    Thanks for your instructions. I just bought the identical sharpener. I had no clue how to use it. I did brake the tip on the 2nd Prismacolor I tried. I think it was user error & now that I watched your video a 2nd time I've got the hang of it. What an awesome sharp point it gives. Seems a lot better than my T'GAAL, Prismacolor, Kum Masterpiece, Kum Long Point, Staedtler & Westcott sharpeners. As you can see I've been searching & have been disappointed w/all of them. Fingers crossed the Dahle 133 will be it. Thanks again.

      Yes, I've gone through a lot of sharpeners myself, and I still have this one. It works on all my pencils, including the big square ones from Felissimo! I love it.

    I absolutely love this sharpener. And something about it....so satisfying to hand crank your pencils!

      I agree. Mine broke, but it looks like they are back down to a reasonable price again!

    I realise you primarily cover coloured pencils, but have you tried graphite pencils in that sharpener and, if so, were you happy with the result? Thank you 😊

      Oh yeah. I use graphite to actually clean the sharpener and get the wax out and they do great!

    At 7:00 and after, you are providing information about the 155 version that is incorrect. You are stating that the 155 keeps sharpening after the pencil is sharpening. The only way that can happen is if you turn the point control knob all the way counter-clockwise. If you turn the knob clockwise enough it will stop at a sharp point, and if you turn it more the point will be blunt. The Dahle 155 is also a great sharpener. I have had one for over 20 years, but now am buying the newer version as it accepts large art pencils.

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  2 роки тому

      So I had a different experience and maybe a defective 155. But mine did not stop sharpening regardless of knob placement. But this review wasn't for that model so I didn't go too deep into that. Just an experience I had.

    I bought the 166 and it’s awful. It puts deep holes in my Caran D’ache Luminance. Does the clamp on your 133 put holes on the pencil casing? Also will the 133 fit a Caran Dache Luminance?

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah so I use the 133 - the other models are awful. I too have a 166 I gave to my kids. The 133 fits Lumis easy! It fits way fatter pencils too. I love it. The 133 doesn't leave any indents or anything on my pencils and I've been using it a bit now with Lightfast, Lumis, Felissimo, Prismas, Polys, etc. Even my Holbeins fit fine.

    Thank you for all the great info! I wanted to leave this message under your other video that covered several sharpeners, but the comments were turned off there. I have ordered this sharpener and a few of the others using your links - can't wait until they arrive so I can start using them! I really appreciate your honest and in-depth analyses.

      Awe thank you. I'm glad it helped. This Dahl 133 in this video ended up replacing most of what I use, but I still break out my T'gaal on pencils I want a shorter tip or don't want to use up too much.

      @@ColorfullyOptimistic I really appreciate the tips! I was going to try the sharpener in the link below (it was highly recommended in a video by a different UA-camr), but that one is listed on Amazon as 3-4 times as much (with the shipping charge) as the Dahl 133, so I'm very glad I found your video before I ordered. I will probably still try that other one at some point, but I'd rather try the Dahl first and compare later. Via your links, I did also order the 2-pack of the T'gaal, as well as the battery operated one you mentioned, plus a small, basic metal sharpener by Faber-Castell (similar to the ones you mentioned are sold at Hobby Lobby). I think those will all be an excellent start as I am an absolute beginner! :)
      The other sharpener I saw on UA-cam is called the Derwent Super Point Manual Helical Pencil Sharpener (2302001), and this is the link below (not an affiliate link - posting it because I think I remember you welcoming suggestions in the other video, so I thought you might want to check out this one):

      @@TCat13 Ah yes, I actually tried that one, but didn't like it :). Returned it. There's quite a few sharpeners I have tried, but I never liked the Derwent. Left marks on my pencils and chewed a few up. However, I could have had a bad experience, because there are colorists that use it too.

      @@ColorfullyOptimistic That is good to know - I'm glad I mentioned it! I think that if the Dahl works for me, I probably will just stick with it. No point in spending 3 to 4 times as much for something that may not serve me well...

    I have the profession and I sharpened one of my new prismacolor pencils TWICE and the pencil simnifically shrunk . Does the personal one do this?

    • @ColorfullyOptimistic
      @ColorfullyOptimistic  3 роки тому +1

      No. So the professional and personal are totally different. I had accidentally purchased the professional and it was awful. Broke pencils, chewed them up , etc. The personal one doesn't. Not sure what "professional" would use that other sharpener and why it is awful compared to personal, but they are very different for sure.

      It is actually part of their graphite line for drawing, but lays down like their colored pencils.
