Looks like fun and brings back happy childhood memories. Back in the 1930's, both grandparents, my mum, and her two sisters, took turns doing "tomboy". They spent evenings listening to the radio, and doing tomboy (remember, no televisions back then). The result was the same, but they used a wooden cotton reel with 4 nails in the top, and a safety pin to pull the wool over the nail. I know they spent a long, long, long time working on it. When they'd done enough, it went around their house 3 times. (Mum was very proud of that fact). Hand-stitching (again taking turns) kept them busy over the following weeks. Stitching round and round into a huge mat. It covered most of the lounge room floor when finished. They made this not only for fun, but to keep the house warm ! This would have taken patience, dedication and perseverance, but boy, what an achievement! To think the same length of cord could be made so quickly today, just blows my mind! BTW I don't know if the term "tomboy" is Australian, but that's what I've always called it.

This reminds me of what we called spool knitting, I’m talking several decades ago. OMG, that machine makes it so fast

I have ordered an icord machine and can’t wait to use it. Once you have your icord you could use it to finger crochet.

Just tried my i-cord machine finally. Worked great. I used DK so it's very thick for a cord for a sweater collar but I'm going to try a 2 or 1 and see how that looks. Pretty cool.

I am on my second I cord machine. It looked so easy when I watched your video. I have used very fine yarn, #4 weight, and #3 thread. And all I am getting is dropped stitches. I have watched your video 4 times. Is there any advice you can give us? 😛 Please

This looks pretty cool and easy to use! So grateful for your tutorials using these craft tools! I ordered a craft tool for making tassels that you did a video on, ordered it, and written instructions were not in English! So I was extremely thankful for your tutorial! What’s the diameter of the I-cord? I would like to see how it looks using it as a draw string or using the I-cord to make a hot pad! Thank you so much for this tutorial!! Your videos are always so helpful and easy to follow along with!

How about crocheting a twisted infinity scarf?

I had a much cheaper method of making what you call I-cord . We made them in scouts. We used a wooden spool and headless nails and a crochet hook. No crank. It took longer to do by hand, we made braided rugs. What pattern could you crochet to make a round or oval rig with I-cord?

I got an i cord maker. I’ve started over several time. Wanting to make a rug for my living room but having trouble. I get maybe 10 feet made and then I lose stitches on it or it skips stitches and I have to start over. I’m gonna get enough made. I am not gonna give up.

Hi Nikki, is there an icord machine that can use thicker yarn? I have a lot of worsted weight, size 4 yarn that I would like to use up.

I actually just used it for 2 different types of worsted yarns and it worked great! So I was wrong in the video! Just didn’t try enough yet😀 it worked! You can use this machine

It would be good to use the icord to crochet a net shopping bag as idea.

Do you know how to se the KNOOK hook and do you have a tutorial for one; WalMart sells them, there was a booklet but I could not understand the instructions I learn more by observation than reading

I'm sure it's meant to be used differently, but I imagine you could use it the same way as Tunisian crochet with a cord, especially if you used a nylon cord.
Anyway, I would also be interested seeing a tutorial.

I really want to use this but one machine that I have I think is trash. I’m doing everything you say to do but my yarn continues to wrap around the outside. I don’t know if it’s the yarn, the machine, or ME lol. I’m even tempted to purchase this particular one that you have hopes that it may work better for me.

What if I run out of yarn? How do I tie on the next ball of yarn, just in a knot?

Can I use Red Heart yarn with this I-cord knitter

    • @NickisHomemadeCrafts
      @NickisHomemadeCrafts  2 роки тому

Yes just depends on the thickness of the yarn. I was able to go until number 4 in weight

Looks a little looser than the way I make I-cord but making I-cord either crochet or knit is annoying. I'll pick one up.
