  • This is a video on how I changed 2 strings on my eBay lyre harp. There will be a very slow tuning process so I don’t break too many more strings. Always tune your new instruments slowly and don’t be in a rush like me 🤦🏻‍♀️
Edit: it’s the next day and I came across this great video on changing reverie harp strings. Next time I change strings I’ll follow this technique because it looks better than what I was doing.

Very useful, thank you. It looks very si ilar to the way I used to change ukuluele strings but with the fine strings I used to thread it through the eye of the tuner and then take a half turn round the tu er and thread it through the eye again. This was necessary to stop the string slipping when you start to tighten them. With metal strings, this seems less necessary. You still might find it useful with very fin strngs or if you decide to trynylon or fluorocarbon strings.

Thanks for your comment. I’m having some trouble with the C6 strings especially so next time it breaks I’ll keep your idea in the back of my mind. I also came across this video and the technique looks better than what I was doing but I think I had the right idea. Changing the strings does take a bit of practice but is not too difficult. If it were me I’d like 3 to 4 wraps and lock the string in under the wraps , it looks like you don’t have much room to play with having not many wraps or strings locked under wraps , just my observation, i Imagine the thinnest string would be the last one or first one as it would be the highest note , like guitars or violins etc.

Yes I agree. Since making this video the B5 string hasn’t broken and is tuned ok but the C6 string broke again. I saw there weren’t enough loops and I was expecting both to break but so far the B5 is ok. I have some plans to try out on the C6 strings because they are proving to be problematic.

Hello, thank you for the video. I recently got my harp which is exactly the same model as yours, but I'm having a hard time with A5, I'm tunning it with an electronic tunner, but the tension is way too much to endure A5 and it just breaks at G#5, I'm trying to use the replacement but I'm sure it will break if I try it again. (which also might happen to B5 and C6). Question, do you have any tips not break them? And, do you think strings 1, 2 and 3 from an electric guitar can be good replacements for strings 1, 2 and 3 for your harp model?

Hi 👋🏻 I wrote an answer to one of your other comments so that will probably help more. In terms of how to stop strings breaking - tune very slowly eg be patient and give it a week or at least a few days and let the strings rest in between. I find that the strings in the replacement set are the wrong size for A5-C6 and I wrote an answer about sizes in your other comment. I don’t know if electric guitar strings will work. In my updated video I think they are ball end guitar strings mad of steel.
