RM Transit has about a dozen videos about GO expansion. it's not a new topic and will take a total of 35 years, we are currently in year 20 of the plan.
I'm surprised Go transit never moved to Build housing on this land until now. with the inflated market it seems like a easy sell to Make apartments with Ground floor shops like you see around lakeshore. These will Become great examples of the benefits of Densifying Key areas.
GO Expansion is one of the biggest transit projects in North America, it will take a while, but the benefits will slowly come in. (It won't be all at once like with a new subway line)
1:46 The tunnel connection at Bloor to connect the GO/Union Pearson Express station to the subway has been talked about for several years now. I will believe it when I see it.
@RMTransit has been providing great in-depth coverage of transit projects across the GTA and around the globe. Highly recommend subscribing to his channels.
We have so many great transit UA-camrs in Ontario /Toronto region, they should be brought front and centre, far better informed than traditional media.
Building bike paths are great but we have been building incredibly unsafe bike paths, they really need to have some kind of grade separation from the road.
even worse: There is a sidewalk up behind the fence, which will probably almost never get used. Just build that as a multiuse path (as Europeans ALWAYS do out of town) and you have the safest option possible.
They NEED a line that goes through Bolton and on to Alliston. That there is no coverage, except busses, between Georgetown and Barrie is a HUGE region with lots of people in it. Secondly they should make a line that goes E-W from Markham to Hamilton. GO is a two way trip, the best systems are more networked. Thirdly, They need to get trains to Peterborough, just like Kitchener. Fourth, it is too bad that they didn't just use GO trains to return rail service to northern Ontario. Now, they are saying its going to be a night train and its taking too long. Or at least run the GO trains until the other stuff is done. Six, They should make a Tim Horton's care near the middle of the trains. They'd make a fortune. I travelled on GO for 12 years to work and I loved it; so professional. Now, that I am retired and have moved away, I miss my daily train trips to be sure. We are so underserved in Ontario with transit given the number of cars on our roads, I wish they would just borrow the money and BUILD it and do so, much faster than the decades it seems to take right now. If they could build the Alaska highway in 18 months back in 1942, why does it take 13 years to renovate Union Station? Work 24/7 and get it done. The roads are as wide as they can be and so the only way to handle congestion is to get cars off the roads. To do that we need to give folks much better, convenient options. If the protected cycling trails/routes actually went somewhere instead only in parks and that includes York Region etc. More folks than one might think would cycle to work if they were not risking their lives on roads filled with cars. Bus/bike lanes don't work as you are probably more likely to be killed by a bus driver. They can't see you and many of them are pretty aggressive drivers. With electric bikes etc. this option is becoming available to those who are not athletes.
In NYC's suburbs the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad have offered this service model for over 100 years. Go should have started bi-directional service back in the 1980s or 90s. By then the population warranted such an expansion, and this is 30-40 years too late IMHO. I've ridden on numerous local rail services in Europe and they're all bi-directional/frequent service; think Paris' RER, Munich's S-Bahn and the efficient rail networks in Helsinki and Prague.
Great news. The entire province should be connected. Please do something about Northern Ontario as well. Brampton needs another GO Station as well in the East End.
@@Mystro256 the problem more exists with CP not being as willing to with go to build along their corridors as CN, same exists with the midtown corridor which has huge potential but just can't be obtained unless we give them some offer they can't refuse kinda deal

Would be nice if we had decent service to London. We have over 400,000 people and only 180 km away. Small compared to GTA but could still be sustainable.
How much does a pedestrian tunnel cost? Is it possible to make a cyclist tunnel similar to the pedestrian PATH in Toronto? I am proposing a CYCLE-PATH for cyclist be considered each time there is a proposal to make some kind gigantic transit tunnel to connect people from place to place. The CYCLE-PATH could run parallel to TRANSIT LINE.
Toronto's history of density is vastly different and younger than London. The density within Toronto proper versus its outskirts simply didn't exist in nearly a comparable way to London through most of the 20th century. That being said, the political appetite - and weakness - still persisted and hadn't evolved through the late 20th century leading to total missteps and cancellations, leaving Toronto with a wide gap in lost opportunity from the 90s. That's what's catching up now.
@@carlinthomas9482 Terrible idea. Just model it based on having a good system that doesn't only do suburb to downtown trips but also suburb to suburb trips.

This is all happening thanks to the Ford government. I don't drive and in the 1990s spent a year in Europe where the rail system in particular was efficient and convenient to use. There was a local LRT and bus system that could essentially be used on the honour system, there was an expensive monthly pass but you could basically just get on and off without the operator asking. When I got back I wondered why we couldn't have it here, why the GO system in particular continued to be so limited. And I kept waiting through 15 years of Liberal misrule and virtue-signaling. Finally we have a provincial government that's getting it done.
I thought we were worried about global warming and the environment, I guess when it comes to makeing people rich adding thousands of diesel engines are the way to go, not electrifying the lines, some ones getting rich here
It's not mentioned in the video, but electrifying the main lines is part of this plan.
