  • This video will show you the good, the bad, and the UGLY part of rolling a this expensive piece of equipment down the hill. These Fat Trucks are extremely capable and fun but everything has a limit. Luckily we have some friends to help us get things sorted out. Alan and Diesel Dave from @SparksMotorsCo come to help us get the fat truck back on its feet and off the mountain.
    -
    Huge thanks to@SparksMotorsCo and @mtnfortresslabs for the extra man power we needed to get this thing off the hill and back home safe and sound.

    I knew from the thumbnail that this was going to be a good episode!
    I say it almost every time, but your videos are getting better and better each week 😁👍
    Kole, you said I could have a hoodie when your merch was rolled out, but can I come and have a drive in a Fat Truck instead??
    I promise not to flip it 😂
    We don't get weather like this in the UK, we've not had proper snow for decades 😢

    Very sad that Aaron who wrecked the Fat Truck and caused all this to happen had to blame someone in the shop on camera for not tightening a bolt on a unfinished project that was rushed into service because of him flipping the Fat Truck, and then using the 6500HD before it was even finished and checked over before use. The 6500HD sure did look like a beast on that mountain! Glad no one was hurt but calling out the a guy in the shop was low class.

    • @Aaron-JackknifeMotors
      @Aaron-JackknifeMotors 3 місяці тому

      It wasn't a guy in the shop, it was a potential new hire that over sold his capabilities. I'll coach and bring up eager young tradesmen to be the best they can be, and I've found throughout that process I have found that I continue learning and growing. The work this gentleman did was weeks before the rush to get the 6500 up the hill. The difference between an off-road accident and a blatant lack of care towards a trade that someone claims to have mastered is vast. I trusted the man at his word as I do as default, this could be viewed as my fault. I roll, crash, and break things all the time. I find limits of myself, toys and equipment. Could you imagine a guy showing up to work on elevators with some fake credentials and having a near miss accident? It would be viewed as criminal by the majority. In the custom fabrication industry, we don't have the luxury of having any merit system that I can trust to reflect a tradesman's ability. Call it low class but I take my work way more serious than I take my play time. There are times I'll make mistakes in the shop too; I own them and expect my peers to not just let it slide. This is called accountability and I feel it's one of the most important qualities that I've seen lacking amongst tradesman lately.

    If you look closely, when the Fat Truck was airborn it was coming down nose heavy and Aaron must of panicked and got off the joy stick which stopped the drive and locked up the front wheels, causing the thing to ass- over-front flip it.

    • @Aaron-JackknifeMotors
      @Aaron-JackknifeMotors 3 місяці тому

      This is 100% correct. Me being an ignorant careless operator, I returned the joystick to center when the truck was air borne heading down the lip at which point it applies a parking brake. When I went full joystick it did not respond because I didn't hit the button to release the automatic brake. It was my fault for lifting off the stick to begin with. The fat truck is ridiculously capable, I just suck at driving it.

    • @stupidgenius9738
      @stupidgenius9738 3 місяці тому +1

      @@Aaron-JackknifeMotors then its even worse. Then its both- you careless/inexperienced with given rig, and the rig itself has design flaws, as no rig should go into parking and block all its wheels in the middle of driving- especially in that brief moment while being in the middle of the flight(no matter what you do unless you do it intentionally). I thought it was more like short gear/gearbox braking in absence of acceleration or brake pedal in panic.

    Can't spin the front tires up fast enough to prevent a front rollover is a major design flaw.
    No auto shutdown when inverted is dumb.
    No way to disconnect the drive line so it can the tires can is so thoughtless is defies belief.

    Glad you were not injured Aaron, but I will have to say that vehicle is super unstable being that high off the ground. I guess for all of its benefits there has to be some drawbacks.
    Do these come with different seating, configurations, or any type of shell to put over the rear?

      We are going to be doing some modifications to this. Possibly some sort of shell or cage…. But they do have other models with more seating. We wanted one with a truck bed to start.

    One reason I hate using lift blocks. Easy to mess up vs using rearched springs to get the lift. Hope the person who installed them wrong learned something, lol.

    I'M NO TOW EXPERT, but I'd think flipping it sideways back over would decrease damage using the rubber of wheels as a buffer and also needing least effort.
    Being you chose to pull it normally, atleast flip it rear end over cab, not cab over rear end like you did. Not only will that require the most energy but more likely to drag a little before flipping.

    He basically went too fast over a sharp bump causing the rear tires to fly up into to air. Then he panicked and either released the joystick or even slightly pulling it backwards causing it to decelerate quickly with all the weight on the front axle. The way a sherp and this copy of a sherp are designed with the center of the axle near the bumpers and a high center of gravity caused the front axle to become the fulcrum point and roll easily while torque was being applied in the opposite direction on the front axle. Nothing is idiot proof no matter how capable it may be, somebody will always find a way. To top it off, he blames somebody else for an unfinished truck rushing out of the shop and not having it sqaured away so it could save him from his own f***k up😂😂

    It is not very good for the new machine to have so much damage on a rollover. The jump was not even high. I can't imagine driving down a back road and hitting a snow drift and rolling over on a back road. It needs a design modification so it can be rolled on its tires quickly and for all the oil and fluids not to spread.😮Glad you are ok though. Very scarey ride out.

    These things are very cool but I would think unless they're half the price of a Sherp you might as well have a full cab and be able to get more people in it And keep your gear high and dry.

    Happy no one got hurt. But you can clearly see what happened. He got scared and hit the brake as he was going down the hill & that is why he went over. Next time, if you decide to do it again, drive out of it. But luckily no one was hurt.
