Horus is RECORDED to be the first Primarch found by the Emperor since Chaos split them all up across the galaxy, but Alpharius's book claims that he was the first as he landed right in Terra, and was kept a secret until his brothers were all found (and Omegon pretended to be him when Horus "found" him)
So basically, Alpharius and Omegon, the Begining and the End, are simultaneously the first and last primarch found

@@heisnotlongbutthinnot exactly. Now, when any aeldar dies, Slannesh yoinks their soul almost immediately and devours it, and the only way the craftworld aeldar escape this is through spirit stones that act like a safety net, catching their soul before Slannesh does and keeping it safe. They can’t be reborn from the stone, but it’s better than letting Slannesh get it. Meanwhile the Drukhari Haemonculi covens can regrow your entire body should you die as long as you gave them a small biological piece of yourself to them beforehand, though this is more creating a copy of yourself and not quite rebirth

      @jakeg3733 9 місяців тому +6

You're right about their immortality, but it wasn't through the webway, it was via the warp. The webway is essentially a pocket dimension sectioned off from the warp eons ago, and it is fairly well insulated from the immaterium through unknown means (The Emperor was only able to create a crude facsimile of the original barrier for his section, and look how that turned out). That's why the Drukhari survived the fall, while Slaanesh can exert a pull on their souls it cannot directly get at them. Compare that to the fate of any Aeldari within 1000ly of the eye when it opened. They died instantly and had their souls sucked right out

    • @VelociraptorsOfSkyrim
      @VelociraptorsOfSkyrim 8 місяців тому +5

@@firmak2The Dark Eldar get away with it because they discovered a way to keep their souls attached to any body part as long as it is still alive.
It's not uncommon for Dark Eldar to leave behind a finger or toe with the Humonculus guys to regrow their body from it.
Craftworld Eldar are shit out of luck, without their Spirit Stones, or if the Spirit Stone is broken, when they die they go straight to Slaanesh.
How the Exodites managed to avoid Slaanesh is currently unknown.
And the Harliquins have their god, Ceggeroch to thank for that. He punked their souls from Slaanesh.

For an explanation on why the Emperor had to sit on the throne throughout the heresy.
His Webway project was more than just giving humanity a safer ftl travel, he was planning to move humanity into the webway. It would've rid humanity of their need of the warp completely and the Chaos Gods would starved to the point of redundancy. After he named Horus Warmaster, he left to go finish this project but he didn't tell any of the Primarchs about the Webway project, which caused Horus to get suspicious.
Horus was stabbed with a chaos infused dagger that gave him a vision of what the galaxy became. All he saw was the Primarchs all gone, and humanity being religious fanatics worshipping the Emperor as god. Horus saw this as a betrayal, thinking the Emperor would kill his sons and position himself as the god of humanity despite what he told the Primarchs of him wanting an atheist society of logic and reasoning. These visions were given by the Chaos Gods which started the well of madness that led Horus to become the Archtraitor.
As Horus was beginning his plans to bring down the Emperor, convincing some of his brothers and such, Magnus the Red, Primarch of the Thousand Suns Astartes Legion, found out about Horus becoming a traitor. During this time, there was a conflict between the Primarchs in which there was a policy brought about where Space Marines couldn't use Librarians/Psykers in their legions. Magnus was highly against this since the Thousand Suns had the highest ratio of Psykers and he himself had been surrounded by the Warp since he arrived on his planet of Prospero. He sought to use the Warp to contact the Emperor about Horus's betrayal, something that was banned for him to do but he ignored it seeing this as too crucial to travel the long distance to physically reach the Emperor on Terra.
The psychic backlash of his message shattered the Emperor's Webway project, causing a massive crack that opened directly to Chaos. The Emperor did all he could to try save the project, sending many of his Custodians to fight the infinite armies of daemons but it was useless. And so with a heavy heart, the Emperor gave the retreat order, forever ruining his plan to save humanity from the warp forever. This Webway project led directly to Terra, more so it led directly deep inside the Imperial Palace. The Emperor had to remain on the Golden Throne, a powerful artifact that boosts the psychic power of whoever sits in it in order to keep the gateway to the now corrupted Webway closed. If it were to open, Chaos would have a direct pathway into the Imperial Palace in Terra and all would be lost.
The Emperor is the only human that can utilise the Golden Throne and not be annihilated by its power. At least, he is now. It's been confirmed that Magnus could sit on the throne and not be destroyed, making his own fall into the traitors side all the more tragic since if he remained loyal and could take the Emperor's place, the Emperor could've helped in the heresy. In order for the Emperor to battle Horus and end the heresy, probably his closest friend Malcador took his place on the throne. Malcador was over six thousand years old and was the greatest human psyker behind Magnus and the Emperor, and by the time the Emperor had defeated Horus, Malcador's soul and body had been destroyed by the sheer psychic strain.
The Emperor still holds it closed to this day. The ever looming threat of Chaos directly under where he sits on his Golden Throne.

Ciaphus Cain is absolutely awesome. Sandy Mitchell is hilarious and brings the much needed comedy to balance out the tragedy in the 40k universe. On top of that they bring out the real horror in any faction the Imperium faces. The Gaunt's Ghosts are also fantastic and offer a great window into the 40k universe (and the crusade happening throughout the series is home to one of my favourite mysteries).
One thing I can say about the katest developments in the 40k Universe is that despite 40k literally coining the term "grim-dark", the heros and characters present could well lead to a light at the end of the tunnel.

First of course, much appreciation to Bricky and to you for adding another fun, perceptive layer to this!
Yeah, Luetin has some videos clearing up the sea of souls and warp, the origins of the Emperor, and the Horus Heresy. I say "clearing up" but with some of that, especially the life of big E, it's expanding on a compelling story or theory. The Emperor can be hard for even the primarchs to be sure how to perceive and interpret him sometimes (like when Guilliman was revived and returned to Terra).
Naturally the Horus Heresy books have expanded the lore a lot, and so, there were some big and small scraps of info in the decade or so before that series. They even changed some details about the final battle that Bricky described, which of course he couldn't have known! Bricky also hints at another twist of the order the primarchs were found in.
Aside from ideally being good reading, the Heresy novels had to answer at least some big questions from the bits of previous lore. Why didn't big E just make more primarchs? Where was the Emperor, or why was he stuck on Terra when he could've kicked any primarch's arse (at least before chaos buffs)? Well the next paragraph is only a bit more specific than what Bricky said, and so, only slightly spoiler-y if at all!
Well, Magnus tried to warn dad that Horus was being corrupted by chaos. The warning cracked open the secret webway project that Magnus and most other primarchs were unaware of. Forces of chaos, loads of daemons, flooded in. The Emperor helped his golden gang fight them off, but he mostly had to use the throne to keep the chaos in his webway from spilling into the throne room, Imperial palace and Terra by extension.
I hope that helps! I know I go on about Arbitor Ian lol, but he has a lore video on the Horus Heresy, and he's got one on the creative history of it too, like a Making Of documentary haha! They're around 40 minutes so no worries if it's too much for stream or you've seen them or wanna save things for when you read! :)

I think it's probably the most "fun" grim dark story I've read and while I haven't read his other suggestions I think I'd still put the Dark Imperium trilogy above a lot of the other books I've read, they were what really solidified my love of Warhammer 40k.

Thinking of the warp as an ocean is very astute considering her limited insight. Very very much like an ocean. It self isn't inhrerintly evil it just just a body of energy. It's what resides in the warp which is dangerous. Much like the ocean you can swim sail for days safe. But there's shark infested waters all around.

The Latin word "terra" means soil or earth and originates from the Proto-Indo-European root ters-, meaning "to dry." This term was directly adopted into various Romance languages, such as Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and French, with little to no change. In English, the word used is "earth," which comes from the Germanic root "eorþe," sharing the same concept of soil. The transition from Latin to the Romance languages happened during the Middle Ages, reflecting the cultural and linguistic continuity of Latin.
I researched some things, but because it is my mother language and this "Terra" is in my native language I researched it, I also know that my line comes from Latin so it was easy.

The Emperor being put on the golden throne is for multiple purposes, for one, its a powerful life support device that could stave off his death from the wounds he suffered fighting Horus, secondly, Magnus' mistake that destroyed the Emperor's web way project created a rift to the warp that, should the throne be turned off, would consume Terra, and third, so long as the throne is active, Warp Travel is easier thanks to the psychic beacon it emits acting as a lighthouse when in the warp

    1) Emperor is the most powerful psyker in the galaxy bar none. Not just mankind.
    2) She who thirst is a she not also a male.
    3) Emperor known as Neoth but thats not his true name.
    4) Salamanders ain't black they have charcoal ashy skin. So they don't have jamaican accent :)
5)Great crusade was an excuse to look for his sons. Because they are too valuable to discard on a whim.
6)Magnus the Red Aka faultless giant was a loyalist until his mistake tho it should be cleared that dude had very good intentions. Even tried to save horus when he was in the warp from chaos tricks.
    7) Emperor is a perpetual top one at that. What golden throne does basically keeping him from regenarating. So hes at this weird constant dying and regenation cycle. In fact hes very much alive and much more powerful at this point. Thx to steady diet of psykers and trillions of worship. On recent lore he's awakening slowly as a god. Like another Chaos god like being but for the order.

The Leagues of Votann in a nutshell:
They were genetically-engineered humans made to be stronger, durable, and with heightened senses during the Dark Age of Technology. Because the areas that the "Kin" (as they call themselves) reside in are near-impossible to access by other races, they were mostly lost and forgotten to time. Because of this, the Votann were spared from all of the major events that happened in 40k. A pocket empire did arise calling themselves the "Squat Empire," but were slaughtered and devoured by a Tyranid splinter fleet.
The Kin have access to fully functional Standard Template Constructs (or STC) that were created during the Dark Age of Technology, which are capable of automatically mining, building cities and even terraforming a planet. Kin center these STCs around their culture, calling them their "Ancestor Cores." The STCs were ALSO lost and forgotten to time. The Leagues live in relative isolation, hiding their civilization from the rest of the galaxy, usually seen every so often and are usually ignored. The Votann ESPECIALLY hide their tech from groups like Adeptus Mechanicus, who would stage a large-scale crusade if they ever discovered that the Votann have fully functional STCs. The Leagues are also hidden from the forces of Chaos, because their souls are very dim (much like the Tau).
The downside of the Leagues, is that their Ancestor Cores are starting to degrade over the past 10,000 years, which is slowly affecting the Kin, which causes them to take initiative to set out into the galaxy. They have trading agreements with both the Eldar and the Tau (but keep the better supplies to themselves) and have an uneasy peace treaty with the Imperium.

29:46 Bricky threw a bone here.
For context: "Officially" the first Primarch that Big E found was Horus, but there is a wacky theory that says that the one that he found first, on Terra, was Omegon of the Alpha Legion. Alpharius, his twin brother, was the one that got yeeted to space. For whatever reason the existence of Omegon was kept in secret by The Emperor and his right hand, Malcador.
Alpharius was found later by Horus and developed and strong bond with his primarch brother. When the Horus Heresy begun Alpharius was one of the first to join his cause. Later he was killed by Rogal Dorn in the Battle of Pluto. Seizing the opportunity and because of his loyalty to The Emperor, Omegon took the identity of his brother and became Alpharius, Primarch of the Alpha Legion. Since then his Chapter has been sabotaging the traitor cause from inside.
This is why he wrote: "I am Alpharius. This is a lie".
Of course, this is a theory. Anything related to the Alpha Legion is just conspiracies and speculations.

I agree that Horus Rising is a great book, i just would not reccomend it to a beginner.
Yes, it's THE prequel, and relatively light on lore, because it's set "before" the current lore.
It's space marines versus enemies you'll never hear of again.
It sets up a huge story, with tons of intrigue, great characters and huge stakes.... but it takes 70 books to really pay off (over 25 days non-stop listening).
I highly recommend the entire series, IF you know 40k and are really interested in the horus heresy.
When i started 40k, the Horus Heresy was a rumour, only partly recorded in art books and cardgames.
Part of the fun is slowly building out the legend and filling in all the gaps and theories.
Definitely read it.... just not yet.

Also a problem with Warhammer lore is that there are SO many cool to learn about. You can bounce around the universe learning about things. Choose something you're interested in, and go piece by piece. However for basic timeline. You learn how the emperor makes his kids + with who. How he loses them, how he finds them. then eventually the horis heresey. Because that is how the emperor ends up on the golden throne for good ( some may say....) (Maybe the emperor is transending into a the 5th chaos god) Who knows.

The Eldar gods had a little fight with each other, one of them named Illith told Kaine she had a bad dream that his followers would shatter him(hehehe foreshadowing what happens to him later). So naturally Kaine being the Eldar god of war decided to do the logical thing and tried to kill everyone causing a war between the Eldar and Khaine. There is more to it than that, and there's a part where Khaine starts a war over a sword shortly after that, because of course he does. 😂😂

I've read somewhere the Emperor started as a common human being "with some psycher powers" (maybe one of the first psychers) and evolved. He got to the point of borning again after dying, then started to "guide humanity, appearing as a prophet, or a great scientist, general or engineer, throught the times, but "anonimously" because he didn't wanted to be revered as a diety".
So.. The irony is: he almost gets killed, is treated like a god AND humanity sacrifices 1000 souls/day to keep him "alive" while not knowing he'd be born again right after.

  • @BraveSpy
    @BraveSpy 9 місяців тому +5

I think there was a piece of lore that in like 8000 bc a bunch of powerful shamans were afraid of the warp and decided to commit a ritual suicide and merge their souls into one being. And that was The Emperor's birth. He was keeping low profile and showed himself only in Mad Max era. But all of that is an old lore, so it's really unclear if that's still canon.
p.s. I think Eisenhorn books is probably the best choice for first warhammer reading, definitely not Horus rising because well Horus Heresy is a historic event inside the setting. It's like reading about some historic events in Harry Potter's world before the Harry Potter books.

    1. The history of the Emperor is deliberately mysterious. We know very little for sure about his life. It's believed that he was born around 8000 BC in Anatolia, modern day Turkey. An old story suggested that he was created by thousands of early psykers called Shamen committing mass suicide and combining their souls to create a super-being. We don't know his 'real' name. The mystery is absolutely deliberate, and will probably never be fully addressed.
    2. I strongly recommend the Ciaphas Cain novels as your next foray after Eisenhorn. They follow a highly atypical Commissar in the Imperial Guard, and give a very human perspective on the universe, and the audiobooks are _excellent._

You should check out some 40k audio dramas. Vox in the Void and Warrior Tier both make top tier 40k YT content

I think you’d love the Vox in the Void’s “Gav and Bob” series.
