17:50 Ducal Prussia is a special vassal for Poland, iirc you can get it if you pick certain event choices as you go through their mission tree. The reason they’re a republic is because Danzig is quite literally converted into Ducal Prussia, and then a land swap happens between Poland and Ducal Prussia.
Sweden is how I learned army mechanics in eu4. Googled what they all meant and then tried to do a space marine run. One of the funnest games I ever had, stomping virtually the entire HRE at once so I could dismantle it
Norse event has low chance to fire and there are different outcomes (there is chance to find Norse settlement or not find them and they should not become catholic). According to a comment I read on r/eu4, the event always generated with same seed because it is generated from mission, so it is not random. Even though game says some percentages it is always negative. Game will always say no settlements found.
Sometimes I think about when we had to manually assign the various provinces to the estates, or had to manually embargo every rival or the game yelled at you... Somehow this makes me feel old.
12:04 after annexing novgorod you should release them as a vassal. you will have no rebels and can use them to fight a reconquest war against moscovy. In the player's hands those lands are pretty useless in the short term (different religion, culture, high autonomy).
I dont like his peace deals in general. Like why dont you just full annex livonian order? Or he tooks %93 worth land and just peaces out. Just use the remaining score for a couple ducats bro
Thank you for this video! I've been anticipating it since the update. I have about 288 hours of eu4 but i'm still a noob so these videos are great for pointing out details and tips for starting a new campaign, especially in unfamiliar regions
In my Sweden game by 1550 I have the BI, Scotland as vassal (fed them back their cores), all of the Baltic coastline, most of Poland, Muscovy and Kazan, CNs in NA and working on Africa now. I went Innovative -> Quality -> Espionage in my run, I think I'll take Offensive next. It's not optimal for playing wide due to lack of diplo/admin etc but far out do you cut through any army like a hot knife through butter.
People who think Innovative is weak don't know what they're talking about. Innovative is the strongest first or second idea group in the game. The policies are good, it has tons of ideas that save you a boat load of monarch points in the game, letting it basically pay itself off over the course of the game; it even has a few minor "under the hood buffs" for your military that go forgotten. If you're playing single player, Innovative > Offensive is the strongest 1-2 for a world domination campaign, save a few exceptions.
@@xxHazzardousxx yes but it's manageable even as a first pick. In my experience, the investment is worth it. Vassals are really strong at the start as well (you want that bonus to force limit), you can let them core. Focus on admin right away. I wouldn't do it if my ruler had a really bad admin skill though
@@andrewgreenwood9068 yeah it's great but dude, offensive. Siege skill and ability. You don't wanna fight large armies early (bye bye man power), you want to win the siege race. It's such a good policy and the + 20 siege from offensive. I'd be interested to know how you make quality inno work, what do you pick after that/or how do you get that policy in general (late game quality e.g.)?
For Sweden try out Innovative -> Quality -> Espionage -> Offensive. You end up with 45% ICR in the 1400s, 10% Discipline etc, and it only gets crazier from there.
i love that when i first played sweden, the experience was, wow this is easy and then i look at the income -15 and wonder where in fucks name did all my money go to
An important note about the polish throne. Poland will form the commonwealth at tech10 if they have lithuania. So if you activate the mission/ CB before that and they form it, it will turn into a conquest CB (happened to me). You can either leave the mission untill the formed the commonwealth (but they will be harder to control), or do it before.
I went with Aristocratic as it dovetails nicely with Swedish ideas. (more cav cost reduction as I love to run cav.) more manpower. better tradition upkeep cheep deving (given the mission tree needs deving) and make those cheep mercs better.
I like to use aristo first then go inno quality or offensive as sweden, those manpower buffs make it better than quantity IMO plus the goods produced with the fur and copper plus policies etc etc
Red Hawk: It's like standard set of Denmark's rivals (England, Poland) Me: OK, so now improve with rivals of Den...Novogrod, Bohemia and Burgundy mhmmm
haha i find it so strange and funny when a mission in a game is litterary about your home. Im from Skåneland and we still to this day hear about the wars between denmark and sweden here, so fun to see in a game
I started a sweeden game today. got to 1472 and just now realized that you put out a guide on sweeden today. Lets see how well I did then. or if I fell behind in trial and error mode.
The Black Plague destroyed Norway in the mid 14th Century. Before that it was arguably stronger than Sweden. Some say as much as 3/4 of the population was wiped out, hurting Norway more than any other nations. It became an empty land and colonized by Denmark. The eastern Norwegian population became genetically more slavic as well, except from the coastline. It took Norway 500 years to become an independent nation and free themselves from Danish vassalization. In that process, Norway lost the Faroe Isles, Iceland and Greenland to Denmark, which was a historical error. Sweden took Jamtland, Herjadalen and Viken from Norway because of the Danish - Swedish wars, that the Danes lost, so Norway had to pay for their loss with this land as well.
i follow the steps on this, and choose the first option: 'we need every supporter we can find though', getting notifications after off support form their three rivals who have 100+ attitude towards me but they dont show up as potential allies if i declare war of independance. tried twice now (with Denmark having different rivals both time) and never get the option for them to join?!
IMO, opening with innovative-quality-espionage-offensive is best for any military heavy nation. You stack Innovativeness, which is always good, along with infantry combat ability and siege ability. On top of that, it’s better to vassalize Novgorod and annex the livonians. Novgorod’s territory is crap for you, while annexing/vassalizing Riga and the Livonians in a single war takes them out of any possible coalition and gives you more immediately useful land.
Maybe because you have high Autonomy? Territories have minimum autonomy of 90% so create states. If your crownland is under 30% it'll increase your autonomy across the nation, so lower it every 10-15 years. Also, non-tolerated cultures and religions and -15% to your tax and production further lowering productivity.
When I get the event "Supporters of Swedish Independence" and I choose the top option to ally with denmarks rivals, they all accept but when I declare war it says that I have no allies...
When you are picking the estate helps event, i think you should pick 200 papal influence. I am %100 sure 200 papal influence worth more than 10 galleys so 100 ducats
Royal marry Moscovy/Russia if possible. Often a free PU. Historically two Swedish brothers created Russia and their lineage sat on the throne until Ivan the Terrible.
Ivan's son Fedor was the last Rurikovic sovereign of Russia. His death was followed by the Time of Troubles, after which the Romanov dinasty came to power.
22:02 same bug. i always notice this bug. after i fight for the independence war, the islands in north sea which was norwegian territories automatically changes to Scottish territory. and heaps more bugs too. once my chosen nation occupies lands, the country is also at war with other nation and make a peace deal with them to be a subjugate nation. i really get annoyed for this bug and somehow i got out of game addiction for those bugs. loll
Help! I have 5 diplomatic reputation and high legitimacy and prestige, but I cannot keep up with the increase of the Austria in supporting heir to the polish thorne. What should I do?
thanks for the guide, but i'm struggling with the achievement from the livonian order (almost prussian blue), it's an interestic and hard path if you want to try it ^^
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but everytime i play Sweden none of the nations who support my independence actually join the war, I tried it 5 times now and everytime I pick the choice in the event to call in Denmarks rivals they all agree and want to support my independence but when I want to declare independent war there i no possibility to call in my supporters...
I prefer taking lots of stuff in my ward and just doing less of them. It’s far more realistic and let’s you play EU4 as a strategy game and not just a blobbing sim. I have to do a LOT of RP to accomplish this though since there’s no migration system. I wish you could control puppet’s more so that you could have Norway start your colonization but it’s hard to absorb their colonies at the end
So for the supporters mission I’ve only had to ask one to support my independence and I was able to get the mission and usually at least one rival will support you day 1. Usually all the other rivals will join you once you pop the mission. This way I was able to reliably start the war with all 4 missions completed on December 11th 1444
Also if you want to cheese it, you can position your army on top of the Norwegian army before the war. That way you can stack wipe it day one since you don’t get black flagged
I don't get how this is supposed to work. I can't ally anybody as a junior partner. Even if I wait for 100 rep with whoever are Denmark's rivals, and that mission completes, and it says they pledge to my independence, when I go to declare war on Denmark it shows no allies. What am I missing?
@@Tajno87 ok after like five tries, the answer I found is to dev up the copper and iron provinces that you already have. There’s no other choice. And of course getting lucky with rng on when to take riga and Teutonic trade provinces. Also Gotland helps as it is a center of trade.
Why am I going bankrupt everytime? I'm doing same steps as you, trying not to lose money from events, but every guide I watch I just go bankrupt, what I'm doing wrong?
Look at your expenses and see what’s costing you so much money, it could be expensive advisors, too many forts or if your over your naval or army force limit
@@klutzy2605 I followed this guide step by step but when I started the war against Livonians ( After I took Novgorodian lands ) I was bankrupt, I tried to disable forts and lower army maintenance, but I still got bankrupt, I was using only diplo rep advisor also. Maybe it's because of all the loans I got idk, I don't understand the game economy and how to stay positive most of the time.
@@kazlasx Repay your oldest loans whenever you can, dev up your copper province, and lower autonomy as often as you can relatively manage(if you're worried about unrest/rebels, don't do it as much)...another thing that you can do is don't take the estate privileges that give you the +1 monarch point generation, having 30%+ crownland helps a lot with your finances too. Either take them as you get 40% crownland one by one, or take estate statutory rights when you hit ~0% crownland(which disables seize land for 20 years, but it resets you back to 30% crownland), which gets rid of that nasty -20% national tax modifier and the +0.40 monthly autonomy change. That might be a lot in one paragraph, so in a list, it would be: - repay oldest loans whenever you can manage - improve base production in your copper producing province(Dalaskogen) - lower autonomy in provinces where you can afford to - if you can't handle it, don't let your crownland be under 30% . . . either - - don't take the monarch point granting privileges unless you can stay above 30% crownland, or - - take estate statutory rights from the event once you're near 0%, giving you 30% crownland, but disabling seize land for 20 years Good luck.
First you have to sell crown land. Then take burghers loans When fighting independence. Don't let it take too long. Wait till you can take Lund and 1 more province peace out. Ideally before 1449 I recommend build spy network for teuton and go after them first. Because if go after Livonia or novgorod. Danzig event fires and they will ally Poland. Sometimes teuton ally big friends like Bohemia or even Lithuania. Then restart. Also if Poland makes Lithuania pu Then restart or try to keep Poland alliance after teuton take Livonia. Novgorod and lastly muscovy ASAP.
Wouldn't it be better to grab offensive->innovative-> quality? +3 pips guaranteed is pretty good, and the combat ability early on wouldn't be that extreme would it not?
I followed all steps but unfortunately I've got bancrupt after the war with Livonian Order :( what do you recommend in this case to prevent bancruptcy?
Bit late reply first when the league forms join protestant. Wait a bit you will get a cb called show superiority on emperor. However don't go to war unless ottoman have joined especially if France is catholic. This will make you the leader
If I'm honest, I feel slightly clickbaited by the video title. You did explain how to be Norse, but it was mostly reciting the preconditions for one of the events that allow it. If I'm watching a video, I'd expect to see you taking the steps to become Norse. Now the method you describe precludes doing that without a lot of save scumming, but there's the alternate way where you get Animist rebels in your territory. At the very least a visual summation would make waiting half an hour for the headliner part of the video worth my while. Not that the wider guide itself is bad, but on the whole it feels the opposite to how Paradox handled Norse.
@@pilotpandashot Workshops only affect production efficiency, not goods produced. It makes no sense to build them on low production dev provinces, no matter the trade good.
I never appreciated the work you have to put into those vids. I started my Sweden campaign literally 20 times by now and get screwed right out of the start with random events. Is it because of Ironman mode? Maybe. I kinda gave up and instead watch your vids instead, better for my frustration level anyway hehe
Honestly the more strong tags they add the better the late game is because you actually have challenging enemies. Besides it isn't like the ottomans, Russia and Spain aren't still the strongest nations.
@@andrewgreenwood9068 Yeah, whatever. Stay blind if you want. Making 60 ducats a month out of the production of ONE province and all of you won't ever see the problem there.
Can smb tell me why don’t nations support my independence though the game says the opposite? All 3 rivals of Denmark said they will support me but they don’t even appear in the window of war declaration
One possibility I can think of is that you didn't complete the mission that triggers the event for all 3 rivals to join in. The other possibility is that you did complete the mission, but in the event that pops up instead of the option for them to join in to help you(first option from the 3 possibilities in the event), you picked the second or the third one, in which case they won't help you with your independence.
Did you try to declare immediately after completing the mission? You may need to wait a month tick. I’ve had that happen as Burgundy(I asked for support, but declared before the game registered it) but I didn’t have an mission/event for it so I’m not certain.

That might be a lot in one paragraph, so in a list, it would be:
- repay oldest loans whenever you can manage
- improve base production in your copper producing province(Dalaskogen)
- lower autonomy in provinces where you can afford to
- if you can't handle it, don't let your crownland be under 30% . . . either
- - don't take the monarch point granting privileges unless you can stay above 30% crownland, or
- - take estate statutory rights from the event once you're near 0%, giving you 30% crownland, but disabling seize land for 20 years
Good luck.
First you have to sell crown land.
Then take burghers loans
When fighting independence. Don't let it take too long. Wait till you can take Lund and 1 more province peace out. Ideally before 1449
I recommend build spy network for teuton and go after them first.
Because if go after Livonia or novgorod. Danzig event fires and they will ally Poland. Sometimes teuton ally big friends like Bohemia or even Lithuania. Then restart.
Also if Poland makes Lithuania pu
Then restart or try to keep Poland alliance after teuton take Livonia. Novgorod and lastly muscovy ASAP.
Wouldn't it be better to grab offensive->innovative-> quality? +3 pips guaranteed is pretty good, and the combat ability early on wouldn't be that extreme would it not?
thank you!
Laith should have watched this
All i can say is: Damn i really wish I had the dlc and its especially painful since im swedish
why cant i call in the people ive improved realitons with in to my idependence war?
same here, any fix on why its not possible?
@@peterk7982 u have to have dlc
I followed all steps but unfortunately I've got bancrupt after the war with Livonian Order :( what do you recommend in this case to prevent bancruptcy?
>play as Sweden
>convert to Norse paganism
>conquer and convert most of Germany
>tag switch to France
>LARP as Charlemagne killing pagans
I feel like we should be able to take junior partners in wars anyway with a cb/claim.
That's too OP
5:15, don't insult Poland my man 👌
Early Catholic prussia? Is that a misión?
I've just started playing eu4 (30h) and tried to play sweden. Have like 10 loans losing 10 ducets a month getting rape by muscovy and it's like 1460
I know it's a bit late but does anyone know how to become leader of the Protestant League? I had to delete my Sweden run for this reason.
Bit late reply first when the league forms join protestant. Wait a bit you will get a cb called show superiority on emperor.
However don't go to war unless ottoman have joined especially if France is catholic. This will make you the leader
@@FroDtje Interesting. Thanks for sharing!
I mean if you're playing as sweden and youre not going protestant then youre doing things wrong...
Why cant i call any allies when i declear indipendence war???
How do you set a province as vital interest?
I can’t get independence support what do I do?
Please Hawk do teutons next
Heja Sverige!
Över norden jag härskar!
Is there a Danish Norse path?
This is a question I would like answered as well
I think all scandinavian countries plus iceland
All countries with a scandinavian primary culture can get the norse event when you own bergslagen.
Yes but....without releasing Sweden, what be the best path as Denmark?
@@Robert24247 no idea :P that method as denmark is probably not the best one
man, don't ally with Poland! without too many rivals in the region they just rise as fuck.
Why do you build workshops in high value trade good provinces?
It increases goods produced, better the trade good better the workshop(most of the time)
@@pilotpandashot Workshops only affect production efficiency, not goods produced. It makes no sense to build them on low production dev provinces, no matter the trade good.
I believe it is because you should end up deving those provinces later.
I never appreciated the work you have to put into those vids. I started my Sweden campaign literally 20 times by now and get screwed right out of the start with random events. Is it because of Ironman mode? Maybe. I kinda gave up and instead watch your vids instead, better for my frustration level anyway hehe
i love sweden!!!
Overpowered, Broken, 'So F. OP that campaings end in 1520' ...
Whatever you call it, it's a mess.
It's not as if you cant do that as france or any other major European power
@@DonutOfNinja Yep. And it gets easier and easier.
And now you can do that with OPM too.
Cheer dude.
@@Stephen64138 if you don't like it play something else.
hi
nice sweden, but super clickbait video, kkk
:)
How do you deal with all the loans? I have 18 loans and can even make any money to pay for them?
Totally unbiased swedish paradox developers: “hey what should we do to make Sweden a strong nation in eu4?”
Some dude: “idk, make the swedish troops shoot actual lasers”
I love you
