It's sad to see in Sweden that the same people who sang happily about his death is now on TV being given a voice because they are the leaders of the far right party in Sweden. The Overton window is a global thing this channel is great at showing. Although Palme cut some deals that helped the austerity so from the left point of view he isn't a saint in any way.
Rest in peace Olof Palme! May the Social Democrats once again be lead by brave democratic socialists and let's do away with the neoliberalism of the 80s!
olof palme is probably the most underrated world leader in modern history..straight legend
You guy's are the first I've seen that speak to what i believe. Thankyou i hope the sense you speak spreads in all so called democracies.
Norwegian here - I still find the evidence inconclusive as to who killed him. But I definitely think you could be on the right track...
First US UA-cam channel that talks about Olof
RIP. M B
As a Swede, I consider Palme a mixed bag. He was great on foreign policy and human rights, but he was basically incompetent and uninterested in economic policy. He allowed his economic advisers, Kjell-Olof Feldt and Erik Åsbrink, to deregulate the financial markets (bank lending, in particular) in the November Revolution of 1985:
www.riksbank.se/en-gb/about-the-riksbank/history/historical-timeline/1900-1999/the-november-revolution/
This led directly to a speculation bubble and subsequent crash in the late 80s/early 90s, which was handled in a way used as a model for how the USA handled the 2008 recession:

This crash was in Sweden used as evidence that Keynesian economics just "didn't work" (while deregulation of banks was the true culprit) so a switch to neoliberal economics (even less bank regulation) was made and thus Sweden joined most of the rest of the western world in prioritizing low inflation while keeping employment down:

So while he was indubitably a "nice" person, he was not a dependable leader. Here's an outsider's take on the effects of his leadership:

Olof Palme has always reminded me of the New Zealand Labour Party leader and Prime Minister of the same era, Norman Kirk. Not only were both strident in their criticism of imperialism and the Apartheid state, but both seemed to have a similar idea of what democratic socialism meant to them. Kirk's encapsulation of the idea he best expressed when he said "All Kiwis want is someone to love, somewhere to live, somewhere to work, and something to hope for."
A nice little retrospective of him when he died in office: www.nzonscreen.com/title/inquiry---the-late-mr-norman-kirk/quotes
The press conference where they revealed the supposed murderer gave me the impression that they were just there to wrap it all up and blame it on someone posthumously.

Holy shit. This is masterful. Why am I amazed? The only thing I hate here is the push at the end, with the intentional "New York Jew" thing goin' on. "Why wouldn't'chu? Don't be foolish." I dont need the nookschlub yenta. I need Michael Brooks. If you're gonna do the yenta schtick, you have to do it in full "Grandma Yetta" drag. I mean, oy gay. You're makin' me verklempt ovah he-yah. And I'm way down in Knoxville, TN, just loving y'all to pieces. Bless yo'uns hearts!

Maybe now they'll release the movie about his assassination. I've wanted to see it for years. The Last Contract (Sista Kontractet 1998).

@@Sam_Guevenne Yes. It can't be streamed here in the US and the DVD is not for my region.
