12:28 though it wasn't substantial they actually did hint at the fact that Thor was thinking about fatherhood. It happened when Korg was narrating their relationship and you saw Thor looking at a family with a child and that's when they showed him being afraid of loss. So the point was that he did want that with Jane but he was scared and that's why their relationship failed so while the legwork is not extensive you can see what they were going for.

I think I pretty much agreed with everything that Dylan said. There are good moments and good actors, but the tone and the script were just so inconsistent. Character beats were undercut by jokes. Tessa Thompson could have played a bigger role, and while I enjoyed Natalie Portman in the Thor role, I think it was ultimately rushed and felt almost incomplete. It was fun at times, but could have been better.

  • @themutupoguy

    I really liked the movie.
How I viewed it is... Thor asked Mjolnir to protect Jane in a flashback of their relationship. Given the enchantment Odin has put on the hammer in the first movie, it was clear to me that Mjolnir took that as an enchantment as well. But it couldn't really protect Jane so instead it gave her what she wanted... She wanted to work again. Do things that matter. But it was also taking a toll on her body.
As someone with an autoimmune condition, that REALLY hit home. Especially when she'd drop the hammer and appear sickly again. Losing her purpose and just becoming sick again - someone to be pitied. My biggest problem with the movie structurally is that they didn't give enough time to the important bits and that's a bit that I would've loved to see more of. But that which we got was enough for me.
As for Thor becoming a dad. I also loved that because they were setting it up through his interactions with the kids. That's when I first got a sense of it and then Korg asked Val if Thor and Jane could ever have a kid. That was evidently the biggest hint. Considering the 3rd act, I thought that was really earned. I didn't expect it and it wasn't jarring at all.
I never miss a review from you guys. Thanks for another great one!

I loved Ragnarok, they made hela menacing, added a LITTLE comedy and didn't make Thor seem like a complete aloof, idiot...in the God butcher comic run, Thor was scared of Gorr and always deadly serious and bad ass, willing to die to defeat Gorr even knowing he was way more powerful then him.
How the audience score is so high...it's gotta be all from non comic readers and teenagers, etc. I'll never watch a Taika movie again, he ruined my favorite comic run of all time.
Secret wars is all that's left now, if they let him anywhere near that, I'm staying far away I won't let him ruin Jonathan Hickman's masterpiece like he just did Jason Aaron.
Russo brothers had more control for Ragnarok that's why it was good, they let Taika do this one his way completely...and we see what he did.
He admits he never read the comics... Are you kidding me?
He also never saw star wars and is doing a star wars movie! He didn't even know Natalie Portman was in star wars!!!!

Yeah this film really fell flat for me. From the awful green screening to the mid comedy to rushed characterizations, this film felt lackluster. Thor was offworld, the reason she could have been the only Thor on Earth was already set up for them smh. This movie threw away so much of Thor's development in Infinity War and Endgame that made him a more serious grounded character because that's not how Taika Waititi sees him. In fact, most of the stuff from Endgame is quickly thrown out. What was the point of sending him off with the Guardians if he comes back to Earth and leaves the Guardians within the first third of the movie. The chemistry between Jane and Valkyrie was so good though! I wish we got to see more of them doing stuff together, maybe they could have randomly encountered Thor and the Guardians while having their own adventure or also hunting Gorr. I like the tone of the Waititi movies, but it doesn't lend itself to any kind of gravity in the more serious moments which makes the ending with Mighty Thor and the overall final battle feel hollow. Yes they are goofy superheroes and I like that he has fun with that, but if he just exercised a little restraint he could have easily shown the deeper side of Thor they've been establishing recently. 5/10.

This movie is so awkward and weird. As I watched it I thought it was fine and kinda fun tbh, but right after all the questions came out. It’s riddled with question after question after question after question. Like is stormbreaker alive? I though at first Thor was commanding it unconsciously but it really seemed like the movie was telling me no it actually IS alive. Why does Gorr look so human? Isn’t he an alien? That’s kind of why his comic look is brilliant. He’s an alien. Movie Gorr looks just like a human with literally zero differences. Why was Eternity turned into a fucking genie? Because he’s not....like at all. He’s the embodiment of space and that’s it. He’s not a plot device for your movie because you decided to shrink 7 years worth of story into a bloated 2 hour movie. And if eternity IS a genie........why didn’t Thor or Jane get wishes? Wasn’t that the whole point? 1 person = 1 wish. Or are these made up decisions and choices supposed to be waved over and not thought about? Because shouldn’t Jane have been able to wish her fucking cancer away? Or thor have been able to wish her cancer away? It literally makes no sense why you put them in this type of situation and then just say nah I guess only 1 person ever gets to wish for something man idk. It’s very arbitrary. Why even bring up Valkyrie’s sexuality for 3 years only to just say she used to have gf but she died and she still hasn’t gotten over it. Like remember when Tessa Thompson got on stage back in 2019 at sdcc and she said King Valkyrie was looking for a queen? Well....where was that at? We see and hear a few instances that’s she’s at least Bisexual or full lesbian but other than her kissing some chicks hand and saying m’lady literally no over bearing for the plot. At least Korg went places for his character. I like Taika a lot, he seems like a cool dude that really cares, his work outside of the mcu is fantastic. But this was really just a whatever movie that was kinda of fun when you turn your brain off, which for me is the WRONG way to watch movies.

Thank you, that's exactly how I feel, mediocre is being generous I'd even say, especially after now wasting literally one of the best comic runs of all time in the God butcher.
All they have left is secret wars as far as comic runs that are amazing and can be adapted and I'm dreading what they do to and with that sadly.

@@Justice4Skye Well that’s just not true. They have the Fantastic Four with plenty of stories there to mine. Then there’s plenty of great X-Men stories and you have Young Avengers, Avengers Forever, Uncanny X-Force by Remender, Uncanny Avengers by Remender up to the Avenge the Earth arc, etc. Like there is a ton left to adapt.

I really enjoyed the movie, but I also understand why some people aren't very receptive to it. I also get the sense that maybe in this movie, Marvel is beginning to rely on audience knowledge from the source material or recaps from people on UA-cam because I never felt lost, but there's also just a ton of stuff thrown in this movie, especially with Eternity. I know who that was, but I didn't catch that Gorr wanted to use him as a wishing well, and I could see people just being really confused in general about who that is because they never say that he's the physical representation of the universe or what his powers are.

  • @vergilrules1616

So I just saw this today. And I gotta say, I loved Christian bale's portrayal of Gorr, but I do agree he was a bit underutilized. I wish we actually saw some more of him butchering and slaying god's. I'd have loved to see the scene where he tortured the god of torture. Aside from his god at the beginning, we didn't really see him kill anybody, and it kinda took away from the threat of him as a villian. As for the lack of need for the mighty Thor, I completely disagree. I actually thought that it was a great use of her character. Especially since it would have been a little too convoluted (especially after the rules of time travel set up in endgame) for there to be a past and future Thor fighting with modern day Thor fo defeat Gorr. Seeing Jane was a great combination of these 2 story lines. I think that the only 2 lacks were actually Thor not trying to resurrect her like he did in the comics by using the storm as an AED. I would have loved to see him try to channel his power into her to bring her back, that was such an amazing and touching moment from the comics that I feel we missed out on. And we could have had the Valhalla reveal then instead of in the post credits like we did. And then her reasoning for getting the hammer. It goes completely against her in the comics. She never wanted the magic to cure her. Yet here she is, actively seeking it out. The only other issue I had was the ending of Gorr. I thought his using his wish on the resurrection of his daughter was out of character and I didn't care for it too much. I would have rather seen him bring back all black or something, only to be struck down immediately by Thor. Or see him wish to meet the creator of all black and have the king in black revealed. That would have been much more impactful I think.

Because most people are fans of the comics and this was one of the best, most highly loved Thor stories of all time and Taika made it into a joke.
Most people who will like this either are probably well under 30 years old and not huge fans of the comics or people who understand the characters.

I agree with what they all said in the video. I think the script just need too be cleaned up. I think they could keep the comedic stuff but once Thor learns Jane has cancer shift it to a more serious tone which they tried to do but to many bad jokes at the end. I did like Thor giving the kids his powers that was kinda cool. Overall, they just needed to clean up the story and it would have been as good as Ragnarok maybe even better but instead this is like just better than Doctor Strange MOM but still mid.
One thing I dod wish they did was have Thor interrogate what it means to be a God and what it means to be a hero. Like they set it up great in the beginning ing of the movie. Sometimes he helps, sometimes he shows off, he causes collateral damage when he doesn't need to, he is arrogant but has a kind heart. I think her could have a deep discussion with Gorr about the nature of Godhood and do people need Gods especially Gods that act horribly or aloof. But no we got jokes to tell ( though they were funny).

  • @Justice4Skye

Jane is "Mighty Thor" in the comics when she takes up the mantle. Irrelevant though, cause the movie was so poorly done imo.
They ruined the God butcher story for me, I expected so much more, should have been Russo brothers directing something so important.
I haven't truly enjoyed a marvel movie since Endgame, but I liked infinity war better and is my personal favorite. Spiderman was ok, but besides that all of the shows and movies, these past few years have been ten steps below the previous phase.
Saddens me, because I look to these things for happiness after all I've been subjected to these past few years. Such is life....it's all a cash grab anymore and all jokes and forcing in females and LGBTQ folks just because really is a testament to the direction the world is going.
There's other ways this all could be done... 😢

One last thing I will say, I really did enjoy the moment when Gor realises he has the power to protect or kill Thor. It’s a beautiful narrative mirror of the beginning of the movie where gor cries out and no one hears him. He is now the god in that scenario, watching Thor hold Jane. My only complaint is that i think he should have brought Jane back (I know that may not have helped with the overall plot, but I think it’s better than giving Thor a daughter)

Yeah "the God Butcher" was not a good villain to put in a COMEDY... Such a waste. I also miss the REAL Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder. They didn't need the axe... They just fly through the multiverse at super speed. (and appear "in a flash of lightning" when called, in the comics) The screaming goats, I just thought "man they ruined them too?"... It wasn't funny.. Might have been 10-15 years ago ,but sheez. Gor in this movie had one of the WEIRDEST, most nonsensical plans I've ever seen..For a LITERAL "god butcher" he only did a little "god transporting", for the whole film... Considering ALL asgardians were considered "gods".
And yeah I agree with Dillian, I hated the whole "sentience weapons" thing, it was really dumb and didn't even get a smile out of me.. It's JUST AN AXE.. We WATCHED it be created.. I honestly hated a LOT of the second half of the movie.. and NO I don't watch these movies for "high art""... I loved Ragnarok and most of the others (dark world was a little boring)..But wow, they REALLY had problems with this one.
