The Righteous Brothers are the only musical act in history to have this song become a number one hit when it was first released, then become a number one again when the movie Ghost came out years later.
The late, great Bobby Hatfield with one of the best live vocal performances ever. This was on the Andy Williams Show in 1965. I remember watching it with my Mom and Grandma and we were all amazed. 50+ years later I was so happy to find it on YT, because in 1965 there was no way to record from tv so I had to be content with memories. This song has been performed by many before and after Bobby, but he owns it. Next check out (You're My) Soul and Inspiration. For more of Bill Medley, with a bit of Bobby, do I Just Wanna Make Love to You.
Bobby had a perfectly controlled 4 octave range. We're fortunate that his passion for music was in this genre. If he had wanted and trained for opera, he could have excelled as a world class tenor like Caruso or Pavarotti, which would have been great for opera fans, but the world would have lost a lesser known, but world class soul singer.
Plus the fact that the L.A. Dodgers wanted to recruit him, but thank the Lord he chose music. He said that a music career would last longer than baseball. Miss him, miss him, miss him....
No matter how many times I hear this song, I get cold chills. Slow danced to this one many times with my hubby, now married almost 49 years. Yep best song ever
This was sung LIVE in 1965 .. no auto-tune, no naked dancers, no smoke or mirrors ... just pure raw talent and blue-eyed soul ... Bobby had an amazing range of 4+ octaves! To find out how they got their name, watch this full performance in the Andy Williams Show ... ua-cam.com/video/FZZqf3AVJbE/v-deo.html ... enjoy! Righteous Brothers are two guys who are not actually brothers, they are a duo. But this is a solo song so they flipped a coin to see who would sing it .. this is Bobby Hatfield, and the other member of the duo was Bill Medley who arranged the music for this performance .. and he did so well with that, building up the music to the passionate end, so credit to Bill Medley too .. I also read that Bill Medley played the piano in the background for this song, and that Bobby sang this song while suffering from a head cold! This performance was done live, (with no auto-tune or other devices used by today’s musicians) and was better than the recorded studio version. Bobby suffered from stage fright and was particularly nervous in this performance because his parents were in the audience... you can see him bite his lip then grin at the end because he knew he nailed it!
I always love the surprised reactions to The Righteous Brothers. They prove that really good music is universal. I Wanna Make Love to You (that's the song title) is a blues standard and shows their flexibility in style.
I've read that comment so often how he was nervous about his mom being in the audience ♥️🔥 I did comedy as a double dog dare, my dad was there & the funniest dude I know (in real life, anyway😉) so I know what that kind of pressure feels like! Love this "soooo much", thanks for checking it out!

@@dubzer0649 Slow dance to Unchained Melody, our boyfriends treated us like ladies, men didn't call their girlfriends b...... or other derogatory names. I'm glad I grew up in that era. Teen in the 50's, 20's in the 60's, great music, plus Bobby and Bill. It was the best of times. I would have those days again. At the age of 78, I can only listen to the greats of those days, but I am so grateful that we have them. I miss Bobby so much.

This first appeared in the 1955 movie Unchained, starring the former football player Elroy "Crazy Legs" Hirsch. The movie takes place in a prison, and the song was written for the movie to reflect the mood of the prisoners as they wait for time to pass. Alex North wrote the music, Hy Zaret wrote the lyrics, and a black singer named Todd Duncan sang the version in the movie. Bobby Hatfield, who had a higher voice than Bill Medley, sang lead on this track. It was his idea to record it, since Medley and Hatfield were each allowed to choose a song to sing as a solo vocalist on their albums. As Medley tells us, Hatfield knew the song well, and was a big fan of the Roy Hamilton and Al Hibbler versions of the song. The famous climax of this song where Bobby Hatfield sings the high "I need your love" line wasn't how the song was written. In our interview with Bill Medley, he explained that Hatfield did two takes of the song, then left. He would often reconsider his performance and come back later to change it, and that's what he did on this track, returning to ask Medley if he could make an edit. This was no easy task, since with a maximum of four tracks to work with, you had to record over part of the original take, but Medley accommodated and Hatfield delivered that soaring vocal line. Said Medley: "I punched that in and he left. He said, 'No, I can do it better.' And I said, 'No, you can't.' [Laughs] And I think it's a big part of that song." When the movie Ghost brought this song back to the charts, it marked the second time a Patrick Swayze film boosted the fortunes of Bill Medley. In 1987, Medley's duet with Jennifer Warnes, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," became a #1 US hit when the film it was written for, Dirty Dancing (also starring Swayze), took off at the box office. In 2003, Hatfield died of a heart attack at age 63.

Not trying to promote or say your's is bad just trying to get the info out there! Righteous Brothers did try to do songs to help make it more pc for black people to have their music heard! So they would cover them and hopefully people would look up the original version! But yeah, this was the most famous song they did!

This song was originally written for a 1955 movie about a prison and love lost and song by Todd Duncan. The Righteous Brothers made it famous; bonafide hit and is a "prison song" to this day.
The song was written for a 1955 movie called Unchained, about a guy in prison who couldn’t wait to get back to his girl. The guy who wrote the lyrics refused to put any of that stuff into the song so it became a general love song, sung by many before the Righteous Brothers did it .. but nobody else did it like this, altho many other singers covered the song later (including Elvis) and based their versions of it on this version by The Righteous Brothers ... Bobby sang another version for the movie “Ghost “ and this revived interest in the 1965 studio version (this one) which was then re-released. The Righteous Brothers and this song made history by having two different versions of the same song in the Top20 of the charts at the same time, competing against each other! Unfortunately, Bobby had already passed away when this duo was inducted into the RocknRoll Hall of Fame .. but his buddy Bill Medley paid tribute to Bobby by singing Unchained Melody, in a slow, gentle and very touching way.
The most played Prom song of all time. [btw this song appeared in the Movie "Ghost" starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore] In that movie, Whoopie Goldberg's character got possessed by the ghost of Patrick Swayze's character, and made out with Demi Moore's character. Probably 1 Million babies or more were created when this song was playing. [probably the same number of babies made while ACDC - You Shook Me All Night Long was playing in the back ground]. Another ACDC song for bro to listen to!
The song was written between 1954 and 1955. In 1955 there were 4 versions by 4 separate artist. When the Righteous Brothers got this it's been theirs, well more Bobby Hatfield's; his version is the standard that many are compared to. Both Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley had songs in US Films, Bobby's unchained Medley appeared in Ghost with Demi Moore Whoopi Goldberg, and Patrick Swayze and Bill Medley's sang Time of my life with Jennifer Warnes, Starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey and Cynthia Rhodes ( hell of a soundtrack ) On this live performance his Mother ( possibly dad ) is in the audience. At the end he bites his lip as he knows he nailed this song. Both Bobby and Bill do an album each of their own songs, both wanted to do this song for their album; Bobby won the coin toss, after hearing this version, Bill Medley is reported to ask Phil Spector; " What am I supposed to do after this?" Phil Spector's reply... Take the money to the bank. There are thousands of covers of this song, sung by Elvis, Robson and Jerome many, many others many come close, but none beat Bobby's rendition. Basic history: from Wikipedia: They began performing together in 1962 in the Los Angeles area as part of a five-member group called the Paramours . In 1964 music producer Phil Spector came across the Righteous Brothers when they performed in a show at the Cow Palace in Daly City, CA. where one of Spector's acts, The Ronettes, lead singer Veronica Bennett (later known as Ronnie Spector), was also appearing. The rest is history. "Unchained Melody" is a 1955 song with music by Alex North and lyrics by Hy Zaret. North wrote the music as a theme for the little-known prison film Unchained (January 1955), hence the song title. Todd Duncan sang the vocals for the film soundtrack. It has since become a standard and one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century, most notably by the Righteous Brothers. According to the song's publishing administrator, over 1,500 recordings of "Unchained Melody" have been made by more than 670 artists, in multiple languages. Of the hundreds of recordings made, the Righteous Brothers'( Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley ) version in July 1965, with a solo by Bobby Hatfield, became the jukebox standard after its release. Hatfield changed the melody in the final verse and many subsequent covers of the song are based on his version. The Righteous Brothers recording achieved a second round of great popularity when it was featured in the film Ghost in 1990. In 2004, it was Number 27 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.
I own thanks so much for all the information I love reading these long comments very informative. Also thanks for watching this video I appreciate it and I will def check out more. Watched another reaction to this classic perfect song. At the end the guy said, "That wasn't applause at the end. It was the sound of panties a bra hitting the stage. Lol! Have read he was nervous during this live show. His parents were in the audience.
Bobby had severe stage fright which had to have been worse as his parents were there during this Andy Williams show performance. Bobby had a *four octave range* . What you seeing her is complete CONTROL in his singing. He didn't have to *strain* his high notes. Their song "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" holds the record as most song plays ever on the radio. If you REALLY want to listen to a true blue eyed soul listen to "I Just Want to Make Love With You". The ladies listen and get blushed.
Listen to You've Lost that loving feeling by them and also You'll never walk alone. Thr first song held the record for being played the most on American radio history. No other song has surpassed it in the 20th century. It has over 8 million plays and counting. There are so many look up Righteous Bros You'll be surprised they were together from 1963 to 2003 other than a few breaks for personal reasons. How many Duo's can say that.
You might like to have a listen to this from one of my favourites. Them - Baby Please Don't Go.mp4 is a live performance they did in France in the early/mid 60's I think. The band was called Them & they were from Belfast, same as me. The lead singer - Van Morrison - went on to have greater success as a solo artist. I'm not much younger than Van & the records from Them were a big part of my childhood. Gloria & Brown Eyed Girl were 2 more of my favourites from the band.
They flipped a coin to decide which of them would get to sing this. Bobby Hatfield (Rip, last year)) won but didn't know that his mom was to be in the audience that night. He was so worried that he wouldn't be able to nail it. Watch that little lip-bite right before his smile at the end. He knew he did. His blue eyes is what gained them the moniker blue-eyed soul. In that year, when black radio stations found out they were white they stopped playing their songs!
Hope you guys enjoyed

Ok I’ll def check out that Johnny cash song I know it’s on my list but I’ll try and get to it sooner
On the same TV show, Bobby (who has footwork, too!) and Bill joined host Andy Williams for a fun "What'd I Say." (UA-cam channel: yootami)
I’ll check this out thanks for that
He made that look easy. Beautiful.
Facts
A couple more “He Don’t Love You Like I Love You”......my personal favorite “The Angels Listened In “ (incredible baritone sax).....”Rock n Roll Heaven”.....
Thanks for the suggestions I’ll def check some of these out
Great voices they have. Was great to hear words and a voice instead of noise pulition of instruments

Bobby Hatfield singing Summertime. Wow! Blue Eyed soul.
Love watching your reaction you seemed to be really enjoying the song and you did not keep talking your facial expressions does it for me love janet UK x
Yes loved this song and glad you are enjoying stay blessed
lol after watching the other one I knew this one would get you! This is their most famous one!!! This was the best they did and probably one of the best of the genre! Look forward to seeing more of your reactions glad I came across your channel!!!
like I said they did what they did to show the music was good! I hope you don't get upset but going to put a link in here I hope you check out this guy tells the story of the song and like I said showcasing stuff that wasn't theirs the best they could, but, here it is ua-cam.com/video/chiwHSpazrw/v-deo.html the guy even shows the original version! Not trying to promote or say your's is bad just trying to get the info out there! Righteous Brothers did try to do songs to help make it more pc for black people to have their music heard! So they would cover them and hopefully people would look up the original version! But yeah, this was the most famous song they did!
Thanks for watching this one yes I was really feeling this one. I appreciate you being here
Thanks for the comment and link
@@dubzer0649 you're welcome I just love spreading the love and reaction videos are all about that. Expanding the mind and views of what you see in the world so I try to help when I can, eh!
I'm new to the channel but one that a lot of people reacted to was alien ant farm smooth criminal and those guys fanboy a lot and have so many references to Michaels career I don't think any reaction person has caught all of them yet!
A good live performance is like fire. And, IMHO, people need to say godspeed more. Let's bring it back. New sub.
Thanks for watching and thanks for being here I appreciate you and I totally agree
This song was originally written for a 1955 movie about a prison and love lost and song by Todd Duncan. The Righteous Brothers made it famous; bonafide hit and is a "prison song" to this day.
Oh ok that’s cool didn’t know that
I love learning stuff about the righteous brothers
Love everyone's first listen of the incomparable Bobby.
Man this was amazing
Love this song great reaction.
Thanks for watching
A lot of babies were made listening to these dudes
Haha totally could see that
love this song!!
Glad you enjoy
He was only 25 yrs old when he did this performance live.
Man that’s young and he nailed it
The song was written for a 1955 movie called Unchained, about a guy in prison who couldn’t wait to get back to his girl.
I'm way late to this, but Bobby was there for their induction into the Hall of Fame. He passed away about 8 months later.
@@RobinBanksNotThatOne Yes, the induction was in March 2003, and he passed away in Nov. 2003.
The most played Prom song of all time.
[btw this song appeared in the Movie "Ghost" starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore]
In that movie, Whoopie Goldberg's character got possessed by the ghost of Patrick Swayze's character, and made out with Demi Moore's character.
Probably 1 Million babies or more were created when this song was playing. [probably the same number of babies made while ACDC - You Shook Me All Night Long was playing in the back ground].
Another ACDC song for bro to listen to!
Haha 😂 1 million Babies huh
Great reaction. I like your positive vibe. Thank you for saying blessed twice, it made me subscribe.
Thanks for being here I appreciate it
Yes indeed … Righteous😊💕
They are amazing no doubt
Love your enthusiastic reaction to this video!
BEAUTIFUL...
Yes 🙌
The song was written between 1954 and 1955. In 1955 there were 4 versions by 4 separate artist.
When the Righteous Brothers got this it's been theirs, well more Bobby Hatfield's; his version is the standard that many are compared to.
Both Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley had songs in US Films, Bobby's unchained Medley appeared in Ghost with Demi Moore Whoopi Goldberg, and Patrick Swayze and Bill Medley's sang Time of my life with Jennifer Warnes, Starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey and Cynthia Rhodes ( hell of a soundtrack )
On this live performance his Mother ( possibly dad ) is in the audience.
At the end he bites his lip as he knows he nailed this song.
Both Bobby and Bill do an album each of their own songs, both wanted to do this song for their album; Bobby won the coin toss, after hearing this version, Bill Medley is reported to ask Phil Spector; " What am I supposed to do after this?"
Phil Spector's reply... Take the money to the bank.
There are thousands of covers of this song, sung by Elvis, Robson and Jerome many, many others many come close, but none beat Bobby's rendition.
Basic history: from Wikipedia:
They began performing together in 1962 in the Los Angeles area as part of a five-member group called the Paramours .
I vaguely remember ghost but I do know the movie from seeing it when I was younger. I was born 1990 so stuff I saw in the 90s i sorta remember
Love love your reaction to this!
I’m glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching
Love And My Soul Inspiration by Righteous Brothers.
Actually done both and enjoyed them search Dub Zer0 righteous brothers I’m search bar
Watched another reaction to this classic perfect song. At the end the guy said, "That wasn't applause at the end. It was the sound of panties a bra hitting the stage. Lol! Have read he was nervous during this live show. His parents were in the audience.
He is so talented love this one and it coo that he was nervous and still killed it
Bobby had severe stage fright which had to have been worse as his parents were there during this Andy Williams show performance.
Dub zero.....you're a hero.
I appreciate you
I appreciate you
Pure master-class
Amazing voice love the righteous brothers
Women were "swooned" and men were astonished! 😲
Perfect way to word it
You Lost That Loving Feeling is an awesome song
I actually reacted to that
Luckily, somehow I came across your channel and I’m loving it right off the bat. Subscribed and alerted
Thanks for being here I appreciate it
R.I.P. Bobby your song lives on ! forever....
Great reaction.
Thanks I’m glad you enjoyed it
No backup singers and did this live baby!
They sang you lost that loving feeling is a classic from righteous brothers
SOUL AND INSPIRATION, Think you'd Like😉
Def gonna do that in a few days stay tuned
@@dubzer0649 Many Thanks, will be there God willing and God bless you!!!
