maybe these traditional watch brands like seiko, citizen and orient should market more towards the younger generation by sponsoring youtube men's fashion channels like alpha m, rmrs, tmf and lots others.
TMF is teachingmensfashion hosted by Jose Zuniga. On these fashion channels all you hear is MVMT, The Fifth, DW etc etc.. i havent seen a single men's fashion channel sponsored by classic watch brands.
I'm 25, never had a watch. I didn't even know that watches could work without a battery. :/ My girlfriend wanted to get me a MVMT watch for Christmas, so I told her to wait for me to do a little research first. Thank God I found this channel!!! I bought a Seiko 5 SNK809 instead. It should be delivered by next week, can't wait to have it in my wrist! Thanks TGV!
I hope u did ur research well. And know what to expect. Seiko 5 is a nice choice for entry level automatic watch, but for entry level automatic watch they r generally more inaccurate than quartz watch. And it’s normally for seiko 5 to be -/+30 seconds per day. But don’t worry a lot them r -/+5 per day. Hope u get a good one, congrats on ur first mechanical watch
Bambino for a girl? At 40.5mm, wouldn't that be too big for a girl? The Orient Cybele or Sun And Moon Petite at around 34mm would be a better choice. Or, the guy could also have went with a Tissot, even if a quartz at that price point. Better name recognition than Orient and Seiko, probably would save the girlfriend some explaining to her yuppies friends. That said, I'm currently have my eyes set on an Orient Contemporary Open Heart RA-AR0004S (would have gone with the Bambino, if not for the 21mm lugs, mineral crystal, and no exhibition case back; or a Tissot Visodate if not for the 3x price vs the Orient; need that extra money to finance the Seiko --> ), and a Seiko Prospex Samurai "Blue Lagoon" SRPB09K1 Limited Edition.
I just watched an entire video from Alpha M advertising MVMT watches and It was met by a huge backlash from the viewers. I'd like to thank Urban Gentry for spreading the right information for new watch fans so that they won't fall for the aggressive marketing of these fashion watch brands.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, the fact that your appreciation for a $10 watch has the same energy as a watch that cost $25,000 is the reason why I love your channel.
And the best part is he's not faking it like he's not overreacting or anything it just feels so good to watch a person who is genuinely expressing their passion....that is enough reason for me to subscribe and this is the first video of him I've ever watched
I'm going to be 100% honest. I kind of like that everyone is going around wearing DW, And MVMT while I'm wearing my Seiko Sarb033. Makes me feel unique lol. That's just me though.
I love my Seikos and Citizens. I also like Aulta's offerings. I bought the Paipo white model and put a vintage-style strap on it for work. Cheap, durable, and it's a nice homage to the 60's Heuer Carrera watches.
agree, it is nice to be away from the pack but even nicer when somebody knows what it is on your wrist and you have that moment of mutual appreciation. They are indeed art pieces.
I have not worn a watch since I was 12 and broke the crystal. I just turned 60 and you introduced me to the Seiko sarb035. I bought it and am very happy. Now I want the Rolex oyster 114300 rhodium when I retire. Great show always!!
I’m 16 and I’ve bought at longines hydro conquest 41mm about 4 months ago, saw it about a year and a half ago and said to myself “would love to own one one day” I said fuck it and started saving, it took me about a year to buy it and it’s my most valued possession.
*I like how you are just excited by a $10 Casio as you would a $10,000 Rolex!* *Some horologists like to look down on Casio, or any quartz watch especially if it's a digital watch on top of that.*
When I was looking to get a watch in high school my mom gave me one of my dad's old Citizen eco-drive watches and to this day almost 10 years later my go-to watches are is still the Citizen eco-drive watches. Glad that I got started off on those instead of waiting a couple more years and going for one of the fashion watches
Hello, I am 12 years old, I never really cared about watches, all I had was a Timex Iron Men, then my dad gave me his big old 1599 Diesel watch, then I watched your videos, my whole perspective changed on watches, even though I only have 3 watches, I still respect the craftsmens ship that goes into a watch. Best regards A fellow subscriber
Heres my story. Im a 17 years old. One day, my puma digital watch was broken. The strap broke off. I didnt have a watch at the time. I was planning on getting a new one ofcourse. Few of my friends, had Fossil chronograph watches. They look pretty good, although theyre a little huge for my wrist, its still a decent looking watch. Plus, they get alot of compliments wearing those fossil watches. I later went to a watch store and saw a nice looking fossil chrono with a black case and brown strap. I put that in my personal wishlist. Skip through a couple weeks, a youtube channel i like was sponsored by MVMT watches. So, i thought, why not have a look, my brain was saying "They trust MVMT so might aswell go for it". I went to the website and saw a beautiful 'diver' looking watch called the 'modern sport' with the black dial and black case. It was so tempting on getting that. It was 145 bucks but i thought, its a well known watch so thats reasonable. But something, just something, tells me "not yet". I didnt go for it. I was looking through youtube, finding watch reviews and thats where i stumbled upon your channel. It was a video about watches under 200 dollars or something. Cant remember. Then, i started watching more and more of your videos, i subscribed to you. I started learning more and more about horologic and watches as a whole. I was becoming more and more like an amateur watch enthusiast. Then i saw a video of the orient bambino. and i think, "man, this watch is a beauty, a nice dresswatch with automatic movement and quite affordable too. I then pulled the trigger and went ahead and bought one. Though, i didnt use my own money, i didnt have money. My parents bought it for me. It was my first ever real watch. I was thirsty for more now that i am getting deeper into the watch world. I went a head and bought a casio f-91w with my own money. I dont know why but i was enjoying the casio more than he bambino. I did once plan on selling it but i just couldnt, i couldnt because...its the watch i bought when TGV introduced me to the watch scene. Now, i have a seiko 5 snkl23 and a casio ca-53w on the way. (both bought with my own mney) Im planning on paying off the bambino before i go for the next treasures, Thank You TGV for saving me and introducing me to the watch world. p.s, sorry for my english
Forty Seven my friend...i love your story and welcome to the watch world...my friend you have seen only tip of the iceberg of watches...once you jump innthe Ocean of Swiss watches....trust me there is no way out of it...start with swatch and tissot the entry level models...move to omega, Rolex, Tag Heuer & Longines. Some of the most popular Swiss watches...then move to luxury class with Audemars Piguet, Jaegur LACOULTRE etc...some of the names you gotta look into ;)
I was looking for something around €100 and almost bought an MVMT, then I saw this video... Now I am the proud owner of a Swatch Black-One. Thanks dude
I'm Swedish so I heard a lot about DW... I got a cheap 20 $ watch (which I like) from my girlfriend for christmas and I've been watching a lot of videos about watches ever since. As you said there's no real marketing to young people from great brands. I had to look for myself for what a affordable watch is. I bought a Citizen eco drive a couple of days ago, so glad I didn't buy a DW or whatever. It was the first none "fashion watch" I bought. Even tough I'm pretty poor there are still some great watches for my pricerange which I didn't know before. Thinking about buying a Tissot or a Seiko 5 as my next one. Videos like this got me interested in watches and watchmaking.
Well Nether, that's your opinion. I still like them. I looked at those brands and I don't like them. I was just telling the OP of a brand I bought. 🤷♂️
Of course. I meant no harm. It's that I don't get why people like those brands so much. I know Invicta isn't recommended as much, but I don't know why. Ruggedness, service life, water resistance, etc.? I mean, I don't think other brands that have the same price ranges are junk unless they aren't as reliable.
I didn't know about watches when my Fossal Blue I bought 2003 finally fell apart this year. I'm so glad I decided to research for my next watch on UA-cam. My whole outlook has changed. Thank you for your knowledge and passion . I'm now a watch geek. Thanks again.
DW watches are just re-branded cheap Chinese watches with Japanese quartz movement, those guys literally took it to the bank on those watches. I am amazed at the prices they managed to sell them at,bravo to them.
The success of junk watches like these re-branded generic chinese watches known as DW, only proves that most buyers know nothing about watches. I am pretty sure no one would buy a Chevy Aveo, paying the price of a Mercedes Benz C Class. There is nothing wrong with the Aveo, but if GM price it as much as as a C class, then everything is wrong. So, why would any one pay 250 for a DW? It worth no more than 15 dollars in the best of cases!
Really amazing digital marketing and honestly good looking minimalist watches. I'd say if you're buying MVMT or DW watches you probably don't care about what makes a good watch, only what looks good.
I'm 17 years old and I originally got a watch to keep time during AP testing when you aren't aloud to have your phone, and I discovered I actually like them watches are a rewarding hobby!
Derek smith I'm 15 and I have a Speedmaster and a vintage Tudor Prince Oysterdate and I haven't seen anyone my age with something that isn't a gshock or fashion watch
Before I watched Urban Gentry and got my first traditional watch I never own a watch that made me feel as happy as my Seiko Skx 009. Once I received my Seiko my mind was completely changed on what a watch was and what it represented. So thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to be apart of this amazing community and to own something that brings me such joy.
So you came to this decision without Seiko making a concerted effort to market and "reach out" to you? You made your purchasing decision based on something more substantial than a single full-page ad in a magazine or website? ; )
If you really really want to buy a Daniel Wellington, look up Pacifistor first. It comes off the same factory line and costs about £15. I was in the same position can't tell you how close I was to buying a DW, really glad I didn't - this will really satisfy the urge and at the end of it you'll have saved 100 odd quid.
I was given a very braggy-styled Michael Kors as my first proper watch that I've used a while now, and this became a gateway or bridge to a discovery of the watch community for me. Of course it wasn't only the Michael Kors watch, but a change in my overall style, but it made me think of getting a proper, more classical watch, and so I'm currently aiming at a Seiko!
I love how you stressed out the need for the watch industry to tap into the market of these fashion watches are serving. It's all about demand and supply. When there's a demand for it, these fashion watches will thrive. Credit is given where its due, it is a booming market and a good business model for brands like DW and MVMT. If things are to change, traditional watchmakers should take this into consideration and reevaluate their offerings. Good content TGV!
I bought a DW years ago and I gave it away recently and bought a Nomos Tangente. Best decision ever. Winding my Nomos is a ritual and the quality is just phenomenal.
This 76 year old has loved watches for ever but got fed up with battery replacement but have now discovered eco-drive and rediscovered automatics. Keep up the excellent work....
22OrangeGirl The price went up a bit since I bought it, but here is the link. I contributed some product photos as well. www.amazon.com/Casio-Womens-Leather-watch-LTP1094Q7B8/dp/B000VH36QM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511053523&sr=8-1&keywords=casio+cat+watch
Love your passion! And loved the fact that you just don't bash on the fashion watches but rather educate us on why the reputable watch makers are better and on a totally different level.
Quick story: I was with some co-workers and wearing my "current favorite" watch the Tudor Black Bay Bronze. One of my co-workers said to me, "nice watch, is that a Fossil?" My wife looked at me and immediately started laughing.
Tristano, great vid. Most "horological snobs" don't understand the points you made. I own a Daniel Wellington. It sits with my SKX, Seiko 5, Rado, my dad's old Citizen and an Apple Watch. Watch-wise, I only plan to save up for a vintage Omega and a GMT Batman. Truthfully, I really enjoy the DW - it's the Dapper (ha). Blue minute/hour hands, roman numerals, small date window @ 6 o'clock. Pretty sure it's based on the Richard Lange (232025). But I love wearing it. I think more people my age would care about traditional watch making if snob enthusiasts made it less daunting to join the hobby, which seems to be filled with insecure "my taste is better than yours". It makes people run a mile away. Of course, most watch enthusiasts aren't snobs, not at all. But it seems there's always posts and comments out there by people mocking those who buy fashion watches. It doesn't hurt to educate (like this vid!) as opposed to making fun of. If wearing a fashion watch makes someone feel happy, is that anything to knock? At the end of the day, enthusiasts buy watches for the same reasons a typical consumer buys a fashion watch - you'll put your money in whatever you THINK will make YOU feel happy, whether that's an MVMT Voyager or a Patek Gondolo.
I agree with the snobs making it daunting to get into being a watch enthusiast, I know a lot of guys who try to maul you if you show interest in anything other than omega etc or can't afford a 4 figure watch which is pretty ridiculous since people have to start somewhere.
At the end of the day wearing a watch has to meet the needs of the user. I grew up with the traditional watches but the big change came with the Casio digital watches. You could do so much more like setting alarms but in the end the digital display really bugged me. Then with computers & mobile phones I realised that time was all around me and watches seemed to lose their appeal and I learned to live without them. You could say I was rejecting consumerism and saying I don't need a watch to define me. But now (thanks to your channel) I am coming back and just enjoying selecting watches that I like whether they are functional & practical or just have a particular look or style that appeals to me.
heres how it goes. Im 19, and i own a DW. it was my first watch that i spent more than 20 bucks from Walmart on. i really liked the minimalist look and that got me into watches. i started googling and found the likes of patek, iwc, vacheron. i fell in love with dress watches in particular and really got into it. now my collection consists of anvintage omega, hamilton, longine, and others. i may not have enough for some of these "luxury watches because im a college student, but i thank DW for getting me into it despite how shit of a watch it is. SO we should be THANKING some of these brands for getting people into watches.
Blaise Robert I love your comment I own 2 DW as gifts and love them and wear them always and cause of theses nice minimalist desings I discovered brands like Patek, Vacheron , longines and etc. I thanks a lot DW for putting me on the watch enthousiasm and now Im collecting some money for a nice affordable Frederique Constant FC-335CM4P5 its an amazing timepiece. I recommend you to look at Frederique Constant they are affordable and looks like DW dappers but with 10000x luxurius and they're even automatic!
frederique is bringing vacheron style at an affordable price which i somewhat have a problem with despite the fact im looking at a couple because lets face it i wont be getting one in this lifetime lol.
wow didn't expect a response from you, but i appreciate it and will take a look. im developing my taste still and im just into dress watches more than sports watches so i can appreciate the design of them. and the irony is when i bought the DW i thought i was getting a good watch and its just not the case.
Got my first real watch today, Seiko Samurai. It's gotta be my favourite watch under 1000, just such a great design with a solid movement. Absolute Beauty!
TheSeti12345 Excellent choice. I got a Samurai SRPB55 at a Macy's (at a sale price) and ignored the fashion watch brands that Macy's probably rather have us buy instead.
A friend from work got me in to watches. He said "A watch is one of few accessories that a man can & should wear". Soon after, he ordered my first watch for me, an SKX007. I fell in love with the watch & history of it, now i feel naked without a watch. After I got into watches we used to talk about TGVs latest video the day after release. The first thing i notice when i meet new people is the watch they are wearing (if they are wearing one)!
Exceptionnal video. Spot on analysis on what the older traditionnal watchmaking companies fail to do to raise interest from the younger generation. Thank you TGV, you fight under the right flag.
New to this "hobby" just in the last few days actually, but loving it so far. Several years ago I bought the most expensive watch I've ever purchased, a Citizen chronograph (with an E820 movement I believe) after falling in love with a colleague's Breitling and realizing I could not afford to buy one myself. This watch has been mistaken for something much more expensive many times. After my cat knocked it off the kitchen counter and it stopped dead, I sent it in for repair back in June 2021, and it's early December 2021 now. I learned this week that my watch is finally hitting the bench after awaiting parts for five months. The excitement of having it back soon led me research how I could make sure it keeps running forever, and I discovered a whole new world.
Great video. Its very sad that most people of the younger generation dont wear wristwatches anymore. I am part of this generation and watches are a huge part of my life.:)
It is a shame indeed. I wish I could find a way to change that, in the meantime I will carry on my crusade. Very glad to have you with us. Best regards, TGV
Tim Schubardt I'm 18, and am always having to explain to friends how I justify wearing a watch when I have a phone. I literally ordered a stienhart ocean 1 about 30min ago.
Tim Schubardt a lot more kids at my high school are wear Seikos and G-Shocks so, my generation is starting to get into it more :) My personal favorite is the Navitimer :) Hopefully its good taste :)
Man I am so lucky that I stumbled upon your channel. 6 months ago you made me consider getting a SARB033 and boy I couldn't have been more happier! Love the black dial with the green Hirsch strap
You need an upgrade. MVMT and such brands got big by internet marketing on social media. Way overpriced and poor quality. Get your self and great quality watch now.
Your videos inspired me to get into watches. I've never owned a watch before. Always had a cell phone. But these days I feel surrounded by computers - at work, at home, in my pocket - and I wanted something non-computerized. I got a mechanical watch and I love it. Watching your videos helped steer me in the right direction.
the problem with these heritage brands, is that they don't have a lot of modern styles. Or 'fashion styles' I would love to buy a watch from those brands but I never seen to find a style I actually like
Hi TGV, Just wanted to let you know you're doing a great job. Im 23 years old and own DW, armani and tommy hilfiger watches but since I started watching your videos I own seikos and tissots now. This shows you are achieving your goals and inspiring the younger generation. Also which rectangle watch would you recommend for under £200? Keep up the good work and come back to the UK more often. Regards, Syed Ali
Love your channel. I've returned to my love of watches after about five years of activity trackers and am giving up on those! Your passion bleeds through your channel! Love it!
I'm 16 and I LOVE my watches! Its a shame more people my age don't respect and appreciate a nice time piece anymore... you host a great show here TGV, love tuning in to every episode to find out what new (or old) exciting watches I'll see! Thank you sir! :)
Maybe some people just don't know it yet.. (-: hopefully they run into channels like TGV's. Mine started when looking for watches under $200 (just for curiosity of what people recommend at this price point as was thinking of getting a 2nd watch like an automatic). That's when TGV came in to share his thoughts and experience for affordable but great time pieces like the skx and bambinos (: I almost bought one, probably will some day. Still doing more research to it. Thanks TGV
I need to stress how GOOD Orient is as a watch company. Literally making the same looking sorts of watches as the Daniel Wellington or the MVMT but with a stellar Japanese movement. Orient is owned by Seiko and has all of big daddy Seikos resources on tap, but they act as an independent company. Fantastic and wonderful watches that no one is really paying attention to.
I'm quite heavily invested in watches both time and money wise. But I still can't see why people talk about "fashion watches" like it's a bad thing. Most people today wears watches as a fashion statement. And the look is the most important part for most people, including my self. I will wear a Daniel Wellington over a only traditional brand with mountains of heritage if I happen to find the DW better looking. I think that's party of the issue with a lot of the older watch manufacturer, that they're stopped following trends at about the same time people stopped wearing watches.
They meant "fashion brand" watch. They are "bad" because they sell the brand, not the watch. The watch could be a $20 watch made in some assembly line in China (which TRUE in case of DW) and people will buy it for more than $200 because of the brand, and definitely NOT for the quality of the watch. Buying a DW is the equivalent of spending $120 for an A.P.C./Kanye West' "Hip-Hop" plain white shirt. People can justify it all they want, but the truth of the matter is Kanye and Filip Tysander (founder of DW) are laughing their way to the bank. You should look at NOMOS if you think proper watch companies are "old" and not "trendy". There are affordable watch companies that don't swindle you like DW. Try Brathwait, Tisell, Junghans, Bulova, Orient, etc. They all make Bauhaus-inspired watches like DW, but some of them have sapphire crystal, automatic movements, etc. for less than $200. (now THAT's quality). The problem is people THINK that DW is quality ONLY because of marketing and are willing to spend $200 on them, but in reality they are being sold $20 garbage. Even then, they are not willing to educate themselves and still defend the company. Sigh..humans.
This. I honestly think the horology world is pretty ridiculous with the way it comes down on "fashion watches." I mean, these people who are criticizing are buying mechanicals that can't even keep accurate time for thousands of dollars on the basis of "heritage" (isn't that also "buying for the brand" just as much as buying a DW for the brand???). And they have the audacity to laugh at people paying an extra Franklin or two for aesthetics? Lol, please. Reality is, a fashion watch tells time pretty damn accurately, and that along with lookin' good is all anyone wants from them, if that's what they're buying. There's nothing wrong with it. If you like a fashion watch, get a fashion watch. Anyone who would look down on your for it is a jerk anyway, and most likely is in NO position to be criticising how much money you spent on your watch.
@@catv9085 No, it's not the same. When you buy a timepiece for the brand, you don't buy it for the "brand" as DW brand, which means just the brand name super highly marketed, you buy it for the brand WHICH COMES WITH THE QUALITY, heritage and craftsmanship, not just the brand name. Same as you buy some quality clothing for the brand but which also comes with high-quality material and work, not just and advertised name. It's the same as you buy a Rolls-Royce. You don't buy it just for the name, right? Not to mention that many high-quality watches that has a heritage, they are considered an investment because their price highly increases by the time, and this is a fact. You just buy whatever you want, it's your money, but don't judge people who are passionate about time and watches who clearly know a lot more and they "cry" when companies like DW, MVT and others just take advantage of marketing, uninformed people etc and sells the $3 crap for $200. It's just sad.
@@catv9085 You think you're paying extra for aesthetics? Those cheaply manufactured watches have cheap aesthetics, their straps can't be compared to the luxurious leather that you could be getting from proper companies for the same money. That's just one of the differences but like TGV says, you can't really judge a watch unless you're worn it. Hopefully you'll see for yourself some day, I've already had my experience with fashion watches. Next time you buy a watch, consider buying from a brand with a heritage, just to prove to yourself that you're right, I'm positive you'll have a good experience.
Cat V The difference is fashion watches come and go with trends. DW won't be around in 10 years whereas brands like Tissot, Seiko, Citizen, etc. have maintained their stays in the industry when watches have never been more superfluous. You make a good point about if you like it, buy it. I am all for that approach to watch purchasing. However, seasoned watch enthusiasts shake their heads at seeing fellow enthusiasts spend so much on such little in return. How much do you think you'd get reselling a DW or MVMT? Next to nothing. Think it will last 20-25 years? Not a chance in hell. Regardless of what you spend, when you buy a watch from a brand that speaks for itself in quality and heritage, which you seem to think aren't significant factors to consider, you are undoubtedly making a better financial decision based on resale value alone, not the mention the myriad of other reasons. I have looked at DW, Vincero, MVMT, all of those, and I can find better looking, better made watches in that same price point with that similar, or better, look all day long. People who act like these fashion watch makers are breaking the mold with watch styling just have not searched other watches thoroughly.
These fashion watches do such a good job of marketing that young people have no idea about the quality you can get elsewhere. I’ve made the mistake in the past and have now started my collection with a Citizen a Seiko and a Casio F-91w on a NATO! I’m in full agreement that the traditional brands need to do more. Channels like yours are showing people the light!
You’ve brought me back to my senses TVG! Almost bought a Vincero.....Chinese......quartz (Seiko Mecha Movement......whatever that is) But a beautiful chronograph with a 12 hour totalizer & the sweep second & the 60 minute totalizer for 3 dials plus the second hand of course. Very nice but maybe I’ll wait. I just have no idea how to go about buying a used watch from only a reputable dealer. 😬😩😭😎
Seiko mecha quartz movement is one of the best quartz u can get.justonemore watch tested it's accuracy and its surprising how good that is.if it got a sapphire quality ss u can pay about 200$ max though no more than that.
i opened up daniel wellington recently. It has a citizen miyota gl20 quartz movement inside. which can be found for under 10$. while a seiko 7s26 watch thats similarly priced or even cheaper has a 30$ proven automatic movement.
@12:50 when you were saying those things, that smile really solidified that you're being genuine and have a strong passion for this watch thing I don't really know the term for it but yeah, you have gotten me interested in this whole new world of classic traditional watches. I'd say you've done your job exceptionally well and will keep looking up to you for advice and anyone else who does have a passion for watches.
The collection currently includes Seiko SNK803, Seiko Orange Monster, Citizen c650 Skyhawk, Oris TT Diver.. and have decided next step has to be a Mechanical Chrono, and looking at Hamilton Jazzmaster - therefore a pretty smug grin on my face at my choices BEFORE i found the Gentry.... Great stuff as ever TGV
I've done a LOT of looking, and settled on Hamilton h32596551 Jazzmaster on looks, as well as pedigree - now looking for best price. Thanks for the advice though boyraceuk
Gary Sleep -The jazz master is an attractive watch in a good size. But, look into the Swatch Group story, basically an investment group that raided the swiss watchmaking industry when it was weak due to a double whammy (quartz and mid-late 70s recession). The group then set about eliminating ompetition all while proclaiming to have saved the Swiss watchmaking industry. Look into Swatch Group, they own the Hamilton brand, and decide if that's the kind of company you want to support.
Colleague at work could not understand why I laughed when she said my Seiko SKX009 was an Argos special compared to her husbands Versachi was far superior, and what do Japanese know about quality watch making
@@FullOfMalarky They did it with the Imperial Chinese and they've done it with the West. I wouldn't be surprised if we discovered advanced alien tech that they'd try to improve upon it.
We are truly kindred spirits, Sir! Your best video yet... I'll leave my house without pants on before I'll leave without my watch. (Wrist check right now: Glycine Combat GoldenEye). And to respond to your query at the top of the video, YES! The Bond Nato strap works beautifully.
Daniel Wellington sounds like the name of a meat distributor somewhere downtown... my advice, if you are looking for a fashion watch, at least buy a swatch. No research necessary. If you want to join the hobby, take some time to learn a bit and dive in!
My first watch was a Timex. It was I'm sure a women's watch as it had a small face, but then I was only 10yrs old. Then I got a Casio as it was more modern. I then got the all steel Casio Databank with the illuminator. Still a classic. It was stolen at a part I had when I was 14 in my parents house, when they were on holiday. I got it back a few weeks later, but it was never the same after that. The only fashion watch I've owned is a Lacoste chrono which I really like, but I love Tissot, Seiko and my current favourite, my Citizen. Watching your videos, I've seen so many that are now on my list. Orient, Islander, Stowa, Squale and it goes on and on. One day I'd love an Oris or Omega Seamaster.
The reason brands like DW are so popular is that they are advertised all over social media - mainly instagram. All top instagrammers are made to push these watches in their posts and I guess its made people buy a tonne of them.
People who buy those watches basing merely on advertising they saw on instagram basically know nothing about watches. In the car industry analogy, it would be like someone paying the price of a Mercedes Benz C class to get a Chevrolet Aveo, just because he/she saw a cool ad on instagram. At 4:55 we can see just how poor the craftsmanship is (if there was any to begin with), the cheapest metal used to make the case, the generic movement and so on.
I'm 23, i have a timex weekender, a gshock and a Casio a168. I'm trying to convince my girlfriend and little brother to get watches too. they're cool 😎, collectible, useful and stylish
I'm 16 and managed to save up for a legendary skx (Malaysia made) but nonetheless extremely functional. Whenever someone asks me what I'm wearing(yeah teenagers don't really know or care about horology) I tell them about seikos history and has its own in-house movement too. Literally everyone I know in high school chooses not to wear a watch of where these fashion watches such as DW simply because they are 'fashionable' and imo don't know any better. My 2 cents
Just pointing out that almost all SKX are made in Malaysia. The J series is for selling in the Japaese home market, not proclaiming it was made their. The K series (malaysia) is identical in every way possibly including the assembly line it came off. This is according to Seiko. Wear your K with pride.
My first “watch” purchase was a Michael Kors watch I used to be very proud of. I recently purchased a Gen2 V1 Bambino and it’s changed the way I feel about time keeping. Keep up the videos bud.
As a designer I find some of these traditional brands are not innovating enough and bringing their watches into the 21st century. Many of these I would say are an acquired taste. On the other hand these fashion brands are absolute shit quality for a ridiculous price. The watch industry needs to hire young designers with an awareness and taste for modern fashion. Yes watches are meant to be passed down to your grandchildren but they shouldn’t look like they’re from your grandparents time.
Traditional watches have great 'trendy' designs, eg apple and a lot smart watches are extremely similar to braun watches. They dont need younger designers, they need young professionals in marketing and social media
Bottom line most of those “real watches” he mentioned Cater to Caucasian middle aged men and the rest of the world just isn’t interested in technically sound ugly shit.
I saw Mouvement publicity on Facebook a longtime ago and some of there design interested me. But before buying something i decided to inform mysefl on forum, youtube, etc. I found your channel and some other that open my eye and show me many possibilities and passion about watches. I begin to be interested by the history of the brand, the caliber, the different innovation that each brand have made over the past decade. And finally i buy my first real watches, a Hamilton Khaki X wind day and date with a beautiful blue dial. I know people hate those fashion brand but for me it was this that start this new passion and the help of people like you.
As a 16-year old, Mechanical watches interested me. I was searching around the house for a charging cable when I found my fathers Swatch Automatic watch from the 90’s. I liked the feeling of looking into the movement, it made me feel comfortable in a funny way. I immediately intuitively knew that this watch was automatic upon picking it up. Although having no prior knowledge on automatic movements and watches. So, naturally I investigated this timepiece closely and decided to buy myself an Automatic timepiece. Oddly enough I went to seiko’s website and saw that their presage line of watches was quite pricey. So I did research on affordable automatics. And came accross your channel. This channel learned me how to view material objects as well as altered my opinion on Culture, Film and Literature. My orderd my first Seiko 5 SNKL81 on my 17th nameday. And a month later purchased a casio fw-91. After a year of owning the Seiko I still cannot stop looking at the movement and checking the accuracy. I am absolutely caught up in this hobby and I recently orderd a Citizen Promaster Eco drive as a toolwatch. I absolutely adore your channel and I feel you encapsulate what being a gentleman is all about. An art which is dying out at a rapid pace. Thank you very much and keep up the good work !! Onwards and upwards.
It’s because fashion watches are so easy to get. You can walk into any mall in America and buy a Michael Kors. The only watches available in my area at the mall are Citizen, Seiko, Bulova, and Movado. Mostly women shop in malls so it’s easy for them to walk in to Dillard’s and buy a kors. If you want an Omega, you have to find a boutique which are very few if any around me. Out of sight out of mind. A person sees a watch they like, they buy it. They don’t think is this a horological watch or a fashion watch. If the big brands would branch out more and be in more mainstream areas, then they would reach more people. I understand there are boutiques in big cities but if I want to buy a Grand Seiko in person, I have to drive 6 hours one way. If I want to buy a kors (which I never would) I only have to drive 15 minutes.
As a recent subscriber & fellow collector with a small collection of watches (Rolex: Oyster Perpetual, Milgauss, Yachtmaster II, Explorer, Daytona, & Pepsi [ + 2019 Batman on order] - Corum: Admirals Cup Tides - Baume & Mercier: Shelby Cobra - Patek Philippe: Calatrava 5227G - Sinn: 104 - Christopher Ward: C60 Trident GMT 600 - Panerai: Luminor GMT 10 Day - Omega: Seamaster & Speedmaster - Movado: Valor Tungsten Carbide - Seiko: Automatic Diver's 200 - Tudor: Oyster Prince Date+Day - Casio: Several G-Shocks - Timex: Marlin Automatic), I was recently given a MVMT ARC Automatic in Iron Elm as a birthday present. I simply didn't have the heart to say anything but positive to the giver (she will remain anonymous). I certainly wish that she had consulted me first... I would have recommended she saved $50 and got me another Marlin Automatic from Timex - a wonderful little gem!
Hi I'm an 16 year old from Germany And I love my Longines hydroconquest and my best friend have Breitling but not to show of money but we love the joy of waring an automatic whatch
Die Longines Uhren sind optisch ja auch schick, und auch die Qualität passt. Abgesehen von Rolex Uhren (insbesondere die Daytona) die einzigen Uhren mit größerer Lünette die mir zusagt.
Bruh you ain’t gotta mention the “not to show off money” part, we share the same hobby as you, we know what it feels like. & it’s not like you’re talking about a $40,000 Vacheron Constantin, either, most people can afford a Longines or a Breitling watch, if they’re comfortable with splurging a bit.
I love watches... I am much older than you and have had many watches from $ 20 - over $ 5000.... and have a small modest collection now of about 16 watches. I have noticed that most of the people that buy “designer / boutique” watches are the type that don’t care / are not interested in 1) the history / provenance of a watch and 2) the functioning / workmanship of a watch (quartz / automatic / etc) ... to them a watch is simply a fashion item / accessory or jewelry (just like a pair of earrings, a bracelet, a ring, a pendant, etc... ) and now with the smartphone: many just rely on the phone for time and the watch as an accessory / jewelry ... that is my take ... in my most humble opinion !!! Love your channel, thank you
I have always thought watches are cool and although wanting one never felt convinced on spending hundreds of dollars to get something for my wrist. Well now I have started looking into it and stumbled onto this channel. I must say watching videos on this channel has gotten me just so exited to get a watch I can't take it anymore. Awaiting in the mail this second a Orient Star Classic will be showing up soon. To be fair the excellent work on this channel has inspired and given me confidence in finding my first watch over $40.00. I truly thank you. `Anthony
@Zestypanda Stop being a watch snob! A good watch is one that tells time reliably for someones budget. A $50 Casio Quartz watch is more accurate and cheaper to maintain (just replace battery every couple years) than almost any watch over $1,000!
Nixon USA. Started making watches in 1998. They have a few models that have retained a strong following since the beginning. Many of their offerings have 100m WR and have PROVEN incredibly durable. Running Japanese Miyota movements +/- 10 seconds per month. (but really usually 2 seconds per month). They have full stainless cases and are used by adventure sports enthusiasts and military since the beginning. Yes they rely on the fashion industry but also make a quality product. So while Nixon has been inserted in the fasion category they began as a watch company. Essentially began as a micro brand offering affordable timepieces. I own the Nixon Time Teller in PVD gold gold as a dress watch. It is 100m WR, stainless, with Miyota engine. I think we need to be careful about which fashion watches we disregard. Macy's, Nordstrom, Target, Wal-Mart all carry true horological brands, Seiko, Citizen, Timex, etc. Yes I agree that slapping a brand on a Chinese watch and selling it for $300 is absolutely robbery. But my Nixon quartz cost me $100 and it's just as robust as $200 Citizen quartz. Thank you.
I wish you'd made this video a little earlier... 😪 since I've been watching your videos I'm completely I mean COMPLETELY obsessed with true watches.. now I'm gonna share this video to all those friends of mine who die for Fassion watches 😕
a search about Vincero watches brought me to your channel (and to a few others). Their appealing designs tore me into watches (I owned three for at least 8 years... my Swatch for 20). And now I'm getting deeper and deeper into that fascinating world. I'm constantly learning. And I've got my ever-first automatic watch, a Seiko SKX007 (with a bunch of NATO straps). That's a really special feeling and joy wearing it. And renewing the batteries of the other quartz watches and wearing them as well... several compliments included ;) so fashion watches were the door opener to an old and new world for me (and definitely for many, many others)
It feels weird when you switch from fashion watch brands to a proper Swiss automatic (just bought s Steinhart diver) and at the same time your dad switches from Tissot Le Locle to fashion watch 😂
Another vote for the Tissot Classic Dream. Beautiful, accurate and classy. Don't forget vintage Timex and Bulova. Some look as nice as an Omega for a fraction of the costs. Many times better than cheap fashion watches.
I'm a new subscriber to your channel and new to watches overall. Thanks to your content I bought 2 Citizen watches today. One for myself (Citizen Brycen) and one for my wife (Citizen Chandler) and avoided Fashion Watches. I honestly thought watches like Boss/Michael Kors etc.... were high end watches and were even better than traditional brands haha. Well now I'm much more aware thanks to you buddy!
Just came across you channel , I knew all of those cheap brands just because of their marketing , they are doing awesome job on promoting these crap. I am a watch guy , was one after I got a Vacheron Constantin when I was 10 by my father , since then I just can't live without watches and think that it is the best accessory men can own. These swiss watch makers you mentioned are great , but they need to invest more in advertisements on youtube and instagram so that people get interested in them. 2 brands I love and can recommend are Tissot and Jaque Lemans , they are both great in that under 500$ range , also it's worth mentioning in 500-1000 range one of my favorites is Frederique Constant of course they make more expensive watches too but have quite a few in that range too , the quality is outstanding and feels like 5-10k$ for sure. Thanks for sharing ! Nick
You could say the Iphone is exactly like these Chinese watches with promotion. Because I know that £900 for a phone with no headphone jack or memory card expansion slot is fraud! hahaha
TGV, love the passion, little over a year ago I was sporting an Armani fashion piece which I thought was great at first (Xmas pressie from the Mrs)Eventually appreciating a couple of timepieces my old man has and watching your vids I've now got a moonwatch on it's way, a seamaster 30 vintage, Hamilton khaki field and an eye on a skx 031, think a will always now have a passion for real watch brands, thanks for showing me the light. Keep up the good work .
chrisdiscodude I'm working on my friend too. He is hoping to get two $50 chronographs from amazon. It's my job to convince him that a mechanical piece would be better. (Time to go send pictures of watch movement to him)
I bought a rolex oyster datejust, stainless w/a blue face in 1988 at the factory in Lucerne. maybe the smartest thing I ever did. I was not wealthy but my wife and I had saved to go to Europe and the rolex was my souvenir, to my self, of this very special vacation. (I dont normally self indulge) I was a police detective in a large southern city and a rolex was something of a status symbol there. after the exchange rate, I paid slightly over $900.00 and they are over 6 grand now. I wore the watch all of the time for years but I now wear it for special occasions only. However, every since I purchased this time piece, I never fail to look at it and think of that vacation. If you go to Europe (assuming you dont live there are travel often) for vacation, by a fine watch while you are there as your souvenir of the trip and then wear the watch and remember. thanks for your very interesting videos
I agree completely I'm 16 and I love watches I have a watch collection I even have a watch page on Instagram and I feel like I'm the only person in my school and generation that appreciates watches great video as always
Thank you Connor, I am glad you "get it" and enjoy the hobby. It is a shame to hear others at your school do not. But at least it makes it more special to you, you are the horologically enlightened one among them ;-) Best regards, TGV
The Urban Gentry , thanks for the response and I never looked at it that way I guess it is special. I agree completely that people say that they can just check there phones for time, I literally hear that constantly. A phone cannot display character but a watch can! Have a good one TGV
Hey tgv. One year ago I bought a sekonda watch and then I watched a few of your videos and it inspired me to buy another watch. I bought the Casio Duro and I couldnt be happier. Thanks a lot!
Man, a true hipster should be wearing a vintage Russian mechanical like a Vostok Amphibia or a Raketa Kopernik (though not a hipster, I have the latter myself but it needs servicing)
what about Fossil? It's a very popular brand here, especially in my country (The Netherlands). I see it being worn by many people, young to old. i feel like that's truly one of the more affordable kind of fashionable watches while still appealing to a lot of people. They position themselves really well, also at the smartwatch side.
twowheeler1000 yeap, I'm a huge fan of Fossil timepieces. For a student like me, they are probably one of the best choices for affordable quality watches.
twowheeler1000 to me fossil is like, im cool but not that cool. It's still a fashion watch but a little higher quality. Still a shit sandwich, just not a soggy one.
That's why I love this channel, pure passion about watches a real prophet in the area, watch brands should be listening to this man. He makes us buy a lot of watches 💸😀
maybe these traditional watch brands like seiko, citizen and orient should market more towards the younger generation by sponsoring youtube men's fashion channels like alpha m, rmrs, tmf and lots others.
EXCELLENT point! That would be amazing, what is TMF? I am know the first two well, great guys.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
TMF is teachingmensfashion hosted by Jose Zuniga. On these fashion channels all you hear is MVMT, The Fifth, DW etc etc.. i havent seen a single men's fashion channel sponsored by classic watch brands.
Teaching Men Fashion channel.
TMF promoted Don Kylne, a small independent watchmaker with some pretty decent watches
He promotes anything.
I'm 25, never had a watch. I didn't even know that watches could work without a battery. :/
My girlfriend wanted to get me a MVMT watch for Christmas, so I told her to wait for me to do a little research first.
C D J Dude I got the same watch just yesterday, it’s so beautiful
It could be too late, but I think bambino gen 2 ver 2 or 4 is a awesome choice :((
+-30 seconds per day is accurate enough for most users. If you really want the accurateness, you will not use a quartz, but your smartphone instead.
I like how he talks about a 1000 dollar Omega the same way he talks about a 10 dollar Casio. That's why I watch TGV.
I have respect for anyone wearing a Casio, Invicta not so much.
Casio watches are the best of the best
GOD TIER
i think its really amazing how passionate this man is about watches
yeah i really like that about him. Him and the guy from watchfinders UK really made me interested in watches
anshul I agree...I like the watchfinder guy too!
😂
The industry should hire him to do stuff like this.
I just watched an entire video from Alpha M advertising MVMT watches and It was met by a huge backlash from the viewers. I'd like to thank Urban Gentry for spreading the right information for new watch fans so that they won't fall for the aggressive marketing of these fashion watch brands.
He is a low class sell out .
Beta M is a scumbag sell out
Anyone that markets those watches gets unsubscribe from me. Sad to do it to Ed Bolian but I expected way more from him than schlepping for Vincero.
Hopefully by now you've figured that out by yourself, but you'll only improve yourself by stopping to follow that tool.
I love your positive thinking, excellent point and comment,
Thank you for sharing that.
Best regards,
TGV
I love my Seikos and Citizens. I also like Aulta's offerings. I bought the Paipo white model and put a vintage-style strap on it for work. Cheap, durable, and it's a nice homage to the 60's Heuer Carrera watches.
At this point, DW owners look like watch enthusiast in the vast ocean of Apple watches you see everywhere
Exactly I own a Fortis watch and hardly see any of them here
agree, it is nice to be away from the pack but even nicer when somebody knows what it is on your wrist and you have that moment of mutual appreciation. They are indeed art pieces.
I have not worn a watch since I was 12 and broke the crystal. I just turned 60 and you introduced me to the Seiko sarb035. I bought it and am very happy. Now I want the Rolex oyster 114300 rhodium when I retire.
Great show always!!
I bought that exact watch when I turned 60. In fact, I'm wearing it right now as I type this!
I’m 16 and I’ve bought at longines hydro conquest 41mm about 4 months ago, saw it about a year and a half ago and said to myself “would love to own one one day” I said fuck it and started saving, it took me about a year to buy it and it’s my most valued possession.
Great for you!!! Im also 16, I saved up and invested in sinn 104 st sa I
Impressive! With that much appreciation and dedication you are going to achieve great things in life.
3 years later, i hope you still are going after your dreams without simping for temporary humans you come across. Keep it up, mate.
*I like how you are just excited by a $10 Casio as you would a $10,000 Rolex!*
*Some horologists like to look down on Casio, or any quartz watch especially if it's a digital watch on top of that.*
Casios are the bomb lol
Casio is god tier can’t beat them
I was considering gettinng a MVMT watch, but after watching this guys (and some other) videos I’m getting an orient bambino. Thanks.
Good choice brother!
Damn we have a new fellas in our club bois
les gooo
I also watched like 5 hours of Teddy B. and Urban Gentry and ordered an Orient Bambino II and a Seiko 5. Best entry level watches 💪💪
Best regards
A fellow subscriber
Hello. Im also loved watches and im 14 years old. Its been a year now. Have you still love watches?
Nice grammar for that age honestly.
The Sheepdog his main language is probably Japanese so don’t be so harsh.
illuminati win How’s that being harsh? I literally said his grammar was good.
(both bought with my own mney)
Im planning on paying off the bambino before i go for the next treasures,
Thank You TGV for saving me and introducing me to the watch world.
p.s, sorry for my english
Forty Seven same for me, I was 16 when I got my first watch, the bambino. Due to watching his video on it I fell in love with the hobby
Forty Seven dude you just tempted me to buy a f91 w with my own money
Forty Seven English is great. I went through a similar phase
My friend got a timex weekender so I decided to top him and get a Rolex datejust. Now I own over 33 watches for every occasion. That's my story:)
Check out Invicta. I like their styles myself and they seem to be a Western brand. Just a suggestion. Good luck with your journey.
@@prometheanhealing3942 Invicta is a Japanese brand
@@Zzzzalazar no its not, its a Swiss brand that started to put Japanese made Quartz into their products.
Alternatives @ 14:00

savior!
Thank you
Just picked up a Coach Bleeker today.
no casio? G-shock and pro trek are my most favorite watches!
Yeah, he should have added casio. That casio duro and the gshocks are pretty good also.
*$5 Miyota 1L22 quartz movement to be precise.
So glad to hear,
Thank you Derek, enjoy the hobby!
Best regards,
TGV
Derek smith Nice! I'm 16 and got into horology about a year ago.
Why?
It's just so freaking cool
Lol
The Revanchist agreed ;)
Derek smith I'm 15 and I have a Speedmaster and a vintage Tudor Prince Oysterdate and I haven't seen anyone my age with something that isn't a gshock or fashion watch
Well most likely due to the fact that no one your age has 3,000 dollars plus worth of income, you're lucky to inherit such beautiful timepieces.
You made your purchasing decision based on something more substantial than a single full-page ad in a magazine or website? ; )
One thing to note is that a significant amount of fashion brands (like Armani, Michael Kors, Burberry, etc.) are produced by Fossil Group.
Fernando Melo fossil even advertises that fact on their website.
And it's not bad watches. They're fun and fashionable. It's like the Zara of watches and it's fine. I don't know the hate.
DenshoGiallo they do not live up to their price, that's all
You need much more money for a Armani than for a Fossil, but have less (with luck the same) quality.
Thank you Shauqi :D
Very much appreciated.
Best regards,
TGV
I bought a DW years ago and I gave it away recently and bought a Nomos Tangente. Best decision ever. Winding my Nomos is a ritual and the quality is just phenomenal.
This 76 year old has loved watches for ever but got fed up with battery replacement but have now discovered eco-drive and rediscovered automatics. Keep up the excellent work....
The first watch I bought was a mvmt. I don't wear it much anymore but it did get me into watches, now I'm saving to get a datejust!
Well, that is the most important thing! Good luck for the DJ, you can't go wrong with one.
Thank you Robert,
Best regards,
TGV
I feel like a bumpkin with my $16 Casio I got on Amazon. I like it tho. It's gold tone, has a lil cat on the white face and a brown leather strap.
I want that watch!
22OrangeGirl The price went up a bit since I bought it, but here is the link. I contributed some product photos as well. www.amazon.com/Casio-Womens-Leather-watch-LTP1094Q7B8/dp/B000VH36QM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511053523&sr=8-1&keywords=casio+cat+watch
I still want the Snoopy watch my mum refused to buy.
That Casio is still better than those dVV and move watches
I still cry over my Casio calculator watch I lost back in the 80's. :P
Love your passion! And loved the fact that you just don't bash on the fashion watches but rather educate us on why the reputable watch makers are better and on a totally different level.
Quick story:
I was with some co-workers and wearing my "current favorite" watch the Tudor Black Bay Bronze. One of my co-workers said to me, "nice watch, is that a Fossil?" My wife looked at me and immediately started laughing.

Sucked. In.

Blue
minute/hour hands, roman numerals, small date window @ 6 o'clock.
How fascinating, and you make a great point about the design.
Thank you for sharing that,
Best regards,
TGV
I agree with the snobs making it daunting to get into being a watch enthusiast, I know a lot of guys who try to maul you if you show interest in anything other than omega etc or can't afford a 4 figure watch which is pretty ridiculous since people have to start somewhere.
good points
At the end of the day wearing a watch has to meet the needs of the user. I grew up with the traditional watches but the big change came with the Casio digital watches. You could do so much more like setting alarms but in the end the digital display really bugged me. Then with computers & mobile phones I realised that time was all around me and watches seemed to lose their appeal and I learned to live without them. You could say I was rejecting consumerism and saying I don't need a watch to define me. But now (thanks to your channel) I am coming back and just enjoying selecting watches that I like whether they are functional & practical or just have a particular look or style that appeals to me.
Thank you. Freedom is the thing.
that's why I'm so pissed at the Swiss watches brands. they don't communicate enough to the younger generation on having a piece of horological history
I think the older generations should teach the younger generations about horological history. My uncle did that and so did my father
I think swatch looks pretty modern
john m the average “old” person has fairly new worth as well -I know plenty of people in late 20’s and 30’s with Rolex
heres how it goes.
In that case my follow up video on 10 affordable alternatives to DW sound perfect for you!
Enjoy and happy hunting, thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
frederique is bringing vacheron style at an affordable price which i somewhat have a problem with despite the fact im looking at a couple because lets face it i wont be getting one in this lifetime lol.
wow didn't expect a response from you, but i appreciate it and will take a look. im developing my taste still and im just into dress watches more than sports watches so i can appreciate the design of them. and the irony is when i bought the DW i thought i was getting a good watch and its just not the case.
The first thing i notice when i meet new people is the watch they are wearing (if they are wearing one)!
another man buying watches for you is BANANAS!
Best regards,
TGV
Tim Schubardt I'm 18, and am always having to explain to friends how I justify wearing a watch when I have a phone. I literally ordered a stienhart ocean 1 about 30min ago.
Tim Schubardt same basic generation here. (16)
I have always liked watches but now I'm obsessed........to the great disapproval of my friends.
Lol
Tim Schubardt I love em :) theres still hope!
Tim Schubardt a lot more kids at my high school are wear Seikos and G-Shocks so, my generation is starting to get into it more :)
My personal favorite is the Navitimer :)
Hopefully its good taste :)
I use to wear a rose gold MVMT, then I stumbled across your channel and I got rid of my MVMT for a SKX009
YESSSSSS!!! Congrats on the upgrade and may it serve you well.
That makes my day, enjoy.
Thank you Max,
Best regards,
TGV
Man I am so lucky that I stumbled upon your channel. 6 months ago you made me consider getting a SARB033 and boy I couldn't have been more happier! Love the black dial with the green Hirsch strap
You need an upgrade. MVMT and such brands got big by internet marketing on social media. Way overpriced and poor quality. Get your self and great quality watch now.
Max Andrews good man!! 👍
Or 'fashion styles' I would love to buy a watch from those brands but I never seen to find a style I actually like
NOMOS.
Search more
Alex T Orient Bambino and Tissot Le Locle come to mind as a bit more fashion watch like.
He showed good watches with modern style like the Tissot Everytime.
What’s your style? If it’s the Dw minimal style you like, there’s the Casio Sapphire, Timex Fairfield, Orient Bambino or Maestro, etc
Hi TGV,
Just wanted to let you know you're doing a great job.

Syed Ali
That truly makes my day to hear that!
I will be in the UK later this year,
Thank you Farhan, wear those watches with pride.
Best regards,
TGV
Farhan Ali he did the same thing to me took me from the dark side and into the light :D
Fantastic and wonderful watches that no one is really paying attention to.
i’ve got 5 swatches and i never even knew they were worth keeping until i saw its value and meaning from your channel! thank you sm 🥺

I got my DW for a quid... Gave it away to someone I dont like :D
LOL, Thank you Bruce.
Best regards,
TGV
Take a look at the Sea-Gull. Beautiful mechanical chrono with impeccable history.
Thank you Gary, greatly appreciated and I love your line up, you have great taste. Keep enjoying the journey!
Best regards,
TGV
I've done a LOT of looking, and settled on Hamilton h32596551 Jazzmaster on looks, as well as pedigree - now looking for best price. Thanks for the advice though boyraceuk
Gary Sleep -The jazz master is an attractive watch in a good size. But, look into the Swatch Group story, basically an investment group that raided the swiss watchmaking industry when it was weak due to a double whammy (quartz and mid-late 70s recession). The group then set about eliminating ompetition all while proclaiming to have saved the Swiss watchmaking industry. Look into Swatch Group, they own the Hamilton brand, and decide if that's the kind of company you want to support.
maybe consider a seagul 1963?
Colleague at work could not understand why I laughed when she said my Seiko SKX009 was an Argos special compared to her husbands Versachi was far superior, and what do Japanese know about quality watch making
Scott Hayes the Japanese know how to appropriate things from other places in the world and match or exceed them. It’s quite amazing.
@john m dont forget citizen with their goddamn eco drive.
Your colleague sounds like she knows everything… Just ask her and she’ll tell you! 😂😂😂

We are truly kindred spirits, Sir! Your best video yet... I'll leave my house without pants on before I'll leave without my watch. (Wrist check right now: Glycine Combat GoldenEye). And to respond to your query at the top of the video, YES! The Bond Nato strap works beautifully.
Thank you so much Rick :D
Very flattered and glad you like the Nato :D

wrist watch check Seiko orange monster SRP315 😍 love it
Daniel Wellington sounds like the name of a meat distributor somewhere downtown... my advice, if you are looking for a fashion watch, at least buy a swatch. No research necessary. If you want to join the hobby, take some time to learn a bit and dive in!
LOL Thank you, totally agree on the latter especially.
Best regards,
TGV
I think you are thinking about Beef Wellington!!!! LOL. Now you have made me hungry
Oh and I had a brightly coloured Swatch and also a Pop Swatch 😂
I’m 18 years old. My first automatic watch, an snk809, is arriving next week :)
Good choice! I have it in black and love it!
“It seems horology has sort of missed that generation...” lol It’s funny because it’s true.
Missed my generation as well (Gen Z) its either fitbit, apple watch or empty wrist
My 2 cents
AdequaZ how do you check to see if it was made in Malaysia or japan?
Just pointing out that almost all SKX are made in Malaysia. The J series is for selling in the Japaese home market, not proclaiming it was made their. The K series (malaysia) is identical in every way possibly including the assembly line it came off. This is according to Seiko. Wear your K with pride.
Matt Reeves why are you talking about the “k” like people think the “j” is better?
My first “watch” purchase was a Michael Kors watch I used to be very proud of. I recently purchased a Gen2 V1 Bambino and it’s changed the way I feel about time keeping. Keep up the videos bud.
I love how you mentioned the casio f91w. I just bought 2 of them on amazon because I needed a practical everyday watch for work.

What do you design?
I agree that they should be bringing in some new designers to create new stories so that decades from now we can have icons from our time.
Most of the latest fashion designs are from classic swiss watches too... for example the DW Bristol has similar design with Rado Coupole.
Oh my God, finally... Thank you so much for adressing this topic TGV, great video!

Getting my first seiko chronograph for my birthday in a couple of weeks thanks for your great advise!
Fantastic Sam, I beat you will love it.
May I ask which one?

I would have recommended she saved $50 and got me another Marlin Automatic from Timex - a wonderful little gem!
Hi I'm an 16 year old from Germany
And I love my Longines hydroconquest and my best friend have Breitling but not to show of money but we love the joy of waring an automatic whatch

Every time you show te SARB033 my finger is on the buy button, how long can I ressist 😁
Another great video Sir.

`Anthony
Anthony P Hundreds of dollars? Lol. Spend over $1000 to get a good watch.
@Zestypanda
Stop being a watch snob! A good watch is one that tells time reliably for someones budget. A $50 Casio Quartz watch is more accurate and cheaper to maintain (just replace battery every couple years) than almost any watch over $1,000!
I have Fossil watches, and they are great! Even if they are fashion watches. I don't think that we should be so categorical.
I agree, no room for snobbery
Thank you.
are Nixons good? I just got one
I'd rather wear a fake Panerai or IWC than a real DW.
Hell even replicas have better quality and movements than that shit.
And renewing the batteries of the other quartz watches and wearing them as well... several compliments included ;)
so fashion watches were the door opener to an old and new world for me (and definitely for many, many others)
It feels weird when you switch from fashion watch brands to a proper Swiss automatic (just bought s Steinhart diver) and at the same time your dad switches from Tissot Le Locle to fashion watch 😂
Feels bad
Oh no...
Another vote for the Tissot Classic Dream. Beautiful, accurate and classy. Don't forget vintage Timex and Bulova. Some look as nice as an Omega for a fraction of the costs. Many times better than cheap fashion watches.
Louis Meluso Just bought my first watch today, a Tissot Classic Dream, she really is beautiful.
Daniel Wellington also created Beef Wellington...#FunFact
Wu-Blood Kin nice and crusty in the outside and kind of raw on the inside. I see the pattern.
Because I know that £900 for a phone with no headphone jack or memory card expansion slot is fraud! hahaha
did your dad give you a vacheron constantin whn you were 10? jesus
they also have to design watches that dont look like old man shit
TGV, love the passion, little over a year ago I was sporting an Armani fashion piece which I thought was great at first (Xmas pressie from the Mrs)Eventually appreciating a couple of timepieces my old man has and watching your vids I've now got a moonwatch on it's way, a seamaster 30 vintage, Hamilton khaki field and an eye on a skx 031, think a will always now have a passion for real watch brands, thanks for showing me the light. Keep up the good work .
398 people got ripped off and is now mad lol
676 now
Great video tgv! I'm definitely going to share this video to my friend who I'm trying to convince to get a bambino as he's wearing a dw now.
FANTASTIC!!! Spread the word my freind!
I hope he gets one,
Thank you Chris,
Best regards,
TGV
chrisdiscodude I'm working on my friend too.
(I dont normally self indulge)
I was a police detective in a large southern city and a rolex was something of a status symbol there. after the exchange rate, I paid slightly over $900.00 and they are over 6 grand now.
But at least it makes it more special to you, you are the horologically enlightened one among them ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
The Urban Gentry , thanks for the response and I never looked at it that way I guess it is special. I agree completely that people say that they can just check there phones for time, I literally hear that constantly. A phone cannot display character but a watch can! Have a good one TGV
dont worry about the others... it just means your ahead of the game!
200 dollars for an skx?! I just purchased an skx007j for 318... ouch.
New subscriber to the channel, love your videos!
Best,
Thank you Martin and welcome aboard,
Sadly the "J" versions are getting very rare, enjoy it and be proud of it!
Best regards,
TGV
I picked up a Skx009 a few months ago for $150 on eBay, so there's a chance to find a gem out there.
The Urban Gentry Thank you, and will do! Look forward to new videos.
MikeB93 Yeah, I am new to the watch community and am excited to continue to learn. I am sure the sxk will be worth it!
Martin Saenz It's a great addition to any collection!
They do make some reliable and great looking watches and if u can get them at the outlets they are for a good deal
twowheeler1000 to me fossil is like, im cool but not that cool. It's still a fashion watch but a little higher quality. Still a shit sandwich, just not a soggy one.
That's why I love this channel, pure passion about watches a real prophet in the area, watch brands should be listening to this man. He makes us buy a lot of watches 💸😀
I thought you said "they bought their first SAAB..." and got really confused.
