- Here's a commercial for a great magazine - Games. I used to love this magazine.
Note: This is to replace an earlier, now broken (unplayable) video posting, preserved as an unlisted video here to save the original comments: • [broken] Games Magazin... )
This aired on local Chicago TV on Wednesday, August 13th 1980 during the 11:00am to 12:00pm timeframe.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help!
Breaking out a magazine at a party really gets the fun rolling!
I had a subscription for years - heartbreaking when the first run ended
Same
What year did it end if?!
@@NEO91154 Games was originally published by Playboy, debuting with the September/October 1977 issue. It was acquired by PSC Limited Partnership in 1987, briefly out of business in 1990 (after PSC filed for bankruptcy), and brought back to life in 1991 by the Manhattan-based mail-order company "Bits & Pieces". Kappa Publishing Group acquired it in 1996 and moved the Games office to Kappa's headquarters in Pennsylvania.
@@NEO91154 I believe in 1990, although it came back a year later.
As soon as I saw that GAMES font all my memories of being a kid at the grocery store came flooding back.
always next to OMNI Magazine lol
...and still going strong, again, as GAMES World of Puzzles 😍
They could just republish every issue again and I probably habe forgotten all of it and I'll just play them again amd again
When magazines ruled the world.
As OMNI is being mentioned…. I’d forgotten I won a Games Magazine puzzle in my youth - but the puzzle was from an ad in Omni. I was SOOO excited at the time.
The pure FFFUN and FFFAAAscination of gAMES...

1:26 The fact that I immediately knew that was a rotary phone dial makes me feel positively ancient.
Don't worry. Yesterday the news said the police officer who pulled over Justin Timberlake was so young he didn't know who Justin was. The point is: a whole new generation is rapidly feeling ancient too!
People used to be smarter
By what metric are you judging this?
@@user-dc1dr9kr8x Just look around and count how many people are staring down looking at their phones instead of looking at you while you're talking at them.
@@user-dc1dr9kr8x your question is the answer.
Being able to recognize some pencils = 10 TRILLION IQ!!!!!!!!!!!
@@user-dc1dr9kr8x Average IQ, common sense and activities in which they engaged such as this. Literature, music, art. By the way they articulated thoughts and communicated with one another.
Who's throwing these swanky parties with people throwing brain-teasers around and how do I secure an invitation?
GOODBYE CONFUSING SEVENTIES
How long this magazine lasted
As far as I know the current iteration is still being published. I haven’t picked up a copy personally for a a few years
@@briangillespie1914 Yes - still being published as "Games World of Puzzles" by Kappa Publishing.
Never heard of Games Magazine
