Yup I could. But we only use them when we can’t wedge and it has/needs to go in a certain direction. The reason I was wedging so much was because the undercut was too small. I should have made it bigger to that I wouldn’t have to wedge so much to get the tree past it’s tipping point.
Pink is recce from the engineers so doesn’t mean anything to us. Blue is stream ribbon from the engineers and also can mean trail if from the fallers. It’ll say “trail” or “stream” on it.
So sad that my kids will Never see that giant tree. There are none left in USA. The old growth forests in canada are going going going now. These should be protected as national parks. Very rare.

Nobody loves trees more than me but every tree gets old, dies, becomes a home for bugs that affect healthy trees and dead still standing timber attracts lightning, burning entire forests. We must harvest them before they get too old and rot. Have you ever planted a seedling and nursed it into a healthy, beautiful tree? I plant Incense cedars on my property cuz they smell so good too. Give it a try- you'll be happy you did! Trees are cool.

'we must harvest them before they get too old and rot' is hilarious. you understand that planet earth has been managing its forests for billions of years before humans appeared? the only thing needing managing is the profit margins of the owners and shareholders of the timber industry. planting a few saplings in your backyard doesn't do squat for the future of our species - leaving old growth forests untouched certainly will.

They’re after market dogs. They don’t come with any saw. You may need to special order them from Husqvarna or your local distributor. My local saw shop keeps them in stalk and I’ve always called them the “big dogs” hope that helps

How much would you charge me for felling lessons itd be worth every penny lol I have like 5 years experience doing tree work but I've only fell a handful of big trees

What a shame. I am no hippie or something. But cutting down the remaining ancient trees of our planet should be forbidden and punishable. We will never see this again, even if replanted the trees won't reach this age before the next logging crew comes and harvesting them in much younger age. This insatiable mankind really is the cancer of this planet. Only if the last tree is gone, the last natural ressources and environment are destroyed perhaps we will recognize what we have done and that we can't eat money but then it's too late. There is enough commercial forest to cover the demand of lumber and absolutely no need to cut these old beautiful trees. This is no offense, but we should be much more responsive and less disrespectful with nature.

And the volume being logged here is a lot less then in the heydays of the 20th century. There is also a lot of park land here in BC and we have one of the most responsible forestry industry in the world.

In this video it would be done with an excavator, with a grapple attachment instead of a bucket

You first need to get a falling certificate. The best route is to go through cagc.ca

You need your Falling certification to cut in BC. I do know Alaska has some big wood on their south coast area
