All Australians should be concerned about what China is attempting to do throughout the Pacific. Every effort should be made to ensure China doesn't carryout MOUs with Pacific countries, especially PNG. China wants fishing rights within local waters and access to being able to establish military bases so they have the upper hand come the day China wants to flex their muscle and invade larger Nations. Dismissing China's right to fish in territorial waters is a huge mistake. China's fishing fleet is well over 200 vessels strong. In just one visit China can destroy the ecology of these Island Nation. China has a hist of strip fishing areas they visit. They have done it in the South China Sea.
Good! There is enough fish for everyone and nd China will surely prevail in their glorious objectives.
@@blokin5039 You don't understand. China strips the areas they fish in. Destroying and leaving the ocean bed a complete blank canvases. You can't destroy the ecology and expect everything to be okay. It's taken hundreds of thousands of years for the sea ecology to get where it is to day. You need to leave fish in the sea so they can keep multiplying. You need to leave coral reefs in place, not totally destroyed by Dragnet fish.
Destroying the living corals makes regeneration virtually impossible because coral being a living organism spawns annually to keep our reefs in existence. Without living coral to spawn, we will have no reefs in the future. With out the coral there is no homes or food for fish to thrive in.
You need to understand China's mentality. It isn't in there nature to fish for today and move to a new area tomorrow. Leaving what was there before they came, still intact. Instead, once their fishing fleet moves into an area, they keep fishing the same spot until it's harder. Dragnet fishing means they cast their nets out and drag them along the ocean floor.
They catch everything up in those nets. When the nets are reeled back in board their boats, they take what they want and toss everything back into the sea. Once they do that, everything they reject and throw back is dead, it can't keep producing. They only care about today, not about next year.
If they do this in the territorial waters of the Pacific Islands, the Islanders will have no food for many years to come, possible decades. They fish locally and responsibly to ensure there is food left for future generations. China has completely destroyed their own territorial waters which is why they keep having to fish thousands of kilometres outside of their own territorial waters.

Fiji gives Australia and New Zealand visa free travel to their country, yet ordinary Fijians need to apply for a Visa every time they need to travel to these countries. However Australia really needed to realise china was no friend so slowly it found new markets to replace China and that largely has been a very good thing. Then something unexpected occurred. It turned that china, especially in the field of resources, needed Australia more than Australia needed china. Australian coal is the highest quality coal in the world so it burns much hotter emitting less carbon than brown coal typically found in china. Furnaces made to burn black coal can't use brown coal. This caused rolling blackouts. Much of the band agricultural produce couldn't be easily replaced from other sources thus causing inflation and short supplies. In short China's markets couldn't adapt to the loss of quality produce from Australia. By this time Australia had found new markets and their economy had bounced back. The panda took on the kangaroo and was kicked back to were it came from.

There is only 1 super power today who controls all of the trade routes across the globe. It is nearly impossible for China to achieve super power status. They do not have the influence.
In order for China to be a super power, they need cultural strength which the US enjoys. The whole world speaks English, The US spreads it's culture through Hollywood, music, Google, UA-cam, Facebook. All of these top companies and brands have strong influence across the globe. The closest China have is Alibaba, Huawei.
Political and diplomatic strength are also required, for example, China started building a secret military port in UAE recently. The US found out about it, and they pressure UAE to cancel the construction. The US had the political power to stop the construction. They have the power to cripple nations with sanctions.
The US have an ideal geography(almost the whole continent to itself), the Pacific and Atlantic ocean separates the US from most major threats, invasion on the US soil would be suicidal as they have to cross vast ocean bodies while trying to transport their ground forces(tanks, heavy armored vehicles etc..) and trying to maintain their supply lines. US bordering neighbors are friendly and greatly outclassed in terms of military power. The US can project their military might anywhere in the world at full force without worrying about it's mainland being invaded. China can never do this without worrying about Russia, Japan and India, because of this China have to station large army, navy and airforce forces back home to defend the mainland which borders 14 different countries, they can not project all of their forces across the globe like how the US is able to do. The US mainland is continent like(controls the Pacific and Atlantic coasts), it is almost as if the US was born to project power because of it's ideal location, added to that the US have countless of allies and bases across the globe. China doesn't have this much of influence.
In order for China to have cultural influence worldwide, the world needs to speak and understand Chinese. China is bordering 14 countries, their forces will be spread out thin so will their $200 billion defense budget. China has 2 powerful nations bordering it, Russia and India. Ground forces will be stationed at these borders.
China has a massive standing army, the more troops you have, the more riffles and helmets are needed, because of the quantity, it will be costly. Compared to the US smaller number of troops, they get better quality equipment for the same amount of money.
China's GDP is large simply because of it's massive population, the US has a smaller population and a higher GDP per capita.
The population of China is aging because of the 1 child policy. Their manufacturing power will be reduced, and because of that, their economy will be affected. The US doesn't have this issue because the US is open to foreign talent. Also more automated manufacturing robots are being introduced worldwide, China's manufacturing power will be irrelevant. The West made China where it is today because of their manufacturing in China, they made China's economy rise, they also can make China's economy fall if they ever decide to remove their manufacturing from China to some other countries like India or Vietnam

There was no other hegemonic countries in the world then. USSR wasn't quite hegemonic, I should say. But now, the hegemon is being challenged, so everything China does, matters.
It’s about time that Taiwan regains control over its renegade western province (sometimes incorrectly referred to as mainland China) and restore the rule of law and wisdom in that renegade province. The people have suffered long enough.

There is no debt trap if you have read and accepted the agreement. China offers infrastructure which no other country does. Something is better than nothing. And at the end of the day poor countries have nothing. It is better to have a port build and owned by the Chinse than no port at all. At least locals have indirect economic benefit in providing labor, services and accomodations to chinese workers. It is also how China grew itself with foreign western investment. I think instead of starting an arms race the west and China should start an infrastructure race where they try to gain influence in other way than through military force by developing poor countries instead.
Debt trap is a myth. You pay interest when you borrow money. It is a simple as that. China's terms are more favourable than those offered by the West, and with little strings attached. China builds infrastructure. The US destroys everything on sight.

They even let afloat floaters with GPS guided monitors with nets included pass within our economic zone and we spotted 2 rugby fields that size and tons of tuna. chinese fishing is a global problem because they don't respect the rules of other countries. we need to address this globally. chinese fishermen once fished at north koreas water but without a second thought they were killed by north koreans but how come beijing did not react to it? simply because they trespass the border, right? but how come if these chinese fishermen will be killed in other countries, it will become a big issue and a big deal. its not fair, thats why we need to do something before we ourselves run out of fish to eat from our own respective terretories.
