I have had three copies of The Jazz Singer on DVD. One was the original…then my Son bought me the Anniversary Edition. Wore that one out and replaced it. Watching it never gets old!🔥❤️💎
Why this song from this movie was never made into a single like many others from this film I will never understand....This is one of the best Neil Diamond songs ever!!
I will never forget my date at this movie, after the laugh stopped following Molly saying, "He settled for pizza." "Oooooooooooooh hahaha." Cracked me up!
Definitely one of the most underrated classic movies! Great story, well told, awesome soundtrack, even if the acting (other than Laurence Olivier) wasn't the greatest.
I think Olivier (and he was ONE of the greatest actors) was so miscast. I struggled to see and hear him sound like this Rabbi with a German accent and inflections reminiscent of Nazi Germany.
@@reneeborovitch7585 That's what makes him the best. I didn't even know he was British until many years later. As someone who has known many old Jewish rabbis, Olivier NAILED it here. He did a similar accent and mannerism in a performance of Merchant of Venice.
@@cathieh.7225 Yes, I found the DVD since my post 5 years ago. Thank you for asking; that is very kind of you. I actually bought 2 copies. One is still in pristine factory-sealed condition that I bought from a seller in Japan. And the other was from an American seller. I think it's a ripped or bootlegged copy that came in a movie poster printed on a DVD case. It's not the best quality, but still watchable. I'm very content overall. It's one of my all-time favourite movie soundtracks. I have the original soundtrack on CD as well. I used to have the soundtrack on cassette many years ago, but unfortunately, the tape ripped due to overplay. All my best wishes. Todd--from Canada
@@cathieh.7225 Thank you for sharing that. What was your favourite part in the movie? Mine was when his father was in the audience in the end and he was clapping to the performance of "Hey Louise". You knew right then & there he realized and approved of his son's stardom & career. That song is still my favourite one in the entire soundtrack. It's so energetic! I still listen to it all the time. 🙂
When I was 8 in 1980 every time my mom would take me to see Dolly in 9 to 5 ...We had to go see The Jazz Singer... because I think my mom had a thing for the Jewish Elvis.
Jess just needed to live out his dream. Heading west was the answer! If only Riff didn't fight him. She just pushed him more closely into Molly's life.
1:56 Molly’s thoughts 💭 “ WOW! 🤩 Jess is SPECTACULAR!!! He is already a SUPERSTAR and I love it , The audience loves it , And He’s loves it and is having a GREAT TIME! WOW!!!!” Rivka’s thoughts 💭 “ 😞 He’s good , too good! Why is Jesse wasting his beautiful talent to a bunch of toxic strangers 😭 ?? I want him back on Eldridge Street and sing in the synagogue 🕍 !!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Love it!! My name is Louise
I know his health has made him stop touring, but I’m still kind of flabbergasted as to how this song never became staple of his live shows

i think neil did a great job!!
The fun factor and the music is OFF THE HOOK! Greatness.

He might have forgotten his Nazi accent from ‘Marathon Man’. “Eez it safe?

Finally found it. Was bugging me!!!
I'm still hunting for this movie on DVD. It's hard to find. This scene was so energetic! It's my favourite song in the soundtrack.
I'm so glad it is now on Amazon Prime....!!

I don't care what Siskel and Ebert thought, this was not that bad of a movie.
Most critics are cynical a$$#Ol3$
I think Neil Diamond said, and it’s the truth, “A critic is someone who’s never tried what they’re criticizing.”
oh yes
The title is "Hey Louise"
this need to be remastered and the talking taken out
I totally agree. The talking between this great song has got to go.
