Anything involving Leonard’s mom, she is cold-hearted and treats her family like science experiments. She should have never became a mother in the first place.
i definitely can't stand Dr Beverley Hofstader. As a psychiatrist she should've known that a child needs actual love, and the fact that she is a clinical psychiatrist proves her hypocrisy (how can she help her patients restructure their relationships into something positive when she herself can't bond with her own son). I'm sure there are plenty of books/articles about motherhood that doesn't come off as using the child as an experiment.
I find it unfortunate that they had to take Stuart's character in that direction, I actually enjoyed the suave easygoing charm he had in the beginning while still maintaining his interests in comics and art. The dramatic turn to his character makes you feel like his interests attributed to his failures in the end, as if that's how it ends up for every person who enjoys things that are "geeky". The comic book store not making him money, how he wasted his life studying art, how he's an older man still without a partner because of his image, etc. They took a lame turn for him.
Leonard forgiving his mother still makes me mad, because she never loved him nor cared for him. She constantly tells others how much her other children are successful and he’s a major disappointment.
Beverley did care - in her own way. She could be diagnosed as on the autistic spectrum - for her research is pleasure and it was a pleasure to be with her son. Also, why do you think Sheldon was Leonard’s best friend? Because he’s exactly like Beverley.
@@ddjr6673 No she didn't. She never bothered to connect to Leonard and emotionally abused him every time he tried to gain affection from her. She even admitted that she only had children to study them rather than love them. Not to mention she blames Leonard for the problems he has instead of accepting that she was horrible to him. And she's not autistic. Autistic people lacking empathy is a stereotype. She does, however, show many traits of NPD.
Exactly! And the fact that she used Leonard’s shitty childhood to make a quick buck is beyond sick! She deserves as much forgiveness as a nazi! Or a member of the KKK!
I didn't like it, but it made sense for Leonard. I'd never do it myself, but I could see why Leonard constructed it the way he did. But how great was Christine Baranski in that scene?! She makes it like Beverly ALMOST gets it, maybe on an intellectual level, but will never, ever be able to be any kind of mother to Leonard. She and Johnny work so, so well together.
Yeah I was ok with basically any time Sheldon was upset. I like to watch n see anytime Sheldon deserves nothing but an instantaneous Headbutt to his face, I shout “Headbutt.” N it happens often. I get he’s supposed to be “quirky” but most of the time he’s straight up inconsiderate and rude to the point where I think if more people smacked him around a bit he may grasp the concept faster
Agreed there were waaaay worse things. ESPECIALLY since he was consistently abusive and demeaning to the others. I can’t say justifiable as trying to embarrass him is definitely wrong but compared to the rest of the humor on the show that was low level
There is a fantastic pair of videos about the "Adorkable Misogyny of TBBT" that is so worth a watch. TBBT is a fascinating case study because real life actually outpaced it during its production, esp. where nerd culture is concerned. The idea that a nerd is a socially awkward sweetheart who deserves a gorgeous girlfriend for... reasons was already a problem in the 1980s. The belief that women need to excuse men's creepy, toxic, and abusive behavior so that WE DON'T HURT THEIR FEELINGS is something that has caused so much social damage. The show is a good way to unpack some of that. But yes. Penny NEVER should have apologized to Howard. Her feelings mattered as much as his.
I’m surprised there was no mention of Sheldon constantly demeaning Amy. He pointed out her dandruff, oily hair, he spent endless episodes cooking up ways to make her miserable. I liked her character, so I’m glad they kept her, but I couldn’t get past the fact that Sheldon never apologized or changed his treatment of her.
Ikr, I'm always surprised that people so rarely talk about how incredibly insulting and disrespectful Sheldon is to Amy. He's at his worst just after the break-up as it's so disgusting and uncomfortable how dehumanising and horrible he is then but that's far from the only time he treated her badly as he was pretty possessive and was still disrespecting her until the very end by not even listening to her speech and calling it a big day 'for him' and not for 'us'.
@@heatherstephenson3559Did you watch the final episode? He saw the error of his ways, after Amy called him out on it and gave a speech in which he apologized to all of them and allowed them all to share his moment by naming them and having them stand up to be recognized.
@@tommiejonsson8952 Yeah, the finale speech moment was really overrated, I thought as for Penny and Leonard, it was just about what he wanted with her pregnancy even though she didn't want kids and the speech doesn't make up for Sheldon's awful treatment of the others as he still says 'sorry if I haven't been the best friend' and still got everything he wanted without having to make any compromises while not even listening to Amy's speech.
I detested when Sheldon made Leonard wear an itchy sweater until he's able to return a DVD that he rented years ago, only to then reveal that he actually paid for it years ago, yet was trying to teach Leonard a lesson. That's not funny, just mean spirited.
As much as I hate to admit it, even I can think of some better, more harmless ways to get back at both of them. Coming up with five limericks (those are poems in which the first, second, and fifth lines rhyme, as do the third and fourth), listing the movies you hate the most and why, performing an interpretive dance of John Philip Sousa’s “The Liberty Bell March”-I’d make sure to include those two lines from _Monty Python’s Flying Circus,_ “And now for something completely different.” “It’s…”-you name it.
I am surprised there isn't at least an honorable mention for how they treated Zack. Even after Penny criticized them for it, the show continued to make fun of Zack.
For me, and I'm surprised you didn't mention this, it's finding out that Bernadette knew for 2 years that Leonard cheated on Penny and never said a word. That was so out of character of her and honestly awful, even more so because it never went anywhere because the show knew it would be truly unforgiveable if Penny ever found out.
Didnt he "cheat" on her when he was on a ship? If so, it aint cheating. You try to survive with no sex and stranded on a ship and if you manage to stay sane, great!
The French maid costume was completely justified, because Howard wasn't just standing up for himself, he was standing up for everyone who sheldon degraded and bullied. Not only that, his ego shoots beyond heaven in this episode when he hears about hawking, about how he's his only equal and compares everyone else to dogs
I have to disagree with Howard having Sheldon wearing a french maid outfit being unforgiveable. I saw it as Sheldon getting his comeuppance for how he treats Howard.
I agree 100%. I couldn’t believe that was one on the list. First of all the way the episode starts with Howard going to be nice and tell Sheldon about giving him a chance to see hawking and before Sheldon knew he treated him horribly. (Seems like that was forgotten to a lot of people). 2 Howard said if he does these things to make up for it he will give his paper to hawking. He didn’t force Sheldon to do it he gave him the option to do it or don’t meet him(which we find out later he gave the paper to hawking already). 3 they’ve all dressed up in woman’s costumes and went into the comic book store. So he already experienced that kind of humiliation and embracing it a little in the cafeteria. In general Sheldon says and does mean things that are cruel so the fact he wasn’t really on this list is disappointing. Like when he put bugs in Leonard’s food
Agreed. Sheldon is actually my favorite but at the same time I found the way he treated people, particularly Howard, despicable so I thought he deserved it. I did not feel bad for him at all!
Lenard’s mother not caring reminds me of my grandmother. I was cleaning her house because I needed a job. And I have a bad habit of apologizing. My grandmother noticed I say it a lot that she called me pathetic. I stopped what I was doing and cried. Did she care? No! She just sat there and felt no remorse.
The fact Sheldon isn't on the list is stupid. It validates all of his meanness. People make excuses for Sheldon like oh he doesn't understand what he does. He understands exactly what he does.its all thought out by him. He's mean, pompous and arrogant
I wish Leonard’s mom actually acknowledged how poor of a mother she was, felt remorse and tried to genuinely be more nurturing. The fact that he spelled out to her why he was angry with her and her treatment and she still didn’t seem to care or grasp the depth of how disappointed he was was frustrating and the resolution that Leonard should forgive her since that’s how she is didn’t sit well with me.
Ironic how you guys post this right after the Barenaked Ladies concert in Toronto last night. They performed the theme song and it was absolutely awesome!!
I hated how they wrote Penny to be pregnant in the finale, despite her being vocal about not wanting children. Even worse, they conceived when Penny was drunk, but Leonard was sober, and didn't even use protection. It's upsetting to think that your partner would take advantage of you being under the influence like that.
The real penny would have definitely got an abortion. The show didn't even explore that option. They just ended up going with the sexist stereotype that the storyline of every woman has to end with a husband and kids.
One of the most rude and self serving characters in recent media And this is how he treats his "friends"... He should be thankful anyone is willing to spend time with him
As a geek myself, my biggest pet peeve is the girls trying to change the guys as the seasons went on, especially Penny and Bernadette. Leonard and Howard were geeks when they fell in love with them, so trying to change that was ridiculous. Like when Bernadette wanted to get rid of Howard’s Tardis. That episode really made me hate her.
I hated this. It went from a cast of individuals with all sorts of dorky interests to the same old Battle of the Sexes husbands v wives shit that we've seen since The Honeymooners and I Love Lucy, but with more wine. Amy, Bernadette, and Penny went from being dynamic and unique women with hobbies, ambitions, and interests to... moms who sit around drinking wine and talking about how exasperating their manbaby husbands are. In the 2020s, can't we do better?
Comedy is by far the trickiest genre to write for in an era where more and more people are becoming aware of how certain jokes can effect a person's mental health. Fat shaming, slut shaming, making light of an individual's mental illness. All of these jokes do little to help audiences become more aware of, and sensitive too, the real life struggles that shows like TBBT exploit just to generate laughter and ratings. We need to convince Hollywood to produce more shows that can make us laugh without jokes that come at the expense of another person's sense of self-worth, which, unfortunately, may be tough to do given how successful certain sitcoms have become as a result of having fallen back on those tried-and-true methods of eliciting laughter from audiences.
Finally, someone who doesn't go all, “Oh, boo-hoo, people are too sensitive nowadays," or “Y'all need to lighten up, it's just a TV show." Those guys are the worst.
@@annafowdy This show is SATIRE!! It is supposed to make you AWARE of bad behavior so that you DON'T do it in real life. When people become personally offended/personally attacked by the behavior of the characters' actions then they are missing the WHOLE POINT of the LESSONS being taught through satiric writing. The writing is pointing out the evils of stereotyping entire sections of society (nerds, pretty girls, overweight people, scrawny people, anxiety ridden people, introverts, extroverts, etc). Comedies like this are just as much of a social commentary as movies like "Get Out" and "Us" by Jordan Peele, but somehow DRAMATIC satire is praised while COMEDIC satire is just "mean."
@@jasonmistretta4295 well, if that's the case, they do a terrible job getting their messages across. Also, I know what satire looks like. I've watched Saturday Night Live.
@@annafowdy You were OFFENDED so the message got across to you PERFECTLY, but you took it PERSONALLY which means you didn't understand the lesson of satire. Dreamworks is satirization for children (kid gloves you might say). Watch TV shows like "All in the Family," Married with Children," and "Seinfeld" for the adult version.
I think what Howard does to Sheldon is great because he is always belittling Howards education and when he wants something expects him to just do it. I loved that episode because Sheldon finally got a little taste of his own medicine.
@@AdmiralJaneway74656 that was in the series finale but that was to knock some sense into him because Sheldon couldn’t believe that him and Amy had won the Nobel Prize.
I think the things Sheldon has done can fill this entire list, and then some. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I really didn't like Sheldon. I fail to see how the self-proclaimed "smartest man in the world" never grasp the fact that he is selfish, condescending, and immature. How he treated Leonard and Amy is unforgivable. I still can't believe she took him back.
the worst thing is how all three girls constantly put the boys hobbies down as something stupid. The Tardis? Stupid. The Comic books? Stupid. etc. They also always say that no woman EVER would want to e. g. play DnD, read Comic books or watch Batman, which is absolutely not true. Especially Penny. If you don't want to party and drink every single second, you don't have a life in her opinion and that is VERY toxic.
The show gets a lot of mileage out of undercutting the awfulness of the guys behavior by either emphasizing that they don't know it's wrong because they're socially awkward or painting them as harmless because they aren't typically masculine or confident or conventionally attractive, so there's no "threat" behind their behavior.
mixed feelings about Leonard forgiving his mother. I like him choosing forgiveness as a way to let go of all the pent up emotions he has towards her instead of letting them fester further, but I can't help thinking it rings fairly hollow when Beverly is never once apologizes or owns up to what an awful parent she was and still is to him. -- There's a part of me that really wishes that Leonard just snaps after learning the visit was a lie and just tells his mother to get out of his home and out of his life, unloading all of those emotions and finally calling her out as never caring about anyone but herself
2:40 Just because Sheldon is a condescending jerk, that does not give Howard the right to mess with Sheldon the way that he did? This is based on the logic that revenge is stooping to the level of the initial wrong doer. By seeking vengeance, you are no better than the other person. I do not see it that way. If a kidnapper is arrested, is the police officer stooping to the level of the kidnapper by putting the kidnapper in hand cuffs? It was hilarious seeing Wolowitz put Sheldon in his place.
There were definitely a few moments in the show that rubbed me the wrong way. The one that I'll mention here: Bernadette trying to sell Howard's TARDIS out from under him. In Season 8 Episode 19's "The Skywalker Incursion", Bernadette tries putting Howard's model TARDIS up for grabs in a garage sale and later suggests it as the prize for a Table Tennis tournament. Her reason for doing so? She thinks it's stupid. Early on, I felt Howard and Bernadette's relationship was really sweet and they did seem like a really great couple. But then, when she does stuff like this, completely undermining Howard's opinions and possessions, I feel this is a little bit asshole-ish of her. How much do you wanna bet that if Howard tried to sell off something of hers she would not have been happy about it? There were other ways she could have gone about it. Like, if he said to him "Listen, we're thinking about starting a family soon, and with kids we could really use the extra space. Is there any way you could move it somewhere else or do you know someone who would buy it from you?" But no, she immediately goes "I don't like it, so it's going. End of." Female dog behaviour. Admittedly though, it does give us a funny scene with Sheldon pretending to be Tom Baker.
Some of these are just consequences to the characters actions. If you treat people badly, why would you think you could count on different in return? It is an unreasonable expectation.
This show doesn't try to paint their main characters in any good light or make them out to be models of good behavior and personality. They are incredibly (and exaggeratedly) flawed characters with few moments of growth and personal integrity. For the most part, we watch these characters making all sorts of bad social and personal judgement calls, that most of us probably would never make ourselves, but that's where the humor comes from.
One unforgivable moment I felt should've been on the list was the episode where everyone goes to Howard's mom's for thanksgiving and they find out penny's married to Zack. And Leonard ends up whining to penny and being a baby about it the entire time. Trying to make himself look like the victim instead of keeping his mouth shut and stay quietly but understandably angry till they got the annulment processed. No, he had to make it all about him. Also, it should be mentioned about Bernadette's emotional and psychological abuse towards everyone.
I love this show. I never thought of finding offense in what is being presented here. It's a sitcom. It is comedy and everyone watching it knows that. Sort of reminds me of when my favorite Saturday morning cartoons were taken off the air by the morality police in the late sixties. Unfortunately, they actually had authority to do so.
@@KittenUndercover : I sure will keep on loving in my little bubble. It is so much better than hating and castigating whatever one deems offensive. I truly hope that the latter is not a description of the bubble you live in JM.
@@KittenUndercoverHow does it feel, spending every waking moment looking for something to be offended by? What's the motivation? It's a waste of life, and you look petty, not morally superior. You're probably a hypocrite too, and laugh at all kinds of things you may not find offensive, but may offend others. Grow up, get a life, a sense of humor, or keep to yourself and stop ruining the rest of our enjoyment. Life is short, and you choose to make it difficult, and humorless. Pathetic
@@davidz3879 Actually, I hate all the characters (except for Marshall. He’s actually decent and a likable guy). Robin is petty, mean and selfish, Lily is selfish, manipulative, and a hypocrite, Ted is a whiny, entitled, manipulative and creepy STALKER who is unable to accept the word NO and treats women like test subjects. Barney is the absolute worst- he literally gloats about raping women and it’s absolutely disgusting
the one with beverly (leonard's mom), it's kinda have a different perspective for me, to me she loves leonard the most here's my reason why: 1. she wrote a book about leonard growing up 2. she is the same as sheldon but more mature, in one episode sheldon mention that having a talk with beverly but in the ends the topic of the conversation goes to leonard 3. in the episode that mentioned in the video, she was genuinely happy with spending time with her son even though her reasoning is to research and in the end of that episode she was crying when leonard lets his emotions out 4. leonard's sister got some archievement and i think raj or howard says she must be happy about it but she says its not to me she is the female sheldon (even more than amy initially), she truly love leonard and wanted him to be the top of everything, that's why she seems uncaring of his archievement because she wanted for leonard to reach the top and not to be satisfied with his current archievement, i think because she knows that once leonard gets the love he deserves he would stop trying just like that episode where leonard and penny after they married got in a fight that penny thinks leonard is taking her for granted now that they're married, so that's my reason for beverly should not be in this list
The show’s speciality is offensive humor, which is already a tricky thing to do right, but they just use it for easy laughs. That’s always the downfall of every sitcom. Using easy and lazy jokes rather than actually making the jokes perfectly blend with the story and giving the show the respect it deserves.
I find it ridiculous that people are so critical of fictional characters! No one is making fun of real people… learn how to relax and stop being critical of those u feel are critical… that’s a little hypocritical , don’t you think??
so as Stewart become a more regular cast member, he takes on Rasj's role as the mute guy around women, because later on, Raj is completely cured of his fear of talking to women, so I guess they needed a new mute character
Yeah, she was way nicer in the beginning. But I believe that she changed because of Howard's character. Because he was living with his mother, became dependent on her and needed pampering in everything. And she is turning into a nice-looking version of his mother (even the voice sometimes familiar). And Howard also sees her flaws (like when she was hiding in children's house outside and in zero gravity experience) l. But they accept that, still love each other and find it OK to tolerate those drawbacks.
@@dimidrugg9592 if we are going on that road there are only 2 people in TBBT that were the nicest of them all - Leonard and Amy. Cause Penny is kinda a bully, Howard is inappropriate (but latter significantly improves), Raj is offensive (body shaming), we discussed Bernadette and Sheldon, well... And in case of Amy and Leonard - I can't remember much times where they were mean to people and their friends on purpose.
@@Wikia3033 Leonard was mistreating Sheldon quite often. And all those characters that you mentioned had at least some positive traits while Bernadette was rather uninteresting in my view.
@@dimidrugg9592 that's the reason I like not to think to much about the sitcom character. Because now I find most of them too disturbing - like Ross in Friends, or here in the TBBT. Or I'm watching the Office currently- though it's funny, but not do much- like Michael Scott way to inappropriate...
The fact that Penny is considered a victim in this list is baffling. She uses every single character in the show. Her treatment and manipulation of Leonard throughout the show alone should be #1
Personally, I've never forgiven the writers for ending the show with Raj still single. All of the other guys (including Sheldon!) were married, and even Stuart had a steady girlfriend, but Raj was still single and unattached. I think the show would have really come full circle had Raj at least gotten engaged. P.S. I agree it was creepy for Howard and Raj to stalk the women from "America's Top Models", but it was funny! However, I think it would have been funnier if the episode had shown them getting some kind of comeuppance for it, such as a restraining order from the producer.
I hate how the girls go out of their way to constantly insult the boys' interests and hobbies. "Star wars and comics are stupid" it'd be fine if the boys did the same thing to them but they don't. Yeah I know Sheldon does but that's just Sheldon being Sheldon. NEWS FLASH chuck Lorre NOT ALL WOMEN HATE FANDOM!!
Yeah that was one of my biggest gripes on the show. Women including grown women can enjoy these kinds of things too. In my circle of friends, we are all women in our early 30s and we enjoy anime, video games, etc. One of my friends is really big on Star Wars. In fact that’s half of the theme of her wedding!
Not only that, there is no reason to believe that Amy and Bernie would not be completely down with Quidditch, or chess, or, hell, most of the "nerd" things. Chaucer manga exists, after all. And there is no reason to believe that Penny would not be fully into superhero movies, because she is an actress, and also, superhero movies have hot guys. The show misrepresenting women and geek/nerd culture was a huge misstep. Sincerely, a woman who has been into Star Wars heavily since 1977.
Sheldon, for how annoying he is, definitely has massively redeeming characteristics. Nonetheless.. He deserves everything he gets from the others throughout the shows run. lol I personally think that Will Wheaton lying to Sheldon to win the card contest was far worse than the French maid's outfit. The maid outfit was just pant wettingly funny.
Yeah, there are so many things that are so gross, offensive and poorly handled that you'd need several videos to get through it all. I can't believe it came out as recently as it did as it blows my mind how terribly dated and uncomfortable this show is. The main guys are such awful, toxic, entitled, sexist a-holes and the sexism, fatphobia and racism is unforgivable. Sheldon's treatment of Amy, including in the finale and last season, is appalling too and the fact that Penny's made to be pregnant at the end despite not wanting kids just because Leonard does, especially because of how she gets pregnant and because they already did it with Bernie, kinda sucks too. Penny deserved SO much better than how she was treated as she was continually shamed, insulted, harassed and demeaned by the guys.
This list only proves how much the main characters were insufferable JERKS. especially Sheldon!!!!!!! I don't know how the show managed to be so successful.
one thing that kinda bothers me now is how in that episode when penny says she might not want kids, pretty much all the characters are scandalised by it and shame her for not wanting kids. to me that sends the message that women can only have fulfillment by being a mother and that it somehow makes you less of a woman for not wanting kids. not to mention, penny consistently said how she wasnt happy in sales, only for the series to end with her still at that job and not to mention, pregnant after they spent almost a whole season on her not wanting kids. i think leonard and penny ending up together was detrimental to both of them and that they actually regressed as characters.
yeah tv shows normally have women not wanting kids and hating kids. So its pretty unusual to them have a character that dosnt want kids and there not supporting her. Normally when a women dosnt want kids its shown as being "empowered" and "enlightened"
@@johnsmith-gv9yw what do you mean normally? sure, its becoming more socially acceptable for women to not want kids but i cant think of too many female characters who were celebrated for not wanting kids. if anything, there are more female characters that have been ruined by the ‘happily ever after’ trope which often ruins their characters for the sake of marriage and children.
Sheldon does a LOT of mean stuff (Panty Piñata ring a Bell?! Leonard and the Red Sweater? The Jabs at Howard's Lack of intelligence due to not having a Doctorate?! His Condescending towards poor Amy?!) None of his moments are mentioned. What also grinds my gears is the personality changes of Stuart and Bernadette. Stuart was confident in himself and charming, Bernadette was sweet and nurturing: why change them?!
I don’t mind that Penny got pregnant; I just hate how their story ended. Penny being a sale rep, was a mistake, mistreating Leonard and blaming it all on him, and refusing to be a good wife to him are all problems that the last four seasons had. Another mistake was Amy; show would’ve been better off without her, and Sheldon shouldn’t have been given all the attention in the last four seasons. Every pregnancy on this show was an accident…and it just shows how lazy the writers are; two of them was due to rauch getting pregnant IRL. They should’ve written Bernadette off for a few episodes, she wouldn’t have been missed 😒.
3 summers ago I came across a video titled "The Adorkable Misogyny of The Big Bang Theory" really hitting home these same criticisms, ever since then I've felt ashamed to watch and even enjoy the show or laugh at any of it. I haven't watched it since out of shame, I even missed the finale just a few months later as a result.
You can absolutely love a thing, and question it. I highly recommend the "Adorkable Misogyny" vid and its follow-up for all sorts of ways to think about dynamics and representations. It can be rewarding to watch a show you grew up with or something you love, and recognize "Hey, if they just didn't keep the jokes about Bernadette turning into Howard's yelling Jewish mother after the actress died, it might not have felt so weird." Everything shows its age over time, and that's actually its value. TBBT shows us a whole shift in the zeitgeist of nerd culture and gender, even by nature of the fact that they often misrepresented it. That gives us more to talk about.
For the "sin closet" entry, I feel like they should've used THAT clip from "Carrie," especially since Amy's mom gives off some serious Margaret White vibes.
It is unfortunate that comedy now has to measure itself against what might offend someone. If that was the standard then nothing is funny. Were some jokes insensitive? Yes, but then again they were in the final analysis just that: jokes!! No way were they intended to be a standard for sensitivity. The bottom line is that if you don't like their jokes, then don't watch their show, no one is forcing you. In the meantime: GROW UP!!
The final scene between Leonard and his mother was so cringeworthy. Johnny Galecki was wildly overacting, and the whole thing was like one of those awful actor workshop things. Other unforgiveable scenes was the sexual harassment of Summer Glau on the train when she was travelling alone; Howard hiding a video camera in a Teddy bear he gave Penny was actually a felony; Leonard's hissy fits that stopped Penny having friends outside of his circle was part of his coercive controlling behaviour toward her; Leonard cutting ties with Penny and asking her to move away to please Priya - what woman would later marry someone who had treated her like that?: Sheldon torturing Leonard with that itchy jumper was just unnecessarily cruel - psychologically and physically.
Please stop reviewing older shows with today’s filters, this a great show and doesn’t need to be held by new PC filters, just enjoy the show for what it is
The most unforgivable thing about this show was the focus on the romances instead of the science and nerdy things. It started as the characters doing nerd and geek things. When the show focused on the romances and relationships, everything creative and unique about the show was gone.
Some good news about the way Leonard's mom treats Leonard: that would never happen in real life. When a psychologist wants to do an experiment, they'd have to run it through an ethics committee first, and her experiments are completely unethical and also improper. Improper because she only uses a sample size of one. They are unethical for several reasons: the lack of anominity about who the subject was, the cruel nature of these experiments and the negative impact they would have had on Leonard. Also, experimenting on young children is a massive no-no in psychology for obvious reasons. Plus, it's never really clear what she wanted to PROVE through this. The way its described makes it sound like she was just being cruel to her kid to see what would happen. And if she tried to do these experiments without an Ethics commitee's approval, then she would never be able to publish her findings. If she did it would be easy to find out that they were never approved, she would be kicked out from any Psychological societies she was a part of, have her reputation permantly tarnished and would be banned from practicing psychology ever again. All she would be allowed to do is teach. So take comfort that experiments as cruel as hers are SUPER illegal.

Definitely Sheldon making Leonard wear an itchy sweater just to teach him a lesson, or Howard trying to kiss Penny against her will.
Anything involving Leonard’s mom, she is cold-hearted and treats her family like science experiments. She should have never became a mother in the first place.
Leonard's mother's cruelty and indifference towards him. 🙁
i definitely can't stand Dr Beverley Hofstader. As a psychiatrist she should've known that a child needs actual love, and the fact that she is a clinical psychiatrist proves her hypocrisy (how can she help her patients restructure their relationships into something positive when she herself can't bond with her own son). I'm sure there are plenty of books/articles about motherhood that doesn't come off as using the child as an experiment.
....nothing. It's a show. Entertainment.
Ye, Stuart was proof that geeky men could have social skills and not creepy.
I absolutely HATED Stuart by the end of the show!
Lp
So you're saying he was done dirty?
exactly i loved him in the beginning especially the time he got Penny’s number so nonchalantly
Leonard forgiving his mother still makes me mad, because she never loved him nor cared for him. She constantly tells others how much her other children are successful and he’s a major disappointment.
It would have been a great character moment for Leonard if he had just told Beverly to get out of his life and cut all contact with her.
The French maid outfit was totally justifiable. Sheldon got a taste of his own. This idea he should get away with his behaviour is absurd
AGREED!
shoooo
if this majorityof list isnt bout Sheldon being .
unforgivable .. .

YESSS
Penny apologizing to Howard for calling him out on all the ways he harrased her will forever be the worst thing on tbbt
I agree, I hated that she apologized but he's never given her the respect.
The apology should have came from Howard.
She got a punch in though.
yeah
Sheldon was incredibly hurtful in the middle seasons just like Penny
I know right. I would have dropped him as a friend right then and there.
I agree. It made me so uncomfortable and I would have just put something cold on my vody to ease the pain after taking it off
As much as I hate to admit it, even I can think of some better, more harmless ways to get back at both of them.
I would've hit Sheldon in the face with a bag of frozen peas if he did that to me.
omg yes SAME!
I’m sorry, but I can’t help it when I start laughing every time I see Sheldon in the French maid costume, he looks so funny to me!
Ik right! It’s my favorite scene :}
I am surprised there isn't at least an honorable mention for how they treated Zack. Even after Penny criticized them for it, the show continued to make fun of Zack.
Apparently the struggles of people with lower intelligence are less important than the struggles of unhealthy fat-arses.
When does Leonard cheat & how does Bernadette find out?
He didn’t cheat in the conventional sense.
@@overdrive7349 How does he cheat?
@@davidz3879 he drunk-kissed a coworker on the northern sea expedition.
Yeah I think the same. Sheldon was feeling always superior to Howard and every one, I think is fair what Howard did.
Agreed. Sheldon is actually my favorite but at the same time I found the way he treated people, particularly Howard, despicable so I thought he deserved it. I did not feel bad for him at all!
No they were saying that he crossed the line by having Sheldon wear that because Howard already had him do embarrassing things.
Wow! So sorry. (Hugs)
Thank you. *hugs back*
The fact Sheldon isn't on the list is stupid. It validates all of his meanness. People make excuses for Sheldon like oh he doesn't understand what he does. He understands exactly what he does.its all thought out by him. He's mean, pompous and arrogant
*YES. thank you!*
somebody else said it

This is a Television show, NOT real life. Slow down and take a breath, and just enjoy the actors.
He had a condition. He wasn’t mean. To him he was only fair. Why people can’t understand that?
I couldn't agree more, while I loved the show but hated Sheldon, I thought he was very unlikeable and a condescending know it all
I wish Leonard’s mom actually acknowledged how poor of a mother she was, felt remorse and tried to genuinely be more nurturing.
I admit I sometimes imagine I'm that child
Yes. It bothered me sooo much.
Maybe she eventually thought that maybe it would be kinda nice to have kids.
The real penny would have definitely got an abortion. The show didn't even explore that option. They just ended up going with the sexist stereotype that the storyline of every woman has to end with a husband and kids.
@@sittinginacornerihaunt3764 yes.
0:45 I wouldn't exactly call that unforgivable, Raj does repent for his actions in the end.
If anything the whole episode is a lesson…
Also I’m a petty asshole and don’t feel ANY sympathy for Sheldon when Howard got his revenge.
Sheldon is unforgivable so many times. Generally a terrible person
One of the most rude and self serving characters in recent media
And this is how he treats his "friends"...
It's so stereotypical, isn't it? Also, never, ever, EVER get rid of a TARDIS!!!!!!! 🥰
@@alyzu4755 exactly! 💜
Or how Penny starts getting rid of things in Leonard's own room without telling him and replacing them with stuff she wants.
@@timelapse11 yes!! What made that worse was, in the first season she told him that the things he loved were what made him special.

I think what Howard does to Sheldon is great because he is always belittling Howards education and when he wants something expects him to just do it. I loved that episode because Sheldon finally got a little taste of his own medicine.
Howard and Sheldon are always rude to each other
How was Sheldon never beaten up for his transgressions towards his friends? I mean, Penny punched him once. But that was the extent of it.
To be fair, Leonard also slapped him pretty bad
@@AdmiralJaneway74656 that was in the series finale but that was to knock some sense into him because Sheldon couldn’t believe that him and Amy had won the Nobel Prize.
I think the things Sheldon has done can fill this entire list, and then some. Probably an unpopular opinion, but I really didn't like Sheldon. I fail to see how the self-proclaimed "smartest man in the world" never grasp the fact that he is selfish, condescending, and immature. How he treated Leonard and Amy is unforgivable. the worst thing is how all three girls constantly put the boys hobbies down as something stupid. The Tardis?
The one when Leonard forgive his mother really hit me a lot.
Definitely what they did to Stuarts character was unforgivable.
The show gets a lot of mileage out of undercutting the awfulness of the guys behavior by either emphasizing that they don't know it's wrong because they're socially awkward or painting them as harmless because they aren't typically masculine or confident or conventionally attractive, so there's no "threat" behind their behavior.
Comedy in general is going to be extinct if people don’t chill out.
mixed feelings about Leonard forgiving his mother. I like him choosing forgiveness as a way to let go of all the pent up emotions he has towards her instead of letting them fester further, but I can't help thinking it rings fairly hollow when Beverly is never once apologizes or owns up to what an awful parent she was and still is to him.
--
There's a part of me that really wishes that Leonard just snaps after learning the visit was a lie and just tells his mother to get out of his home and out of his life, unloading all of those emotions and finally calling her out as never caring about anyone but herself
yeea
It's a sitcom, don't take it seriously. Just have a good laugh.
Exactly
You're taking the show way too seriously.
The biggest offense was Wil Wheaton posting the video of Howard’s bachelor party. That’s a serious bro code violation.
Agreed
There were definitely a few moments in the show that rubbed me the wrong way.
The one that I'll mention here:
Bernadette trying to sell Howard's TARDIS out from under him.
Welcome to marriage.
@@donaldstone540 marriage? That sounds like hell.
Yeah, they made Bernadette obnoxious and mean in the end. By the end of the series they were all caricatures of themselves.
Far worse than that was that she went behind Howard’s back to find out what was in the letter from his father.
Some of these are just consequences to the characters actions.
If you treat people badly, why would you think you could count on different in return? It is an unreasonable expectation.
I almost snorted at Howard's "creepy, non-consensual charm " that's kind of perfectly put
Also, it should be mentioned about Bernadette's emotional and psychological abuse towards everyone.
so no mention of Howard's racism...got it.
if you could remember that model that opened the door is the same girl that took raj and howard's test to find sheldon a girlfriend
I love this show. I never thought of finding offense in what is being presented here. It's a sitcom. It is comedy and everyone watching it knows that. the one with beverly (leonard's mom), it's kinda have a different perspective for me, to me she loves leonard the most here's my reason why:
1. she wrote a book about leonard growing up
2. she is the same as sheldon but more mature, in one episode sheldon mention that having a talk with beverly but in the ends the topic of the conversation goes to leonard
3. in the episode that mentioned in the video, she was genuinely happy with spending time with her son even though her reasoning is to research and in the end of that episode she was crying when leonard lets his emotions out
4. leonard's sister got some archievement and i think raj or howard says she must be happy about it but she says its not
to me she is the female sheldon (even more than amy initially), she truly love leonard and wanted him to be the top of everything, that's why she seems uncaring of his archievement because she wanted for leonard to reach the top and not to be satisfied with his current archievement, i think because she knows that once leonard gets the love he deserves he would stop trying just like that episode where leonard and penny after they married got in a fight that penny thinks leonard is taking her for granted now that they're married, so that's my reason for beverly should not be in this list
The misogyny of this show was huge. All it did was perpetuate the belief that all men deserve women who are at least an 8 even if they are a 2.
No, the unforgivable thing is the premise of this video
What about Bernadette's transformation from the cute girlfriend of Howard to a manipulative shrew?
Yeah, she was way nicer in the beginning. But I believe that she changed because of Howard's character. Because he was living with his mother, became dependent on her and needed pampering in everything. And she is turning into a nice-looking version of his mother (even the voice sometimes familiar). And Howard also sees her flaws (like when she was hiding in children's house outside and in zero gravity experience) l. The fact that Penny is considered a victim in this list is baffling. She uses every single character in the show. Her treatment and manipulation of Leonard throughout the show alone should be #1
She is a victim

Nahhh she did love him
Personally, I've never forgiven the writers for ending the show with Raj still single.
I think they just wanna copy Joey Tribiani's character arc from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. considering that he remained single till the end of the series.
I hate how the girls go out of their way to constantly insult the boys' interests and hobbies. "Star wars and comics are stupid" it'd be fine if the boys did the same thing to them but they don't. Too bad they waited till season 11 to introduce Denise

He deserves everything he gets from the others throughout the shows run. lol

Penny deserved SO much better than how she was treated as she was continually shamed, insulted, harassed and demeaned by the guys.

one thing that kinda bothers me now is how in that episode when penny says she might not want kids, pretty much all the characters are scandalised by it and shame her for not wanting kids. to me that sends the message that women can only have fulfillment by being a mother and that it somehow makes you less of a woman for not wanting kids. not to mention, penny consistently said how she wasnt happy in sales, only for the series to end with her still at that job and not to mention, pregnant after they spent almost a whole season on her not wanting kids. i think leonard and penny ending up together was detrimental to both of them and that they actually regressed as characters.
yeah tv shows normally have women not wanting kids and hating kids.
Lighten up and stop being offended by everything
Most of these are bad, but a few of these aren't
Sheldon does a LOT of mean stuff (Panty Piñata ring a Bell?! Leonard and the Red Sweater? The Jabs at Howard's Lack of intelligence due to not having a Doctorate?! His Condescending towards poor Amy?!) None of his moments are mentioned. What also grinds my gears is the personality changes of Stuart and Bernadette. Stuart was confident in himself and charming, Bernadette was sweet and nurturing: why change them?!
Penny's mum wasn't even overweight, they didn't do a good job with that one.
Number 9 is warranted Sheldon treated Howard and everyone else like garbage for years and got a taste of his own medicine
I am the first view.. because it was posted 18 seconds ago I love Ms. Mojo
But it's OK to call them dorks. Gotta love the double standards of these bs videos.
Yes. I found that video too, it made me not like Big Bang Theory anymore. It's by Pop Culture Detective. He has lots of other great videos too.
@@JasmineKot I didn't find him great, I found him to be a bummer.
Leonard tells Sheldon we all have childhood issues and to basically get over it. Yet he couldn't over his issues with his mother.
Decent video Ms MOJO is a good channel
2 wrongs don't make a right, unless its maths
The problem with Sheldon's burn towards Penny is that it turns out that Penny's mom is Katey Sagal, a very lovely woman.
Shocking that no.1 wasn't 'The whole series'
Howard wasn’t wrong on having Sheldon wear that maid costume, as Sheldon chose to wear it. No force - just humiliation.
YEPP!!!!
