Very refreshing to see a young fella like yourself giving us some straightforward advice 😊
I learnt that I don't need to get too worried about my 6013 rods while travelling here Downunder in Australia 👍
    Thanks heaps - Ted !!

I was getting ready to buy a rod oven, Think I'll just spend the money on rods instead. Thanks for making this and other videos.

We had a kid in high school who worked at roy Rogers in the mall and he used to bring in chicken, biscuits, and mashed potatoes into welding shop and we would heat stuff up in the rod oven. Good times!

I work offshore and the 7018s on one of the ships I was on were just stored in a steel locker. They didnt seem too worried about the moisture lol

Hydrogen embrittlement is a pretty well documented effect of moisture on 7018 rods.

Thanks for this vid. Kid. I've watched all your vids. Proud of you. Wish my brother would of picked up welding, instead he picked up the bottle. Anyway!
How would you weld a crack in grey cast iron Goulds water pump down in the base of the bowl, the bend of the bowl or the seam but not. I only have a flux core welder with E71T-GS - 0.030 Inch Blue Demond wire. But, after I use a grinding wheel to make a trench I was thinking of using a nickel rod along with the pass. I would heat it up first after its all grinded and cleaned and I have a trench and holes drilled at each end. I will put it in a sand bath for 24 hours after I am all done. But, it's not more than an 1/8" deep cast iron. The crack goes all the way through. Hair line 98% of crack to about a two to 3 hairs crack 2% of crack. LOL.
    1. Can I grind it out all the way through with a hole at each end of crack. I have been told not to go through the iron. But, there are no parts or anything on the other side that I have to be careful and not weld onto?
    2. With using the flux and rod can I just go at a speed until the pool fills up all in one pass? The crack is about half the size of the pumps diameter. 4-5 inches.
    3. Can I go the speed that would fill the trench then stop halfway or, (?, Distance of stop and go) Stitch it and come back before it cools all the way down to finish.
    4. I can only get to the outside of the cover. Its about 10 " in diameter.
    I only have one sht.
Please help don't judge because I am women. I have to get this done. Can't afford to be ripped off by someone else when I know I can do it We have no water. 3kids, and farm animals that need water.

That's a relief. One other myth question. People claim, that if a rod requires 2h in 300C than it's ok to do 4h in 150C? Is that correct? I understood, that if you care about the code or the process, you might as well follow it to the letter. I'm more interested in the theoretical aspect of it? Will for some chemical reason the flux not release water molecules in lower temperatures even if longer? Great video and Chanel btw!

Aaah, they dry out real quick when you strike the arc.

Hi I know this is old but you can buy electrodes in large 5KG boxes then you split the box in bundles then you wrap them with plastic wrap.

Moisture gets into plastic wrap. You could get them vacuum sealed if you know someone with a vacuum packaging machine. I get a butcher to do mine.

The right way to store stick electrodes is on the store shelf until you need them. Then go buy them.

@@topduk there hasn't been any run on welding rods here. You want 'em then you go buy 'em.
