  • Graeme Moody 1951-2011.
12 year old Tane and 15 year old brother, Zen, (blue wetsuits), jump off the two ledges at Angourie in June 2007. Both boys had close calls. A caught leash can make a close call something worse. Take care out there.

I came across this and thought it would show where Graeme was surfing. Then there he is.
Brought a tear to the eye of someone who has survived.

I surfed Angourie in the early 60s when 4 was a crowd. Never ever considered that jump off.
The paddle out from the beach was never that onerous.
    Plenty of sharks around however.

Thank you 🙏 for not putting those stupid fuzzy video side bars and uploading the video in it's native 4:3 format.
    Well done.

Wow I surfed it a few times in 89/90 got it one day in identical conditions as this film.Incredable wave it has everything, fast hollow bending bowling in that that scenic cove.Even walk was so fun.Never thought about going off the point there but heaps respects to this guy shown here doing it.I surfed all around Australia during that time. And place one of my faves along with Kirra,Noosa, little Black Rock Aussie pipe and Left-handers in W.A. R.I.P fellow surfer in time blessed to have surfed..

You could stick to Lifeguarded beaches but of course that might raise the risk of experiencing a Shark Attack.
The safest thing might be to stick with the gang. Buy a thick wetsuit. Always surf with a friend.
Be aware of cross currents, rip currents. Whales !!
Or maybe even get a job instead !!
Of course folks might end up surfing alone. They should stick yo the beach break. Else buy a helmet and swim with a friend.
Always paddling through the surf to get out the back might ebnsure an awareness of the power of the sea.
Taking a short cut. By jumping off a point might end up in people taking on more they can handle !!
Maybe if kids spend a lot of time at the beach they could join The Lifeguard Club ? And that way. Learn to swim safely and economically as The Club might share boards and have an equipment store .
