I'd love to see you guys try out old-school equipment that (more or less) actually works as intended. The cheapo gimmicks are hilarious - I think we all had a parent or aunt/uncle who bought the Thighmaster or the Torso Trimmer - but it'd be fun to see the primitive beginnings of machines, weights, pulleys, etc. of things still in use today... or things that WOULD still be in use today if they hadn't just fallen out of style, but still work just fine.
Good rule of thumb: any fitness program or product that promises fast and easy results, versus putting in lots of hard work, sweat, and discipline, is probably bullshit.
Yes you do but the rate at which you recover and build muscle makes it much easier to stick to it. It's the same as being good at a sport if you keep succeeding you keep trying to get better. If you struggle and you realise you do not have the talent and mindset for that particular sport you will stop. Even though with enough hard work and dedication you could reach a very high level. That's why people get addicted to HRT's that feeling you get of progress gets you out of bed and working even harder.
Just want to say I enjoy watching you guys with your significant others. You guys look like a happy family and it's fun seeing you all having a good time.
I'm at the age in life where I've used a few of those things, so pardon my melancholy as I ponder the word "vintage." But as for the devices? One of my sisters had the Twist device. I recall getting a good sweat from that, but it was hard to do for more than a few minutes because you would get dizzy. The pulley contraption you have was marketed on television around 1975 or so as the Dyna Trimmer. We had two of those over the years as a kid. You hooked it up to a door knob and put one group of handles on your feet and another on your hands. As you lay on your back, the thought was that you would use your arm strength to lift your leg. The problem, of course, was there as nothing to stop you using your leg muscles to do the lifting. Same problem with most of its variants. Thighmaster was sold on infomercials with Suzanne Somers of "Three's Company" fame. I know women who used it and liked it. There are similar machines in my gym.
As soon as I saw it, I thought of South Park and the Calf Exerciser - Butters thought it'd make the baby cows strong because Suzanne Somers said it would! =)
i remember some of these from my childhood (in south east asia) and now i'm a personal trainer. looking back with the knowledge i have now, i can already tell how nonsensical these things are. but the sad thing is you still get variants of these nonsensical exercise equipment being sold today and they are marketed as fast and easy way to target fat loss. just a couple of years ago i came across a gym that does the same electrodes method but the difference is that you for eg.. u hook up ur biceps with the electrodes, while you do a bicep curl. there's another one that christiano ronaldo (famous footballer) was sponsored to advertise where u place it on ur abs and it works its magic. it was called the SixPad.. by a company called AIBI. other popular equipments (which tbh i'm not sure how scientific it is) like babywaist requires u to apply some sort of gel on your core before you wear a really tight belt around your waist and workout. also of course there's fat burning creams that help you target fat loss (which we know the only way to target fat loss is liposuction and any other way isnt scientifically possible). would be nice if you gave these modern equipments a review with some scientific education to educate the public.
As I also remembered my mom using this in the 90s, I looked it up and the ThighMaster was actually first released in 1992. So I don't think it's a case of a product arriving late in Europe.
Loving the vintage series. Can you somehow do a vintage protein shake review? I remember Joe Weider’s “Dynamic Muscle Builder” protein powder (and more) back in 1987.
Back in the 60's I ordered a genuine paper weight from a comic book. Arrived two weeks later, was a genuine brass knuckles 🧐 I'm digging you guy's dating game music 👍💯
The Target in the middle of the Twist and tone is to actually use for target practice once you realize that it doesn't work and that it's just a big POS.
My first piece of workout equipment back in the 80s was a bullworker. It was actually pretty good! The early models tended to work using isometric exercise. The later models used concentric and eccentric movements. Anyone know if they still make these?
This is so awesome! I love the addition of the ladies to try some of these out, it makes sense. I remember my mom having the Thigh Blaster by Suzanne Sommers (the pink clip thing) and after a couple of weeks, it was tossed to the side and later given to one of my cousins who wanted to lose weight. I've heard of none of the rest of these, except the Relax-a-ciser. That's just an early form of a TENS Unit. Great job, great laughs, I look forward to the next in the series. Stay safe and healthy and have a peaceful evening. YATS FFUB!
You guys should probably ALSO be making small commercial blurbs for products...the examples in this one was hillarious ! Also fun to see some 80s aerobics looking gear...though the guys got off easily from that :)
9:20 Actually my mom (Belgium) also had one of those in the 90s! So Poland is not 20 years behind (unless if Belgium also is but we were doing well until before the 21st century).
I'm 41 and I remember playing with the rope and pulleys one when I was a small kid we had it hooked on the door handle it would have been really early 1980s in Australia.
Hi dudes. Love your videos. I only have a barbell at home with few plates. Can you please make a video about barbell only at home exercise? I mean I know some of the exercises like squats and goodmornings, floor press etc.. but It will be more interesting to hear your routine, reps, should I do it everyday etc...would be great! Thank you
My mom had the Thighmaster! We also had the Abdominizer that was like a plastic thing you lay on to do crunches. Great video guys, really enjoyed it! Stay Buff!
Tried to post a pic but I want to see you guys test this. It has a handle bar on on end and a place to slip your feet in the other. Both were between a spring or coil. The coil was the resistance.
I had the torso trimmer but now it's marketed as a portable resistance band gym. I used it while doing calisthenics in my hotel room when I used to travel for work. I eventually got real resistance bands and a jump rope when the toner got stretched out
Not only do I want you guys to try out more stuff like this, I want you to include the women in more of your vids - it's fun to watch you guys have fun together. =)
The BullWorker was great. Used it as a kid and in camps in the Army. Although I was much stronger, that thing was versatile and could make you work up a sweat and actually built muscle if you worked it continuously, like supersets. It worked for me but I used it to exhaustion.
LOL, I was thinking about that too. A buddy of mine had one in 78 while we were in high school. Kinda like the Bow Flex which ends up being a good place to hang clothes. At 60 I work out more and consistent with free weights and love it.
The Bullworker still exists in various forms I have seen a lot of stores sell some of their equipment and as far as I know the company is still operative.
I remember seeing the thigh blaster when I was younger. The electric thingy has been advanced and is more of a massager. I've used the modern version once and it was kinda cool.
Thanks for the laughs lol. I think Susan Sommers did the commercial for the thigh master lololol. You forgot that spring bar thing thats in the pics with Arnold bending it.
Thanks folks love your video s tried many weird exercises and. Eqip over the years and they are still selling. Apart from you no body seems to remember. Progressive resistance training
You're right. No matter how much knowledge there is out there, there's always going to be that group of people looking for the quick fix. And as long as they're out there, there will always be a company getting rich off of those people.
I remember Suzanne Sommers and her Thigh Master commercials. I just remember her yelling while dressed in 80s leotards lying on the ground, “And one, and two, and three” white pumping her thighs. Hilarious! I loved this one. Keep it up 👍
You resurrected an old memory for me. I think my grandma had one of those pulley things in her laundry room and I used to play with it. Seemed silly even as a kid.

Good rule of thumb: any fitness program or product that promises fast and easy results, versus putting in lots of hard work, sweat, and discipline, is probably bullshit.
Probably?
"probably"?
Except anabolics lol
Even with roids you gotta work, sweat and be consistent

Imagin flipping upside down with this in the water. You would drown very horribly.

I remember the thigh master and I'm only 35. Of course Suzanne summers was on my mind alot back then as a lil tween.....
I like that Aga seems to be getting more comfortable in front of the camera! Good job dude! Acting can be daunting, and you're doing a fantastic job
This was a fun video guys!!! Love to see more like this!
Thanks Ezzy!
You guys crack me up! It's so cool to watch your family grow through the channel. Thank you for the great content! Stay Buff!
I'm from Poland and when I saw Tigh Blaster I thought "oh, I remember that!" , and then she said the same :D

I bought the thigh blaster in 2008-2010 can't really remember

The same with the particular product, but a better thing is, I heard the girl's English the first time and I knew she's from Poland XD
Appreciate you all still making content with everything going on, stay safe, and STAY BUFF!
I love your guy's videos! It would be cool to see you guys do a video about Martial arts workouts it can be fun! 💪🏼
Haven’t been this early since Protein Sludge was made in the original Buff kitchen. Solid content as always, Buff Dudes!
Loving the vintage series. Can you somehow do a vintage protein shake review? I remember Joe Weider’s “Dynamic Muscle Builder” protein powder (and more) back in 1987.
I’m not so sure I’d be too keen on taste testing a 34 year old protein powder.....
Geez I remember the cable trimmer thing from the 70’s. Hooked it on a doorknob and went to work.
Back in the 60's I ordered a genuine paper weight from a comic book. Arrived two weeks later, was a genuine brass knuckles 🧐 I'm digging you guy's dating game music 👍💯
Haha, that's hilarious! Talk about getting more than you originally imagined.

"What, these knuckles won't hold down paper? Of course it's a paperweight!"
"Strap it on honey."

My thoughts exactly! Pretty bomber that it didn't have a bow and few arrows with the package.
