always records 12-bit log regardless the profile setting (might not be exactly log, as BM calls it "12-bit non-linear"). The choice of color profile will, however, make a big difference when recording directly to Prores.

    No matter what my settings are... my footage doesn’t look as good as what I see online. Even if I shoot 1200 iso, my footage is still noisy. I don’t like using too much denoise on my files, because it takes away from the natural filmic look in my opinion. If I flood my subject with light it looks decent. But I didn’t buy this camera for a studio setup. I want more of a run and gun style when I can. I’m thinking maybe it’s my glass. I’m shooting with Rokinon lenses. Do you think that’s my problem? I need to get my footage like your low light test when you shot the little girl that was playing by the Christmas trees.

    Completely disagree with you that you should always shoot under native ISO. I prefer 800 for high dynamic range shots to protect highlights, and lower the ISO in post. Noise isn't a problem because you can denoise, and since you're NEVER going to deliver in 6k, downresing to 4k or 2k will also improve an visible noise issues

      Good points, I’ve found the new color gen (gen 5) helps in the shadows more than before. Also, since I add film grain to just about Everything, I want the cleanest image I can possibly get. Another reason is I NEVER denoise my footage ever. I can’t speak from a Davinci Resolve perspective but can as a Premiere users. In the past I found denoising footage never worked well when exporting. Or premiere just shutting shutting down on me. This could have changed recently but it’s was such a nightmare in the past I avoid it completely. Appreciate your comment and perspective.

    Thanks for the video. Nice production but I think you missed a massive reason why the standard of 24 FPS was chosen. Although cost was a factor, another huge reason why 24 became the standard was that shooting at other than higher 24fps (using the right shutter of 1/48th) created unrealistic motion... 🤙 if it was just, 15 could have been chosen... 24fps was the trade off which just ‘worked’ 😉
