    I'm 15 and I do this all the time. From my experience, you're doing it all wrong. Trying to walk up the tree like this puts unnecessary strain on your arms and back, instead, put your feet flat on either side of the tree and move your crotch as close to the tree as you can. It will look almost as if you're sitting Indian style. You can also use your knees as an extra friction piece when doing this if you want to stop to pick something out of the tree or whatever. This way will allow your arms freedom and will put most of the weight on your lower body. Ive tried both ways and your way is much harder. Just my two cents - Caleb

      Also, never wear shoes. Shoes don't grip trees well. Your feet can wrap around the contour of the tree providing a bigger area of foot to tree contact.

      +Caleb Whittington You took the words right out of my mouth! I couldn't agree more Caleb. Shimmying up the tree by keeping your legs tucked in a "butterfly stretch" and keeping your torso and crotch as close to the tree as possible significantly reduces the strength needed to hoist yourself up for such a thin tree diameter, and bear feet grip much better than shoes do.

    • @Zombot
      @Zombot 8 років тому +2

      I also recommend taking any unnecessary junk out of your pockets that will get in your way and prevent your legs from bending, as well as wearing pants that fit well and are made of an elastic material. My favorite pants for the woods are probably the 5.11 Stryke pants with Flextac material. They're a good combination of light, flexible, and durable although they can get a little hot and stuffy in 70+ degree weather.

      Thanks for the info Caleb. I choose this was to make it more of a challenge. I will get better with this technique though.

    Getting older definitely makes it harder to do something we were able to do effortlessly in our youth. I haven't tried something like that in over a decade. Great job ! Getting down was always the part I dreaded.

    I absolutely love that you made this video! When I was younger, I am 21 now, used to live in the trees basically. All day long I would be climbing as high as I could and then very stupidly get to a spot to jump out of it. I have recently noticed the very sad truth that kids don't climb trees anymore. I have these great memories of climbing to the top where I would sway with the wind and have my own personal perspective on my surrounding that was just liberating! All I see today are parents that are too afraid to allow their curious children to naturally explore and have fun. I try to do my part to get the children I interact with outside but I do actually fear for the next generation. Hopefully they will value the outdoors like I do and I know you do but I'm just not sure.

    a trick I use is a pharmacies loop on my feet allows you to clinch your boots or feet around the tree and thus your weight acts as a brake going up the tree islanders use this technique to collect coconut..when my Arthritis wasn't bad I loved climb trees I still do but the trees I pick have branches lol.Peace Pops Bushcraft .

    hey guys i climb the kind of trees all the time. the best way to climb them is not only using your feet and hand but use your feet hands and inner thighs on the tree. basically just shimmy up it

    As humans are legs aren't really adapted for climbing any more, you need to utilise your upper body for this and instead of using the ball/toes of your foot to grip the tree you could try using the inside of you food? sort of use the natural shape of your foot to 'hug' the shape of the tree. hiking/walking boots are also bad cause they're too flexible but bulky

    you can see the same idea in the cartoon film 'mulan'' where its just army training..of intelligence ..but in fact the african and south american natives knew it before anyone else....our wild ancestors knew a lot of stuff we dont know..its always worth studying what they used to do..in some places still do..we could lose all our technology. its worth it weight in gold then. but if we lose everything..then its what you can do spiritually that counts. and nothing else.

    Easy squeezy. Put honey on your butt. Dance in front of bears, shake your booty, and point in their direction (dah-dah-dah-dah, nyeah-nyeah-nyeah) ... and run like hell and fly up that tree without a problem, limbs or no limbs. Bear will never be able to climb up with all your (----) covering the tree bark.

Try shoes with a more soft rubber sole so they grip better or if your feet are OK with it go barefoot and spit on your hands and soles of feet so they go tacky this will help grip lol was a fantastic effort though

  • @3leopardsblue
    @3leopardsblue 8 років тому

    nope.thats not how to do it.get two strips [wide] thick cloth.stirrups or cups or yank handles [each]. with the bottom one around the tree you''walk''yourself up..with rest intervals..with the other too even women can climb even palm trees..it too goes around the tree..you use it as required in time with the other..for arm power..thusly you get all four quarters of muscles engaged with no slipping back. i saw black men climbing a huge tree looking for honey years ago..think it was an attenborough programme..the native insisted women were incapable of climbing trees..which is true without assistance women generally cant..got no strength in our chests and arms.. and our point of gravity is much lower....so i worked out how it could be done....by anyone.
