I don't see a problem with the new land ownership law. It makes a lot more sense. Land in Vietnam is very valuable and reserved to only Vietnamese citizens. It only means the Vietnamese government is looking after their citizens first. I don't see what's wrong with that. Also, foreign buyers can be risky for the country. Look at Vancouver, Canada for example. A lot of Chinese investors came in and jack up the price to 3 times, making it very hard for the locals to buy in. A lot of the locals are now homeless or can't afford to rent. I welcome this new Vietnamese land ownership law as it protects the locals. I don't see any complexities here. The way you described it makes it very simple to understand this new land ownership law and not very confusing at all.

Ken, can a Westerner become a VN citizen, and if so will this be exclusive to VN by revoking other citizenship? If a VN born citizen live overseas are they classified Viet Kiew?
Honestly speaking, i don't see the hoo haa here and Ken... as a Viet Kieu yourself, I don't think you can really identify yourself as fully Vietnamese Vietnamese unless you relinquish everything western and go back to being everything Vietnam - if you know what i mean. The policies that the govt make SHOULD always favour and protect the locals, this is common sense in protecting sovereignty. As a westernised citizen yourself and me coming from a "democratic society", I think being "critical" of these policies makes little sense - whether we are Viet Kieu or not. These policies are all implemented to ensure Vietnamese have full rights and access - and if these "foreigners" find it hard to dump their "westernised" Viet Kieu values and status, then don't go back to Vietnam and whine! So you're right to say if Viet Kieus want the full benefit of being Vietnamese, then be a real Vietnamese - which also means other than getting back your Vietnamese ID (identity as a local) you must accept the flaws and shortcomings of the Vietnamese govt. Remember these laws will benefit 95m Vietnamese in the mainland rather than the remaining 20% diaspora anywhere in the world. I don't think the policy is complicated or in any sense confusing. Vietnam is doing a good job with this... and this will prevent themselves from being sold out or exploited like Cambodia or more recently Thailand does - influx of foreign ownerships in properties that contributed very little to the society and economy.
Can foreigners get Vietnamese citizenship? I.e not viet kieu? I’m Irish, and any citizen of any country can get Irish citizenship and passport if they live and work in Ireland for a certain amount of time.. does Vietnam offer the same ?
What is the situation for foreign spouses whose Vietnamese partner passes away? For example, would my wife's land pass to me, or would I have no capability to receive it?

Hum “bureaucratic “ for sure when dealing with the Viet money mentality, while there are better world of land also out there
Can foreigners get Vietnamese citizenship? I.e not viet kieu? I’m Irish, and any citizen of any country can get Irish citizenship and passport if they live and work in Ireland for a certain amount of time.. does Vietnam offer the same ?
Okie.. just curious.. have you become a Vietnamese citizen Duong?
Yes, attorney Ken explained how he got his Vietnam passport in an earlier video.
What is the situation for foreign spouses whose Vietnamese partner passes away? For example, would my wife's land pass to me, or would I have no capability to receive it?
That is an issue as well. Depends on your case and how the will is drafted.
That means when I return to Vietnam I only get a slice of pepperoni.
Plenty of pepperoni here why eat pepperoni in vn? Go for pho lol
Why are viet kieus so intent on buying with so much hassle and risk? Rent is dirt cheap and headache free.
If Singaporean wants to buy a house for Vietnamese wife which never changed her passport so if property agent happy to see 90% of Singaporean home buyer background not to Singaporean husband but for Vietnamese wife name only for my retirement plan but cash still flowing from Singapore soils but to live together on my retirement age.
Awesome Ken !!

Most of the time, the answer is no unless the criteria as explained in the following video are met: ua-cam.com/video/EVAXVa6p56k/v-deo.htmlsi=qJflvM49TbHZ4MBk

Hi I am Viet Kieu but has vietnamese passport and also CCCD. I have been living in. Vietnam for the past 3 years. My cousin wants to sell me a peice of agriculture land (Dat nong dan). Am I able to purchase it legally under the new law? Thank you. Love your channel!!
You have CCCD and Vietnamese passport; thus you are legally a Vietnamese and should be treated as any other Vietnamese. So what stops a Vietnamese from buying property in Vietnam? Just try to understand your concern.
As you have citizenship, sure, you can buy it.
Thank you guys one lawyer in Vietnam said even if I have CCCD and VN passport i am not treated the same because I am still a Viet Kieu since I still have US citizenship. Confusing :/
It is an idiotic statement that has not legal ground.
@@nbrian424you can buy.
