I love that Mic wore the same striped jumper for 20 plus years. These were real scientists and truly enthusiastic historians...and the best part is they always get a pint at the end of the day.
He had a fair number of them, all different. It's fun to guess what season it is based on which pullover he had on...
Sure….just like Mr Rogers
You know it's an old show when Tony still has hair, and mick lives, and Phil's hat is new.
And the‘technology’ is large monitors and geophysics is still fairly new.
And yep you got it
Mick was such an awesome guy on this show, miss ya Mick ☹️
I just finished watching an interesting episode (the team's first Roman mosaic find) before deciding I'd enjoy another on this chilly Sunday morning in the Pacific Northwest of USA. At first, I wondered if the host, Tony, was wearing a wig!
It would be nice for those of us new to watching the program--this old Yank for one--if original episode numbers and or dates were included in the brief description that Odyssey appends to the upload. I know, I'm on the web and can search it out; but, why not save viewers the time and effort for want of an additional line of text, right?
For others who might be interested, I found "List of Time Team episodes" article on Wikipedia. This was season's 3 episode 6, which originally aired in 1996.
I love Adrian the landowner. He was all over the site and involved with finds. Bravo to the entire team.
He was so clearly delighted and in his element.
"Try not to get too much drool on it" .... best Time Team line ever!
Yes,i 2nd that!!
@30:51 the lady cleaning the ancient glass shards!!!
Power to her! ✊🏻
I can only imagine being instructed that this was my job, knowing both the importance of it yet also anticipating the tediousness…given a heap of dusty glass, a pail of water and a toothbrush…her dear face says it all!
Without this crucial step the entire process might have failed.
You. Go. Girl. 🥂
Amazing, a town, farm, or settlement was here, then after 2,000 years it's just a hay field, the ruins a foot under the sod, everything above ground disappeared. The short temporary mark of man.
Or it was just the dumping ground for some thieves?
I guess it’s your perspective. After 2000 years the things they used are still here
Very well said, sir.
Definitely one of the best Time Team shows (if not THE best) that I've ever seen, there wasn't a moment I was in the least bit bored! Man I miss this wonderful show!
From "List of Time Team episodes" article on Wikipedia, I learned that this video was season, 3 episode 6, which originally aired in 1996.
I'm so happy I stumbled onto this programme, with Young Tony, and Stewart and John looking so young, and Victor Ambrus working with the Roman equivalent of stylus and wax in modern tablets and pens. So happy to see Mick's sweater in good nick and Mick full of pep.
I think that it's fantastic when they recreate something in order to show how it was made. Sure does up the human interest factor a lot.
Damn, I miss Suffolk. Between my military time (81st Security Police Sqdn) and the following 7 years I spent there as a civilian, I had 11 wonderful years in that place. Cheers to the team at Odyssey for making this. I'm back in the states now, but look back on my time in Suffolk and in England in general with so many fond memories. All the best.

@@martenkrueger8647 Great to hear from you, Marten. When were you at Upper Heyford?
Newton :-)
Timeless classic! I’ve learned so much about early British History!
I could listen to Robin talk about anything! Other than Mick, I think I miss him most of all from the later series.
He is my favorite - so sad that he passed so early in the series. So much nostalgia for this episode.
I live on the West Coast of the US. You guys in Great Britain find artifacts from 2,000 years ago and say: (bad imitation of British accent) “Quite nice.” Me? I find a 1978 penny with my metal detector and shriek with glee for finding such an “OLD” piece of history.
I am orig from San Diego and archeological evidence shows at least 10,000 yrs of habitation in SD County. Different types of find than in UK.
i spent some time with an archeologist in new mexico and i learned how to spot flake scatter (from tool making) i figured out for myself how to find defensible spaces near a water source, because that's where one finds evidence of habitation. one easy rule, if a spot was a pleasant place to sit and chip stone thousands of years ago, it might look like a pleasant place to sit now. the last time the county put down gravel on my road there was a prehistoric left handed pole scraper by my gate. evidence of prehistory is all around, and it's not that hard to read the signs, if you find yourself at a loss, there are archeologists at your local museums, universities, they're easy to dig up.
also, spent cartridges can tell tales of fights and skirmishes. read the land.
Look for arrowheads and shark teeth, they are there to find. Huntington Beach, CA
Such a great show. I’ve been watching and rewatching for years and the shows always delight. The music is so evocative.
WOW!!!!! THIS VIDEOS GOTTA BE 78 YEARS OLD!!!! WOW,,!! LOOK AT ALL OF YOU YOUNG BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE FROM WAY BACK WHEN!!!
Reijer Zaaijer posts all time team without adds.
Cheers
I just love this show!
I love seeing them young again. 💔
Good to see the young people involved.
The fact that I didn't know Baldrick was also doing Roman history is a crime. I need this and I never knew I did!
20 years of Time Team. Go to town. 😜😁
I remember hearing about Doggerland and looking for some documentary about it. Found Timeteam. That was 2012. Haven't stopped watching ever since.
He has a cunning plan.
You are so lucky right now.
"Baldrick" AKA Tony Robinson may have played a moron, but is actually a very intelligent, well educated man.
Tony with hair is blowing my mind
"Oi err, eers at, sommat bout.'' -Always fun when Phil's talking.🤣
It's great seeing them all so young.
Fondly remembering
those no longer with us.
I'm a self taught history buff, this stuff is awesome!!! And all the pottery building material and trinkets is rich!!! I would LOVE to have an opportunity to work on an escalation sight!! Digger? And being able to work next to an archeologist would be an awesome opportunity to learn more!!!
escalation??? Think your spell-check needs updating.. hehe.
I think that your trying to say excavation sight.lol
@@davidmackintosh7776 site* sorry
You can feel the age of this episode just by the length of Tony's hair. 😁
I think I'm about to make some of y'all feel old. This episode was from around 1995 thus, this episode is around 27 years old.
Yes, this aired in 1996.
4:3 Format and Tony with hair.
This episode is ancient.
Feels like our own time machine back to 1995
Love this farmer !!!!! 💘💘💘💘
I can watch these,,,real experts,all day long
Phil is amazing.
"people don't dig holes in the middle of a field" he said while standing in a hole he dug in the middle of a field
I want a full set of replica Samian ware in its own rustic hutch.
The perfect complement for a Spanish legs up tabletop wineskin.
I love building material because that shows type, size and perhaps why and use of the buildings. Thank you for great videos.
Excellent ep to see all the team... and John not being so negative ;)
So young…love it
He's like 50 in this lmao.
Before the dark times
@@Gazpacho8 that’s young to me…lol
@@TheJxvi If it truly was in the Dark Ages…I would have seen him there myself…lol
@@Gazpacho8 he's like over 100 now. Gulp
Omg, Phil and Tony's long hair 😲🤭!
I had no idea the Time Team had been running for so long
Me neither
It ran for twenty years
ua-cam.com/video/yDScJahs4b0/v-deo.html
20 years plus tons of specials lots of specials
As far as I can find, there were 271 episodes, including specials.
Thanks for posting
It’s pretty amazing that nearly anywhere in the UK a little digging brings up artifacts. In the US you could dig a 100 mile trench in some places and not find a thing. My grandfather had a field on a bluff next to the Elm River where a native encampment had been at one time. You could find arrow heads and beads but they were far and few between.
you can really see how dry the ground is ,when they scrape it off with the JCB.
When they're showing Adrian, the landowner, the grains under the microscope (36:11): where are they? are they in his barn? look at the roof!.Wow!
This episode should be called Time Team Kids.
OMG! The top of Phil's head!
Oh! Tony! Where'd you get all that hair? Very interesting excavations and finds, though.
In 1950s America, the word "dig" was sometimes used for the word "like". If you "dig" something, it meant you "like" it. You just "dig" these excavations, don't you?
That pun is itself an archeological artefact.
Cool Roman Britannia.
Readily changing the hair style on stone statues of empresses? Never heard that before. I guess vanity has historical precedence.
It appears that this site basically dates to the time of Trajon in its earlier years. This would coincide with the approximate height of the Roman empire( 100 A.D.).
I also love the fact that they bring in craftsmen, and women
It’s always nice to be back with the people who say “slap bang”
Enjoying this ❤
I hear modern archaeologists recently found Phil's lost Tankard and Tony's hair line
!Thanks.!

Moloch sighting
Mick reading 1995 on his cup is surreal.
I want to believe this was the home of Celtic nobility and the Roman artifacts are war booty deposited by Celtic warriors after defeating the damned Romans at some battle nearby. The little owl broach is of Celtic design, and has groups of three "bosses" possibly indicating the social status of the owner (with 5 bosses indicating the highest social tier).
Probably the other way around though
Prrrft jajaja "cElTiC nObIlItY" filled the halls of harems of Romans homes! Slav-es! 😂
Guys, your country was occupied by romans the same amount of time my country was, but you have an imense treasure of artifacts down there comparing to us. Keep digging and you'll find a time capsule even Pompei would be put to shame...😉👍
You are a nature Boy Cleggy.
It's noted that you when the opportunity arises you weave in your video those beautiful moments you are noting in nature
Aside your finds you got a heart and eye for the beauty of nature.
Thumbs up Cleggy.
PS does pesky buttons.
Stop detecting at Buttony Bay
😅😅😅
Tbh 3days seems like a TV executive decision on programming. I understand the experts involved have to speculate on the context with such time restrictions which leaves me curiously unsatisfied with many digs.
Three days was what they could pay for. Yes, there were lots of volunteer field walkers and university students, but... All the tents, catering, camera crew, post-production, and time for the archaeologists away from their bread-and-butter teaching jobs (and their own site digs): it was an expensive programme for its time.
Also, the archaeologists were professionals, most of them were employed at various universities, so had jobs they worked Monday through Thursday. And, three days added some suspense- could they get it done?
Three days is also just a pretty standard format for evaluating sites, which honestly was their bread and butter.
Wow Tony with HAIR and dark hair at that. ❤️😀
I like the American glass blower. Reminds me of a character from Easy Rider
When the wild striped sweater was new
Is there any way the original air date can be shared? I don’t see it, but I’m always wondering in the episodes 💜
No survey of next door plots...like where the homes are.
This is Season 3, Episode 6, titled “Treasures of the Roman Field.” It aired in 1996. This is the last episode in Season 3.
You can always tell when it was filmed by Tony's hair while everyone else looks the same. =)
The Circus Party 😂😂🤣🤣
dare I say this! these episodes soothe me. I live in a time about 20 years after when it's pretty alarming. global warming and ex president who steals nuclear secrets of another country and stores it in a cardboard box where spies have been reported to come and go.
Wow! On an episode about ancient Roman/British history you manage to think about Trump. You need therapy since, he still lives in your head. Get a life!
Early to mid 90's "soothing"? Gulf War (which I served in, not soothing at all.) Rwandan Civil War, Sri Lanka and the Tamil Tigers, Luzon earthquake, Croatian War of Independence, Somalia.. Soviet coup...Mount Pinatubo, Afghan Civil War, Chechnya.... etc etc (I'm sure I'm missing some major events!) The 90's were "pretty alarming" for a great many people!
Man he used to have so much hair on his head😂😂
Your shows are so insightful. But why do you limit yourselves to 3 days of excavation ?
Because they all have their own careers/lives in different places. They do more than three days work in the three days, which jump starts the local archaeologists on finding out what they have to deal with.
With Tony's long hair ive been expecting the black adder " can anyone let me know if mick is OK! Mick on the team I have so much respect for these guys the whole team that is , it's exciting enough when they find a olde rum chorps cannon let alone having thousands of years of history in your back yard im in Australia and settlement is only 200yrs old all my ancestors come from the . U.k. so I have great interest in historical England as I am a medievil reinactor 12th century knight I only have heaps of respect for our forebears wearing armour cheers time team no1 fan Sydney .
Why are you the only one without any wine?
Wow! Tony Robins has a lot of hair! When did this episode come out?
Probably in the 1990s. I watched them all as they were made :)
Robinson
Stuart is so young!
Love how the names of the Celtic tribes just trip off Robin’s tongue!
I think Phil would have been a warrior in a different era
Should have called a lock smith hey ?!
Tony’s curls…. Nothing else needs to be said. I feel like this has to be around 1987…
This air in 1996.
archaeologists dig the past
When was this series filmed?
This particular episode was within the first or second season. During the scene where they are drinking the wine from the re-created Roman pottery - someone makes
a comment about "1995" - being stamped on the bottom of the cup - which would have been during season two. The program was on the air from 1994 to 2014.
This channel is just uploading the work of "Time Team" an old UK TV program.
"the walnut tree field"? Why would any sane person remove a walnut Grove, replacing it with grain? Unbelievable!!!
Could just be that because of the few trees in tthe field. Maybe was never a grove.
Who says they were sane?
Baldrick has much too much hair for this to be a recent video.
👌👌👍👍
It could it just be a cashe of stolen loot too
They have barbers over in England?
25:25 easily fourth or fifth century
Tony has hair? How old is this video? lol
I'd love to go check out that forest where they ambushed all those Romans! I guess thousands of them were massacred and I'll bet there's tons of stuff there if it all hasn't been taken already!
These two “detectorist” found all these finds. So we’re going to put them on dirt mounds. Seems a good use of resources 😂
31:16
The guy has literally been scraping away at that damn pot for a while now, and it still looks as if he’s barely touched it. Jeez man. Get on with it. You’re not getting paid to babysit it.
Pretty certain a few doobies might have been smoked while stoking the furnace overnight.
I knew someone else would have commented on that. Honestly, kinda want to hang out with the glass blower dude. I'm willing to bet he's got some stories.
To this day...Human beings still throw there junk/garbage everywhere.
He's got hair! Makes me feel old..
Phil's cocaine nails were a lot shorter as well for troweling for smack and artifacts .
tonys wig tho
Brittania.
Why is there always just three days?
Why do they insist on calling the high voltage power poles as "telephone" poles? They make the distinction of different pieces of pottery by name but cant name a type of pole!
Not expecting a southern gentleman in English countryside
