Just recently found your videos and I’m so glad I did. Videos like these make me feel less alone. You speak on these subjects in such an eloquent way. Thank you for sharing your stories.

I cannot thank you ENOUGH for this video. It is exactly what we, who suffer from any mental illness, have to struggle with daily. WHY on Earth people think mental illnesses are different from any other physical illness? If you are ill, you go to the doctor and you take your meds. Obviously, there is no cure. But meds, such as antidepressants or anxiolytics DO REALLY HELP. I mean, I am on xanax 0.5 three times a day and I really need it even tho most of the time is not enough still, which is really frustrating and I may have to up the dosis or try another one. I instantly notice when the effect is going away, 'cause my nervousness starts to appear out of nowhere.
And, as a person with IBS as well, I can totally confirm that anxiety meds is what helps me THE MOST with IBS. No diet changes were enough or relevant. Absolutely not. Even my gastroenterologist told me. And IBS issues really made my anxiety worse ('cause I couldn't go to class calmly, my stomach would be making weird noises all the time, I panic everytime there is silence around me, I feel like my heart racing so fast...). So, yeah, that is the best solution for us. It really sucks when people try to tell you "simply chill, buddy", "it is in your mind, you have to control it". No, man, I don't have the same balanced brain that you have and meds are the only thing helping me right now. We shouldn't be ashamed because of that. So... THANK YOU.

Thanks for speaking out about this! Recently an old friend told me I would be free of anxiety and depression if I just did her special diet...like I haven't heard that before...YES this one is very hurtful to me bc they are saying they believe mental illnesses only exist bc of poor diets. WHAT? Thanks for addressing this misconception 😃😊❤️❤️👍

This video was really great :) I have bipolar so i take an anti-psychotic medication but that doesn't mean i am psychotic. It's interesting how people think that the title of a medication is all it is used for. I love your videos they make me feel so calm, thank you :)

Antidepressants have really helped me, after changing from fluoxetine to citalopram, and they’ve helped me recover. The only thing is I’ve always felt quite uncomfortable that most people don’t take pills everyday. I really wish I’d realised this sooner, but the thing that antidepressants do is to more or less give you the right amount of chemicals most people already have. It’s literally like ‘if you can’t make your own buy some’. Like ‘here’s some I made earlier’. I think doctors prescribe fluoxetine because they’re the only ones they can prescribe to young people and citalopram as a last resort. Only after getting sectioned was I allowed to take citalopram.

Thank you. What a thoughtful video.
I have depression and was first prescribed citalopram. It also made me sleep a bit more but it didn't help with my mood. Now I've been on sertraline for a few months and am waiting to see results.

Honestly, I'm not going to bash on anti-depressants, it works for some people.
But I've had some bad reactions to all sorts of anti-depressants and it makes me not want to take any more of the stuff (one gave me suicidal thoughts and it put me into a panic attack, these thoughts still affect me, but my therapist and doctor agree that I will never act on them cause I fear them).
My anxiety has been really really bad the past few months due to all this(and I've always had most control of my anxiety).
Just gotta get through this time in life and work with my therapist

You mean green tea can't cure anxiety :). The way I look at it is...anti-depressants are just one tool in my anxiety toolbox. The other tools are...self-therapy - meditation - diet - exercise & doing at least one thing per day that I'm anxious about. Oh, one more thing...time. That's the hardest part.

I have been put on fluoxetine for my anxiety and it has really helped. Fluoxetine is the main one they like to give to the younger population
