To those of you criticizing them for moving, smiling and "bobbing up and down,"Make a JOYFUL noise unto the Lord!" That is what they are doing and I love it! They remind me very much of the choir at Gesu Church in Milwaukee. I LOVE this song. YES! They are in God's house and they are singing. The smiles on their faces are a response to the music as well as to the words they are singing that they are actually listening to and to the meaning!
Just wanted to congratulate the ND Folk Choir for 1 MILLION VIEWS of this song. That's quite a feat and an accomplishment for a Catholic Church Hymn in today's times, quite honestly. It took some time, but this choir has done just that. This arrangement is just fantastic! The thing about this song and some of the other ones that are more contemporary and modern that we hear at mass today- that's all a result of Vatican II, way back in the 60s. The church wanted to move forward in this kind of a direction with mass hymns. This sort of thing was kind of the vision at that time. And I think it's a great thing. Celebrating the Lord should be a JOYOUS and HAPPY thing. And it is great to see the younger generation grasping that, and doing something with it, as we see here. Verse III and the Chorus still do it for me, sing it with me folks... Sing, sing a new song! Sing of the great day, when ALL will be one God WILL reign And we'll walk with each other As sisters and brothers United in love....!. Chorus: We are called to act with justice We are called to love tenderly We are called to serve one another To walk, humbly with God.
I really love your version of this song. It’s the way it’s supposed to be sung, upbeat, and happy. Our old church used to sing it just like this and I miss it. Especially the lyrics sing, sing a new song. Our current choir Director sings this song more like a dirgewhen we sing it at all. But that’s OK cause I have this and I listen to it a lot. Keep on singing!
As a Catholic, to anyone who says otherwise, there is nothing whatsoever wrong with this in terms of adherence to the Mass and Catholic doctrine. Mass is supposed to be a celebration, one in which we recall the Lord’s death, resurrection and fully giving of Himself through the institution of the Eucharist. We are invited to celebrate in Jesus’ victory, receive Him faithfully, and then, we are sent forth into the world to glorify Him by our example and love. It is a weekly celebration, and hence, worship music is part of our encounters with Christ.
Don't ever be afraid to let your joy show through when you sing! It is the joy of the Lord working and if you deny it, then why sing at all? I'm used to a drum set and electric guitars plus a piano and a flute in mass, and I'm Roman Catholic. 8:00 am mass on Sunday is always wonderful because we have a bigger choir and we are always filled with the joy of the Lord. I wish this is what my school choir looked like at our masses, but alas, they are teenagers that like to be "cool" and "still hearted". They look at me with wide eyes when I start singing and moving to the driving beat. I'm known to often start crying in mass because the songs are so amazing. My choir director likes this song a lot( I even believe he sang it in concert with David Haas) and on the third verse, he begins to sing the descant part! An wonder-filled sound that is! I remember the first time he sang this in practice this year. All the newbies do not really get to hear him sing, so when he broke out his top scale descant part, they stopped singing out of shock. Mind you, he normally sings bass below all of us treble voices, but bass singers do have thicker vocal cords, which means they can stretch more. That's why high sopranos can't sing a tenor part. Their vocal cords just don't have that range. Whee! Now you know:) never be afraid of letting the joy of the Lord show. The mass is the most holy thing that most normal people can do, so why make it drab and dry? Go out and sing! And if you can't, show God that you can't. He won't mind. I promise.
Never saw such joy and enthusiasm while singing and praising God. I love it and would never get tired of watching this video. Blessed be our God for ever more!
I'm a stuffy Presbyterian---one of the Protestant denominations that aren't usually very lively in worship. However, I absolutely love seeing the youth choir making a joyful noise unto the Lord, even with some swaying and dancing. More power to them, and more praise to the Lord! Besides, they are in worship---not skipping Mass.
This is definitely the BEST VERSION I have ever heard of this song!!! Look at how much fun they are having singing this great hymn!!!! I love it!!!!! I like how they are just kind of dancing around, and just having fun while worshiping God!!! Make A Joyful Noise!!!!!
Man, I miss music like this...where people are happy and smiling and singing at Mass. I can't find anything like this in Chicago. I use to love celebrating the Mass. Now....I just got to Mass...and hope it isn't awful.
I agree! My parents have a wonderful Catholic Church they attend, where it feels like we are actually celebrating the Mass - celebrating! I'm in a rural area and Mass here feels like a dull obligation, hardly a joyful celebration of Christ's presence among us! And I SO miss this music. I grew up with this music, and Mass was a time I looked forward to, even as a teenager.
It is a shame that some of our brothers and sisters believe solemn worship is proper. In my parish St. Joseph- Old Mission San Jose, the first parish established in what is now known as the Diocese of Oakland, we celebrate and sing. When Mass is over we applaud our God on our joy for giving us the Mass where we worship Him and give Him thanks.
@@wpramos333 I get where you're coming from, but many Catholics believe in solemn prayer is much better for the soul, as many popes have said that noisy instruments like the guitar and piano should not be played.
@@pitru2k194 Brother Pit, why should we not express our joy as Mass has ended? It is your wrong assumption that the applause is directed at a human, like choir, music, presider or Lectors. Our applause is directed at our Triune God for providing us with a manner to joyously worship and celebrate Father, Son and Spirit. "I rejoiced when I heard them say, 'Let us go to the Lord's house." Ps 122
Come! live in the light! Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord! We are called to be light for the kingdom, to live in the freedom of the city of God! Refrain: We are called to act with justice. We are called to love tenderly. We are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God. 2. Come! Open your heart! Show your mercy to all those in fear! We are called to be hope for the hopeless, so all hatred and blindness will be no more! 3. Sing! Sing a new song! Sing of that great day when all will be one! God will reign and we'll walk with each other as sisters and brothers united in love!
As I get older, I'm preferring traditional hymns with a memory attached to them, but this is one of my favorite contemporary songs. Hearing this choir sing and viewing the youth joyfully expressing those profound words from Micah 6:8 gives me great hope for the future of the Church. It's a perfect reflection of the b'rit olam: that everlasting covenant binding heaven to earth. Thank you so much. You made my day. God bless you all.
Stellar performance. I'm certain I've played it 50 times over the years. It gives me shivers, the thrill phenomenon, every time I play it. I wonder where they all are now.
I smile every time I hear them sing and every time I see the joy on their faces. Recorded now, over two years ago, these students should remember this posting as one of the greatest achievements of their lives.
❤❤❤❤ This beautiful hymn brings such joy to me. I give God thanks for me to be able to enjoy these young people committing themselves in spreading the live of God in this Worshipful hymn. As the saying goes: when you sing, you pray twice. They are alive in the spirit. KEEP ON SINGING❤❤❤❤
I absolutely LOVE this! The joy, the music, the harmonies...and above all - the message of the song delivered in such a captivating way. I am seriously addicted to this...I've listened to it/watched it dozens of times now and it gets stuck in my head for days...and I'm not complaining about that at all. I think the scandals that have affected the church over the past decade have permanently damaged the reputation of the church and took inspiration and joy with it.
Wow! Really enjoyed both seeing and hearing such a joyful, inspired, and inspiring rendition of this great song. As a music minister and Notre Dame alum, I feel very blessed to have been a part of this faith community and its music ministry back in the early 80s and to have that connection be refreshed and renewed in this absolutely delightful arrangement. This amazing song and performance always makes me so happy I responded to my call to be a Brother. Every time, I go to Notre Dame, I can just feel the joy of Catholicism.
We attended Mass here while visiting the Basilica a couple years ago and they sang this as the final hymn. Walked out of there with goosebumps. Thanks for posting!
What a joyous group! I love a more traditional, reflective liturgy, but the smiles and excitement as they sing is contagious! If only all Christians could be this joyful in the House of the Lord!
I find the joy on their face and the movement to be refreshing and in fact, it brings a tear to my 78 year old eyes.

Thank you. It is a "folk choir," after all, typically more informal and, well, folksy. This performance is totally appropriate and inspiring.

Correct! My old choir got completely into songs; swaying, clapping, the Spirit moves you and you move.

Too bad its for a song composed by a sexual predator.
First Easter without my wife of 55 years. This was our song because we were called to be Gods example of a great Christian Marriage.
God bless you-
Sorry for your loss 🙏

WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIS CHILDREN PRAISING HIM WITH SUCH JOY...ON THEIR HEARTS..

I wish all churches had the same religion of songs I mean keeping up with everything even Mass I would really enjoy going back to something like
We definitely need enthusiasm and joy in our worship amen
I grew up RC. I haven't been to church in years, but this song is a banger.

It is no small accomplishment to write a song that combines moving lyrics with a memorable melody. Dr. Haas has achieved them both.

A True Expression of Joy and Happiness-Youth singing the Gospel-How can anyone criticize such a beautiful thing?
I can feel the passion way over here. Great vibe. Well done gang!
We Have risen one more step closer heaven!
Bringing Joy .Wonderful rendition of this song. Every time I hear them they warm my heart for the Lord.
there is only one word to say "beautiful"
I love their joy in the presence of God. Our God could dance with His children! Amen!
Love it. The energy is off the charts. Well done gang.
That was marvelous!!!!!!
Beautiful Catholic Hymn
Beautiful. I remember when Mass was inspirational and joyful like this. Sadly this kind of Mass is hard to find these days.
I think the scandals that have affected the church over the past decade have permanently damaged the reputation of the church and took inspiration and joy with it.
This group you can clearly see has been set a fire with the Holy Spirit and are so filled with such a holy joy and enthusiasm. Bless everyone of them.

We are called to love tenderly (We are called)
We are called to serve one another
To walk humbly with God
Awww thank you 💖😇
who would want to sing along? why not join a choir instead?
Love the song! I am proud to be a Catholic. This is the church of the whole world.
God bless Catholic church.
I went to a Catholic grade school where we went to mass often and whenever this song came up everyone got so fired up
This amazing song and performance always makes me so happy I responded to my call to be a Brother.
