Marco and Floor are a fantastic duet. Marco has said that when singing duets with Tarja and Annette he felt like he had to hold back so he didn't overpower them but with Floor he could sing at full strength.
@@Abigirl_Reacts It's the climax of the song, so both singers were not holding back. And Marko is not just another backup singer, he is better than most front singers of other bands. Plenty of Nightwish songs have both Floor & Marko going back and forth (Romanticide, Ghost River, Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean, etc).
@@Abigirl_Reacts also, Marco is the lead singer in his own band that he and his brother created back in 1982 and was still going strong even while he was with Nightwish.. it was a metal band called Tarot. I don't know that you would call Marco a back up singer... I like how tedkord1968 put it as "co-leads" but I'm not sure that's accurate, as this band is self described as having a "female lead singer", and not "co-leads". But Marco does do more than just "back-up" singing
@@Abigirl_Reacts It's interesting to listen to Floor and Marko sing together outside of Nightwish. Low down Marko has the power edge, but as they go higher Floor easily sings over him. Here in "Ever Dream" I have the feeling that the issue was in the mix. That said, Floor will deliberately back off to give Marko the lead on some songs. She is very much a team player. In "Kiss While Your Lips Are Still Red" at Wembley she sat on the drum riser, in the dark, in silence, until it was time for her to supply the backing vocals. Very few lead singers will sing backing vocals for the backing vocalist. Floor will.
If you want to see Marco take lead with Floor singing back up check out While You Lips are Still Red from Wembley 2015 and The Islander from Tampere 2015.
And a song they never did live on stage, a dis-track towards Tarja's manager and husband, who had probably the biggest part in the divorce of Nightwish from their founding member and lead vocalist, called "Master Passion Greed" and yes Tuomas was very angry when he wrote that song...which Marko did alone without any female back-up
If you want to hear Marko sing alone, then react to Nightwish - High Hopes . It's a Pink Floyd Tribute. Marko is not a backround singer, if he sings along with Floor then he sings WITH Floor. His micro is perfectly adjusted. He's the icing on the cake in this song. You have to get out of your pigeonholing a bit. Just because Floor has the title mainsinger and sings most of the songs, it doesn't mean that a second singer belongs in the backround. When Marko sings along, it's a duet and both complement each other equally.
Agreed, Ghost River is one of my favorites from this show (whom I kidding, EVERY single from this concert is a favorite.) There is a part near the end of Ghost River where Floor is basically singing Acapella and it gives me chills, it’s soo beautiful and chilling.
That ending with Marko and Floor belting together was magic in my ears. So I can't see or rather hear the issue. I have never hard two singers complement each other better than those two.
I don't think Floor is bothered by clapping audience. She has earbuds in and she usually only links in with the sound of the drum and the base in her ears. The rest she knows by heart. To put it consise, she does not hear the audience, and she does not hear half of the band. At least that is what she said in an interview. She is very precise with the volume of the earbuds in relation to her own singing. You will see her correcting them physically and electronically multiple times during a concert. Fun fact, the guitar player (Empuu) once disconnected her earbuds during a concert leaving Floor helpless. She took revenge the next concert by putting apple juice in his Corona beer bottle that he drinks during the concerts (he hates apple juice).
That's Marco Hietala... and he has some vocal parts but also some songs he sings by himself. Amazing guy! They do some amazing harmonies with Floor! :)
@@Abigirl_Reacts to check his vocals, check "the Islander" by Nightwish (Tampere live) . Marko sings solo. Also you may want to check the "Phantom of the Opera" from 2005 (with Tarja, the original/first singer of the band) where he sings duet (the male part, the phantom).
I disagree with your take on Marko's part in this, but I appreciate your honesty. Floor once called this her most difficult song to sing, because so much of it is very high in her range, and I think we can all understand that.
Actually, it's the high belting part that's difficult, not from the ability standpoint, but rather that she didn't want it to sound too thin. If she just went all head voice (like Tarja did with this song), then it would just be a cruise for her.
With regard to audiences clapping and throwing the timing off: Most of the time these days, major bands performing live use in-ear monitors in order to remain on pitch and in sync. Floor is hearing the drummer in her ears and sings to his tempo, not stage monitors or PA speakers. Also, and especially when playing with an accompanying orchestral track (i.e. Ghost Love Score) there is a "click track" mixed with the in-ear audio, sounding like an electronic metronome, to help everyone maintain tempo with the pre-recorded orchestra, since the orchestra's tempo cannot vary.
Marko Hietala, bass/male vocals, has a long and distinguished history dating back before Nightwish. He is well known and loved in Finland as one of the pioneers of metal there. And Finland, by the way, has more metal bands per capita than any other country in the world. Marko (legal name, Marco, stage name no longer used though he has said he doesn't care which spelling is used) can be heard taking the lead in some Nightwish songs, and his duets with Floor are spectacular. If you really want to hear what Marko can do, take a listen to Nightwish's tribute to Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" from the End of an Era DVD. Then, listen to "The Islander" live at Tampere. He is such a versatile singer. In this song, and in others, I love the contrast between the two voices. But, that's a matter of personal taste, and I certainly respect yours.
You are completely right. Marco Hietala has a very powerfull voice, and is a great singer, just like Floor, but who sounds "louder" in what you hear in your headphone is mainly the result of choices made by the mixing engineers.
I would recommend the Wembly live version of Greatedt Show on Earth, as the sound is much better in that video, especially Floor’s vocals. People like the Tampere version because of the fireworks, which personally I feel distract from the song audio.
NW is about creating music together, everyone is equal, no one will be "the one" other than Tuomas maybe, doing what he loves and care about, which is storytelling music...
The blonde girl you noted who was sitting on her boyfriend's shoulders.... Did you notice the second time she appears, they had a shot of Empuu doing one of his signature tosses of a guitar pick out into the crowd. Then the editors immediately cut to that girl with her mouth wide open so that your brain automatically insert the (non-existent) visual of her catching the guitar pick like a tossed piece of popcorn! I love that shot. All throughout this concert, the editors play some fun games with the edits. Like the now-famous "time traveller" guy in Storytime! LOL.
Although it's a live performance. This concert was recorded on Blu-ray. So, you are reacting to a song from the Blu-ray that has been mixed. People keep steering reactors to Wacken 2013 because it is said to be a perfect mix. I agree. I have never thought about the volume of Marko's voice and if it appears a little louder in this song then it's nice for him to get a little of the limelight. When they actually harmonize in songs it's marvelous. 😄🤘
I never think of Marko as a backup vocalist. He is a powerful lead singer in his own right and in his own bands. He just doesn't sing as much in Nightwish. For me I get the chills whenever he comes in to give us his little treats of vocal goodies! He is also one of the few people that can say HE has had Floor as a backup vocalist haha! When you get a chance watch the 7 Days to the Wolves in wembley. An extremely well done duet/harmonies by Marko and Floor. One of their best bangers in my opinion. Cheers!
Nightwish did have 3 lead singers, Floor, Marco and Troy - at that time. And it is all about the story, not who is the loudest - if the story demands a loud cry, it should always overpower the lead - to make the point in the story. Everything in Nightwish storytelling is done by purpose, to ensure the optimal experience. On their newest album, people were complaining about Floor being too low on ' Perfume of the Timeless' - but it is meant to be that way, because she (the storytelling) is a chorus, of the story and not the dominant. It works great
Everything they do is on purpose and intended, got it. Even if that's true, my opinion stands that marco shouldn't be louder than Floor considering Floor is the main singer on this one. We can agree to disagree though, that's OK! Thanks for watching.
There are no mistakes made in this song, Marko joined at the end as designed to support her voice as that sounds better. And remember: this is tight, live and without auto-tune/pitch correction. What artists nowadays can/will do this? Not Celine Dion, not Taylor Swift.
Marco was in a recent season of the Finnish version of The Masked Singer and won the season. He is currently doing a season of a Finnish show which is similar to the Dutch show Beste Zangers. It's a show where 8 singers sing the songs of one of the other singers. It's not a competition though. They just sing the songs. Elize Ryd, the singer of Amaranthe, is also participating in the show.
For me it's the combination of both voices that gives me chills - pretty much always when they are singing together. Until now I didn't even realize that he's louder in this song. So thank you for your point of view!
Agree with this comment. I think the musical idea is for the voices to take over from each other and blend shortly. I personally think it works great and untill this day, I haven't even thought about him beeing to loud. I do see Abis point, though - but I just don't can't see them achieving the same musical idea with him comming in softer. He shouldn't in my opinion come across as merely a backup singer or something like that. He is shortly the lead singer and/or they share that spot briefly. Therefore he needs to be as powerfull as he is, in my view. But it's interresting to nerd-discuss this specific element, having listened to the song many times and seen a ton of reactions 🙂
Oh don't get me wrong though, Marko is an incredible singer! I don't necessarily view him as just s back up singer or think he needs to be soft overall. I simply don't think he should be louder than Floor since she sang 95% of this song so I consider her the lead.
@@Abigirl_Reacts It bothered you so much that you felt like it's worth pointing out. Do you think you can get used to it so that it doesn't pop up in your mind any more as being "wrong"? We all are different and consider things differently - and that is good. That's actually how we improve. Those guys mixing the music have done a good job. I wonder how much they can do in post production. It probably depends on how many tracks they record separately. But for the live event they must have different settings pretty much for every song, I suppose. Or even within a song certain instruments are taken up, like chimes. In the Pink Floyd tribute "High Hopes" (End of an Era) Marko proves, that he definitely is not just a back up singer 🙂
I remember when I first started my Nightwish discovery, I thought the same thing about Marko. Why is he taking over the singing?? I want to hear Floor! I soon enough began to understand the importance of Marko in the band and quickly loved his input and all that he brings. I'm sure you will too one day and you won't find it distracting. His powerful voice elevates this song and performance especially as it begins to climax. Marko is much loved by the fans. Nightwish were just lucky to have 2 very powerful vocalists.
As for what's next... there's a lot of things that come to mind. I might as well put some suggestions here: "Ghost River" from Waken - ua-cam.com/video/yT7jPHrTFZU/v-deo.html "Romanticide" from Waken - ua-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/v-deo.html "7 days to the wolfs" at Wembly - ua-cam.com/video/gwz2h3yH9Oc/v-deo.html "The Greatest Show on Earth" - ua-cam.com/video/SJepbPuqNU4/v-deo.html "The Poet and the Pendulum" - ua-cam.com/video/N4Vfy5yCy-c/v-deo.html "Weak fantasy" from Wembly - ua-cam.com/video/B69XNvtC1ic/v-deo.html "The islander" is a song where Marco is the lead vocal - ua-cam.com/video/ciLVx51IZjM/v-deo.html
@@Abigirl_Reacts just as an additional note to "The Poet and the Pendulum" - this song is very special and you should take a moment in beforehand(!) and get known to the context of the lyrics. It really really helps a lot in understanding what this is all about.
Welcome to my probably favorite song from NIGHTWISH when all is sung and done... Almost a guilty pleasure considering all the greatness that band name entails for nigh 3 decades. But that explosion of energy at the beginning had me glued to my speakers from the first listen, and I still consider this song irresistible. A perfect "entry song" into a band, if there ever was one, even for a non-Metalhead. There are songs by this legendary band that I treasure more, but this is just pure fun and passion. AND - for this night on record - Floor. What a charisma. From 8:10, there's no one overpowering her. P. S.: I did not mention Marko for his awesome co-lead duties that you are going to encounter more with time. He was/is a treasure. MARKO! (if you would like to explore some more instances of Floor (and Tuomas!) allowing Marko to shine, please check out "The Islander" Live from Tampere (it will be among the most beautiful songs you ever heard, and see just where Floor comes in...), or "Endlessness" (studio version, the Romantic philosophical doom masterpiece where Marko plays Father Time).
You noted some interesting things! The first one is the unsynchronized clapping. Just deal with it. Sound travels at about 340 meters per second, depending on many extraneous variables. In a venue as large as Wacken, this means that people more to the back are going to be hearing the clapping/the beat later than the people in the front, and if you are at the back and you take the acoustic cue you are going to be way too late, both visually and acoustically. The best way is to take your clapping cues visually, because light travels nearly a million times faster than sound. That way the clapping is visually synchronized, but the sound is not. For the people more to the back, they would have to clap before hearing the downbeat, which is actually hard to do because different parts of the brain are involved and most people overestimate their multitasking abilities. And the positioning of the audience reaction mikes is another factor influencing the final sound. Floor would probably not hear the acoustics because of her in-ears. The second one is in the balance between the voices of Floor and Marko. As I remember Everdream, it is basically a duet with more female front time so an equality in their volumes is ok with me. Now bear with me, what you are hearing is not what the audience at Wacken was hearing. All the different audio sources are sent to a mixing desk where the mixing decisions are made in real time. For a live DVD, all the individual audio streams are preserved, and remixed with video as the director intends. As a matter of fact, Marko usually involves himself with the audio part and he tends to make his voice and his bass sound great. Very human of course! Good job! Love to see more from you!
It did get a bit chaotic when Marko and Floor clash vocals near the end but i feel maybe it was intentional. We don't always know what goes through the mind of Tuomas how he writes songs and places feelings into the music. If you want to see other songs with Marko and Floor there is plenty but do Checkout Marko singing The Islander live. Thank you
Marko is one of the best singers in the world...having yhesec2 singers at the same time on stage isn't fair to all of the other bands....listen to him and Tarja sing The Phantom of the Opera live. It's the best version of that song ever. Marko has said that Floor is the only singer that he can't overpower. He really is a beast. They both growl by the way. The 2 of them are vocal monsters.
@Abigirl_Reacts ua-cam.com/video/3JFDULRj_gA/v-deo.htmlsi=Ar0L7O8n6EQo64kf Everyone will tell you the Hellfest or Deichbrand, etc .......but to me this is the best version , it's all recorded on a phone ( sounds great) and you get to sit right in front of Floor
1 min ago? I'm late!!! Long beard.. Marko Hietala.. harsher voice.. mainly bassist! Unfortunately not in Nightwish at the moment.. pursuing solo career and touring with Tarja Turunen(They will be at Wacken Open Air 2025)
The song was initially written for an operatic voice (Tarja). But it seems that classical singing is not much appreciated by Tuomas after he kicked her out of the band in 2005. Maybe that’s why Floor was belting it here. It would obviously have been much easier for her if she just dropped her larynx - and it would definitely not have sounded any worse because her head voice is gorgeous. I wish we’d hear it more in Nightwish, but alas. Totally agree with you that the backing vocalist should not overshadow the main one, although he has no doubt got quite a set of lungs on him.👍
Whenever you hear 2 singers in a nightwish song you always need to know who the speaker is in the part of the story and Nightwish loves to tell stories
I mean.... Marco was in the band long before Floor. To me, he's always been just as much a part of the band as any of the lead singers. He can sing as loud as he wants! lol
I never said he wasn't a part of the band, just that in this song Floor is the main singer so i don't think his volume should be louder than hers. He's a great singer!
I totally agree with your comment about the crowd clapping, as a performer myself it is difficult to, but if you look closely at Floor and the rest of the band, they are all wearing in ear monitors, for that reason I think, plus I think they use click tracks for the orchestration as that is usually recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra. Love your reactions.😁
If you eventually watch the entire concert (well worth it!) You will notice a young lady in the front row with ear plugs with a huge smile singing along to every song. She knows all the words, and looks like she is having the time of her life! Pretty sure she is shown at the beginning of Romanticide doing the traditional tongue out rocking out gesture. 😄🤘🏼
I would love to see a "where are they now?" documentary video on the crowd. After watching so many reaction videos the crowd become familiar. It's also fun when you see the same faces at different concerts in different countries
@ I’ve thought the same thing many times. The young lady was featured so many times in the concert videos, I’m curious to see if she is still a Nightwish fan
@@tcish4708 I had a crush on the smiley one on "Ghost Love Score". At the end of some reactions to "Song Of Myself" if the reactor left the video to run right to the end she looks directly at me through the camera and blows me a kiss! 🤣
That voice was Marko! Long white hair and beard - Marko Hietala. Marko recently said that the "Marco" spelling he used for Nightwish was the last lie that he told to himself. He was born with the K spelling and has gone back to it. K for King! Floor only said "start" a little softer... when you see Jukka tighten his bandana you know things are gonna get real pretty fast! Want to see just the guys of Nightwish perform? - "High Hopes" - ua-cam.com/video/4oEDnVeYYyM/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ediaz89
Floor is main face as vocalist, but not the only one. Marko has many duets with her and he is an actual legend in European metal scene, he has endless colabs with other bands since his 80s power voice complements so many needs. Try hearing Bye Bye Beautiful music video, Phantom of the Opera from 2005 or Wish I had an Angel from this concert, for full power. Or an absolute blasphemy The Islander, where Marko is main vocalist and Floor is backup with lower mic.
Great reaction Abi👍👍 Where much music (metal or other) can tend to be formulatic (guitar riffs and drum solos) Nightwish is anything but. Everyone does what is needed without having to be the “star”. Floor may be the front person and perceived as the star but she totally realizes and appreciates that it is the presence of all of them performing together at the very highest level that creates the Nightwish vibe and excellence. The juxtaposition of her insane range and presence and this bands hard hitting insane talent is incredible Absolutely kickass. 🤘🤘 (Shout out to Jukka in “Beast Mode” on the drum kit…….as usual🤘)
While I may not agree with your take on Marko's parts in this song, as I feel they add just the right amount of extra intensity and break up the repetitiveness of this song, I very much appreciate your honest reaction and feelings towards it. Keep up the great reactions. Saw someone recommended Ghost River from this show and I'd like to second that.
Dato curioso ella apenas ingresaba a ser parte de la banda formalmente y tuvo el mejor show de toda su carrera en mi opinión, saludos desde Republica Dominicana!
This guy is in fact the original and real star in this whole lineup. Floor is in fact a great, well trained, allround singer singer, a super professional. Loads of people like the combination of the two voices. I prefer the voice of this guy whats his name.................;-)
Hi Abi, greetings from UK That was another fantastic reaction, thank you 😉 Floor uses in-ear monitors so the crowd claps are probably filtered out/down
You'll see Marco also spelled Marko. Marco is the legal spelling of his name but he has also used Marko as a stage name. I think he stopped using Marko and just uses the legal spelling now. I just thought I'd mention because I see both spellings in the comments.
Ever Dream is a demanding song, and Floor has said she had to save some of the power for the rest of the evening. Maybe Marko sing a bit too loud of his part on this song, but in many other songs, they fit perfectly. You are the first one to mention this, but you might be right 🙂
Right! Just because i don't want Marco louder than the person who sang 90% of this song doesn't mean I think she's a solo artist! Thanks for your input ^_^
Great reaction AbiGirl's QUESTION🤨for the Nightwish army and interested parties, is there life without Nightwish🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 for me it has become a kind of lifestyle.
So many great songs and performances for you to watch. I’d recommend some of the following: Ghost River - Wacken 2013 Romanticide - Wacken 2013 Yours Is An Empty Hope - Wembly 2015 Poet and the Pendulum- Wembly 2015 ( but most fans will recommend you research the background behind this emotional song, before you watch it) Shoemaker - Hellfest Tribal- the compilation video released December 2023 Honestly so many great songs, General Gabriel’s list covers the vast majority of them.
Most of the songs sung by Floor alone. But sometimes she sings together with Marco or Troy. And sometimes Marco sings alone (High Hopes) or Floor as a background singer (While your lips are still red, The Islander - both only live) Great again… ❤
@@Abigirl_ReactsNo you weren't. You had a preconceived motion that Marco was just a backup and Floor was the typical lead. Not trashing or disrespecting but be honest.
Abi, you know, you're right...I've never actually realised that Marko was higher in the mix than Floor, considering that he is, as it were complimenting her vocal line. Well you learn something every day.
I totally agree that the audience is always off. I play drums and hate it. When ever I'm in the audience I can't clap because all others are all over the place. In the studio version Marko's voice is way too low but I love it in this mix. He does not overrule Floor. They complement each other perfectly in this mix. And in maaany other live songs.
This concert was from 2013 and in 2020 ( I believe ) Marco left the band for personal reasons, and is now playing with his own band! I love listening to his band, as they have a definite Led Zeppline vibe to his own music...which I love! Hey...I am 67 years old and Marco is in his late 50's, so a little bit of Led Zeppeline's style is normal! Check out Marcos song, " Left On Mars" featuring Tarja...Night wishes first lead singer.
@@Abigirl_Reacts Ge took a some time to recover and now he has his own old band and also making apperences with other artists . Smaller scale. He was so tired on the music industy
I think about Markos voice and the clapping have others said already all, just a few thoughts fom me. I think when you watch live performances with Tarja you will notice that she performs as a lead singer and the band is just accompaning her, Floor is part of the band. It may also have to do with her replacing Anette midtour, as Tuomas said the band was in survival mode at that time. As for the clapping, watch Blind Guardian The Bards Song and Valhalla at Wacken 2016. The first part is only acoustic guitars and singing, with some crazy meter changes within. So the crowd gets totally lost but the guitars are always on time. I think you have only reacted to live versions from Wacken 2013 so far, keep in mind that all of the songs there were written for the two first singers, so when you think her voice cannot surprise you any more, wait til you hear Yours Is An Empty Hope.
I think that Marko's tone was deliberate to give that shock effect. Check out Romanticide and Song Of Myself to see how they can blend. The Blond girl you pointed out, I think she is the one that was sat on someone's shoulders for the whole concert. Kudos for the guy who has the strength to do that and how did he see any of the concert himself. You noticed she had a ring but I'm not sure when she married Hannes van Dahl. Does anyone know whether she was married to him at the time of the Wacken show??
@@Abigirl_Reacts Floor & Hannes first met during a tour in 2014. Floor was already with NW but also still in her own band ReVamp. Hannes was/is Sabaton's drummer and both bands were support acts for Iced Earth. After the April 4th show at Grand Rapids, they sat down with some whisky, shared a cigar and their love for bands like Pantera. That's when Hannes decided he just had to marry her. In short: at Wacken 2013 she wasn't.
Good news Abigirl, you're right about Marko's microphone being a little loud, that happens sometimes but that doesn't stop Floor from standing out because she's the greatest singer in the world, a Goddess
Oh girl, this is still your third NW-song. You'll gone be surprised every next song. Keep on the NW-journey. But Floor solo (Beste Zangers performances) are also great to get know her total skills. Enjoy
The guy singing with Floor is Marco, who is playing bass guitar and is also doing vocals. Sadly he has left the band (understandable reasons, so no drama here) and now Troy (the multi-instrumentalist, playing Flutes, bagpipes and so on) is doing more vocal stuff. In Lanternlight for example, Troy is singing the male parts in the second half of the song. I have to admit, as i first heard the song, i felt a bit like you, thinking that he was a bit too loud compared to Floor. This feeling was also enhanced by the fact that in 08:50 she seemed to give him a look, saying "keep back a little, you are too loud". Because of that, i did not fell in love with "Everdream" immediately. However, after listening to many other songs with them singing together and getting used to Marko's voice and also knowing that he is basically a second singer and not your typical background singer, this song has now become one of my favourites.
the feeling you youngsters call chill's is a good thing, I get them all the time watching Nightwish. plus medically its a good thing too, especially for people like me who have trouble controlling body temp. WE NEED MORE CHILL'S.

I honor your opinion on Marko’s vocals in this song, but I actually real enjoy his strong sound in this song. I feel like the two of them sound amazing together.
Floor and Marco are two of the best together I've ever heard, over 60 here, so I've heard allot. Try a few more. Nightwish has an extensive catalog. And no need to just stay with Wacken 2013. Any of their live performances are offthe charts good. BTW love your reactions
I get your point that normally the lead singer is louder but if you do a lot more Nightwish, you will see that they don't follow rules. They try to break the norms and create experiences that you've never heard before. It takes a bit of getting use to but once you know to expect the unexpected, then you just smile when you hear something that is not "normal" and begin to appreciate it. On a side note, I don't think they view anyone above each other. They are all "instruments" themselves and used when needed to make the sound they want. You will find out that Marco is an amazing singer. So I look at it as two lead singers contributing to one song. There will be times that each of them is louder than the other.
Yes! Marco has been the second lead singer from 2001 to 2021. He is extremely good. You should check him out with Tarja of "Phantom of the Opera" or "High Hopes" both on the "End of an Era" concert.
Pretty sure that girl lived there - at Wacken. There's only around 9000 people who live in Wacken and they get free tickets (fair, how would you like your town turned upside down annually).
Marko is great too. the proof: "high hopes" ! a tribute to Pink Floyd that did Nightwish a long time ago. The video is not the best quality but sound yes. Take a look ;) !
Brilliant reaction, and really liked your comment on the crowd clapping, and Marko being vocally higher. If you get a chance, watch Devin Townsend, track is Deadhead, live from The Royal Albert Hall, around halfway through, your comment on the crowd becomes very pertinent.........you will see what I mean hopefully. Devin being Devin too as a response 😅
Thanks girl👍Unfortunately Marco is no longer with Nightwish, their harmony singing was great, now we have to do it with Troy, which is also nice, but unfortunately doesn't come close to Marco....
@Abigirl_Reacts he has recently been touring with Tarja Terrunen (the first singer with Nightwish) and released a couple of singles. He performs a lovely duet with her in the single Left on Mars. Worth checking out the music video! He also released another single Frankenstein's Bride which is a freaky amusing video with great music. Troy has a softer voice than Marko. He is a good singer in his own right though, although his main role is a multi-instrumentalist. He isn't in every song, but I see you have reacted to the new single Lanternlight, and he sings harmony in that. I haven't actually listened to that song yet, (shame on me ) but I heard him in a small clip when it was advertised. He has actually sang lead also, but lesser than Marko than Floor. (I don't know how much he sings on the new Yesterwyn albumn. I have it but yet to listen, aside from three singles released earlier. I'm going by previous songs here.) If you want to hear lovely harmonies with all three singers at once check out I want my Tears Back (Buenos Aires 2018 version. They sing it at this Wacken concert too, but Troy's voice is drowned by the others. Level is better at Buenos Aires .) The Carpenter (BA concert. Troy is co-lead with Floor on that one. Marko joins them.) My Walden (Wembley Arena or Tempere. Both good but theres an amusing bit at the start of the Wembley one.)
After you've gone through enough Nightwish songs, you'll hear Floor and Marko trading places as to who is dominating the phrase. It's just something they do. Floor is holding back a bit here in the middle of the song. As we approach the end, she begins to ramp it up. In some songs when they sing together, we barely hear Marko. It just depends on the song. Also their mic levels could be managed as well. Nightwish uses Pro Tools and all of the backing tracks, lighting and pyro are pre-programmed. I don't know enough about Pro Tools to know that a 2013 version could manage mic levels as well. It all could be pre-programmed that their mic levels are adjusted as to who is supposed to be lead.
I am not a Pro Tools expert, nor do I know anything about the 2013 version of the software. But here's my best guess. With Pro Tools you can record every incoming source (voice mike, instrument preamp line out, etc.) individually as a separate discreet track - essentially a board mix. Once you get the file back to the studio, you can digitally remix the raw source file, along with any post-processing needed to clean/clarify/balance the mix, to create release-ready material, . Make no mistake, Nightwish is an extremely good live band, I've heard them live three times. But they do sound better on released live recordings than actually live. Room acoustics almost always require compensation, even when recording outdoors.
Oh OK although I feel like even in the end when Floor was belting at her max, Marco still overpowered her. He's got some great pipes that's for sure, I just wanted his volume just a tad lower than Floor or Floor a tad louder since she sang the majority of the song.
@@tcish4708 Ya, I think that's important to emphasize that the mix for the DVD is not the same as the mix going to the soundboard and out the PA. The FOH will set up the levels for the venue, which will likely produce a poor DVD result. With each track recorded individually the band can optimize the mix for the DVD so they can play with the mic levels if they wished. I think it's important to state that Nightwish is on the record saying that they don't do any more than mixing and mastering with the live performance DVDs. They leave the mistakes and the rough spots in the DVDs.
Floor doing Floor things - exceptional as always. I think she has strings to her bow that you haven't heard yet. Wait until you react to "Yours is an Empty Hope" (I prefer the Wembley version). Cheers from Australia 🤘
😄 Hi, it is not FLOOR featuring NIGHTWISH, though we bow to our 😊 GODDESS , it is NIGHTWISH (Tuomas Holopainen 🙏). Thank you for your reaction; and you will (have to) learn about the unconventional unpredictable. 🤗 alex P.s. Lantern Light? Too soon. Opus Holopainen is not a random row of songs, but a story , a huge tapestry of images, that needs time. Also time to understand, who performes how and why. Sorry for my rubbish, just ENJOY!!!
Just remember, Nightwish is a BAND, not made for one. And everything in the performance happens for the reason. Floor is great singer, and she fits with Nightwish better than anyone else. At some point in this concert I think Floor ask sound guy to gain her microphone a bit.
I wouldn't say EVERYTHING that happens with Nightwish is for a reason. I'm sure it's possible to have technical difficulties with any band at some point!
@@Abigirl_Reacts Well almost, but yes, you are right. On live performance anything can happen. As I mentioned, Floor want more volume from her microphone. Cant remember what song. Maybe Romanticide. That you should listen next. You can hear Marko and Floor singing together.
@@Abigirl_Reacts yes he is. And Floor can sing with anyone. Amazing with Soilwork and Evergrey not to mention Ayreon and Star One plus her sister Irene.
Try Romanticide with the. Singing together or even better Ave Marie in three languages. Also check Marco when he is lead singer . . . Sadly he has left the band now.
They have in-ears, so they hear only what comes through the audio they choose to hear. They hear the croud only through the mics if turned to the croud. So in this case the croud clapping probably doesn't have affect on singing. This uis what I have heard of this.
My favorite moment in this song (apart from Floor): Tuomas' keyboard in the background ua-cam.com/users/clipUgkxg3fpOhwT3FyCzfKvpmco8SCWkqe1-O7V?si=p8tFEpQYOC22gWNz
Slaying the Dreamer and Gethsemane... Argentina Live ... 💜youre reactions, wacken is great, but Buenos Aires 2018 and the older songs that Floor is singing is...💜👌
Marco and Floor are a fantastic duet. Marco has said that when singing duets with Tarja and Annette he felt like he had to hold back so he didn't overpower them but with Floor he could sing at full strength.
Oh got it! Do you think he was at full strength here?
@@Abigirl_Reacts It's the climax of the song, so both singers were not holding back. And Marko is not just another backup singer, he is better than most front singers of other bands. Plenty of Nightwish songs have both Floor & Marko going back and forth (Romanticide, Ghost River, Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean, etc).
They'd co-lead singers. Marko has a great voice, and sings solo lead on a number of songs. The band lost a lot when he left.
First time seeing this request, thank you! ^_^
@@Abigirl_Reacts And High Hopes from End of an era A tribute to Pink Floyd
@@AndyMagnusson70 I concur!
@@AndyMagnusson70 And "Phantom of the Opera" also from End of An Era 2005, this time not with Floor but with Nightwish' first vocalist Tarja Turunen.
Thanks for your opinion
And the duet with Tarja "Nightwish - Phantom of the Opera(End of an Era)" is also still phenomenal.
you gotta check Ghost River!
First time seeing this request, thank you! ^_^
@@Abigirl_Reacts Do itttttttttt!!!!! Nowwwwwww!!!
Go live and dooooo iiiitttttt!! :D
@@Abigirl_Reacts one of their hardest and darkest songs.
Agreed, Ghost River is one of my favorites from this show (whom I kidding, EVERY single from this concert is a favorite.)
There is a part near the end of Ghost River where Floor is basically singing Acapella and it gives me chills, it’s soo beautiful and chilling.
And "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" - Live In Buenos Aires!
Marko said that he loves to sing with Floor because he is not overpowering her.
Yea Floor was definitely trying to hold her own there and she rocked it!
That ending with Marko and Floor belting together was magic in my ears. So I can't see or rather hear the issue. I have never hard two singers complement each other better than those two.
Yea they have a great sound together!
Oh yea, then those ear buds definitely help her. Especially if she's listening to a click track on there for tempo!
That's Marco Hietala... and he has some vocal parts but also some songs he sings by himself. Amazing guy! They do some amazing harmonies with Floor! :)
Oh, I'd love to hear some harmonies!
Check out Nightwish - romanticide
Added, thanks!
@@Abigirl_Reacts You REALLY do!
I disagree with your take on Marko's part in this, but I appreciate your honesty. Floor once called this her most difficult song to sing, because so much of it is very high in her range, and I think we can all understand that.
Oh for sure! It seemed like a very difficult song to sing. Thanks for your input ^_^
Actually, it's the high belting part that's difficult, not from the ability standpoint, but rather that she didn't want it to sound too thin. If she just went all head voice (like Tarja did with this song), then it would just be a cruise for her.
Woooo!, more Nightwish!
Yeeaaaaa!
Oh then yes that should definitely help with staying on beat hehe
Awesome, OK thanks for the suggestions! I value your input as well!
Also Marko singing Voice of my Father either in English or Finish one is as good as the other and very powerful
You are completely right. Marco Hietala has a very powerfull voice, and is a great singer, just like Floor, but who sounds "louder" in what you hear in your headphone is mainly the result of choices made by the mixing engineers.
Well said!
"The mixing engineers" - whom Marco was one of.😂 Perhaps that explains it?
@@noneofyerbeeswax8194 Hm, probably yes, but I tried to stay away from the politics of Nightwish...
Check out The Greatest Show on Earth - ( Live atTampere) and Islander - (Live atTampere).
I heard that's a long song!
I would recommend the Wembly live version of Greatedt Show on Earth, as the sound is much better in that video, especially Floor’s vocals. People like the Tampere version because of the fireworks, which personally I feel distract from the song audio.
@@Abigirl_Reacts it's all worth it!!
NW is about creating music together, everyone is equal, no one will be "the one" other than Tuomas maybe, doing what he loves and care about, which is storytelling music...
Sure I'll take equal! Anything is better than overpowering Floor's volume in my opinion. Thanks for your input ^_^
There song "Romanticide" from the same show the ending with Marco going full boar & Floor higher blowing everyone outta this world .
Can't wait to hear it!
more bore than boar though ;-) ... not implying that Marko is "boring" in any way.
LOL.
I didn't see it that way, that's funny haha
Although it's a live performance. This concert was recorded on Blu-ray. So, you are reacting to a song from the Blu-ray that has been mixed. People keep steering reactors to Wacken 2013 because it is said to be a perfect mix. I agree. I have never thought about the volume of Marko's voice and if it appears a little louder in this song then it's nice for him to get a little of the limelight. When they actually harmonize in songs it's marvelous. 😄🤘
I believe you!
Cheers!
Ok i will, thanks a bunch! ^_^
UH he sang a lot in Nightwish
@@aether13x69 Don't be dumb, you know what I mean. I meant as the LEAD singer. He is usually in a duet or harmonies in Nightwish.
🤘😊🤘
Marco was in a recent season of the Finnish version of The Masked Singer and won the season. He is currently doing a season of a Finnish show which is similar to the Dutch show Beste Zangers. It's a show where 8 singers sing the songs of one of the other singers. It's not a competition though. They just sing the songs. Elize Ryd, the singer of Amaranthe, is also participating in the show.
How interesting!
For me it's the combination of both voices that gives me chills - pretty much always when they are singing together. Until now I didn't even realize that he's louder in this song. So thank you for your point of view!
Thanks for watching ^_^
Nightwish were just lucky to have 2 very powerful vocalists.
hmm I wouldn't say I felt like Marco was taking over. He just needed a tiny mic volume reduction at that part but that's just how I feel ^_^
Just when I thought she couldn't get even more stunning she does wow wow thank for the reaction have an awesome night ❤❤❤

Thanks a bunch for your opinion and for the suggestions!
Thanks for your insightful comment and thanks for watching!
His name is Marko
Indeed ^_^
It did get a bit chaotic when Marko and Floor clash vocals near the end but i feel maybe it was intentional. We don't always know what goes through the mind of Tuomas how he writes songs and places feelings into the music. If you want to see other songs with Marko and Floor there is plenty but do Checkout Marko singing The Islander live. Thank you
Maybe they were meant to sound like they were dueling vocals there?
@Abigirl_Reacts Possibly?. When i think of Romanticide i always think like a couple having an arguement

Long beard.. Marko Hietala.. harsher voice.. mainly bassist! Unfortunately not in Nightwish at the moment.. pursuing solo career and touring with Tarja Turunen(They will be at Wacken Open Air 2025)
Oh i didn't know that, awesome!
Totally agree with you that the backing vocalist should not overshadow the main one, although he has no doubt got quite a set of lungs on him.👍
Oh for sure he does haha
Whenever you hear 2 singers in a nightwish song you always need to know who the speaker is in the part of the story and Nightwish loves to tell stories
Nightwish singers refer to them selves as Vocalist on a song not lead or background
Oh OK that's cool that's how they refer to themselves. I still consider Floor the main singer of this song because she sang 95% of it ^_^
Oh right, those ear pieces should really help with that!
If you eventually watch the entire concert (well worth it!)
You will notice a young lady in the front row with ear plugs with a huge smile singing along to every song.

Great reaction Abi👍👍
Where much music (metal or other) can tend to be formulatic (guitar riffs and drum solos) Nightwish is anything but. Everyone does what is needed without having to be the “star”. Floor may be the front person and perceived as the star but she totally realizes and appreciates that it is the presence of all of them performing together at the very highest level that creates the Nightwish vibe and excellence.
The juxtaposition of her insane range and presence and this bands hard hitting insane talent is incredible
Absolutely kickass. 🤘🤘 (Shout out to Jukka in “Beast Mode” on the drum kit…….as usual🤘)

Floor uses in-ear monitors so the crowd claps are probably filtered out/down

You'll see Marco also spelled Marko. Marco is the legal spelling of his name but he has also used Marko as a stage name. I think he stopped using Marko and just uses the legal spelling now. I just thought I'd mention because I see both spellings in the comments.
Good to know, take a bunch!
Marko is the real name. He earlier used stage name Marco but nowadays it's just Marko.
Ever Dream is a demanding song, and Floor has said she had to save some of the power for the rest of the evening. Maybe Marko sing a bit too loud of his part on this song, but in many other songs, they fit perfectly. You are the first one to mention this, but you might be right 🙂
Thanks for your input! Marco is an amazing singer though no doubt!
Remember, this is a band, not a solo artist. The band is not employed by her, she is employed by the band.
Right! Just because i don't want Marco louder than the person who sang 90% of this song doesn't mean I think she's a solo artist! Thanks for your input ^_^
@@Abigirl_Reacts I think we can still agree on one thing: They both are great singers!
Oh I 💯 % agree, incredible vocalists!!
Great reaction AbiGirl's
QUESTION🤨for the Nightwish army and interested parties, is there life without Nightwish🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 for me it has become a kind of lifestyle.
For me yes, there is life without Nightwish but that doesn't mean I don't love Nightwish!
@@Abigirl_Reacts I need Nightwish for the postive vibes.
So many great songs and performances for you to watch.
I’d recommend some of the following:
Ghost River - Wacken 2013
Romanticide - Wacken 2013
Yours Is An Empty Hope - Wembly 2015
Poet and the Pendulum- Wembly 2015 ( but most fans will recommend you research the background behind this emotional song, before you watch it)
Shoemaker - Hellfest
Tribal- the compilation video released December 2023
Honestly so many great songs, General Gabriel’s list covers the vast majority of them.
I have those on my list, perfect. Thanks!
Most of the songs sung by Floor alone. But sometimes she sings together with Marco or Troy. And sometimes Marco sings alone (High Hopes) or Floor as a background singer (While your lips are still red, The Islander - both only live)
Great again… ❤
That's awesome they all switch leads! Floor leads this one and she does a great job 🤘😊🤘
Marko was a lead singer of Nightwish too
Oh cool! I was just referring to this one song though ^_^
@@Abigirl_ReactsNo you weren't. You had a preconceived motion that Marco was just a backup and Floor was the typical lead. Not trashing or disrespecting but be honest.
Marko Hietala is lead singer band name Tarot. That band first Record release 1986
So impressive! 🤘😊🤘
Abi, you know, you're right...I've never actually realised that Marko was higher in the mix than Floor, considering that he is, as it were complimenting her vocal line. Well you learn something every day.
Yea I think a slight mic adjustment might be better, nothing too extreme though.
Oh as a drummer I'm sure you notice how off the audience was haha thanks for your opinion on Marko's volume here!
I will, thanks!
Marco singing here , but not with the Nightwish now ....
No? Who's he singing with now?
@@Abigirl_Reacts Ge took a some time to recover and now he has his own old band and also making apperences with other artists . Smaller scale. He was so tired on the music industy
Ouuhh ... lets get a ride. Nightwish once again. THANK YOU 🤘
Rock on!🤘😊🤘
I think about Markos voice and the clapping have others said already all, just a few thoughts fom me.
Can't wait to do that one!
I wanna know too! ^
I don't think so, I don't recall seeing a ring on her finger
Good news Abigirl, you're right about Marko's microphone being a little loud, that happens sometimes but that doesn't stop Floor from standing out because she's the greatest singer in the world, a Goddess
Agreed 💯 %! Marko is an amazing singer as well! They just needed to lower his mic juuuuuuust a little bit hehe
Oh girl, this is still your third NW-song. You'll gone be surprised every next song. Keep on the NW-journey. But Floor solo (Beste Zangers performances) are also great to get know her total skills. Enjoy
I'm sure i will, thanks!
There's no doubt Marco is a great singer!
you HAVE to do Escapist, it will blow your mind. By far the best Nightwish song.
Added, tyvm!
the feeling you youngsters call chill's is a good thing, I get them all the time watching Nightwish. plus medically its a good thing too, especially for people like me who have trouble controlling body temp. WE NEED MORE CHILL'S.
I'm glad Nightwish can help you with that! 💙
Love it! A Floor loyalist. Marko's parts are meant to be overpowering. Also, they mixed this live, so considering that the sound is just amazing.
Meant to over power Floor? That seems so silly to me considering i find her to be the main singer for this one!
What should you do next? Well, Wacken was an incredible concert, but it's important not to overlook their many other stellar live performances. My favourite is:
▪︎ The Greatest Show on Earth (Wembley, 2015) - ua-cam.com/video/qrMwxe2ya5E/v-deo.html
But I also like these:
▪︎ Last Ride of the Day (Vizovice, 2015) - ua-cam.com/video/kAFxLXqP8UM/v-deo.html
▪︎ The Islander (Tampare, 2015) - ua-cam.com/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/v-deo.html
▪︎ I Want My Tears Back (Buenos Aires, 2019) - ua-cam.com/video/TBOdgxjb0kM/v-deo.html
▪︎ Yours is an Empty Hope (Wembley, 2015) - ua-cam.com/video/vyLsU7Q333k/v-deo.html
▪︎ Tribal (montage from various shows, 2023) - ua-cam.com/video/FnMqKZ-Ojt8/v-deo.html
Hope this helps!
It helps a ton, thank you!
If you wish to hear Floor push herself, I suggest Shoemaker. Never fails to brings the waterworks to my eyes.
Oh wow that sounds amazing! I think she was pushing herself in this performance though. Marko just pushed harder =P
When Marko had some time on his hands, he entered the finnish Masked Singer to comletely destroying it!
I believe it!
I honor your opinion on Marko’s vocals in this song, but I actually real enjoy his strong sound in this song. I feel like the two of them sound amazing together.
No doubt that they do, for sure!
Floor and Marco are two of the best together I've ever heard, over 60 here, so I've heard allot. Try a few more. Nightwish has an extensive catalog. And no need to just stay with Wacken 2013. Any of their live performances are offthe charts good. BTW love your reactions
Thanks! I think they sound great together too!
Thanks for your input! I do look forward to reacting to more Nightwish soon ^_^
Yes! Marco has been the second lead singer from 2001 to 2021. He is extremely good. You should check him out with Tarja of "Phantom of the Opera" or "High Hopes" both on the "End of an Era" concert.
I will do so, thanks!
Pretty sure that girl lived there - at Wacken. There's only around 9000 people who live in Wacken and they get free tickets (fair, how would you like your town turned upside down annually).
Free tickets sounds like a fun time!
Marko is great too. the proof: "high hopes" ! a tribute to Pink Floyd that did Nightwish a long time ago. The video is not the best quality but sound yes. Take a look ;) !
I've no doubt Marko is an amazing singer, I complimented him a lot ❤️
Well well, try "Wish I had an angel" from this same concert. There is both Marco and Floor singing and I can promise it sounds amazing! 🥰
I believe you!
That's funny you mention that, I think my patrons members literally just picked Devin this week! Can't remember which song though.
@@Abigirl_Reacts Tis a rabbithole all of its own, just Devin in general.......in a good way of course 👌
Thanks girl👍Unfortunately Marco is no longer with Nightwish, their harmony singing was great, now we have to do it with Troy, which is also nice, but unfortunately doesn't come close to Marco....
When did Marco leave?
@@Abigirl_Reacts During covid
Oh man, I wonder what he's up to now? He's got an amazing voice
I'm going by previous songs here.)
If you want to hear lovely harmonies with all three singers at once check out I want my Tears Back (Buenos Aires 2018 version.
@@Abigirl_Reacts he does his solo stuff...and some collaborations with Tarja for example (they have been even touring together a bit now).
Haha, there's still a lot of Nightwish to discover. This rabbit hole is deep and you're not even in it yet. 😉
Can't wait!
You could do Nightwish “How’s the heart” then do the Acoustic version with just Floor and Troy . Back to back thanks
Great suggestion!
Floor doing Floor things - exceptional as always. I think she has strings to her bow that you haven't heard yet. Wait until you react to "Yours is an Empty Hope" (I prefer the Wembley version). Cheers from Australia 🤘
Can't wait!
I enjoyed it very much ^_^
Just remember, Nightwish is a BAND, not made for one.
I have noted that down, thanks so much for the suggestion! 🥰
Probably Romanticide at this concert even with Marko singing ! LOL
Marco is a great singer! ^_^
I heard he's working with Tarja now?
You should react to all the songs they did at wacken 2013……NW KILLED IT!!! My top props go to Jukka on the drums though, the guy is a machine!
I have noticed him, he's amazing!
They have in-ears, so they hear only what comes through the audio they choose to hear. They hear the croud only through the mics if turned to the croud. So in this case the croud clapping probably doesn't have affect on singing. This uis what I have heard of this.
True!
Lantern Light. New song. Basically just piano and Floor.
I did this one, it made me cry!
Wait till you hear Floor en Marko singing "Ave Maria" :-), perfect for christmass.
Ooh thank you so much. I'll note that down!
My favorite moment in this song (apart from Floor): Tuomas' keyboard in the background

Yea that was great!
You might try listening to "The Islander" from Tempere. Marco will drop your jaw to the ground.
I'm sure Marco is amazing! Never said otherwise. I'm definitely going to listen to that one soon though ^_^
If you like piano and little bit softer then you should check their last song from their last album - Lanternlight - something very-very special....
I've reacted to that one, it made me cry!
Slaying the Dreamer and Gethsemane... Argentina Live ... 💜youre reactions, wacken is great, but Buenos Aires 2018 and the older songs that Floor is singing is...💜👌
Good to know, thanks for watching!
Marko (Marco) Hietala makes his own music now.
Amazing, I'll have to check it out!
