- Zoo Med's PowerSun® High Intensity Discharge (H.I.D.) is a Metal Halide lamp which emits UVA, UVB, and heat all in one lamp! This High Output UVB lamp is perfect for large habitats. The proprietary Zoo Med lamp construction creates a true flood-lamp effect, eliminating dangerous UV "hot-spots" common to other metal halide reptile lamps.

Awesome video! I'll definitely consider buying this for my water dragon!
170$ is kinda insane for the combo but it looks really good for the largest species of lizards.
Whats the difference between this and the powersun mercury vapor bulb
The PowerSun H.I.D. has a longer output range for especially tall habitats. See our lighting care guides for more details:

Would these be good lights for Nile Monitors?
Could be! Really depends on the enclosure size and how it is set up. See our product page for height recommendations and more details: zoomed.com/powersun-h-i-d-combo/
So my Veiled chameleon loves free range set up because he loves to look out from the window. He only goes in his cage to warm up and comes back out. Would you reccomend to buy this one for my free range set up. ??
All of our products are meant to be used in an enclosed and controlled space like a terrarium or enclosure. I can't safely recommend its use in a 'free range' scenario without firsthand experience of the area.
Can you use a non zoomed brand bulb in this fixture, like megaray and power under 70watt.
We can't guarantee the quality of the bulbs, but if it fits the lamp and it's the appropriate wattage, it should work.
Hope that answers your question.
Are you guys going to get rid of the power Sun the old one and make the new one a little cheaper
No, we have no plans to retire either version at this time.
Just got one for my aldabra. the ballast keeps making noise. is this normal

Yes, the PowerSun HID Fixture is specifically calibrated to handle the PowerSun HID Bulb.

Can this lamp plug into both 110V and 220V power outlet?
As with all Zoo Med electrical products, you'll want to make sure you're purchasing the product in the same region you plan on using it. Doing so should guarantee you're receiving the appropriate voltage for your region's standards.
Hope that helps.

I am making a living Savannah naturalistic terrarium for a red ackie monitor. Would a h.i.d in the middle (length-wise) and center (depth-wise) for 27" wide by 72" long by 27" high with a screen top and screen front. The substrate surface being 12" from the top and basking spot being 6" from the top, but with h.i.d hanging about 6"-12" from top so it would 18-24" from the substrate and 12"-18" from the basking spot. To provide all uvb they need thru the metal screen without overdosing, and provide a basking spot of 90-104 f with surface of 120-140f and ambient temperature of around 75-80f .
Also is changing the distance and wattage of the lamp the only way to control the lamp, or can pulse thermostat or any thermostat control it?

What zone for a tegu?
Depending on the species, a Tegu could probably do well between Zone 2-3, but a well-structured habitat will allow the ability for your pet to move between multiple zones and self-regulate their exposure.
Always measure your habitat's UVB reading and adjust accordingly for the best and safest results.
Hope that helps.
getting one
How about a tegu
It is so expensive compared to your old one
Our original PowerSun is still available. This is just a specialized, more powerful one for especially large habitats.

I do not recommend getting this item. These have VERY bad ballasts. I know many reptile owners that have this fixture and that their bulbs are turning pink which is caused by the ballast which means the curcuit is overflowing.
I'm sorry to hear you've had trouble with our bulbs. All PowerSun H.I.D.s include a 1 year warranty. Please reach out to our Customer Service and they should be able to help you in more detail. They can be reached at:
