    @22:30 I hesitate to second-guess a master of his craft, but (unless I've lost my mind) if you use the Return Cores tab instead of Cede Provinces (or clicking map) in the Peace Deal, the cost should be the same for all subjects regardless of which was selected as war goal. Update: just tested and confirmed. Released Gascony, used console to give myself two provinces to release Champagne and Toulouse. Declared for Reconquest of Montpelier. Returning the core of any country (not just subject - I consoled France a Burgundian province to double-check) with Return Cores tab counts as war goal. Additionally, it turns out that recovering the cores of all three subjects can be done in a single war (I had even neglected to rival France) for 23 AE. Keep up the good work. I'm just glad to be able to pay a fraction back for the thousands of other pieces of invaluable game knowledge I owe to you.

    • @Dezerzh

      The only downside of this is you don't get power projection. But this is also the only way to benefit from any bonuses to Province Warscore Cost (like from Diplo Ideas) while using Reconquest CB, so it's very important to know and use.

    • @LordBeegers
      @LordBeegers 2 роки тому +3

      @@Dezerzh Good spot. I guess I tend to overlook PP since reconquest wars like this (Ottomans for Byz/Bulgaria for example) are so devastating otherwise the outcome is more than satisfactory. But thanks for the very helpful reminder. EDIT: There's a second gem I owe you for. 3000 hours and didn't know specifically that Province Warscore Cost reduction only applies to CB (currently scouring wiki) - is that an accurate assesment?

    i wouldn't necessarily say experienced players dont need guides.
    it's always nice to see from another person's perspective. + in my case, a player who mostly does his thing in europe and asia, i have no clue what to do in india, africa or middle east... so seeing what are the easy to meta starting moves in those areas give me a push in the right direction. after that it mostly what RNG decides to throw.
    Like...i had this holland run and managed to get the same dynasty as england. i... didnt form Netherlands anymore until i got the PU. cuz apparently becoming Netherlands changes your leader and dynasty xD

    Some fun min-maxing, before releasing Gascony, you can give out a monopoly on wine, get some free money and mercantilism, and then when you have no more wine production, it be instantly revoked.
    Also worth noting, you dont need to take the Levy the Troops mission as soon as it is complete if you think that you may not have time to go for the PU over them in time. You can just take it right before you are ready to attack.

    • @shorewall

      The way I did it in the past, was wait until I get the notification for the Surrender of Maine. Then I exploit dev and hire mercs to fulfil the mission, and take it right before I select to start the War with France. The reason I try to get it before the War with France is my manpower get destroyed by the war, and I don't want to wait for it to recover. Doing it this way gives me 20 years to beat France, and then go for the PU on Scotland, which is more than enough.

    You don't get regular AE for the reconquest of other cores if you "Return Core" in the peace deal instead of "Cede Province". It won't give you power projection, but will be part of the war goal and thus have reduced AE and no Unjustified Demands (diplo cost). This is very important to know when fighting France or the Ottomans.

My game went a little easier: War of the Roses didn't fire (got 2 heirs) and France started off rivaling Castille and Austria so I had no problem getting those two (and Portugal) to beat up France for me. Burgundy remained independent and I pretty much refused to get dragged into Austria's endless wars. I did like the Quality/Trade opening you suggested - it worked out better than the usual Exploration/Expansion opening I went with in the past. I'd love if you could do a non-European guide next, maybe something like the Mamluks or even the Aztecs?

I just did a test numbers are 3/3/3 vs. 3/5/3 I took the later one, the rebels wanted a 2/5/3. In a previous run where I found this accidentaly I got a 6/5/5 after they killed half of my country during the maine war. So I got there the L with bankruptcy and a really good ruler.

    I believe that if you want to go exploration and expansion first then taking the PU over France may very well be the optimal strategy, but otherwise I think this is the better way. The AE from taking the PU is manageable with good allies which are typically Austria and Castile. Also France's loyalty can be fixed fairly easily before the truce wraps up. You still get to take over all of Ireland and Scotland, and then while you're waiting on the AE to cool off you play the colonial game.

    im glad this is the optimal run for beginners, it makes no sense for england to be able to hold a pu on france that early in history without 2 or 3 additional wars. IMO that pu peace offering sucks. Yes england is hard at the start, but the point of england is to expand outside of europe before dominating europe. they become broken when your only local threat is spain and the hre, france needs to exist in some form still, whether they eat burgundy after you win or burgundy eats them, that 3rd major rival makes it way less broken, and more accurate to how history actually played out. (my suggestion for balance would be to scrap the event restoration of union PU, and put it on the mission tree after owning some gascon and one or two northern cores. THEN it makes sense to claim the french throne.)

    Okay actually it does matter a great deal where you give a seat in parliament too. If you're not careful you're going to end up with a "Rotten Borough" event when a low-dev province has a seat. That will either force you to move to another province or get a bunch of corruption.
    Also, if you are going to release a vassal, you should take manpower dev from the provinces in that vassal before taking away dev from your own provinces on the English mainland.

    I have a major problem about this video, just like any other england guide, they just kinda skip the first french war. 3 second later EVERYONE occupied the whole country. NO i wanna see every frame of the war, because no matter how strong you are and your allies, every time, when i attack france i pray to the gods, for good rolls in both siege and battle.
    Otherwise... It is a nice guide.

    I called in Austria, Portugal, Aragon, and Castille against France, and got smacked. My allies just defended their own territory and occasionally tried to help. Very frustrating

    I prefer to PU France, as you can use them to quickly conquer Iberia before 1500. You will get a big coalition but during truces improving relations will keep it controlled and if you ally Austria or get Aragon as an ally or PU, it will never fire unless you start targeting Ireland.

    Is there any good tutorials on how to win wars?
    I swear to bob that no matter what nation I play or allies I have, I can't win a war with a major power. I just tried this strat, and had Castile/Aragon, Portugal, Austria/Hungary, and Burgundy all on my side. France had Britany...and they won. We had over three times the troops of France, and still lost.
    In another play through, I was the Mamluks. I was able to get Austria as an ally very early. We lost every war against the Ottomans. The biggest war we lost was in the 1750's. It was Spain (who owned all of Iberia and the New World), Austria (who had the HRE vassal swarm reform), the Commonwealth, Russia, and myself vs just the Ottomans. The only reason I made it to the end of that playthrough was thanks to Ming. They had turned both the Timurids and Japan into marches, never blew up, and kept beating up the Ottomans.
    Every time I try playing with a New World start, I can never get past the 1530's. Every colonizing nation sees me and declares conquest. My last time trying there (the run right before my England retry), I quit because at 1499 I was in three different wars with Portugal/Castile/Aragon, England, and France.

    Even if you're a good player PU strategy is much worse since you'll have no manpower after the war and you'll have a coalition formed against you for sure. It's just better to take money and cores of Gascony then killing your rebels then going for Scotland to shorten the truce with France and taking another province to release Toulouse

    29:00 Why build workshops in high value trade good provinces? Workshops only affect production efficiency.

    • @truegamer_007
      @truegamer_007 2 роки тому

      @Ferbujosbe Yes, but why rely on trade goods when you can see exactly how much money the workshop will make you in the macrobuilder?

    • @truegamer_007
      @truegamer_007 2 роки тому

      @Ferbujosbe But you can just build the workshop in the future, when you'd actually start making money.

    I got a perfect PU off on France.. Brittany, burgundy, Castile, and Portugal, all allied me from the start date and I stayed on Cornwall with my troops while all my friends fought for me. By the time the war was over I enforced Union with France while I myself had max manpower completing the mission giving me claims on all of Britain. In the middle of the France war I got the French cultured queen event which turned off the war of the roses event. After leaving the war the entire HRE is in a coalition against me but now that I own France Scotland and Ireland are free to conquer. By the time I finish off Great Britain the coalition has dissolved and I’m strong enough to keep France as my junior

    in my nearly 2000 hours I've not played england ever, for some reason I've shied away of all the major powers.
    (haven't played the ottomans, castille, france, muscovy, portugal ming vijay or bahmanis)
    I'm not even trying to be elitist here, for some reason my brain just goes: nah let's instead play the nations that quite easily become a major power
    (love playing tuscany, savoy, holland, popeman)
