  • Hey friends, The Oodnadatta Track is legendary amongst outback explorers. We were so glad the roads opened again after all the rain, though we did encounter a few puddles early in the journey leaving Oodnadatta. In this episode we visit the William Creek hotel, take a scenic flight over the Painted Hills of Anna Creek, see water in Lake Eyre, and check out the Camel Cup at Marree.
    Our 4x4 Sprinter van managed the Oodnadatta Track really well. This was an epic adventure!
    Please consider subscribing to our channel - we bring you travel guides and vanlife tips weekly with a peek into our lives on the road.

    Rode my bicycle from Marree to Oodnadatta, got a lift out Lake Eyre, which was full of water and heaps of water fowl from William Creek. Didn't have problems like you did, swimming in the mound springs. Rode through the Painted Desert through Arkaringa Station and Copper Hills Station reaching Cadney Park Roadhouse. An awesome trip. Happy travelling!!!

      Each day maybe 3 or 4 vehicles, there were a lot of people I. William Creek when we stayed there, but we were alone at the railway siding campsite. The camel races were very crowded. A lot of people had just come down from the “big red bash” which is an outback music festival

    Howdy, we’re also thinking of doing the Oodnadatta track in a similar van as yours (2007 sprinter 315 LWB RWD high roof etc) except it’s not a 4WD and is not lifted. We went to a tyre shop in Alice Springs to see if we could get some all terrain tyres (Toyo Open Country ATIII) but the bloke there said the track should be doable on the commercial tyres that are on the van at the moment. We’re fully loaded so the van isn’t as high as the 4WD. Is that reasonable advise or would having some AT capabilities be better for peace of mind if it’s at all doable? We’re only going from Marla to Oodnadatta and from there to Coober Pedy and only if there is no rain (which the BOM says it’s clear for the next few days). Anyway, thanks for the video uploads, you guys are fun to watch, cheers!

    • @nigelandsueadventures
      @nigelandsueadventures  11 місяців тому +1

      Hey Walter, the track should be in fairly good condition now after the rain. I imagine it's been graded, and at least it should have dried out. We actually had more trouble on the Kempe Road (the road from Oodnadatta to Coober) - I'm not sure if you've seen that video. We didn't drive from Oodnadatta to Marla, we went from Coober to Oodnadatta then down the track to Marree. I reckon if the roads are dry you would be right. Good luck! Let us know how you go.
