  • Classic from 1984.
Twilight 22 was the creative moniker of Gordon Bahary. "Electric Kingdom" was Bahary's first solo recording. In an interview, Bahary related the story behind this song: "I took the most seemingly opposite elements: my father's middle eastern record collection, and a hip-hop/dance beat and combined them. Then I co-wrote a rap encouraging people to make a positive life for themselves I suppose." The song would go top 10 on the R&B charts and go down in the history of the electro genre.

Same! I was 13 when this song was recorded on cassette and blaring outta my boom box. In New Orleans we called them jam boxes. Speaking of boxes, I can still feel the smoothness of that cardboard laid out on the concrete! Parachute pants, bandanas EVERYWHERE, in all kinds of colors, yet not one of those colors signified anything. The only thing we were affiliated with was the music, the breakin, the graffiti writing, the fashion, the culture. I'd give up every modern technology and "comfort" if I could go back to 1984

With the North American merger, Electro became known as Electro-Funk or Electro-Boogie. In different countries the name changes, and in Brazil Electro-Funk was abbreviated just as Funk, serving as the name for the later strands of Electro. Abroad, this style is not recognized with the single term of Funk, especially in the countries that gave rise to Electro.

      Thanks my friend!
I miss them dance of Break dance battles, the energy and adrenalin running through my veins before the battle, our crew all pumped up and believing we are the best. The rivalry towards the other crews who stood before us, the focus of our minds, our masking of our excitement looking and being serious as fuck, waiting, waiting for the music to kick off, everyone twitching wanting to release this ever increasing energy and adrenalin and determination to bust the floor. ....Then the music kicks in big style and I burst into the circle with Top Rock and attitude, mocking the other side, to then bust my aerobic signature moves and burn around the floor like a lose firework!! Loved them special and unique times and the vibes created with music like this tune!

Back in school my brother Snake played in the band ( Drew High) and he use to rip this on the tritons. Right on his side playing bass were Odell and Bondell Willis. After the parades they would put on a show in front of the band hall.
