M:tG Precon Decon - Assassin's Creed Starter Kit Review

- Normally I do nostalgic rambling videos about preconstructed theme decks from Magic: the Gathering's history, but in this video, I do a rambling video about the brand new Assassin's Creed Starter Kit! #mtg #MagictheGathering #casualMtG #UniversesBeyond

What changes would you make to these decks? For the Ancient Arsenal deck I would personally replace the 3 Detained by Legionnaires and one land and add in 2 Hidden Blade and 2 Hidden Footblade for more combat-trick style Equipment.
Also, which is your favourite Assassin's Creed game? I've only played the first two but I remember having a great time with AC2 (apart from collecting those f*cking feathers, obviously)
I played the first two, Origins and Syndicate. I think I liked Syndicate the best I enjoyed the two different characters and the different play styles.
Any swaps for the other deck?
@@MiguelAndres5 Probably replace the Brotherhood Spy (as you only have two legendary Assassins to proc its ability) and the Brotherhood Patriarch (as it's not amazing) for more of the freerunning spells like Chain Assassination, Eagle Vision, and Restart Sequence.
I love these little starters, special shout out to the flavour text on brotherhood patriarch!
Honestly these starter kits have the same feel as the old planeswalker decks, at least in construction.
They even have buddy cards for their face mythics!

@@beatsandskies it may not be bad depends on power level of "face" mythic. though "buddy cards" are not much useful for commander... (AC starter seems able to be able as a fun commander pity 1 of card from each deck is "wasted"
@ChunKeungSuen the buddy cards were always the worst cards. So many great Planeswalker decks curled up and died because of those damned things.
I've got these on order with the Bloomburrow starter kit, so I have to wait for them to ship together.
Pretty cool that Universes Beyond has actually resulted in an increase in the amount of 60 card precons getting released. I imagine they'll do them for the Marvel sets too
yeah a Starter Kit like this seems like a shoe-in for the Marvel set. Avengers vs. Hydra, perhaps?
might be the only product i pickup from the set just to get some of the cool cards for only $20 and wait for the booster boxes to drop in price cuz i'm not buying into the bs of this release
This is awesome! I love it for the price. This will probably the only thing I will buy from this set and then wait for the booster packs to be on sale.
As an entrenched Commander player, I'm picking this up for the cards that are exclusive to this starter kit. Would've been nice if WotC included a booster pack or two like they used to do with the planeswalker decks of old.

I like that there's a bit more consistency in the decks with not as many single cards, that's somethign that always annoyed me in some of the precons was the amount of singletons in each deck. I like the decks but I'm not super into Assassin's Credd so I'm not sure ifI'd bother pickign this up unless I was a giant fan,
I think and this may be SPOILERS for Assassin's Creed Odyssey below.
I think the Minotaur storyline turned out top be justa big guy that had a bull's head helmet but it's been a while since I watched a Let's Play for Odyssey so I could be misremembering.
Agreed re: the consistency, I think it's just the right mix here to also allow for some variety/replayability.
The basic lands are cropped versions of the full art ones, and are on Scryfall now. Only one of each type, rather than both, weirdly.
A touch of Historic for both the flavour and because it fits nicely with the equipment and Legendary creatures in the deck was such a great decision. My favourite aspect of the two decks I think. Appreciate well thought out subtle things like this.
Needed another Headsplitter, or even another "For Mirrodin!" type equipment in place of one of the other creatures. But ultimately I think even with only the 6 of them in the deck Red White is definitely the pick of the two decks, and would also be the easiest to improve with only a few simple changes. It has more focus, and the Blue Black deck relies too heavily on its rares.
A really good candidate for buying two copies of, for sure. I don't think I'll be doing that, but we'll see how well it plays I guess. I might be tempted to try and brew up a third deck in a similar mould using some of the Green cards: Cleopatra looks fun.
Maybe buying the kit and make it 40c decks instead of 60c will help for gameplay consistency?
While this is a bit late the minotaur is from assassin creed odyssey. Where it is implied that the different mythological monsters you face are humans mutated by Pieces of Eden.

Im tempted to pick up a single copy to at least have the unique stuff for potential future Commander decks as Dimir Assassin sounds fun but also Boros Equipment has had like 3 or 4 precons for Commander already so there are pleanty of ways to upgrade that specifically 😂
Or if i fond cheap enough, buying a pair to do minimal upgrades seems like a fun way of having spare decks that aren't too out of balance to play with friends who otherwise might not play or wanna try playing one of these vs an actually constructed deck

It’s starting to seem that the Commander decks are getting a bit formulaic recently, especially now there are four with every set.There was a bit of “oh, another Simic Ramp deck?” In my LGS’s group chat after one of the latest spoiler seasons.
"It's cheap", whereas where I live it costs 1/5 of the minimum wage 😢

My biggest question can I combine both an make a commander deck out of it?????
Not using just the contents of the box I'm afraid.
1) You would need a commander with a WUBR colour identity to use all the cards. Ezio Auditore da Firenze is the only viable choice (and that point you might as well throw in some green cards and green mana to use his ability).
2) There are only 38 unique cards, so unless you want to have 62 lands you'll need more cards.
That's not to say this box isn't a good starting point for a Commander deck though! You could also use the contents to build a deck for a different singleton format that uses a smaller decks like Brawl or my own format Bash.
