ella ella ella, you NEED to give yourself more credit! he is so unbelievably cool, but obviously not straightforward! you can do this, and sharing this has been so helpful! this is true training, and his jump is actually mega… little dream boy! you are honestly doing such an amazing job by him. be proud of yourself! xxx
I had a Welsh X TB when I was younger who was the same, you can only do so much about your riding when they are throwing you about or even just because you're used to them flying off...stop putting so much pressure on yourself and get those lessons and all it will do is confirm what you're doing with him is right. It will all come. He looked amazing at the end when trotting into them x
He’s got super potential! A nice strong calmer 🤣 and some training with a sympathetic trainer would get you going, and consistency with a horse like this is everything, whether he is excited or nervous the more you do it the less adrenaline raising it would be for him 🩷 even jumping a course but coming back to trot in between each fence cuts the power a bit and quietens the mind, but training is never pretty with a horse like this but crack on, your doing a fab job! Don’t over think it, the more you do the more natural it will become for you both and the smoother it will become 💕💕 I have a very hot tb and everyone told me to spend forever jumping small and it literally wound him up to a mess, every horse is different and when I just crack on with courses and a decent height the first rounds are always bat shit crazy but then it gets the flow going and the rhythm better and the ants out of their pants from being held back all the time, some just need different training and when they are keen and hot you almost want to keep them going and they start not shooting so much 💕💕
Also look into compression hoods I use a hidez compression hood and it really helps at the beginning of the season and I don’t need it after a while, really takes the edge off and helps them focus on you not external stuff 💕
That horse has tons of potential! It’ll be a matter of managing his brain. I’ve seen my trainer teach a student with a similar horse. She had them jump from a trot but from a turn only giving about two strides approach, then turn immediately after landing, then trot past, etc etc. The idea being is it isn’t you with the reins slowing the horse, but his need to keep himself in balance. Plus he doesn’t get a long approach to the jump to speed up. Also he needs to listen to you which way to turn.
Ohh sound super interesting and worth a try/play thank you! Ive been told to do something similar in the past with my young horse Charlie as he chucks his head up a few strides from a fence so the idea was to keep him turning so he couldn't run! Love it ❤️
I love his exuberance and I give you so much credit (and thanks!) for sharing a vulnerable truth...some horses are truly difficult. You're doing a great job. I'm not an expert, but I was wondering if you spend much time doing circles of all sizes and serpentines, basically a ton of change of directions bending him around your leg. I don't think I'd want to let him do a lot of straight aways until he could take my leg. So many good things here, but maybe don't let him get the chance to get out of control by continually moving him around laterally. He really is lovely. Again, thanks for sharing. It's so important for us to all remember that life with horses is not the way insta makes it feel!
Thank you so much for watching and for this lovely comment! I had a lesson on him yesterday and this was pretty much what we were sent home to work on! And also getting him to accept changes of bend even if it's the opposite bend to the way we're traveling to get his brain to engage and stop him from fixing his neck! ❤️
Whew. I can see the issues, obviously, and I have zero helpful suggestions, but WOW he is an absolutely gorgeous horse! What a mover. Also, you ride him beautifully - so kind and with so much sensitivity. I agree that probably you need some help with him, but he's so lucky to have you riding him!
Wow! He can jump! Stop talking about your riding, you are doing great! Hes not the easiest to ride, but your trying with him so much. I reckon you should get lessons on him he has the potential to do great hes a natural flyer and he loves it, you can see it. Don't give up on him, you both have something and you understand him, what happens if he ends up with someone who's not understanding. Good work Ella, would love to see more with him please 😊
Though it’s obviously coming from tension, his ability to sit and offer piaffe steps is fantastically athletic. If you could harness that power and relax it he would be stunning. Keep trying.
Thank you! I know, my dressage sister in law thinks he's very talented if I could just find the right keys for his locks!! I appreciate you watching ❤️
He's got stunning movement when he relax, you see a flash of what he is going to be and I think the fizzy ones are the best once you work through all this!
@@ellahorses-1992 probably easier for him and you if you'd had him from the start. But he's a fizzy head isn't he, bless him, I doubt that would change. I'm sure 18 months with you and he'll be something extra special! I will wait to see more from him, exciting GG!
Really interesting to watch the training of a difficult horse, thanks for sharing very relatable..keep going, Manny needs time and what an experience and knowledge Bank for you to be gaining.. all positive stuff.
Thank you, I'd have loved to but it was a shared lesson so not possible on this occasion sadly! Will hopefully have some 1:1s in future though and will hopefully film ❤️
I absolutely love him, he is SO cool. I also love this style of vlog (and the one you did with Charlie) so interesting to hear your thoughts, it’s giving me inspiration to try some of these exercises with mine 😊
Oh amazing! This makes me so happy as I feel the same when I watch others vlogs like these just wasn't sure if I was interesting enough 😅 he is super super cool! Thank you so much for watching and commenting such lovely things ❤️
You did amazing. He's definitely tricky and knows what he loves to do. Keep on keeping on. I can see what you mean about excited or anxious, seems to be a mix of both but he is gorgeous!! 😊
Love this - you need to cut yourself some slack though. The trotting in was soooo good and definitely what he needs - you were riding it really well and safe and educational riding isn't always pretty 👌 ❤
Thank you for coming to watch another Kitty! You're always so kind! Aaaand yes absolutely noted, I will try to stop picking holes in myself so much, I hate it when others do it to themselves so I should try to do it less too!! xx
Oh Ella that was awesome! From the way he started out to the way he finished for you was amazing! I agree that this horse has tremendous potential and you should keep him. I think he will actually make you a better rider than you already are! ❤❤😊😊🎉
He reminds me so much of my boy. Lesson and lesson rein. Yea ik it’s hard I struggle to I’ll have to message you some videos of my boy. But he’s in a rubber bevel bit so it’s soft with a curb chain I take and let go I “try” not to hold him. Look how he came back to after the jump at 21:58 where you slipped the reins. I think you have it in you for him. You just may need assistance in how to ride him. My guy thigh squeezing half hault are his best friend and lateral work to accept leg ❤ your doing amazing with him though he’s definitely not easy and exhausting to ride I know that feeling as well 😂
Thank you Megan! I actually love trot jumping so much as feels like way less room for error and so much easier to stay straight i just need to learn to ride the trot and not just go tense infront of the fence like I'm anticipating canter! Never tried a thigh squeeze half halt! I'll had it to the list of amazing advice I've been given in these comments! And definitely softer hands! Softer softer softer hands Ellaaaaa 😅❤️
He is SO much fun! He's a bit lean at the moment himself as he always gets in winter, but you should see him in the summer you'd feel differently about yourself riding him! ❤️
I do hope you don't sell him . If you have more time to work with him you'll be a mega jumping team. Also you are a good rider, stop putting yourself down... I was told many years ago to be a good affective rider it isn't always about looking pretty. Well done Ella 💪👍#keepdoingwhatyouaredoing 👏💜
Thank you so much. You're always so kind ❤️❤️ I am trying to have a bit more self belief as I think if you can give more confidence if you're confident in yourself but ohh it's so hard 😅 i appreciate you ❤️
He reminds me of one of mine except he is backward instead. Just my thoughts, what about tons of change of direction, laterals, etc instead of just the outside. Get his brain thinking instead of thinking RUN! 😊 Also, i know Justine Ward has done a video lesson for someone. Maybe good for you? I totally understand the frustration, but also the need for $$$ for more lessons! Keep going!
I'm new here so let me tell you. Anybody who would tell you your not able for him is blind. I've had a few Manny's in my lifetime. If I was you I'd forget about jumping out of canter until you can trot into a Caviletti/Fence with him completely relaxed. Then you can land and canter 3/4 strides to the next one. The other thing to try is a placing pole on both sides of a High Cross Pole or a Double XPole with a decent spread. Top of a standard wing with standard 12 foot poles does not go 90 cm but it makes the horse look and think. He has the scope to trot to 1m or 110
Sounds like great advice! It's very tempting to put the jumps up when they have so much scope, especially when they rush and you want to back them off a bit. I'm currently in the process of working with a young horse, trying to get a nice level rhythm just trotting and cantering over poles/tiny jumps without rushing. It takes a long time and a lot of patience but it's so rewarding when you get there :)
Thank you so much Lisa, this is so kind and I really appreciate the time you've taken to write all this out! I'll be sure to try it all!! I have actually had a lesson on him since I filmed this as he was fab ❤️
Clearly this horses happy place is jumping, and it does look like the jumping helps loosen his back up, I think you ride him very well,, looks like he's going to be a super show jumping mount for someone, will that someone be you?
Oh haha gosh maybe at this rate, I'll be so picky on where he goes as would only want him to go to someone better but wouldn't want them to see him as a quick buck to be made! Thank you so much for watching ❤️
Oh wow, the difference by the end was unbelievable, fab riding! You need to give yourself some more credit, hard to predict whether he's going to stay calm up to a fence or to get a little hot, so give yourself an easier time, you're doing a fab job. He's possibly one of these horses that needs to jump more regularly than others at home to keep jumping as "boring" as possible?
Ohh this might have just sparked an idea for my next vlog! A 'get to know us' vlog! I did do one as my very first vlog on here but I was so nervous that I could probably do it again now but better!
Manny remindes me of Lucy Robinsons Ember in the start..... Endless scoop and talent, but not so ridable...... 🙈🙈🙈 Ember is going very well now!!! But it's been a journey! 😅😅 Have you watched her Ember vlogs?? It might help?? 😅😅 I think Manny could turn into an awsome eventer!!! ❤❤ Don't ever say you cannot ride!!! Your balance is insane!!! ❤❤
Ohh you're so right! I have followed their whole journey and am obsessed with how well he/they're doing now! I'd love to know what Justine would think of Manny 😅
Some horses , especially thoroughbred types, when kept in a stable for long periods, through winter, with high energy haulage, high energy feed, that makes them extremely excitable. Change feed to low sugar, topline products, cut out molasses chaff, take everything back to basics, no sugar beet, add calming natural supplements. Lunge for 10 mins beforehand to expel any excitable behaviour, get him listening to you , transitions. I would also longrein him , with the stirrups constantly tapping his sides, where your legs would be, as your long reins are pulled through them. This will desensitize him. Far too talented a jumper, great cross country. Stop hunting. I find it makes them so excited and right now it's all about schooling, control, hand and leg aids. Lots of trotting poles, canter poles, flatwork for next 6 weeks. Only walk out on hacks, stop .start backing up. After 6 weeks of schooling, lunging, hacks, long reining suppleness ground training, no hand treats, maybe just some cubes in a bucket , instead of yr hand. By then the non heating feed will have kicked in. Then I would start jumping again. He is worth one last good try. He could take you far. ,
Thank you for watching, he lives out 24/7 he is on low starch/energy feed, all of mine are + he is on a herbal calmer, i do say at the beginning of this video I have stopped hunting, but he was push button to hunt and hack, not excitable strong or silly, it's all he's known, this excitement/anxiety comes in the school only. Thank you for taking the time to write out such a detailed comment.

Those that can do, those who can't troll. I've watched all your vlogs and you're doing a marvelous job with your horses. Please keep vloging 😊
Thank you so so much Denny! Your continued support hasn't gone unnoticed, I'm so grateful! xx

Even though I stood and fillmed all of this I loved re watching this, he’s so quirky but soo beautiful ❤
Thank you so much for filming! It was perfect ❤️❤️ and thank you for watching too xx
