Stan, just came across your videos and have to say that your drum sounds are fantastic. Great fat punchy bass drum and beautifully articulate snare sound , your toms are exceptional too. Same with cymbals! I have heard a lot of videos and your entire kit sound just nails it!!! Great job!!!
I have five different 14” cymbals. Three were designed specifically as parts of hihat sets, the other two I don’t know. I mix and match them according to the gig. The Zildjian NewBeat pair work for any ‘pop’ type music that requires a sharp, precise sound. For ‘smooth’ jazz the top of the NewBeats becomes a bottom for a thinner top - and that top becomes a bottom for an even lighter, darker cymbal for bebop jazz.
Nice! Great playing, by the way. Those hats are 'crisp' and really cut through. I've been punishing my 14 and a quarter K Zildjian Custom Hybrids since the late '80's and they're still rock solid. You could probably run over them with a truck with no ill effects but they also speak softly.
I was huge on Carter and DMB growing up too, Stan. Remember meeting Carter and the band when I was 15, and got him to sign my Under the Table and Drumming VHS :) If I'm not mistaken Carter used or still uses (?) a combo of A Custom and K Custom hats, no? Interesting to see you using two bottom hats given how thin the original top one was. Your stick articulation always souns so dope with amazing definition but that snare sound though!! Damn! Cheers!
Hi Stan! Do you have any opinions on 13"s? I'm currently running the Meinl Byzance Serpents which are reversible and I love the bark and articulation. Great playing as always, hats sound killer! I'd love to try the 20" XIST Dry someday. Love your work!

@@veronicaroberts8250 thanks Veronica, I appreciate it. And thanks for taking the time to check the videos out. :)

Maybe the perfect cymbal series. Dark but cutting, and harsh in the best way possible
