- Dj Tutorial. How to mix ,chop old school tunes
-----------------------------
most ols schoo, tunes will not have a steady bpm so quite offen its best to cut the next tune in and not mix it in. - Навчання та стиль
Spot on with working weddings etc... they say if you can survive these gigs you can DJ anything!
Many of you cussing this guy obviously can't mix to save ya sorry lives, it would be silly of him to just mix as that will not teach you anything, also not to burst many bubbles but our body, time and the universe has a rhythm so to be taught it very sad, being taught a instrument is different but being taught how to mix tracks you love is sad, many of us are here to see how good a dj tutorial actually pans out :) Listen to him, as long as you got rhythm and know some basic music beat timings then you will be a great Dj. I am a true great DJ and can mix any genres whit eachother and i say this uploader is talking big sense to me!!!
This guy knows what he's talking about, all about timing and having an ear for music.
I like when he first makes mistakes at least it makes him human. It's better to watch him recover.
Phenomenal ... I played those songs when they were NEW and on vinyl to boot! I was what can easily be considered an expert beat mixer and every digital DJ should take the time to watch this tutorial you nailed it. Great job!
Takes the subject seriously, but never takes himself seriously, its about the love and enjoyment, this guy is a master teacher LoL
I started mixing since my 13 years, now i have 21 and im learning so many things with you, a great great teacher, thanks for be original and honest, a teacher like the old school...
Okay so now I have to watch everything you've ever made. Awesome video, thank you so much.
Props for Incognito man. My dad showed me that group a year ago and damn is it smooth driving music.
I mix a lot of these types of tunes, and it's great to gain knowledge on how to effectively mix these challenging tunes. I also often use loop phrasing of vocal parts to guarantee precise timing and then fade in the other track. Can also work nicely. Thanks for the video!
yes ive been waiting for this one two as a mobile dj myself i tend to chop things around to thanks for the advice
It´s not only "practice and enjoy" it´s also "listen and learn " ....so helpful ,thanx!!!
You're such a great guy! Thank you for all of your videos, you've helped me a lot.
I could really recognize myself when you described a mobile DJ! Thanks for all the advice's and tips that can help me become a better DJ!
And Happy New Year! :D
Great vid! Glad to hear some Old School in a tutorial for a change, my favorite type of sets to spin, thanks Johnathan!
Thanks for the vid! I have been mobile dj'ing weddings this way for 20 years. Still learned a lot form your video.
I love this guy. He cracks just the most random crap in and its funny XD
'it's time for the bride' to show her knickers '. LOL!
That blend was beast, good sir! It was AWESOME! If I could give you two thumbs up, I would!
damn u been on youtube forever !! u the man
8 years later lol. Hey Jonathon hope you are well! I personally always mixed in the whole Whispers Intro and cut it at "it's a love thang" Back then everyone knew that tune's beginning and were waiting for the singer to get the jam started. Just me, we did what worked for us. Great vid as usual. Take care!
I love how you break it all down...thanks for making the vid!!!
AWESOME tutorial!!
haha i just enjoy watching your videos J, u allways natural brilliant and helpfull, practice n enjoy huh'! ;)
Great video couldn't stop laughing myself at the beginning with that wedding line. Good video some great tips.Very helpful stuff cheers man.
thank you so much Jonathan, watching your videos is both fun and really helpfull. Im really enjoying my practising with your advises :)
thank you john for the vids! a lot of the stuff you teach I know already, but the catch is that i never had anybody teach me or learned from anybody, i learned it all on my own. really helpful to have somebody explain it in a way that makes so much sense. if i tried teaching people how to do the things you teach, i would just be like, "just do it like this, it just works like that", and that's not very helpful to anybody lol.
I am not knocking against modern DJ's, they have a lot of talent, so please don'
t flame me. I just want to give credit to some of those old school DJ's.
Thank you for the great videos, please keep posting them.
its up to you i find start with my hand by letting it grab the mat also if your ever a little late your there to help it along
Great tips! And it's nice to see that even an experienced DJ might press the Cue button instead of Play :)
I come from 2019 and this is the weirdest comment section for any video on the whole of UA-cam. Welcome to history
if you go to 11:23 you will see and hear he nailed it i could not tell both tracks was playing. he did that perfactly.. you friend DJ Storm

Yep. I'll be trying to use these tecniques next new year's party, but with turntables.
This is a part of the old skool stuff I usually play
Another great video sir, thanks a bunch! Might I ask you what compilation of old school music you are using? I couldn't tell from the records but they looked kind of similar!
Thanks for all your vids man. Peace
Great info dude., you wee in my head on that 2nd mix. Thanks a whole lot, appreciate ya man.
I used to be one of these kids asking other people to show me "how to do X or Y" and all I have to say about where I've gotten in my experience is: 1) Learn for yourself about the mechanics of your tracks.
2) Study a bit of music theory. You don't have to delve into a Masters in MT, but a little bit can only help.
3) Make your gig your own! We are not complete carbon copies of other artists/ disc jockeys! Get CREATIVE!!!
Ellaskins, you're are a legend.
howzit emmanuel from S.A love your tutorial i even bought those delta speakers from your ather video...
Hilarious and I liked your spin on this.
13:03 I love that technique. I like to use it when im playing a dubstep tune with a great intro and build up but the drop is too heavy for the vibe of the room so i quickly switch to a hip hop or r&b tune. Thanks for the vid. Great track selection too. George Benson is too cool
Thanks buddy you are great!!!!!!
You are to DJaying what Karl Taylor is to Photography. The tutorial style and enthusiasm is incredibly similar! Good stuff.

You're funny. Thank's for the "unedited" version! Quite amusing.
The ADD is strong in this one.
awesome.
That was very useful
Nice tutorial! I agree that timing is important. Most of the time you can chop in on every 8th of 16th bar.
👍👍👍👍👍 awesome!
Great. I don't speak English well but I've understood :)
thanks for the tutorial
Thanks I appreciate the feedback!
Wow stumbled across this and am impressed! I'm a first-timer on some 1200s (w/serrato) and old school is my favorite but very difficult. Can someone please answer if it's best to cue the record by holding it while the platter is moving, or hit the start button a shade early while it's stopped? Thanks again great video!!
This man is a child hahaha, aside from that, he definitely knows his stuff keep it up!
real life up in here thats good
Can you put some techno beats between the songs before you play the next chop, and thanks heaps for taking the time to show people how to time
I like this video based on the fact that you're really helping people by playing down your skills. I know you can beatmix those three tracks so do you :)
Very informative lad.. subscribed..
The bride joke was funny, until you laughed at it too much :P haha good vid man
There's a genre called "nu disco/indie dance". You can use that to mix out of old school funk music into house or even just use house as a transition. House music came from the ashes of disco. Then you throw it into progressive house or maybe electro and just have fun with it.
