Keep it on the bike, safety is #1. When I get my next bike (Thinking ZRX even though I love Yamaha) I won't be riding after 6pm because that's when people start going out drinking & driving (My accident last year was caused by a hit and run drunk driver leaving a bar).

Ferric chloride will force a dark patina on steel if that is something that you'd like to do to the battery box. Plus the patina is protective against rust.

I personally haye underglow on everything so I'm pretty biased. But if you like it then keep it on there for sure, helps with visibility at night if nothing else
