Masdar City is the eco-city of the future, but is it really as successful as its master plan says it will be? With a $22 billion budget, the Mubadala Development Company really hopes so. With a goal of reducing carbon emissions, using renewable energy sources, and creating brand new clean-tech innovations that’ll change the world, the futuristic city definitely had a lot to accomplish. It aims to have at east 50,000 residents living there upon completion in 2030, but so far only 4,000 workers and 1,300 students call this desert city their home.
Masdar is developing a lot of cool technology, though. For one, they have awesome public transportation called the Personal Rapid Transit system that is made up of futuristic, electric and driverless pods that get people around the city underground. The city is also home to the world’s first university for artificial intelligence, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. There’s also a Tech Park where young innovators can collaborate, take courses and build prototypes together, as well as a mall called My City Center Masdar where residents can go for some retail therapy. As for accommodations, potential residents will love the city’s Eco-Villas, which cost about $200,000 and have their own solar panels. So, what would it be like to live in the world’s first eco-city, and is the project even going to be completed? Let’s have a look at Masdar City so far.

Abu Dhabi just flexing on everyone
yea
Yay bc its my city :)
You can't say that always, every country will flex in something, U know. USA - In Army
China - in producing goods🤣😂
Bla Bla
@@antosumesh true XD
@@hello.8951 I live in Dubai!
1 expensive mall-20 billion$
1 futuristic expensive city-22 billion$
Perfect sense!
I think the mall is too expensively built. Jewel Changi, a mall within an airport with the world's highest man made waterfall was built in the tune of $1.5 billion.. So go figurr
I was just watching one of “the richest” videos
Haha😑
Hahaha just finished it lol
Why does this remind me of the "city of light" from the 100? 😳
I was about to ask that too😊
@@sammiestyles5915 haha yeah, did you finish the series?
Doesn't city of light resemble the city in mirror's edge catalyst?
@@noo-dl Possibly, I haven't played the game. I'm referring to the city of light from the Netflix series "the 100"

Just came back from abudhabi yesterday and damn this country is rich and the people there are so rich
Yeah the 2nd highest income per capita in the world
Thank you so much for this amazing video 😍😍😍
this is exactly what you should be doing with your money, like the rich say, invest money to acquire wealth! why do you guys think that all the billionaires in the world invest in real estate, helping building cities and countries? It's because it's a lucrative business!
Yea, but growth cannot be forced. You cant start building massive complexes like this without the average income level to match. An already high poverty is on the rise in SA for this exact reason.
@@anontheshade 😁😂😂
Been there a couple times. The rich have everything you could desire. The poorest live in shacks and dirt homes with their livestock. 25 percent of the country lives well below the poverty line
Share the resources and empower humanity
Im privileged to be living in Abu Dhabi and get to see these projects everyday
Damn ur lucky
@Ok I used to live there, now I am abroad for college, hopefully, I'll get back.
I want to be a student/ engineer there!

If you got money you can
This is the right city project for middle east, structured in megablocks, they also needs to create a forest ring to surround this buildings and they will be transforming the desert!
Proud to be part of this great country✨
Not so proud when a construction worker is getting paid $250 per month and unlivable conditions.
@@abdulvahid93 they get paid much more, but since when can the government control the weather fam?
@@LOVTICON how is weather an excuse to not pay your workers
@@abdulvahid93 yea $250. Plus living expenses $500. Plus transportation $200. Plus food expenses $300. Plus medical care $2000. Or should we just let them die? What a bad deal man. Fucking ignorant piece of sh•t. Basically $250 of free money they can spend to the last penny. If we didn’t do it this way the workers would’ve sent the whole $2500+ and left themselves with $100 expecting to live on it. So better spend it in the country to make sure they are doing well rather than them forcing poverty just to send the extra cash to the families.
@@lego5837 they get paid + they don't work after 10 am in the summer
So go figure
Love you for new transportation

I nice concept, super rich royalty spending money on a worthwhile project!
Imagine the lives they could've saved with that money. Rich people are shameless.
@faaaduma you are shameless for these words, if you don't know about UAE leaders shut up and search.
Abudhabi is developing slow and steady......the vision for future is amazing.....
I have deep respect for UAE leaders. God lives in these guys. What they have done for their people is unparalleled. Can you guys advise our African leaders.
Because they have lots of oils that make them rich
ColdplaySwifties13 considering the fact that oil is now only 5% of the UAE’s GDP, I would say it isn’t “because they have lots of oil”
UAE may have excellent tourism and luxury lifestyle but still human rights needs to be in par with everyone else.

I would love to live there
I have been there to take a tour of this place last year and yeah unfortunately it has a LONG way to go still... it was truly like a ghost town unfortunately. There is very little to do there and very few places to eat at. It is a cool concept and I love the things they are doing to be better for the environment but unless you like to have the feeling of being secluded and are home bodies then you won't be excited about it. It has potential but it seemed like it was pretty much done there with not much new developments going on in that area.
It’s 10 years away from being finished
this makes me want to visit abu dhabi
Been there. Masdar is magical. Did not want to leave.
Visionary. I hope theyve learnt from the mistakes Dubai has made.
Dubai itself is learning from their mistakes, so they made the 2040 plan to make the city more walkable and eco friendly
Oh my Gowwwwd

Great Initiative
I went to these countrys in the 80s. All sand with a couple of buildings. The men of the ruling family are the politest charming noble men with hearts of gold. No body new these people when i used to hang out with them in their penthouse in chelsea. London. Food was always yummy. The ruler HRH Shiek Mahamid was always aloof mysterious silent a deep thinker. I have always reveard him.
Sheikh Zayed used to sit under a specific tree in the afternoon and people used to go and tell him about their needs and complaints, good bless him.
@@p020z5 I met him once. Eyes like a falcon.
What a amazing project. Dream video
I visited the USA and there are people living in trailer parks in Alabama that think they are in the most advanced place in the world. I sometimes tell them to just Google Dubia and look at the buildings. Most Americans do not realise that their country is actually dated and dirty with worn-out infrastructure.
All the money goes into the pockets of the 1% and the "American dream," is just that for most of them. Other nations and building futuristic infrastructure and brand new cities from scratch.
Well home is home to people, everyone thinks there home is the best and it is. At least people got a roof over there heads
Fascinating.
UAE beautiful 💞
Dzaam! Love this... In Kenya, we are building sth similar. Called Konza City. Not sure when it will be completed though... Corruption is still our greatest threat to sustainable growth and development...
I hope Kenya and other countries in Africa can get rid of their corrupt politicians and grow and develop their countries to the 21st century.
If we were able to control the weather. That place would be an ideal location lol.. it just Soo hot there
The city actually isn’t hot the buildings are built in a way that makes the city much cooler than the highway in front of it
So heaven like

One question though. These middle east have a lot of desert left and no shortage of space. Why don't they invest in infrastructure to turn most of the desert into Normal livable land. Because most of the project are often clustered or high rise looking like they're shortage of space.
They are doing it have massive farming peojects

The reason why they able to build such things like that is bcoz of centralization of power in only one hand every country has money to built the city like that but all of things happens bcoz of power
