    TIME STAMPS:
5:04 -- The conversation kicks off with talk about Selema's cousin, South African rapper Selema Writes, his connection to Talib and Selema taking issue with having the same name as his cousin until he finally got the chance to meet him. They go on to discuss Selema's tweet in the wake of the Kyle Rittenhouse shootings stating "Zimmerman walked so Rittenhouse could run" and they get into why anti-racists see Rittenhouse’s racism, whereas others don’t seem to as well as how Zimmerman reinforced racist's sense of power and vigilantism.
11:59 -- Selema's father, iconic jazz musician Hugh Masekela is discussed and they get into his legacy as the father of South African jazz. Selema talks about the constant studying of his father's storytelling growing up, Hugh's strong and vocal advocacy for the Anti-Apartheid Movement through his music, being on the road with his father during Paul Simon's Graceland tour and his close friendship with famous musician and activist Fela Kuta. They also talk about the musical collaboration Alekesam between Selema and Sunny Levine and why it's a full circle moment for those two.
21:11 -- Selema speaks on playing the clarinet and saxophone throughout school and dealing with some inevitable pressures to achieve musical greatness being the son of Hugh Masakela. They go on to discuss the US government's lack of response to the refugee crisis in Haiti as well as Selema being raised in Staten Island, New York and going to elementary school with Method Man. He talks about how Meth was as a kid, being one of the funniest in school and also details his reaction years later when he witnessed his childhood friend on TV rapping with the Wu-Tang Clan.
29:58 -- Selema gets into his reunion with Meth during a MTV event and then later ending up in a van smoking out with DMX, Redman and Cappadonna. Selema goes on to talk about the nickname Sal that was given to him by his white friends after he moved to Southern California, the name sticking with him over so many years, his growing desire later on to be addressed by his birth name, and how Salema's friendship with Alyasha Owerka-Moore, his time working at ESPN as well as the George Floyd and Breona Taylor protests helped him arrive at the decision that he didn't want to be called Sal anymore.
40:07 -- Selema is asked about his move to Carlsbad, California when he was a teenager and the culture shock he encountered there being a black kid from New York. He talks about the challenges of finding a barber that could cut his hair, hearing the N-bomb on multipule occasions while on the beach learning how to surf and kids telling him he would never be good enough. They go on to discuss Selema stating "the idea that i have friendships with white folks but still speak out against white supremacy infuriates people" and how triggered some people get when he stands up for pro-black causes.
48:04 -- Selema tells how the emergence of the X Games changed the culture and not in a way that Selema approved of at the time. They go on to discuss his father's reaction to witnessing the X Games for the first time as well as Selema shutting down an ESPN rep's job offer as a correspondent and why he later reconsidered and took the gig. They also get into the incredible experience of being able to visit South Africa and film the ESPN documentary series 'Umlando' with his father during the FIFA World Cup. His father calling it "a righteous heist".
59:10 -- Selema speaks on the paddle out at Moonlight Beach held in George Floyd's honor after the protests as well as another meeting a year later of 150 black surfers at Manhattan Beach in response to an incident that occured when one of his friends was harassed by a racist on the beach weeks earlier. They go on to discuss Gavin McInnes blaming Talib for having to hire security guards, Selema's motto of "be blocked and be blessed" when dealing with online racists, D.L. Hughley's energy on social media as well as Talib and Selema's experiences on Snoop's GGN News.
1:13:25 -- Selema's clothing brand Mami Wata is explored and it's concept of African wearability within the very white world of surf fashion and streetwear. They go on to discuss the mission and ethos of Mami Wata and why he wanted to take the project on. Selema details how the idea came to fruition through all the people he met on his once a month trips to South Africa during his father's cancer treatments. He also goes on to share some of the Mami Wata gear with us Talib explains his inspiration for 'Ocean Song'.
1:23:01 -- Selema is asked about his relationship with world renowned fashion designer and entrepreneur Virgil Abloh. They discuss the inspiration that Virgil told Selema he was able to draw from his success and Virgil always being one that did whatever he could to lift up others. They go on to talk about Selema's Bomb Hole interview where he stated "F*ck your tolerance, start with acceptance and go from acceptance and work towards being able to embrace." Selema is also asked about his biggest takeaways working with and learning from snowboarding pioneer Jake Burton as well as what Selema has on the horizon.

This interview brings me a lot of joy, because as one of the few black kids who loved action sports, it was always a blessing to see someone like me corresponding the X Games. It's also amazing to hear of all the other monumental accomplishments and the ongoing projects he has going. Salute, People's Party for this! 🔥🔥🔥

This reminds me of all the Koreans who changed their name to something common like John because people couldn't pronounce their Korean names. Then because there were so many i.e. John Kim's we had to follow up with like the one who drives the black Honda accord.
