Well, it's logical, Corypheus were basically servant of the elven gods, unknowingly so. Corrupted by the same corruption in the city Elgar'nan has been stuck for millennia, Golden City/Black city. Apparently it does something to the character. He even used the same immortality method, probably found the secret in the Black City.
@@HelenKorell So ı don't play the game(and not gonna intend to) does Black City stroyilne explained in Veilguard? Does it corrupted by Magisters or Elves far too long ago or city was already corrupted by the time they get there?

The difference is that Corypheus is just this the whole game, while Elgar'nan starts out as a calm, even seductive manipulator and only becomes this out of grief and desperation.
I personally found Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain far more appealing than Rook and Co - the latter are just... bland. They're "the good guys", they're "the nice ones", and that's it. Just finished this game last night. I thought the Ghilanain battle was way more challenging than Elganan. I’m not sure if it had to do with that exclusive rune I equipped prior to the fight, or if I just had a good combination of armor and weaponry. His hits didn’t do much damage. I was expecting a phase 2 after I won.
I feel like Elgar'nan should have been better done. He is powerful, yet doesn't intimidate. He is evil, yet he is not either entertaining or hate-inducing. How is, to put an example from another game's final boss, Radagon of the Golden Order from Elden Ring, much more interesting without even uttering a single word?
i think he was done well, but i found ghilannain to be more of a pain. he just needed more time. definitely not bland at all tho thats just your opinion
I found Elgar'nan to be rather charming and intimidating in the few scenes he was in. The Elgar'nan we see in this fight is at his wits end, we've foiled all his plans, he's fully consumed by blight, we killed his sister and only remaining ally from the old world. So... yes. He's angry.
I played the game. Wasn't the best, of course. But the lore itself is nothing to be mad about. Most of the stuff they brought up in VG are stuff that were heavily hinted on in Inquisition. I always wondered if it was Elgar’nan who was behind the creation of the Kossith aka the proto-Qunari, as an army of dragon-blooded reavers.

Is Elgar'nan voice actor the same person who voice Illidian Stormrage in Warcraft? Sounds so similiar.
No, he was voiced by someone else.
He reminds me of Eredin from Witcher 3

"I am team!"
"I am defeated!"
