- Have you just returned from an amazing mountain hike or a trek? Are your walking shoes covered in mud and dirt? Whether you just need to do some regular maintenance or want to treat your shoes before you store them for while here is some advice on how to properly clean your hiking boots.

Thank you very much for this helpful video. I ordered my first pair of Salomon Quest 4D 2 GTX in 2018 and did my high altitude snow treks in India and Nepal Himalayas. Gifted my wife the same in 2021 as I'm in love with these shoes as they withstood every odd and are tough and super comfortable. The waterproofing is again an added advantage as there is no chance of feet getting wet.The grip on steep and slippery muddy or snowy ascents is superb. Fellow trekkers use crampons and gaitors but i don't. It keeps my feet warm throughout the adventure journeys.Though i wear 8.5 size but even 9 size fits as expected. They look bulky but surprisingly they are not.
Nice video - short and sweet. I love my Salomon boots and have worn them for 1000s of hours on walks with dog and camera.

I own two black pairs and one white pair of Hike shoes and love them! I wear them barefooted. My white ones were a little soiled after a walk with my two dogs.
Guess what I did? Turned them upside down on the top rack of the dishwasher and removed them from the drying cycle while they were still wet snd allowed them to air dry a couple of days. Perfection! No damage, no shrinkage.
Using this for my silver d of e - i haven’t cleaned them since bronze and i’m going on my expedition this weekend! thank you for the advice!

Hey Salomon, I wish you would launch a re-soling service. Salomon shoes are well known for having quick wearing soles. I love my Quest GTX hiking boots and the upper portion is still great, but the soles are starting to fall apart after a few years. Seems a waste and not very sustainable to throw them away!
Maybe not Solamon but most cobblers will resole boots. For about £60 you can get get vibrams fitted or buy the outsole yourself if you are confident to DIY

UV damage on rubber/plastics is my guess. I use 303 Aerospace rubber/plastic protector spray on all those materials, so I spritzed my shoes with it.
@@tomrobsmith4410I second this, I did that to mine and they shrunk a little so I had a hard time wearing them for a bit

Hi, no info in the video about how to clean shoes Inside... ? After a wile all the foot-sweat will remain inside.. or ? What about the breathing ability ?
You are right. I soak my shoes in Vinegar and water. Never a problem and cuts the biologics out of the insides. Surprised they don't mention that thorough cleaning inside. I don't think it damages anything to do so.

Recently (Aug 2023) I've bought a pair of boots Salomon Quest GtX 4D in Costa Rica, we hace tropical weather 🌧️ 🌞 🌡️. I use liquid hands soap for cleaning but I don't have Gore-Tex liquid for reapply protection. Can I use water repellent for leather/ sintetic shoes in spray ? Thanks and pura vida ✌🏽😎!

Used my quest 4d 3GTX boots last weekend hiking in the rain, and they got completely soaked inside. I saw the newspaper method to place inside, however I do have a boot drier made by RedWing; would that help dry it faster? Thanks!

Thks for the vid. Never knew have to respray water repellent for gtx... always thought gtx is waterproof by nature... now I have to get a bottle for my x ultra 3 gtx...
So will the gtx waterproofing be gone if I don't use the spray?
The spray is a DWR (Durable Water Repellant). It helps water and dirt not stick to the outside. It does nothing to affect the waterproofness of the Gore-Tex membrane. It can help with air permability (breathability). If the face fabric gets saturated with water the Gore-Tex won't be able to allow expel water vapour.

I accidently get my Quest4d gtx focre2 soaked with the sea how can I do ? It's completely wet inside and outside of my boots Can I soke it with water?
Hi Olan! Sorry to hear that. Let them dry far from heat sources (electric heater, drying machine and direct sunlight), with paper in the inside, so the shoe doesn't lose his shape. This should work!
Why not wash the inside? I soak in vinegar and water.
