Where did you get 2026 for the Crosstown? You say it was originally slated to be completed in 2023 - it was supposed to be 2020 actually. The most recent report is that all the major work is completed (and you see that if you actually went down the line - there are no more traffic closures). They said that despite this, because of issues with the contractors they can’t announce an opening date - but will announce it 3 months beforehand.
The delays in the Crosstown aren’t due to the government so much as the incompetence of the private partners and their various subsidiaries.
Overall, we build way too much underground. If we build more grade separated - either elevated or at-grade - it would reduce rhetoric costs in future.

I meant to say 2025, but isn't the government responsible for their private contractors?

Too much population growth without proper infrastructure = pain and people getting fed up and leaving for greener pastures:/ I work right on YnE was having lunch at a Turkish restaurant and felt the vibration from the LRT going by underneath it is exciting we are getting close to launch date 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Is there a source for 2026? I've seen many articles that talk about late 2024

There is no source. It's false information.

Same thing with ottawa had a good transit way but needed a downtown tunnel. Why not either a downtown ottawa bus tunnel or heavy rail metro over going with the problematic ltr?

Yet there is not a word on the Eglington East LRT. The city approved some initial design work, but the province has no interest in providing transit to the (as far as the province is concerned) social housing ghetto in the east end of the city. They are content to continue with the dedicated bus lanes claiming it cuts the time by a significant amount. In fact, given the Scarborough subway impacts on traffic near Kennedy and the volumes of traffic in Scarborough it makes a few minutes difference. By waiting we will see the costs double pretty much every year until its in the hundreds of billions of dollars in 2050!

Yeah what I don't understand is how the plan was not in place for something they knew about for years.

The cross town ltr really needs to keep going east of kennady station asap

It’s actually impossible to do so. The crosstown tunnel is way too close to the new Line 2 tunnel.
You would think TTC and metrolinx would future-proof both tunnels to ensure both lines can intersect without issues. But nope.
If they ever build a Scarborough LRT, it will be a surface route with no tunnels and bridges.

@@alankingchiuyou can thank Metrolinx for changing the SSE to single bore tunneling. It seems that Metrolinx legitimately does not want the eastern portion to be part of the same line (there are legitimate technical and operation reasons to have it as a separate service, but it should have been kept as an option)

This wouldn't have been a problem if line 5 was extended on the line 3 corridor which would have terminated in malvern.

Should the ttc reopen all street car line which had been closed in the last 20 to 30years?

It would be nice. However some tracks don’t exist anymore. Doubtful if the governments will fund all that work. You can’t really cut ribbons for service improvements.

Grade-running LRTs are slow, unreliable and have low capacity. See the tragedy of LA Blue Line (formally A line). Suburban arterial roads (mostly stroads) can be suitable for LRTs/Tramways, but dense street like Eglinton should have grade-separated rapid transit lines like skytrain.

Why does scarboro seem to get treated like toronto's and the gta's step child and is decades behind expecially since the scarboro rt line?

    • @MER1978
      @MER1978 5 місяців тому

If the SRT had been built as a streetcar line.. which was the original plan.. it would have been much easier to upgrade and probably would have been running a great service with new streetcars for the last 5+ years.

Scarborough is a very spread out low density suburb.. there are really obvious reasons why even years of subway obsession nonsense didn't result in any construction for years.. it was and remains a colossal waste of money.

Totally agree that the grow mania needs to end. At least until things come back under control.
