Fave Busta collab - GO! TIMESTAMPS: 3:00 -- Busta is asked when he realized the importance of his performances being spectacular, leaving a lasting impression with the audience. Busta explains how it came from his experiences touring under the tutelage of his Long Island forefather Chuck D and Public Enemy. Witnessing all the preplanning up to the full execution, and being there from PE's start in '86 all the way up to 'Fear Of A Black Planet'. Learning their concept driven approach to every album and making music with a meaning behind it. He tells how Chuck D gave Busta his name, as well as how he had to battle the group Young Black Teenagers for the rights to the name of Leaders Of The New School. 10:44 -- Busta speaks about his history of classic features on other artists' records. He lays out how he started taking cameos seriously after leaving Leader's Of The New School. He talks about bringing a bag of weed, a freshly rolled blunt, and some recently penned rhymes to the studio of his favorite artists. Soon enough they would ask Busta to jump in the booth and lay down bars that would become some of the most iconic collaborations on wax. They also examine the break up of Leaders Of The New School, all occurring on the set of Yo! MTV Raps. They discuss each member recording their second album 'T.I.M.E.' seperately, and what the main contributing factors were that led to the fallout between Busta, Charlie Brown and Dinco D. 24:40 -- Busta then goes on to praise Q-Tip for his mentorship early on in Busta's career, calling him the East Coast Dr. Dre. Busta explains how Tip opened countless doors for him with Busta's features on the Tribe albums. He then goes into his mind being blown when Tip gave Busta his first Dilla beat tape, which led to Dilla having production credits on just about every one of Busta's albums thereafter. He explains why Dilla dubbed Busta the James Brown of hip hop, Common's role as a great friend to J, and Dilla's beat selection process. Busta also reflects on his deep love of Dilla, being in possession of hundreds of his unreleased beats and the great responsibility he feels with where and who they go to. 34:22 -- Busta talks about the 'dream come true moment' with the release of his 1996 solo album 'The Coming'. He explains why the album took him 3 years to make, gives a shout-out to A&R Dante Ross for his help in getting Chris Lighty and Lyor Cohen to give him a solo deal. He outlines how he was intimidated by the pressure involved with taking on an album all by himself, but the fear became secondary when he saw the figures on the check, and realizing it didn't have to be split 4 ways. Busta goes on to tell about Q-Tip taking a plane to LA and leading on the logistics of 'The Coming' release, as well as explains the significance and sentimentality of one of the skits on the album. He also speaks on the 7 month process of penning the lead single 'Woo Hah!!', and the snowball of success once it hit the airwaves. 47:00 -- Busta reflects on influences of the Five-Percent Nation being present at a very young age. He explains his fascination of the Gods coming early with their philosophies, as well as how cool their given names were. He tells about getting knowledge-of-self when he reached age 12, but also getting caught up in street life around the same time, leading to his mother moving them to Long Island. He tells about bouncing back to Brooklyn for a few years then again to Long Island where the Leaders of the School was born as well as Busta's first child. Busta also gets into how Flipmode came to be as well as George Clinton introducing him to the book 'Behold a Pale Horse' written by Milton William Cooper, which ended up having a profound influence on Busta with it's conspiracy theories about a nearing apocalypse. 1:01:22 -- Talib reminisces on his and Busta's visit to the White House to meet President Obama in support of his My Brother’s Keeper initiative. Busta goes on to tell about the feeling of pride in being able to share his story as well as the teachings of the Five-Percent Nation with the President. Busta expresses his hopes in getting back to the conscious era in hip hop pioneered by groups like Public Enemy, Brand Nubian, and A Tribe Called Quest that faded into the background with the corporate exploitation of Gangsta Rap. He goes on to reveal some regrets about not following up enough with the attendees of that meeting to put plans into actions, but outlines his gratitude for how much he learned, as well the relationships he's built with his friends in the hip hop community. 1:13:31 -- Jasmin brings up UPROXX Music channel's 'New School Rappers React' series of younger emcees reacting to vintage classics. One of those being Busta's 'Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See' directed by Hype Williams. She asks Busta what his relationship was like with Hype during those times when they were releasing these mega-budgeted music videos with price tags of 1 Million plus. Busta explains how Hype always allowed him to have a huge say in how they approached the projects creatively, how the success of the movie Titanic came into play, and gives due credit to CEO Sylvia Rhone for her forward vision of the huge investments in these videos eventually paying off. 1:19:14 -- Busta walks us through his meeting with Dr. Dre at Record One Studios in 2003 for talks about plans for a project that would become the 'Big Bang' album. He tells how Dre advised Busta to consider taking a break from all distractions so he could get laser focused on creating music and working on his physical health. Busta talks about learning patience and discipline with his new super-strict work ethic, diet and workout schedule, as well as turning down potentially lucrative payouts. He talks about how despite some mis-steps along the way with the 'Big Bang', he still considers it some of his best work, especially from a production standpoint. 1:27:44 -- Busta goes on to outline the turbulent times that followed the success of his album 'Big Bang'. Beginning with a falling out with Interscope Records, prompting him to go back to Sylvia Rhone to make his next album, then following that with a collab of Cash Money Records. This eventually turning into a very rough period that included the passing of his father as well as his manager CEO Chris Lighty. Busta stating: "I descended on a downward spiral of carelessness and neglect for my well being". He illustrates his rock bottom moment this year after a night of heavy parting following the shooting of his music video for 'Czar'. He tells about falling into a serious case of sleep apnea leading to a trip to the emergency room and a surgery that likely saved his life. 1:43:17 -- Talib notes how incredible he found Busta's new album 'Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God'. He also states Busta not regularly being in the top 10 rappers of all-time conversation an injustice. Talib asks Busta if there was a conscious effort to come with the consciousness on his new album. Busta responds, and also explains why right now he feels like he's become his best-self which is why the narratives and themes contained on this album couldn't be timed any more perfectly. They also cover Kendrick Lamar's contribution on 'Look Over Your Shoulder', Busta's producer Nottz landing the acapella sample of a young Michael Jackson, Kendrick being the one to choose that beat, and Busta names off his 'Beat Avengers' crew, with the 5 go-to producers over the course of his career. 1:53:31 -- Jasmin brings up Busta's recent public back and forth with T.I. about a potential Verzuz battle. She asks Busta how it feels to have so many of his peers view him as one of the untouchables when it comes to a battle on that platform. Busta goes on to express his wish for a Verzuz with Missy Elliott in a celebratory way, honoring both of their legacies together with their history of close ties. Talib concludes the show by noting how much of a trip down memory lane this interview has been with all the family connections discussed and Busta returns the love and appreciation of their comradery.
The Dillagence project that Busta put together was so important to me as a fan. Im so happy that Talib made a point to ask him about working with Dilla.
Yes you guys do and I’m thankful for it. He doesn’t get the respect he deserves. Btw - when are you guys going to get Paris on the show? His latest release and videos are hitting!
Talib, I'm a 30-something white guy in Europe who doesn't know too much about the culture, but I genuinely love your interviews - I learn so much from them. Your style is perfect: real conversations, no time for easy soundbites. One of the first hip-hop albums I got when I was little was Busta's ELE - love this guy. Love Black Star too, and I promise to look into your body of work moving forward! Sending you & Jasmin respect and appreciation
Shoutout to Jaz and Talib on having a legend in Busta Rhymes. He is so underrated when it comes to him and music. His longevity from the Leaders of the New School to now is incredible. When need to give his man his credit when its due. By the way ELE2 is 🔥🔥🔥. A definite classic and should be up for album of the year for 2020
That intro was so crazy and well deserved. Busta crying tears of joy. My heart is breaking open💔. I was there at the Palladium, NYC. I saw you both & I see you now. Blessings and joy gentlemen & Queen mama.. ✌🌏
ELE2 proved that Busta Rhymes, this deep in his career, is like LeBron in Year 18.... ageless! PS: Extinction Level Event 2 is THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR in my humblest opinion!
That's crazy, I dropped that comment before you brought it up! Awesome that Busta was the one to put you onto that! Moment Of Clarity is my favorite Jay-Z track and I give him mad respect for praising you as the amazing lyricist you are. I honestly wasn't into Jay and didn't listen to his music at all until he got with Danger Mouse and dropped The Grey Album. Really made me appreciate his flow and cleverness. Also, how genius must that guy be to resell the same album 3 different times. The Black Album, The Gray Album and he did that Collision Course thing with Linkin Park and re-released a bunch of their songs together. His business sense is impeccable. "Get By" the first Talib Kweli track I heard, and still my favorite. Much love for seeing two legends just big each other up and support one another, that's how it should always be! Really, REALLY love and respect you two SO SO MUCH!
I discovered Busta when I was barefoot and hungry at 11 years old back in 1997. I was listening through an old PANASONIC car radio hooked up to a car battery. Today I watch this podcast on a fancy smart TV with a cigar in my hand and a beautiful wife next to me. Busta's music carried many of us through hardships. Thank you, with love from SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦
"Skip to my Lu, kinda Funky" were the first lyrics I heard before being introduced to Busta! He's a fantastic artist one of a kind from day 1, without doubt 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿great Interview! thanks ✌️🏿& 💛
What a fantastic story, thanks for Busta's honesty, I've seen so many of your interviews. However, this one is right up there with one of my favorites. This elder and so appreciates what you are doing and the way you showcase our people in such a positive. way. Asante sana son. Keep up the noble work.
Mad Props to Busta for shoutin out William Cooper and his monumental book 'Behold A Pale Horse'. Definitely the most cherished text on my shelf. I was 15 when 'The Coming' dropped, and it straight up blew my mind. I already loved Busta from Leaders albums so I was hyped for his first solo joint. But when 'Woo Hah' came out it was game over. 'Wild for the Night' was my jam too. Thank You Busta. Keep on. FLIPMODE IS THE SQUAD!!!
Jay Dilla is one of my top 5 favorite producers (Pete Rock, Q Tip, Primo, RZA). I stayed with Slum Village in my CD player in my car. Q Tip birthed many producers and sounds across genres. I’m glad Buss gave those generals their 💐 flowers 🌸
When I think of Hip Hop, I think of Busta. This brotha got the game with no instructions on how to assemble it and paved the way for many young brothas. Nuff Respect ✊🏾
Great interview! I notice no one ever asks him about Flipmode Squad!! Maybe he asks interviewers not to talk about them. Rah Digga is a top 5 female MC!!!
“At exactly which point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise? That’s why knowledge of self is like life after death, apply it to your life like destiny manifest.” 🚀🌑🌍 I listen to the podcast but had to come to the video to give you and Jasmin are doing the damn thing with your platform. Been rockin with you for a while mayne
As cliché as it is to say, Talib was one of my favorite rappers at a point in my life...still is I guess, but not just cuz of his music but the vibe I got from him. I guess that's also true for all my favorite artists period. So now being a fan of his podcast its hittin all over again! I really enjoy the way he asks questions and let's his guest talk about things in depth. His genuine interest in what they have to say motivates them to share, its like you can see them just feel comfortable by the vibe him and Jas provide just being genuine and welcoming and then they just open up. Shit is great! Incredible!
For me, this is not only an entrepreneur story but a transformation story. Miles Munroe said you become a true leader thru self-discovery, overcoming obstacles, and breaking out of comfort zones. Busta Rhymes showed that. We gotta take care of ourselves.
I don't think I've even listened so intently hanging on every word thru video lag in my life. I read the Behold a pale Horse as well and now hearing him say that he gave the book to Gipp I can cleary see how that info transfered and helped mold those particular albums and artists.
Even thinking back to the Busta features on the Rumble in the Jungle and Hit ‘em High singles. So captivating with his lyricism, appearance and energy. That 96-99 period was some amazing work from Busta.
Busta is too live and fast even for 5G networks. Xfinity can’t even keep up with this man’s energy, He’s on a whole nother universe. I can’t even see him in this video. It’s just a blank screen.
Peace to the Gods. So much love and respect for these two. As a white kid growing up in a middle class area in ohio, I never heard of the nation of the gods and earth's or supreme mathematics. I don't claim to be part of the nation or anything like that. But I am forever grateful to busta, wutang, talib, and many more for teaching me those lessons, jewels and the importance of knowledge of self. It changed my life and probably saved my life. Not to mention, they all make Bangers!!! Busta also needs to write a book. The stories and history would be incredible.
Such a god MC, I'm glad he could share some of his knowledge for the People's Party! Glad y'all brought up his music videos, each one was so well crafted and unique! I have to admit I haven't listened to ELE2 entirely yet so I'll have to check it out at some point very soon haha
I love Talib Kweli, even Jay-Z gave him ups! One of the greatest lyricists of all time. Busta has always been my favorite rapper, hands down. "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See" is one of my all-time favorite raps. So good, such a solid beat, amazing lyrics. Two powerhouses in the game, I fucking love it!
Great interview as always! 🙌🏽 I would have liked a question about DJ Scratch and his involvement in the early Busta albums. And a little about Flipmode, what Busta’s expectations were for the group and what he feels went wrong with it. The Imperial was a strong album for me.
I hate these call in interviews this would have been even more dope if they were sitting across the table from each other and recorded on high quality cameras
@@JasminLeigh but you can, if you and your guests sit 1-3 ft apart from each other. This could be implemented with such thought. Try it, if it works go with it, if not ditch it! Please also provide high quality headphones for audio!
Brooklyn 🗽💪🏽 Peace to the Gods and Earths Talib intros be the best ever 🔥💯 Busta deserves all his Flowers and I'm glad he's getting them now. Been a long time coming 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
I love hearing about the Knowledge, hearing names like Malik Bey, speaking on books that are banned in the prison system like Behold a Pale Horse. The knowledge of self is why Hip Hop saved my life and this interview is a special one. Get a OG Bboy on here! There’s more elements to this Hip Hop thing and I would love to see a interview with Ken Swift or someone who represents the culture well like Bboy Thesis. Much love! Keep em coming.
Talib and Jasmin are great hosts, this show needs more love. Great insight into his mind. Could listen to another 3 hours of this team up. Bustas latest album is best. Awesome interview.
Yeah man that book "Behold the Pale Horse " messed my head up too. I had to put it down several times just to imbibe what I was reading. It definitely blew me away.
I’ve been enamored by Busta again. The man just showed back up, like he has never left. I love the new album. I’m so excited about his reemergence. Thanks for this Ep 🖤💫 #cosign4sarcasm #surreal_demasturdebator
People hate on anything nowdays...I remember looking at a video on youtube where a police officer blessed a child with a gift on his birthday ..Mom was excited just like the child was in I see the dislikes...smh
Deeeppp very deeeeep interview... to much knowledge of life he was sharing to us to elevate and become the highest of ourselves... thanks Talib for your podcast.. 🎤
"Still Shining"is one of the most incredible songs. I always wondered how that was created. The beat was all over the place from the beginning, and Bus had to follow the accents of the beat??? 💯💥
Good interview. Sounds like Buss alresdy made his versuz choice, and I supoort it wholeheartedly, hope Missy and everybody gets on board, if not, let them do their own event together. And the words you two exchanged was a beautiful close to the interview, as well.
Great interview, big fan of Busta Rhymes. Now please get that interview with my sister Sa-Roc the goddess mc. She is a incredible artist & person, and DJ Sol Messiah #GodHopAllDay

Great interview! I notice no one ever asks him about Flipmode Squad!! Maybe he asks interviewers not to talk about them. Rah Digga is a top 5 female MC!!!
They're not relevant to the conversation in question
Wow this is an epic interview. Emotional, historical, inspirational and just incredible. Save this one 🙏
LOVE to hear Busta talk about Dilla and his legacy, heartfelt realness. Much love & RESPECT!
“At exactly which point do you start to realize that life without knowledge is death in disguise? That’s why knowledge of self is like life after death, apply it to your life like destiny manifest.” 🚀🌑🌍
I listen to the podcast but had to come to the video to give you and Jasmin are doing the damn thing with your platform. Been rockin with you for a while mayne
HUGE GRATITUDE!
ohhh yeah! i was so looking forward to this
Great interview. My favorite Bus album is "The Big Bang". What a great album. Still relevant today. Good to see him back.
Incredible!
So glad this resonates with you.
Great interview...Thank u for letting that King just chop it up. Love to ALL
One ☝🏽 of the best interviews anywhere ever ‼️⚡️⚡️
For me, this is not only an entrepreneur story but a transformation story. Miles Munroe said you become a true leader thru self-discovery, overcoming obstacles, and breaking out of comfort zones. Busta Rhymes showed that. We gotta take care of ourselves.
I don't think I've even listened so intently hanging on every word thru video lag in my life. I read the Behold a pale Horse as well and now hearing him say that he gave the book to Gipp I can cleary see how that info transfered and helped mold those particular albums and artists.
Busta interviews are always the best, entertaining and informative.
Even thinking back to the Busta features on the Rumble in the Jungle and Hit ‘em High singles. So captivating with his lyricism, appearance and energy. That 96-99 period was some amazing work from Busta.
Rest in POWER ✌🏼 💫 🖤 DILLA
someone hit busta up with some decent internet STAT!
This was a seriously good episode
Busta is too live and fast even for 5G networks. Xfinity can’t even keep up with this man’s energy, He’s on a whole nother universe. I can’t even see him in this video. It’s just a blank screen.
Busta shuts down wifi for blocks. Takes em back to the dial up days!
When Busta and Talib collaborate, it’s an event!!!!
Man...Love this dude. Spectacular interview and Lots of knowledge being dropped if you listen to it all!
Thanks for listening
Thank you. We, Pause the Internet needs more Busta Rhymes.
Arguably the greatest rap video eva made 💯💯
Love the VODS. Keep showing an providing us with this greatness
Salute. Thank you Talib for not being like some others and constantly cutting the artist off. Love this.
ELE my favorite Busta album! Love every song but Everybody Rise is my joint, perfect track to kick the LP off! Peace and Love ✊🏾🙏🏾
Good pick! What do you think of the new joint?
@@uproxx I love it! Timeless old school sound not sounding outdated but updated! 🤙🏾
i still have that Cd
Busta Rhymes for the winnnnn!
Great interview as always! 🙌🏽
I would have liked a question about DJ Scratch and his involvement in the early Busta albums. And a little about Flipmode, what Busta’s expectations were for the group and what he feels went wrong with it. The Imperial was a strong album for me.
Missy vs. Busta Verzuz to me would be ideal.
truth
I hate these call in interviews this would have been even more dope if they were sitting across the table from each other and recorded on high quality cameras
You have Covid 19 to blame for what has change,I been hearing that someone in the comments on a video I look at has said coronavirus was Fake
Yeah we wish we could be in the studio as well !! Thank you for hanging in there with us during this trying time
He was on Drink Champs recently in person. It was a 4 + hour video!
@@Repdetec04 i was just about to comment that. And that interview/bar setting convo was one of the best ive seen in a while.
@@JasminLeigh but you can, if you and your guests sit 1-3 ft apart from each other.
This could be implemented with such thought.
Try it, if it works go with it, if not ditch it! Please also provide high quality headphones for audio!
Brooklyn 🗽💪🏽
Peace to the Gods and Earths
Talib intros be the best ever 🔥💯
Busta deserves all his Flowers and I'm glad he's getting them now. Been a long time coming 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Salute to BKNY....R.I.P BIG and R.I.P My sister Dot

@@willforeverpubg8264 Respect and Salute King 💯💪🏽
Oh snap! This might be the best one yet!
Best from this platform, i prolly have to agree. Busta on drink champs was my fave busta interview tho.
YEssssss! Thanks for the love!
Need another Talib Kewli and Busta Rhymes for the culture.
There will never be another Talib Kweli or Busta Rhymes in human history. They’re both one of a kind, the last of a dying breed.
Speak on it!
Yeah man that book "Behold the Pale Horse " messed my head up too. I had to put it down several times just to imbibe what I was reading. It definitely blew me away.
An entire LEGEND!!!!!! Thank you!!
6am to start my shift right this Monday . Uproxx for the win 💪🏻🏁🏁
We're with you at work! Repping hard for you!
One of the greatest interviews ever straight quality work
Album and interview of the year!
Straight fire, peace to these two Gods of the game!! Bless up 🙏
Another classic!! ELE2 is AOTY 🔥
It’d be legendary for some Native Tongues on here. Or a BLACKSTAR episode 👀
That was simply Epic. & I don’t say that lightly that was simply on another level .
An impeccable memory. The trademark of a GOD emcee . . .
I’ve been enamored by Busta again. The man just showed back up, like he has never left. I love the new album. I’m so excited about his reemergence. Thanks for this Ep 🖤💫 #cosign4sarcasm #surreal_demasturdebator
Busta!!!! Top 5 of all time
Busta is a gentleman, love the words he says about Missy. Nothing but love NYVA
To the only person that gave this a thumbs down had no business on this channel in the first place, FOH!!!
People hate on anything nowdays...I remember looking at a video on youtube where a police officer blessed a child with a gift on his birthday ..Mom was excited just like the child was in I see the dislikes...smh
Hater's LOVE hating.
@@uproxx banned Talib...but Trump went wild on Twitter...only in America
Itll be dope to get on here one day ❤ great show and always great guest
Deeeppp very deeeeep interview...
to much knowledge of life he was sharing to us to elevate and become the highest of ourselves... thanks Talib for your podcast.. 🎤
Nice interview. I only wish they would have talked about his work with Easy Mo Bee on The Coming album. People forget about Easy Mo Bee
Make Some Noise
Awesome interview with the legendary Busta Rhymes. That chain though...
Damn Busta...
Busta leaving leaders was a blessing for hip hop. He would have been held back and faded away with the rest of them.
Such a dope interview!!
Appreciate that!
You NEVER disappoint with your shows #realtalk
TELL YOUR FRIENDS! (please!)
This is a DOPE interview.. i would love to see/hear an interview with The Teacha KRS-ONE
Always been one of my favs !!
Great talk all around, everybody...
I loved this conversation
Two of my favourite. Kweli & Busta. Amazing
Love this interview!
This was a great interview I learned a lot about busta rhymes in this interview
glad you felt it!
Missy and Busta video verses would be dope.
Dr Dre Is a real Living Legend
💪🏾💯✊🏾 RESPECT ⚔️ HONOR !!! Peace to the Gods and Earth. Loved this episode. I am thankful for this 🔥🐉🔥 #Gratitude
busta is a legend... no doubt. but he shoud improved his wifi
"Still Shining"is one of the most incredible songs. I always wondered how that was created. The beat was all over the place from the beginning, and Bus had to follow the accents of the beat??? 💯💥
Dope Interview, legends...
.
#BEERnMUSIC
Good interview. Sounds like Buss alresdy made his versuz choice, and I supoort it wholeheartedly, hope Missy and everybody gets on board, if not, let them do their own event together. And the words you two exchanged was a beautiful close to the interview, as well.
Talib need to exhcange features on Killah Priest Podcast. Those conversations would be DEEP.
I remember Busta used to pop up in 1OAK every other week when I used to work there. He's real chill in person.
Great interview, big fan of Busta Rhymes. Now please get that interview with my sister Sa-Roc the goddess mc. She is a incredible artist & person, and DJ Sol Messiah #GodHopAllDay
It's already been done! Coming up after the break!
Aside from being a legendary artist, Busta just seems like a genuinely good human.
Busta describing the 5%ers and the transformers being on the same vibe had me in tears lol the undisputed heavyweight MC, peace god
