Then he met the officials and asked US asylum which he was sent to Ankara to get to the US consulate. USSR warned Turkiye to return both the pilot and the MIG. Turkiye accepted to return the MIG but not the pilot according to the international law. US asked Turkey to investigate the MIG and not return to the Soviets. Turkiye refuses that but Turkiye investigated the MIG on her own. The MIG was disarmed and sent back flying.
